I'm visiting from out of town and this store was highly recommended by some friends who live in Fishkill. I was really looking forward to trying an authentic New York bagel for the first time. My visit left a lot of to be desired. First off, the staff was incredibly distracted. Several employees passed by me while I was up at the register assuming I had already ordered. When someone finally came up to take my order I asked if individual bagels came with a small helping of cream cheese. The sunken eyed teenager with a frizzy dirty blonde bun snottily said "You can buy some" while pointing at their sign showing the per pound prices for cream cheese ($7.99 per pound by the way) That's right, if you want cream cheese with your bagel you have to buy a whole pound of it even if you're only buying one bagel. The bagel and the sandwich I ordered were very good, but unfortunately does not overtake the subpar service and the fact that I had to buy a pound of cream cheese. read more

Used to come here a lot when my boys were little and it was always a great place. Joe knew us all by name and was always such a great friendly guy. Everyone who lived in the area knew and loved this bagel shop! I went in today with my son after not having been there in about 8 years and was so pleased to see the same familiar face and the same great food that we were used to. Being back home for the holiday , I was so happy to find a place with real NY Kaiser rolls. I had a great ham, egg and cheese sandwich . No complaints there. I used the restroom before leaving and was totally grossed out. It smelled of urine, had urine on the floor, trash can overflowing . The walls were dirty and rusty-YUK. Not food service quality, but home cooked quality. And a lot of it. We ordered food for 10 people, but there was definitely enough food for at least 6 more people. Glazed Spiral ham, string beans almondin, glazed carrots, garlic roasted red potatoes, dessert, anti- pasta platter... all at a very reasonable price. Very reasonable. Truly a lot of food! Go for a bagel, while in line ( yes I said line. Always busy!), check out their great food choices in the deli case. All cooked on premises and a crazy amount of choices. Can I say I just had the most worst experience ever here. My mom and I walked in and ordered two simple veggie and cheese sandwiches. A blonde lady behind the counter and I have never seen before looked at us very unusually and by the look of her face she looked off kiltered or confuse. She asked us if she could help us and then she would walk away and then come back and ask us if she could help us again. Then she tried to check in four different spots where the vegetables for the sandwich was? Really really I'm not quite sure what she was doing. She also questioned our order several times. There was no one else in here it was at 2o'clock so their rush-hour was over. One other lady walked in and the guy behind the counter helped her and he also seemed like he was in La La Land as well. I heard her yell at the guy that he messed up her bagel order. It also took her about 30 minutes to make two veggie sandwiches. And at the end she asked us if we wanted potato salad or macaroni salad? I asked her if it came with the sandwiches, she said yes and it seemed like she may have charged us for them. Lastly the lady asked if we were going to stay and she said that we should because they were really messy? And then it wouldn't be a good idea to eat them in the car. For her to admit that they were messy is I feel like a very odd thing? i'm not quite sure what the heck was going on maybe it was an off day. I will give them the benefit of the doubt but really horrible service, and workers. I don't think I will be coming back for a while. Problem: early afternoon gym trip, but no food all day to provide any energy for a workout. Solution: head into this place for a quick bite, then shoot over to Golds Gym in the same parking lot. Bigger problem: eat too much, go into a food coma and skip the gym. This is a great little bagel/sandwich shop to stop in anytime of the day for a meal to go or to sit down and enjoy. Plenty of fantastic sandwich options and always served on nice fresh bread (hero, rolls, etc). This past week I enjoyed a "New Yorker" on a hero - hot pastrami served with Russian dressing and coleslaw. The sandwich was ready within minutes and full of meat (hate when they go light on the main ingredient). Their coleslaw was a bit light on the creamy side, but mixed with the Russian dressing it wasn't so bad. Overall a fantastic meal and very filling Most sandwiches on a hero fall within the $6-$8 range and are served with a side of coleslaw or potato salad. They have specials that are updated on their site daily. I've yet to try a bagel there but some of the reviews on here make me optimistic that I'll enjoy it. I've had the hankering for a good bacon egg and cheese sandwich so maybe I'll stop back in for one real soon. read more

