I have had my dog groomed about 4 times here. Its not far from where i live, so i have brought my dog here when i my usual groomer is booked and i can't find anywhere else. Everytime i have brought my dog here, i think, yeah its not the best, but there is always something that happens to make me regret the experience. This place is way too run down to have any right in charging the amounts they charge, first off. While, the set up of a shop doesn't determine how good they are as groomers, it does give a clue that they dont care much. I say groomers although the only one that seems to ever be working there is Holly. That is usually the excuse that is given on why my dog is never ready by the time I am gi en. The last time I even said "im going to give you an extra hour since he's never ready by the time you guys tell me" (which she got a little pissy in her response) Even with the extra hour, my dog was still not ready. Then i am told that shes the only one working there that day and so she has really had her hands full. Well, then dont tell me you can groom my dog then, you can't accept every animal that comes in if you know that you are the only one working there. I dont believe that another groomer called out. Ive never seen another groomer there. While Holly seemed very nice at first, the moment you say anything negative, and dont acceot the poor excuses. she shows thats an act. She then becomes very nasty and rude. I can only imagine how that irritation might come out with an animal that may not be well behaved. The whole cash only thing should make them cheaper than places who have to pay card processing fees. Having to have cash on me is an inconveinance to me and I am helping them. (Likely helping them not report all their earnings) The prices though are about the same as the place i usually go to, which my dog is ready in two hours and not 6 or 8 like i have experienced with them. The initial quote started off great, but then i found that doesn't include everything and Holly will add on pricing for things so by the end its a rushed job that is worth about half the price charged. Now two of the times my dog has had issues with his toe nails being clipped. She has caused my dog to bleed and clipped too far, twice. I dont care that the dogs nails are black so that its harder to guage how far you can cut, you should know as groomer how far to cut. Once isnt great but the second time she did it on two nails and one was cut so far he was limping for days. He now freaks out if anyone gets close to that foot playing with him. There are better places, not far from here, that are a far better experience for both you and your animal. There is no reason to support this business and its low end servcies. I am honestly surprised there are so many good reviews. Although i do notice that many of them are over 6 years old. They might have been nicer in the past, but they dont provide a good experience now. read more

I have been exploring my small business options for dog groomers. Since I was in the area, I decided to try this dog grooming small business located just off the 15 freeway. UNPROFESSIONAL is how I can sum up the work at Animal Salon. The workers are a bit rough around in the edges, but maybe I am used to my usual Dirty Dogs in North County that greets my dog with a sing song voice etc. ?? Unprofessional: The lady who trimmed my dog's nails was the complete opposite of cheerful. She said to my dog, " If you dare bite me, you will regret it". Kinda harsh? Maybe she was joking? Unprofessional: there was a problem with scheduling. I was impressed by the Yelp reviews so I called Animal Salon to set an appointment for a bath and nail trim because I headed to work. She told me to come in at 8:30 AM. Which I did, and she did not arrive at all. Luckily there was a nice older lady working at Animal Salon who gave my dog a bath while I waiting for my original groomer to arrive. I would have given Animal Salon zero stars if not for her. Also, be aware that for a simple dog bath and nail trim for a short haired small dog isn't 30 minutes. Animal Salon quoted me 1.5 to 2 hours. No wonder places like Dirty Dogs do so well in business. I knew this wasn't going to a good experience the moment I entered the salon to drop my dog off for his appointment. A couple red flags: The appointment making process was fairly easy, but it might have been a little too easy. I was able to make an appointment just by giving them my dog's breed and name. I expected them to ask if he was a new customer and for his vaccination record. They didn't seem to care about those things, so who knows if the other dogs they handle were vaccinated. When I arrived to drop him off for his salon, everyone had their hands tied. The workers saw me walk in, glanced at me, and went back to their work. Not greeted and they just left me