With mixed reviews I was hesitant to try this spot out, but I'm happy to report I was delightfully surprised. We started our food journey off with their charcuterie and pretzel for the table. I must note that the charcuterie is a very generous portion and I felt like it was priced fairly. The pretzel had mustard and cheese to dip and I would order again (it's also massive)! Although neither of our entrees were memorable I'd be willing to give this place another shot because the service was great and the views were spectacular. read more

Beautiful views of the lake and a nice place, though the shades were down until sunset when all the shades simultaneously lift up. Service was on the slower side on this Saturday evening. I had a glass of Cabernet to start, and we munched on the complimentary chips with horseradish dip. We got the rainbow trout and flat iron steak and fries, with a side salad and beer cheese soup. The beer cheese soup was one of the better ones we've tried, with an interesting twist by including bratwurst in it. The side salad was a nice portion. The entrees were tasty but nothing special compared to other nearby restaurants we'd been to though. I had a kiwi cucumber spritz to end the meal and enjoy the beautiful sunset. read more

It's in a lovely hotel. There's limited parking right in front of the hotel and overflows little down the hill on the other side of the street. We didn't make reservations because it looked online like they had all times open so we just arrived but were told they were totally full which was confusing. But they had first come first serve in the bar area at high tops which was perfect for us. They were out of spotted cow beer which was very disappointing since we can't get that in Illinois. The server handed us a beer menu. It had a few whiskeys on it but no cocktails so we chose another beer. Later we found they had a cocktail list elsewhere which we wish we'd seen first. I asked about the bbq chicken and the server said it's good but takes the longest on the menu. I appreciated the warning and ordered it anyway. It still came in a normal amount of time and was surprisingly juicy. Beer cheese sauce wasn't salted so I doused the potato with salt and then it was tasty. Husband got the impossible burger which he liked. After dinner we could see the sun setting through the windows so we went to the back of the restaurant outside and it was right on the water so we could watch the sun set outside. We ate there for lunch, my friend has made reservations. The restaurant looks out over the lake. Our waiter, Austin, was quite nice. We chose the turkey bourbon club, my friend had his on a bun, and I chose the wrap. It was quite filling. They served there fries in a cute fry basket. I would definitely go there again. read more

Start with the good part. The views are amazing. The restaurant kept the floor plan which was smart. Each level is elevated including a booth level , so it's an awesome view from everywhere. Drinks were very slow to arrive, but good. I had summertime nectar and it was great! Appetizer: Wisco Board. Brats were great. Cheese spread had zero flavor. Trout spread was good, just a very small amount. Crackers were an odd choice. Large and hard. Mustard was way too intense. Two of us had the Weinerschnitzel. I won't get again. Lots of grizzly pieces. No gravy. Potato came with a broccoli cheese sauce? I get it, trying to be different. But missed the mark. Again no flavor. How can cheese anything have no flavor??? They called it a loaded potato. Not loaded at all. Purple kraut. Unedible. Walleye platter: so mad I didn't take a picture. It was two completely different of fish. No clue what the 2nd piece of fish was. 2nd was like a whitefish. Called the MGR the next day and big attitude saying it was most definitely both walleye. But it was not. Might want to check with your fish supplier. Not the same fish. Fries were great!! Coleslaw bad. Nobody liked it and we all typically love Cole slaw.! Smash burger was good, so that was the highlight of the dinner. We are cheese soup connoisseurs so we had to try. Again zero flavor! Cheese curds were awful. It's like 1/2 of them were cooked earlier and thrown in with a new batch. Some were hot, most were cold. Cheese curds must be served hot. Being such a "Wisconsin " restaurant, they need to correct this. Sauces were awful. Had to ask for ranch. I hope they improve as the views are awesome, but clearly they need a lot of work on the food. read more

I heard great things, so I thought I'd give it a try. Staff was warm and friendly. The atmosphere was top notch! Menu is quite extensive and full of variety. I just had the Oak and Oar salad, a couple of appetizers, and had a beer. The cheese curds and Beer Cheese soup were delicious. The salad was very fresh, with crispy, chilled lettuce. Prices were very reasonable. Definitely a return trip. read more