Was not impressed with this place at all. The lady at the counter did not toast our bagels and got half of the items we ordered completely wrong. I would have complained but we were up here for Thanksgiving and I did not want to make anything bad on our trip. The bagel was good though even though it wasn't toasted. Never going back. I felt rushed. Customer service wasnt great but not horrible. I also had to wait 7-8 minutes before I was greeted. I ordered a croissant with butter and jelly and a bagel with strawberry cream cheese. The croissant had a half inch thick very uneven smear and a quarter size glob of jelly. Barely toasted. It was almost inedible. The bagel I had hoped would be good since it is "The Bagel Shoppe" but no such luck. The plain bagel I got was not very tasty and the strawberry cream cheese tasted nothing of strawberry. It wasnt very sweet but practically had no flavor. The cream cheese was like a marble look because it had not been mixed completely. It also tasted like all the lox and cream cheeses it was stored with. Basically never returning. Hello-, This deli is expensive and frankly the sandwich was not very good especially for the price! I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with lettuce and tomato the price came to $14.00. Furthermore, the portion of the piece of chicken was small. For another $5.00 dollars I can go to a restaurant get a drink, French fries and a sandwich for $20.00. This deli is out of touch with what is going on in today's world. There are many people living check to check and just getting by. Thankfully I'm not one of those people but I believe in fair value and good business practice. I'm afraid charging $14.00 dollars is absolutely ridiculous in todays environment. read more

Having recently moved to Fishkill this would have been a very convenient location to frequent. Originally from the Bronx so I'm very critical of bagels. I think their bagels are okay, however I have had better in the area. If only this place was as clean looking in person as it is in the photos on their site. If you eat here do not look up, the amount of dust on the vents and the ceiling are disgusting. I had a view of foam caulking in the walls as I ate my bagel indicative that they have unwelcome visitors there. I did visit a second time thinking I just got this place on a busy day and they didn't have a chance to clean and the floor was just as filthy and the top of the napkin holders just is dusty as they were the week before. It's apparent this place has many regulars that probably are either used to the uncleanliness of this facility or just don't notice it because they've become used to it. The workers there are friendly and work hard however, they should clean this place up and do something about the bathroom as well. The first time I was there I mentioned to somebody behind the counter that they needed to clean out the garbage because there was an awful awful smell coming from it. In my opinion ,if you do not care about the cleanliness of your establishment, how can you take pride in your food that you serve? Needless to say I'll be finding another bagel shop. read more

I work in an office very close so we often order delivery from the establishment. The food is decent, nothing spectacular and they consistently forget my co workers drink. However, when going into the business it's been a completely different experience. My husband has gone in on 3 different occasions and the women behind the counter were consistently rude and cold to him. Let me explain that my husband is the most friendly, outgoing and kind man to everyone he comes across. Today was the last straw for him with this place. The woman who took his order was not personable or pleasant and it escalated to her being down right rude and her yelling when my husband's magnetic strip on his debit card wouldn't work. As if it's a crisis to have to manually punch the numbers in as my husband suggested to her. I can't fathom that a small local business would treat their customers in this way. I have had Joe the owner, come to my place of business and he was treated with the utmost respect and professionalism. I'd strongly recommend he teach his employees a life lesson on humanity and respect. This is not only a great place to buy bagels, but also sandwiches, desserts and more! They have a super special Mondays through Thursdays where you can buy 18 bagels for the price of 12. That may seem like too many bagels for most of us but they freeze well, thaw in 30 seconds in the microwave and taste just as fresh as when you first bought them! For a local business in a thriving business area their staff friendliness could definitely improve, and maybe they could be a bit more helpful with possibly asking if the customer may want anything additional to make them feel more comfortable with ordering since they do offer a lot of options. My friend placed her order a wrap with egg whites, green peppers, onions and bacon. Which for the record she said was delicious. Then I get asked by Carmen, "Who's next, so I hold up my hand and she coldly asked, "What do you want?" I asked if they could do a tuna wrap as it was not an option on their menus. Her response sounded as sarcastic as could be, "yeah" with an eye roll. So I felt slightly stupid for asking but wanted to make sure it was an option. Then I asked if they had spinach...(the leaf,) I was quickly told, "We do not have spinach wraps, white or wheat" Okay I guess I asked that incorrectly. So I said wheat would be great, then asked do you have both lettuce and spinach thinking that would get my answer. I questioned even if i should ask for anything special at this point..I got another cold response. "Yeah we have both". Again in my head I am thinking it's my first time here, I feel bad for asking questions but I did not see these options listed anywhere. So I say I would like spinach please, and at this point I was thinking let me get this finished because my order is already irritating this woman. So I end up asking for American Cheese and that's it. Even though I would have liked to add more. After being rung up I am told my very plain Tuna wrap on wheat with spinach and American cheese plus my iced tea cost $10.59. I was blown back by the amount but didn't have time to argue or cause a scene and at that point was hoping my wrap had not been tampered with. We were so excited to find the popular rainbow bagel craze had found its way here! We were having a rainbow party and had only known about another place in Brooklyn that had them... which didn't ship. I worked with Joe ahead of time to arrange for mini rainbow bagels (which were beautiful!), as well as some of their awesome water bagels and a tray of bacon. Everything was a huge success.