waiting until someone was ready to see me. It took around 5 minutes of me standing there and I was the only customer there. Being it was my first time here, I didn't know which person my groomer was (Jenna). But turns out that she was the first person who saw me come in... still left me hanging. It was kind of awkward but whatever. It just seemed like she wanted to get the job done and go home. When she took my dog, I told her that I wanted a full-service grooming but I didn't want his hair cut too short. I just wanted it trimmed and tidied up. I wanted him to keep his coat for winter and I love his long hair. My dog is a curly long-haired dog and when I got him back, his hair was cut so short I really couldn't recognize him. Now he's a straight short-haired dog until he can grow back his coat. I wanted a TRIM but she gave a shave. I wish I would have said something on the spot but I was so shocked about how my dog looked that I was kind of speechless. Also, turns out that teeth brushing is not included in the "full-service" grooming. It's an additional charge of $10. Had I known that up front, I would've just brushed his teeth myself. Weird. Whatever. I never got any orientation to their menu of services because they didn't seem to care to know if I was a new customer or not. I don't know, my experience here was just not the best. The worst part is that when I took him home and examined him (and the reason I'm writing this review), he had razor burns all over. There's even a cut on his lip! I've came here three times now since last year. My best experiences have been with Holly. She just nails it every time with what I want for my dog. I give Holly a 5/5 . For the salon presentation itself, I would give it a 3.5/5 stars. A little refresh and a new coat of paint on the walls and some organization to the salon itself would be good. When you walk into the establishment, it just looks chaotic. The biggest issue I have which another Yelper mentioned is they don't ask for vaccination records or rabies certificate of any sort, like ever. This makes me question many things. Pricing is better than most places and are an average of 5-10 cheaper here. They only accept cash or venmo FYI. Overall - I like this place. I come here and another groomer in PQ. Kim has been cutting our Adobo's hair for about a year. Nothing fancy; we get a short cut every 4-5 months when Adobo's coat gets too long and she comes in from the yard looking like a lint brush. Kim does a wonderful job. Today, she was genuinely excited to see Adobo, and Adobo was eager to see Kim. That's all I need to see. Adobo looks wonderful as always. Update: Kim has left the salon, but we found Yulia. She does a fantastic job keeping Princess Adobo beautiful and so soft! She also noticed how much I loved Adobo in bows! He was licking his feet with blood on it all night. The reason I went there to begin with, is because I saw dogs coming out of there that were amazing. As I got into the salon, I noticed dogs were shaking and scared. What should have tipped me off that this was a second rate dog salon, was that they wanted me to pay in "cash only", and didn't want to give me a receipt at first. My little Bichon baby (Wei Wei) has been coming here for a little over a year now and our family is extremely satisfied with the Animal Salon and their exceptional services. The first few times, we came in with no specific requests for who would be working with Wei Wei but were always happy with the service received. We came in once with a general inquiry and Alissa addressed our question with such thoroughness and genuine care that we started requesting Alissa for all future visits. Although she is extremely busy, she is extremely meticulous in her work and is very detailed. One time, the store closed at 6 and Alissa stayed till approximately 6:30 to finish up with Wei Wei. When we picked her up, it was only Wei Wei, Alissa, and Alissa's adorable dog who accompanies her occasionally when she's at work. It was during Christmas time and despite the late hours, Alissa offered to make Christmas bows for Wei Wei so she would be "ready for any Christmas pictures". Absolutely lovely lady who genuinely cares for your dogs - what more can you ask for?! Their prices are reasonable and the owners are very friendly and accommodating. They can get pretty busy at certain times so I recommend making an appointment beforehand. Keep in mind they are heavily booked so from dropping off your dog to pick-up, expect at least a few hours for them to finish up with your pup. Although they don't personally offer teeth cleaning services, they have an outside company (I believe it's only one lady who actually does the cleaning) come in once a month to provide a no-anesthetic teeth cleaning service. Great place and highly recommend if you want to be rest assured your baby will be in good hands! read more

