What a fun spot! We came down for the Lions game and ended up hopping around Detroit too. We started off at a VIP tailgate party and ended up at some dive bars. This place was pretty cool the bar top changes colors which is pretty fun! We had been drinking since about 10 am so my memory is a bit fuzzy. But they were inexpensive and fairly basic. They didn't have any amazing beer choices but we chose a couple of Coors lites and we split some apps. Again the food was basic bar food. Nothing frilly. Bur we ended up having an absolute blast here! We will definitely come back. The dive bars need love too. read more

The Baltimore is one of the best bars to hangout at in Detroit. After Lions games, a Friday night, or when you need a mid-week drink. The owners are so nice and the service is always fantastic. Why do I go to the Baltimore? Is it because I want a high-class experience, with the finest cocktails crafted by a suspenders-wearing, mustachioed hipster with dual sleeve tattoos? Nope. It's because I want cheap beer, loud music, and all the pool I can play for a buck a game. At that, the Baltimore excels. It's dark, it's a bit grimy, the bathroom probably gets cleaned biannually, and that's why it's the best place to end a night. $3 PBR, three shots of Patron for $10...you can't beat it! Sure, the pool table isn't the flattest in the world, but that just adds to its charm. When I think of "dive bar", I think of this place, and that's why it gets my five stars. So if you have read some of my other reviews you know I fluctuate between high end dining and dive bars. This review and rating for the Baltimore is based on a comparison to other dive bars and not fine dining. We always stop in here whenever we're spending the night in Detroit. It's a fun bar during the day if you're in town for an event like a Tigers or Lions game. At night, when the out of town folks go back home after the game, it becomes a hot spot for locals to congregate and have a few drinks. They offer decent bar food and the atmosphere and music varies wildly from country to hip-hop. There is a fantastic diversity of culture and an all around good vibe. The bottom line: The Baltimore is a fun and friendly Detroit dive bar. read more

Classic shithole bar. I walked in most recently with a few friends during a Greektown bar crawl. It was our second stop. We walked in to a practically-empty bar. Much to our dismay, the light-up bar wasn't on; we asked and they said it's broken. Nothing like fixing the one thing that makes your bar desirable; because everything else about this place is awful. High drink prices, smaller-than-standard pours on shots and overall dirty feel. This isn't a bar I'd visit again in the future. read more

This bar has great potential, but the Saturday night I was there it was a dump. For starters, the bathroom was absolutely disgusting and what I would consider out of commission, the atmosphere was super trashy and the bartenders didn't know how to make pretty basic shots. I could see how this could be a cool hole-in-the-wall if you went during the week, but I don't recommend on the weekends unless you want to get black out drunk or bump into people all night long. There is a little bar in the back which was not open, which could have provided for a VERY different, and more pleasurable, experience. read more

My recent service at this bar is an example of how discrimination and bigotry can hurt a businesses bottom line. I went to this "classy" establishment and ordered a few drinks, the alcoholic bartender who will remain nameless refused to accommodate a group of black patrons "frozen drinks", which I guess was reasonable he was the only one there and this is a basic dive bar, no fancy drinks allowed. He went on to go on a rant about the "ghetto" "ratchet" stragglers from the more "hip hop" bar next door. I noticed he told 2 other black couples there was only outside sitting and none was available at the moment. My racist radar is rarely wrong. I watched closely for how he treats the next white people who ask for service. A white couple came in for drinks next and were courteously led to a table INSIDE the bar. Not only did this employees discrimination cost the establishment paying customers, I also felt obligated as a concerned citizen to post this all too common practice in bars and clubs around the country. I now have an excuse never to go to this cess pool of ignorance ever again. I will be taking my business to the ghetto hip hop bar next door. -Concerned customer read more

I will NEVER come to the place again. EVER. Friday after the Downtown Xmas Tree event, my friends and I decided to grab some drinks because we were all in such a good mood. We saw a sign outside of Baltimore that said 3 shots for $10. Seemed like a good deal.... My friends went to get them and they came back upset. I'm like whats wrong. Apparently the bartender (a short woman with short black hair) was very rude to one of my friends and she was upset. She said that the bartender poured the shots in TINY SHOT GLASSES and when my friend asked her to use a regular shot glass she told her this was what she was going to get. My friends explained they just wanted what they paid for and she just shrugged and said whatever. I couldn't believe my ears. I personally found the bartender and was like what's happening? She was rude to me as well. Shrugged. Said she can only do so much.nSo I grabbed the manager. The manager wasn't rude but was very aloof about what was happening. He simply didn't care. I felt powerless and unwelcome. And since there was nothing I could do about it, I just shut down and started crying. We left. Went somewhere else. All this to say. Never go there. Terrible customer service. Baby shots. Nearly ruined our entire night. And you know, I'm also going to throw in this that we are black. Don't know if that matters, but there's been a lot of racial incidents in Detroit as of late with it being gentrified. It was very disheartening and we didn't want to jump to that conclusion, but there are so many sad stories of black people literally being pushed out of downtown. Hope that wasn't the case, but I can only say how I feel. F this place for making me cry. read more

