The Baker is almost shockingly good. These people are masters of flour-- the goat cheese quiche is perfectly done and flavorful without any of that chewiness that a reheated quiche can take on. Rotating donut special is always fun without being gimmicky - today was Cinnamon Toast Crunch brioche. I think where they really shine are the croissants- the bright acidity of the lemon curd against the perfectly laminated flakes of crust is really artful, and the everything-bagel seasoned croissant stuffed with scallion cream cheese puts its namesake bagel to shame. The coffee is serviceable but the special lemonades are delicious- ginger lemonade for spring! My son also insists that there's no better linguica and cheese roll in the area but I'm not giving up an opportunity to have a croissant to find out. The skill of this Baker cannot be overstated-- he really is a master of the dough and the long lines on weekends and frequent sellouts are a testament to how much people appreciate the quality. I love love love this place. The pastry is amazing, the staff if fantastic. However I have to comment on the parking situation- it's horrendous! 9 times out of 10 that I set out to come here I end up not going in because I circle the block 5 times and can't find a parking spot. I'm sure in summer this place does well with foot traffic being downtown, but for those of us that aren't in waking distance it's nearly impossible to get in here. It's middle of winter right now and there's nearly 2 feet of snow on the ground. I don't want to walk several blocks to get a croissant. I wish they'd move to a location with ample parking so they can take my money because I love what they're putting out. The parking situation is the only reason I didn't give them 5 stars. Even the parking spot marked for pre-orders often has people parked for more than half an hour and being next to the police station, the police have half the street blocked for their parking. I thought I was safe coming at 10:30, thinking I was after morning rush but before lunch rush and I was wrong. read more

Honestly one of my top favorite bakeries to go to! I moved to NB recently and I'm pleasantly surprised at all of the cool small businesses there are. The Baker is the bomb! Everything is so fresh and delicious and I'd recommend this place to anyone. The only downside is that they aren't open earlier but nonetheless they are amazing! read more

My Mom and I went on Sunday to have some breakfast and were happily greeted by an employee at the door. He was taking care of the clients, making sure they were happy and helping clean up. This place!! We were staying in New Bedford for a few days and ended up coming here every morning. There was always quite a bit of a line but it moved extremely quick. The pumpkin pecan danish was ridiculously good and the apple pop tart was my other favorite. I wish we could've tried more goodies and I hope we can find our way back here again! I went in the other day and the cafe is adorable. All the pastries looked delicious, but I got the lemon raspberry muffin and it was pretty good. The real star was the coffee. A couple months ago, we stopped into this shop late on a Sunday afternoon, hoping to score the pretzels I had read about. They were out of pretzels (and most everything else), so we had sandwiches. We're vegetarians, and besides the egg sandwiches, they only had two options. I didn't love the Sweet Potato (but only because I'm not the hugest fan of sweet potatoes... if you love sweet potatoes, you'll be in heaven) but my husband said his caprese sandwich was wonderful (maybe it was a special, as it's not on the current menu). We vowed we'd return some day, and this time, call in and reserve some pretzels. Today I called ahead, reserving not just some pretzels, but some of the amazing looking caramel apple cheesecake pie donuts that I had seen on the website. We got to the shop around 11, and it was pretty packed. We ordered egg sandwiches (mine was on an english muffin which was light and fluffy and unlike any english muffin I've ever had, and my husband's was on a croissant). Both were delicious with cheese and avocado. Luckily, we were able to snag seats by the time the sandwiches were ready. Afterwards, we shared one of the donuts and OMG; we were speechless. We ended up buying another donut (brioche filled with chocolate ganache that we have yet to try). I literally wanted to buy one of pretty much everything they sold. We just finally tried the pretzels (which, like their specialty donuts, they make only on weekends) and they are probably the best soft pretzels we've had outside of Germany. On top of all the amazing goodies, the service was great and friendly, especially Victor! If we didn't live 45 minutes away, we'd be here at least once a week. I cannot wait to return to this amazing place with its sweet and savory treats. Next time we'll also have to try the coffee. It certainly was a popular option. read more