Briana is my groomer. I have had her grooming my Shih Tzu's for the past 3 years. She is an excellent groomer, and loves animals. My dogs love her, and are always excited when they see her. I had one male dog that every time I tried to brush him, he would growl and nip and bite. I got his at 8 weeks old, so I know he was never mistreated while being groomed. Briana took her time with him, and he is actually getting so much better. He looks great EVERYTIME she grooms him, and he is always in high spirits when he is picked up. @Rupa, I know many people that use and swear by Briana's caring nature and attention to detail. I'm doubt very seriously that your review is true....I guess however, there's a "Karen" in every crowd. I have such a busy schedule so I don't have time to write a review everywhere I go. However, I do make a point to write one if the business has gone above and beyond, drop the ball big time, or getting bullied by unreasonable customers. I am composing this review for Animal Salon because 1) It has been a great place I have been going to for years, and perhaps taken for granted and 2) I see the unjust comments from some reviewers here and I have to share my experience to help readers see the total picture. I started coming here since 2015 getting two of our dogs groomed. One was a pitbull boxer and one is a Maltese Shitzu mix. I used to go with whoever was available, so at times I would use other groomers in North County (Escondido or RB area) if that's where they could get my babies in. After my amazing Pitbull boxer passed away at the age of 14 in 2018, we did not welcome another dog until 2020. Since I live by the North County Fair mall, I just stayed closer to my house for grooming. In 2020, We got a Belgian Malinois. Amazing amazing dog but she definitely wants to be IN CONTROL and has great separation anxiety. I tried 4 pretty highly rated groomers in my area, NO ONE really could groom my Malinois without issues. That's when I met Holly at Animal Salon, gave her a try, and the rest is history. She is familiar with how to handle a Malinois, and is BEYOND ACCOMMODATING! She knows my Malinois gets nervous with separation anxiety, so she would let me wait for her to get done with bath, De-shed, dental clean, nail trim, while I wait in the parking lot. 1hour to 1 hour and 20 minutes. I will hand her my Maltese/Shitzu and take my nicely groomed Malinois home. My dogs LOVE Holly! She even dog-sits for me when I travel for business. Yes, once in a while, there may be little cuts from trimming my Maltese Shitzu, but nothing devastating. It's a little nick and cut. Remember, we are dealing with puppies and dogs... things happen. MEN- if you are here being totally unwilling to exercise grace, I want you to think about how easy it is to nick yourselves while shaving your facial hair. That task is far easier than shaving an animal's abdomen! And you have been shaving since adolescence... which concludes, years of experience does not exempt us from having a little mishaps from time to time. I can't imagine all these tough critics do their line of work with 100% precision without ever making a mistake or demonstrated any flaws. The most disappointing thing with these reviews is, people are more motivated to write bad reviews than good ones! It is such a frustrating experience. Small business owners have to deal with this inequality in customer feedback with their extremely busy and taxing schedules. I hope everyone can just give a little room for grace and understanding. Finally- about the charges.... If there is a price "hike", and you are upset, could you just track the prices of our gas per gallon over the last 18 months and gain some perspective? These groomers still have to pay for gas and experience all the price hikes you experience. Why is it that they are not allowed to adjust pricing like everyone else? If paying cash isn't your thing, then go to another location. It is hard enough making it out there as a working mom with kids, when these hard working people that are not asking for a hand out, let's give them some props. They are putting themselves out there to make a living for their family and providing great services. I have been using Holly since 2020, been going to Animal Salon since 2015. It s a great place. Holly is great. So, before putting people on blast or try to join the lawsuit happy club, give people a chance.. and give yourselves a chance to get off of your high horse. read more