Good bar to kick off the night or before a game. Drinks are a great price and atmosphere is open with alot of friendly folks looki g to have a good time. The specials of 3 tequilla shots for $10 is always a good start. Only wish is that they could drink some more upscale drinks. read more

Ah I wish I was home in Michigan just a bit more these days. I'm in Michigan for 1 day a week, which is Saturday. This means, I have to go to Eastern Market, stop by Old Miami, Nemos, Bakers, Polish Village, Lilys, On The Rocks, get my favorite sandwich at Que Huong, and still mow my freaking yard before I fly back out on Sunday. The last two Saturdays I've had the joy of taking some friends that don't really come to Detroit much. We hit the Eastern Market wine shop to say hi to Dan, Baltimore, Old Miami, and El Ray taco in Mexican town When we sat down at the Baltimore their eyes lit up when we were handed the standard house whiskey shot and then a follow up shot which chases with Strohs. I can't believe I haven't reviewed The Baltimore yet. I always have such a great time there. It's just your little hole-in-the-wall bar, but the drinks are well worth what you pay and the music is just right. The back room is always packed, and it's where the music is. In my experience, you can also get drinks quicker back there. The front has a few nice long booths, which are perfect if you have a large group. Bathrooms are in the hallway between the two rooms, and they really are pretty crappy. But then again, I don't expect much of a bar bathroom. As long as there's soap and toilet paper, I'm fine. There are so many great bars downtown, and this one is no exception. read more

I hate this rathole. Their food is awful. $6 BLT with three pieces of bacon on wonder bread, really? They advertise cheap prices, but pay attention to your tab, they add drinks on it left and right. I've personally seen multiple people complain to the same effect in 15 minute span. I have been with people that were there for three beers and charged for more than double. I go here on occasion with some WSU friends, but I'd rather not. I don't know how this joint stays open. Hopefully B-dubs puts them out of business. read more

Favorite hole in the wall bar! There's always a good crowd and their prices are not steep. If you're friendly with the bar tending staff, they're likely to hook up your tab, too. Maybe because of the deal on drinks, I always end up dancing here. They play good music that is sometimes all over the place but oh-so-good. I've noticed that they tend to turn the other cheek to smokers, however. So beware if you don't want to wake up smelling like the regret of too many cheap drinks at a hole in the wall in the D. read more

Three stars stands for "A-OK" according to Yelp, and that sounds about right. I didn't fall in love with the place, but I'd go back. We were walking over to The Well and on our way we spotted a sandwich board sign in front of the Baltimore that read "Jameson or 1800 3 / $10". We're like, "um ok we've got to check that out". The place is grungy and divey, but we're no strangers to that scene so it didn't turn us off. The bar top is hella cool and lit up like a disco dance floor. The very friendly older ladies behind the bar were happy to pour up our shots and make sure we were taken care of. The shots seemed small even though the glasses were full, but the three of them added up to about two regular sized shots. So two for $10 is still a fine price for either Jameson or 1800. read more

Does Detroit need bars called Dive bars? Or, when you're city is sucking hind-tit in every possible, measureable way, do all bars become divey? Well, leaving that existential question for another time, allow me to drop some facts on you about this place: 1) Cheap beer. They sell $2 cans of Stroh's. Which, btw, used to be made in Detroit, but like everything else that you guys used to make, is now made cheaper by someone else. Sorry, Detroit. 2) They have a DJ on Wednesday nights. He brings a group of his friends. They dance. Also, very drunk college age white girls may also be dancing. 3) The place is dirty - in a good way. If Detroit has upscale bars, this isn't one. As other users describe, a eclectic mix of patrons, Tons of stupid crap on the walls, and rock-bottom prices on *bottled* PBR make this place a dive. Overall, I'd go back if I ever have to spend another night in Detroit and was looking for a pseudo-hipster dive bar patronized by bad hip-hop playing DJs and white college girls. read more

