Last weekend, I bought two pies (peach and apple), two cakes and a dozen assorted cookies. * The Two pies when I opened the box had MOLD inside the crust...yes MOLD. * The cookies had NO taste, extremally BLAND * The two cakes were dry even though I ask were they freshly baked. I have been ordering from this bakery for over 10 years and NEVER had an issue. Everything was delicious. I had NO idea until I called today the ownership had changed. The manager barely spoke English and defended what I was trying to tell him. I did not ask for a refund but was letting them know that they are selling MOLDY pies. I dare not mention everything else was BLAND and tasteless. I will never return to this bakery knowing they serve OLD bake goods. The health department needs to inspect this place. read more

Be sure to stop by this gem of bakery in Buford, Georgia located just a few miles away from The Mall of Georgia. The place has been in business since 1958. While most people go there to get their cakes and cookies for special occasions, the breakfast and lunch offerings make this a worthwhile destination for anyone who is hungry. The prices are reasonable (about 11-13 for a plate). The portions are generous. (Other meals at my table took up several plates, I was looking for a smaller option). The food is excellent with professional touches that can make or break the experience. For example, the syrup was warm, the cinnamon roll was sliced for better syrup application before being battered, and can buy the mugs if you want one. The service is great. The cinnamon roll toast came with hash browns but I didn't want more starch on top of the rolls and syrup. The waitress rang me up a la carte so that the meal came out the same price but I skipped on the hash browns and got bacon instead. The place was quiet but busy with lot of groups of older men and a few mix gendered groups having breakfast at 8:30-9:30am on a Wednesday morning. Ownership Changed in Jan 2026 - Misleading Marketing & Terrible Customer Service. I was a longtime customer of The Baking Ground Bakery and Cafe in Buford under the original family who held ownership since 1958. They earned fantastic reviews for their quality cakes, beautiful decorations, and excellent service. The business was sold in January 2026. Important note for potential customers: Any reviews posted before January 2026 are for the previous owners. Please disregard those when deciding whether to order here now. The new owners have kept the same name, website, and marketing language that still makes it appear to be the original family-run bakery "in business since 1958." They claim to use the old recipes, but many recent reviews report that the quality has dropped -- cakes aren't as good, decorations are less impressive, and they can no longer do fondant work. I personally cannot speak to the current taste or quality of the cakes because I had to cancel my birthday cake order about 10 days before pickup (no work had been done on it). I was charged $130 and requested a refund. They refused and would only offer an in-store credit. When I first called to explain the situation -- that I don't live nearby and wouldn't be returning based on recent reviews -- the person hung up on me. When I came in person to address the credit, the treatment was equally disappointing. All I wanted was a refund back to my credit card, but they would not accommodate that. I also pointed out how the website is misleading about the ownership. The response I received was essentially that it's "still the same recipes" but just managed by the new owners. This level of customer service, combined with the lack of transparency about the ownership change, is very disappointing. Businesses get sold all the time, but misleading longtime customers and treating them poorly during a simple cancellation is a fast way to lose trust. If you're considering ordering here, read only the most recent reviews and set your expectations accordingly. My favorite items were their danishes. I just got the coconut and the blueberry Danish. My wife and I just had a slice of each one and both went straight to the trash can. Not worth the money or calories. I have no idea why they changed them. Maybe to save money but I would rather spend a little more to get a high quality treat than to spend a ton and get crap. I think the bakery is still one of the best around as I have tried a ton of their items and they all have been very good but the best thing they had isn't worth eating anymore. I have eaten there for years and been them at the previous 3 locations so I have been a long time fan and told tons of people about them over the years. Soup, cup cakes, dollies bars, turtles, cakes, petifores, and many other items are great but not the danishes any longer. Just thick dry bread hardly any coconut on coconut danish and no doughnut glaze I could detect and the blueberry had some glaze and a good bit of blueberry but thick dry bread. Used to be thin lots of glaze and toppings. Wife said case was pretty empty and her lunch was just ok. Just found out it is under new management. I've tried their cake pops (huge!), cupcakes (the champagne one is DIVINE), cookies (their snickerdoodles are amazing!), egg salad sandwich (comes with cookie and chips- it's a good deal) and coffee. The lunch menu is simple, composed of salads, sandwiches, and sides. Every sandwich comes with your choice of bread, a bag of Lays chips and a cookie of your choice. I've tried the following: Egg salad sandwich $6.95 Tuna salad sandwich $7.25 Slice of caramel cake Salted caramel cake pop A couple other pastries Both sandwiches were tasty and the cookies were delicious! The cake and pastries were definitely the star of the show. The slice of caramel cake was huge and was probably one of the best if not the best caramel cake I've ever had. It was moist and plenty sweet, but not overwhelming. Couldn't get enough. I've been thinking of an excuse to order a whole cake since! The prices are super affordable. It was all heavy food, they didn't have any fruit, yogurt or oatmeal. It was all sausage, biscuits, grits, etc. Nothing healthy at all. With that aside there were only about 5-8 items on the menu as far as combos to get and even that food didn't taste good. I've had better sausage at McDonalds.