I am actually VERY sad that I need to take it here and write this review but what happened today was absolutely unacceptable to a point where I feel like I need to unload and tell you about ALL of my terrible experiences. To start, I have lived in PQ for many years and have been coming here for 5+ years. You can't beat the price and it's conveniently located. I try to get whoever is first available to avoid that craziness from the after school education center, etc. I have gone to several different groomers and this is literally the worst place. I think that's why there is always availability and such low prices to be honest but in the end, my dog looked cute so I stuck with it. Holly is the ABSOLUTE WORST PERSON AND GROOMER ON THIS EARTH! She is nasty inside and out! First thing about her... do NOT TRUST HER. The last time I came here, she upcharged me saying they're all independent contractors and she can charge what she sees fit. I spoke to Sharon to complain about being more transparent about the price hikes especially when they ONLY TAKE CASH! She said they did NOT RAISE THEIR PRICES AND HOLLY SHOULD NOT HAVE DONE THAT. Also, HELLO IRS!!! Secondly, Holly SWEARS UP AND DOWN that I specifically requested her. She even called me a psychopath when I denied it. I would NEVER specifically request her after she tried to scam me. I asked for FIRST AVAILABLE and it happened to be her. You smoke too much Holly and it's killing your brain cells if you have any! When I dropped my dogs off to Sharon, I specifically said I didn't know who the appointment was with. But this chick was yelling that in my face and literally called me a f*cking psychopath. VERY PROFESSIONAL. Third, I go there for the prices and convenience. NOT FOR YOU HOLLY. They have old fashioned paper/pen system so she swears Jenna did his hair last time but Jenna specifically told me she'll leave it to Holly because I had very specific instructions for my dog. I don't think she could handle it or was maybe newer. I have no clue... it was very specific but not absurd (leaving the wick, paws short, teddy bear face but short). Who actually groomed him that time? I don't know... but THAT is when Holly upcharged me so uhmmm yea. The other girl, whether it's Jenna or not, was very sarcastically trying to tell me to have a nice day when I left pissed wasting several hours of just paying to have my dog locked up by a groomer who "did this for years" but can't even handle a 10lb dog.. When Holly charged me $40 to bathe chewy and lock him up in a crate for 3 hours... she said oh you're so nice. Really? Nice? Nice people talk to customers this way and charge $40 for torturing my dog in a cage while you work on millions of other dogs? I'm sure this chick would love for her dog to be caged up neglected with anxiety from a terrible experience and think her groomer is "too nice". I told her to f*ck off and she thought it was SOOO funny. Why do I owe these unprofessional trashy low quality groomers respect? She claims she has several years of experience but EVERY TIME I take my dog to the groomer, all groomers blow dry my chewy JUST FINE. They actually know what they're doing and how to handle dogs. Holly is literally the only one that struggles so she has to cage him up to "air dry" while she tries to take on more dogs than she can even handle. Dirty dogs finishes my dogs in 1.5 hours. Maybe I just need to pay more for better quality groomers but they just haven't had availability recently and I was in a rush to get him groomed before a trip. I don't even think she's struggling. She's flat out LAZY! There was another time I brought my dog and she told me 15 more minutes or whatever BS response she gives over the phone. I go there and my dog is caged up while she's on her smoke break. then you take 30 more minutes to ACTUALLY START the grooming process. This girl is a class act. Seriously... She's very adamant you can't record in there when I'm just checking my phone... probably so you don't see her unprofessional behavior on camera. Sharon saw this behavior and said she'll take my dog. I never tried Sharon bc she's not always available and would love to but I'm actually afraid Holly will hurt my dog while he's with Sharon because she is THAT crazy. I'm not going to lie... the cut Holly does is exactly what I ask for and how I want it. The way she does it... not cool. This is the only place I've been to where 3 hours in, my dog hasn't even had 1/10 of any haircut part started. She asked me how long I've been grooming dogs for... I owned my dog for 10 years and had dogs before that. I take 2 hours total to groom because that's not my profession... Feel free to let me know if you have found other places that have this terrible work ethic bc I'll avoid those groomers at all costs! I have 2 doodle pups who I knew might be a little challenging when we started them at the groomers in June (7mo & 5mo). Holly prepped me for success on the phone. We'd start slow, bath and blow dry (no clippers) to get them acquainted while she gauges each pup's temperament during the process. She said we'll leave it open ended to go further with full groom, if they permitted. I loved this idea. At first