I love this place. Is The Baltimore classy? No. It's not trying to be...and that's what I love about it. This isn't a place where you come to "see and be seen." It's a place you come to drink and possibly meet some regular people. Would I eat here? I wouldn't set out to eat dinner here, but if it's getting late in the evening and I'm craving a grilled cheese or something, I might give it a whirl. I haven't yet, but I'm not saying that I'd completely rule it out. It's divey. If you don't like dives, you will not like The Baltimore. If you're scared of Detroit, you probably won't like The Baltimore either. The bartenders are always friendly and engaging. The drinks are reasonably priced. Whether for a few minutes or a few hours, it's a place I always seem to enjoy. So if you're a down-to-earth person who generally gets along well with others, you'll probably fit in perfectly. read more

The best thing about this place is it's location- It is close to a lot of the stadiums and theatres - but it is also close to a lot of other bars. (Can anyone say pub crawl?!?!?) I won't do too much reviewing of the decor - it's not a pretty place... but it is a fun place. I've only been when it's busy- and boy do they get busy. Grilled cheese is fantastic- and drink prices don't make me raise my eyebrows. Bathroom is definitely sketchtastic. My favorite part about the bathroom was waiting in line to use it during the Final Four weekend at Ford Field and having some dumb girls in front of me talk about how they should have more bathrooms. I politely explained to her that they do not have the Final Four in Detroit every weekend, so the lines for the bathroom are usually not so long. She was a smart girl. read more

This is probably one of my favorite hole in the wall in the D! The drinks are stiff and cheap. The bar staff will treat you like family. I dunno if this is an establishment that you would wanna come watch a game at or not... I felt like the last time I was there, they lacked on having a few tv's. However, their jute box is legendary (well in my eyes and amongst my friends anyway) if you are into hip/hop, and old school bears- then this is the place for you! This is a great dive bar, which is walking distances to Greektown, Ford Field and Comerica Park. The bartenders are friendly and attentive. The beer is relatively cheap, in comparison to the bars in this area. They do have a small kitchen, which you can get a grilled cheese for $2, and who doesn't want a grilled cheese while they are drinking. There is no cover to get it in. It was a sunny opening day for the Tigers and we had taken the Night Move to Detroit to partake in the national tradition of drinking till you puke whilst watching our national past time. Not having tickets to the game, we didn't really want to spend time jumping bars, instead wanted to try to get a seat somewhere so we could focus our efforts solely on beer. The Well was packed and I'm not a huge fan of fighting massive crowds, so we checked out The Baltimore right next door. It's not a bad joint, beers are a decent price, although they did run out of both PBR's and Labatt Blue Lights at around 2pm... slightly odd, but still no big deal. The real deal breaker for this bar were the dudes that kept getting on the bar. Girls dancing on the bar is one thing (and there was plenty of that) but when a dude gets on the bar and lifts his shirt to reveal his gut and his hairy chest... not cool in my book. I don't dock the bar any stars for that, but for god's sake dude... keep your shirt on. I had just eaten too... not sure how he expected me to keep those chicken tenders down. read more

Granted, I've only been here once, but once was enough. A group of 10 of us stopped by during a pub crawl for my friend's birthday on a Saturday night. The place was packed...with smokers. For those of you from out-of-state, Michigan does have a smoking ban, but apparently it doesn't apply here. What an awesome hot spot in Detroit! We wandered in here because the Well had a line. I love the two different rooms - both are divey and this place is not pretentious at all. The front room had one of those MP3 jukeboxes and the back room had a DJ and people were actually dancing. It was a very cool crowd and every one was fired up. Came here just because we saw it. No expectations. While I loved the bartenders and the deals (three shots of 1800 for ten bucks) the music is alright I guess. You can put money in the 21st century juke box but the app they have isn't very user friendly so it's irritating. Buy outside of that I can't complain about the place. Very attentive and will make drinks to your desire. Our bartender was Eddie and he was great. He has a special shot he makes after midnight that was interesting (but strong). Looks kind of dumpy from outside, and well, inside too. Waitresses ranged from cute blondes in their early 20's to older women who appear to have worked there since their 20's. The one bartender kept walking by when the music cut off in between songs on the jukebox and saying "shots" under her breath in some freudian attept to get us to unconsciously want to order shots. Love this bar. Been going here for years. Every morning I would come and get lunch or breakfast but now that Ted is gone I dont really come as much. $2 strohs beer is my fav. They do 3 for $10 1800 shots but I hate 1800 so they usually hook me up with Jameson instead witch is very cool. The bathrooms definitely needs some work done and I never go into the back bar because I hate being in packed areas but the front is a good chill spot.
