Coming from Kenmore, I needed to find a new go-to spot, and I was excited to discover The Bagel Jar's Hamburg location.

Headed to the counter and showed the app, they said have a seat we'll get your bag ready. The place is cute inside kinda homey with little kiosk with stuff for sale. She brought my bag over and had a cup for coffee. She let me to the coffee station & I had the coffee of the day. I normally don't drink flavored coffee but it was real good, a nutty and creamy flavor combined. My bag had a bowl of broccoli cheddar soup and slice of blueberry crumble pie. The table by me had sandwiches that looked good, will definitely be back.

For those who have never been, there's two entry points; the front (from the street), is wheelchair friendly, while the back (from the parking lot) has some stairs. There are two single bathrooms available in this place. If you're dining in, you can order at the counter and they'll bring the food to your table. Regardless you need to order at the counter anyway. They always have a great selection of baked goods and coffee, plus specialty drinks on rotation. They offer light breakfast and lunch if you don't want just a coffee and pastry. They sell gifts and ground/bean coffee along with flavored syrups. For this particular trip, I ventured in to get lavender syrup (Torani). I treated myself to a specialty rotating drink (Hansel and Gretel frozen coffee - frozen coffee with gingerbread and white chocolate). I also purchased a blueberry muffin and a pumpkin cream cheese muffin (also a rotation dessert specialty). All were excellent, as par for course here. I don't hear at all but speak well, so the kind lady at the front grabbed a pad and writing utensil to communicate with me, which was very helpful and so we both were on the same page. It was very appreciated. Another reason I love this place, they're so accommodating

I ordered an egg breakfast sandwich with home fries and an apple juice, which came out to about $25. While the food itself was a bit on the bland side and felt a little limited for the price, the ambiance really stands out. It's a great place to catch up with friends or family over brunch and enjoy a warm, welcoming vibe. Not somewhere I'd go out of my way to revisit, but I'm glad I stopped in and appreciated the atmosphere.

This is a beautiful, well-stocked bakery with a variety of goodies to take home or eat there…read more Although the prices are on higher side, I don't mind paying for "les artes blanches": A mushy croissant is a sad, sad thing. Here's where it all fell down. After placing my order, I turned my back, reading the menu. Then I heard the microwave "ding" and saw my pain au chocolat removed. Really?? (I once had a Cordon Bleu-trained pastry chef explain that croissants should never be re-heated because it ruins the scaffolding of the butter/flour feuille, or "sheets"). I then tried the various seats in the Danish-style cafe. Stool? No love: They're metal and lack cushions. Chairs at the tables were also metal. I settled in an honest-to-God church pew: The kind the Puritans used, to reflect upon their sins. Do yourself a favor and get your treats to go.

Anyways, after a rough morning (burnt my toast, tore my pants, dog threw up on rug) I needed a break from reality. After driving aimlessly for about 35 minutes, lo and behold, I stumbled upon this Timmy Ho's. There are many TH's'z's'z out there and they may seem the same...but I'm here to tell you, all Ho's are NOT created equal. I walked in...pondered my options..and when prompted (courteously, professionally) I cleared my throat and wistfully said "hot chocolate s'il vous plait". To which the barista responded "whaaa?". Turns out that only works in Canada. But I digress. After paying a reasonable price and a prompt directive to pick up my purchase "over there"...I patiently awaited my hot cocoa Le HoHo. When my drink was called out, I looked left..looked right....no takers....so it was surely mine! ''Twas indeed the birthday boy's delight. The drink was radiant...it was quixotic and beguiling. Cocoa delight with sugary might. You wish your girlfriend was hot like this! Well. In summary, my birthday gift to myself was a cathartic ode to midlife crisis. Tim Horton - you are my "yeah yeah". Viva La Canada and here's to dead hockey players! Bon chance mon Ami !