I believe I heard a waitress say that it's only been open for 2 weeks now. I wouldn't have known because the service was fantastic. It was absolutely beautiful inside. Huge open windows and an amazing view of the lake. I saw a server using ASL with hard of hearing guests which I thought was amazing. My wife & I started with the crab cake appetizer & holy crap. You can tell it's real crab and the tartar sauce & mustard was perfect with it. Then we split their smash burger. Again, the sauce and the pickles were amazing but the burger itself was even better. The seasoning was just delightful. Then we ended with the apple pie ala mode & raspberry topped cheesecake. Both were exactly what we wanted. Was very surprised that they charge for a second glass of Coke. I didn't ask if they did because I can't remember the last time I've been in a restaurant where they charge for a refill on Coke that place certainly charges enough for their meals that they should be able to give a second glass of Coke. read more

Pretzel was warm & soft, yummy. Turkey club a bit dry. Brat was very good with spicy pickles but sauerkraut would've been tastier, juicier than the purple slaw. Hi. We went to Oak and Oar this past weekend. It is located in the beautiful Geneva Inn which was formerly known as Grandview Restaurant. It is a more casual restaurant with a casual menu. I much prefer the former menu which was more upscale. The views are breathtaking and it is right on the water. We ordered cheese curds as an appetizer. For our entrees I had a Grilled chicken sandwich and my boyfriend had the Grilled Cheese. Ambiance was beautiful and the service was very good, Highly recommended, read more

The only thing keeping from five stars was because service was very slow. The service was awful. We didn't get a drink order in for 20 min. We didn't get our food until 1:45 later. The food was cold and dry.

Had the fried walleye. They deep fried it in oil and all I could taste was oil. It was awful. Worst walleye I ever had. Won't go again

I have dined at Oak & Oar and can highly recommend this fine restaurant. The food was delicious, the service was great, and the ambience was wonderful. The decor is very cool, and the vibe is inviting. You will not only enjoy the cuisine, but the view is something special. It is 'LAKE Geneva', after all. If you are thinking of dining in Lake Geneva and desire a restaurant that is special, then the Oak & Oar is a must. Loved our experience here! The view of the lake was beautiful! The food was absolutely delicious too. They brought out a bowl of homemade kettle cooked chips before the meal which was a nice surprise. The pulled pork was great, the wings were fantastic and my kids both loved their meals. The O&O is a C+/B- restaurant. Beautiful views and decent ambience, but then things fall off. Server was very nice, but service was very slow. The menu was very limited, and if you're a steak eater, don't go there. The walleyed pike was very good tasting, but looked more like a large potato pancake. Until you cut into it, you'd not know it was a fish. I've had their vaunted wiernerschnitzel before. Steer clear. We need to find a better finer dining place in the Lake Geneva area. read more

We talked with the manager, Amber, for over 10 minutes in the middle of our dinner to let her know all of the issues we experienced. Starting with the lighting: The overhead lighting was incredibly harsh, it was hurting our eyes. There were no candles on the tables, no music, nothing to make the environment welcoming. Next, our waitress had no idea how to open a bottle of wine. She held the bottle parallel to the ground as she attempted to twist the cork. My mom had to teach her how to open it and pour it without spilling. Finally, my coleslaw that came with the fish fry was rancid. Amber smelled it, covered it with her hand, and told a bus boy to send it back to the kitchen and have the chef smell it. All this, and nothing on our bill was comped. As if we want to spend our one night out together (I'm in from out of town) complaining to a manager. It was a horrible experience, we will never be back, and we will tell everyone who listens to steer clear. Horrible service, horrible ambiance, horrible food. read more

We've eaten many times at the restaurant in the Geneva Inn in the past so we were looking forward to our first visit to their new restaurant. I have a physical disability and can no longer safely climb stairs, so in recent years we have sat at the upper level of tables which provided a decent view of the lake. However, to my unpleasant surprise we discovered that they replaced the tables on that level with high tops which I cannot use because it is too difficult to climb up on the chairs. There was ONE large table off to the side for someone in a wheelchair. I managed to get down the 4 stairs to the lower level with regular height tables, but I nearly fell twice coming back up (saved by another patron who helped me). For an inn which caters to an older clientele it was a pretty shocking display of obliviousness or uncaring to have made no allowance for people with disabilities. The meal itself was OK but far from special. We shall not return. read more