intro, Holly took her time to get to know each pup before starting the process. I sensed they were in good hands. Hours later, I picked them up and to my surprise, both were fully groomed with "teddy bear" cuts and in very happy spirits. Our 2nd grooming experience last week had a new challenge. One pup was filled with mats. Holly pointed out matting on her ears and if not addressed could result in hematoma (restricted blood flow). She educated me and showed me photos. At that point, I knew my pup had to be fully shaved. Holly also informed me of ear infection and did her best to eliminate most of the ear hair because this may hinder medicine from reaching the deeper parts of the ear canal. This 2nd visit showed true professionalism and excellent care by Holly. I now cannot imagine taking our dogs to anyone else. read more

This was my 2nd time coming here & I am glad that I gave it a second change because my 1st time was a disaster. The groomer told me it would take 2 hours for a groom but it took her 4 hours... Why? I came to the store after 2 hours, she told me to come back in 1 hour, I came back, she said give her another 30 minutes, which turned into another hour. & she forgot to cut my Yezi's nails on top of it! But this time I had Kristen & she was a joy to my Yezi who is a Maltipoo! Kristen was incredibly friendly to me & my pup, gave me a 1-2 hour timeframe, gave me a call at 1.5 hours to notify me that she was finished, & when I picked Yezi up, she looked beautiful! I have been going to Animal Salon for over a year now & have always had very positive experiences. I've had both Holly & Jenna as groomers & they always go above & beyond to meet my expectations. My dog Kino (German Shepherd/Husky mix) is a shedder & they do an extremely good job of getting all his impacted hair out, while keeping him happy, & also (a perk) at a good price. Our groomer, Jenna! I was using a mobile groomer but she became no longer available and I thought I would go to the Animal Salon (support your local small businesses) and see if I could find a reliable, talented (knowledgeable with Pomeranians) and professional groomer. Just our luck Jenna was available the day we came in and now she IS our groomer. Fred & Ginger have never looked better! She is through and knows how to brush their teeth, clip their nails, shave the sanitation area and give them the best "scissoring" to give my fur balls the cutest little "pants " Thanks Jenna! read more

Holly is great and did a wonderful job of grooming my Bernedoodle puppy. He looks and smells great! More importantly, She also noticed he had an ear infection and I took him to the vet and sure enough he did. I had no idea but really appreciated her informing of this. Holly and her salon were highly recommended to me by 5 different people (apparently they do the "perfect Corgi butt")! Every one of them said the same thing- the place is great, the dogs come out happy and the team actually cares about the animals! Of course, I had to try it. Welp- everyone was 100% spot on. My dog, Lou, is a big and excitable Goldendoodle who is pretty sensitive when it comes to vet clinics and groomers. The whole reason I decided to try Animal Salon was because every time I picked him up from the previous place he was visibly depressed, overheated, flinch-y and just not himself for the rest of the day. Here everything is totally different! Today was only his second visit with Holly, so it was hilarious and so refreshing to see him start barking and prancing the second we got out of the car in the parking lot, and then run right up to Holly to give her the biggest smooth on her face that even made her crack up! I literally just picked him up right now and I had to coax him to come home with me. What honestly makes me completely love this salon is the fact that Holly knows what she's doing. She is the kind of groomer that has years of experience under her belt and will tell you how your pup is doing with frankness and complete transparency. A lot of people don't get that groomers see more than we do- they see our animals' skin condition, ear gunk, paws, funny moles and everything else. When they tell us that they saw something, they are telling us because they genuinely care about our animals- it's not like they are going to benefit from telling us that our dogs need to go to the vet. That being said, Holly actually brought to my attention that Lou had a hidden stitch remaining in a healed wound from a procedure that took place *three months ago* that had not dissolved completely, and thanks to her and her handiwork we were able to avoid a possible future infection! Anyway- I love it here and won't go anywhere else as long as I live in San Diego. Period. Holly has a great energy, steady hand, loving vibe and is in business for a reason. 100/10 would/will forever recommend! read more
