I have a very difficult border collie that has had one groomer who unexpectedly retired. My search has been a long one to find a groomer who can work with dogs who have anxiety, don't like to be brushed, had longer hair and was extremely matted after I tried to bathe myself. I expected the worst outcome, they said it would take 2-4 hours and would call if there was an issue. They called in an hour and a half and I expected them to say he was a lost cause. Instead they said he was finished and did great. When I arrived, he was loose in the back with the groomers and their pets and looked happy NO stress. I have been taking Molly to The Barker Shoppe since we moved to Antioch almost three years ago and Brittany is wonderful with her. Not only does she do a great job grooming but more importantly she takes such good care of her which is more important to me. Molly is almost 18 years old. Brittany is so kind and patient and gives her the attention she needs with little breaks so she doesn't get too anxious. I'm sure Molly is not the easiest to groom with her old lady lumps, bumps and moles but Brittany does an amazing job. I'm grateful I can drop Molly off and feel confident she's in good hands. Took my dog here for the first time and she got the worst ear infection ever ! She had to be rushed to animal hospital in excruciating pain. The hospital gave her morphine for the pain and steroids . Then I had to take her to my vet. They had to treat her more. She has been on several antibiotics and steroids and ear drops for months. The pain she was in was absolutely heartbreaking! She wound up losing part of her hearing due to this. And cost me lots of missed work and thousands for all the visits and medication. I will never return again ! I have been taking my dog to the Barker Shoppe for 2 1/2 years and most of the time, I am satisfied, and sometimes quite pleased with the grooming. This mornng, she was groomed again and when I went to pay, I was informed that the fee for grooming had increased by 10%. I was not informed in advance, by message, when I scheduled the appointment or when I dropped her off today. I was shocked and not sure how to react. When I got home I realized that I had forgotten to leave a tip for the groomer. So I called back and spoke to Tammy, to whom I pleasanted expressed my feelings and asked why she hadn't informed me in advance, she said that they had signs up "all over" with a notice of the increase. Somehow I hadn't see them with all of the other window dressing there. At the same time, with a big increase like that, I feel that good customer service requires a personal contact, especially as I believed that I had a good relationship with Tammy and Brittany, her groomer. When I informed Tammy that there were other local groomers who charged much less, her response was that I should take my dog there....I guess customer loyalty and appreciation are a thing of the past. read more

My first time was wonderful, all done professionally, even and clean. My second - different person, not so much. The grooming was poor, lots of clumps and uneven spots. So, to schedule the third one, I actually drove in person. Learned that first person who did wonderful job, quit. So I asked for someone else besides who did my dog second time, and was schedule with Peg. All I asked was, to shave my dog evenly, face included. This one was worst grooming we ever had in 5 years owning this god. Uneven shaving, legs were not shaves, face looked undone and un touched. Fur around nails was long and undone. Around ears was not done, neck was done poorly, just awful. So I called next day and they were nice enough to take us back to fix everything. After I showed Peg all the missed spots, she said, well your dog would not let me touch her, she is not easy, that's why. So that was her excuse? She did good job fixing it, but with the attitude. I am still wondering why didn't she do a professional job first time. Speaking about attitude, they talked about me behind my back, the environment is just not professional. read more

0 stars if I could, I have been coming here for the last 12 years and have never had a problem. Today I was treated like absolute garbage and was told to get a life. They shaved my dog bald and told me my dog is too much of a hassle to deal with (she's 7lbs) they threatened to call the police if I ever come back and I felt I was completely reasonable with them and polite considering this is the same place I've been coming for years. Reported this to the BBB so hopefully they learn a lesson about customer service and how not to treat VERY loyal customers. Took our lab here about 5 times. They seemed to do an ok job. But the last visit was a bit telling. After they handed our dog over, her paws were full of other dogs hair clippings. My husband mentioned it to the staff and was ignored. Instead of offering to clean them off my husband did it. Also we've noticed her one nail has been bleeding. Looks like it was trimmed too short. Not sure what shampoo they use but our dog has dandruff since returning. To top it off it's a bit on the expensive side. Done with this business. read more

Well...if you need help getting skunk smell off your dog, don't call these people. We were asked NOT to bring our dog in because they did not want their salon to smell. My dog got sick the second time he was groomed at this place (we recently moved to the area). He vomited on the way back and continue vomiting after drinking water or having any food. Not sure what happened as the first time he was really happy but the second time he was groomed by a different person (someone very opinionated and dismissive). I had to take him to the vet the next day as vomiting continued (he had his annual checkup two weeks before the grooming appointment and he was doing very well) and while we do not know what happened at the grooming shop (or if he was given some treat or something) the vet gave him shots for stomach upset as well as for preventing any infection. Awful experience and very upsetting for my dog and for me. read more

Had a great experience today! As a newbie to the area I am always nervous to leave my dog with a new place, but The Barker Shop had a very friendly staff and it was the cutest setup inside filled with happy dogs of all sizes. I felt confident leaving my dog and knew he was well taken care of. This is my honest experience with The Barker Shoppe. Please form your own opinion but I feel it is extremely important that I share with you my first hand experience so you are more educated. I had been a customer of theirs for over a year. I had been very pleased with their service and had no reason to think otherwise. Everyone had always been very nice and accommodating. Coming up on a month ago now I had taken my dogs as normal for their monthly wash and trim. After dropping them off a hour later I received a phone call from my tending groomer who've I had the entire time. The groomer informed me that they had a situation with one of my dogs. One of the first things the groomer asked me was if my dog has had seizures. No she never has. She was a perfectly happy, active, and healthy 2.5+ year old sheltie. The groomer went on to tell me that she was on the grooming table being dried. She began to foam at the mouth. They unhooked her and turned the dryer off. She fell down and passed away. My husband picked her up from the shop. He said that she was warm still when he got her and she was laying on top of a cage. The groomer stated the same information to him as she had relayed to me over the phone but added that they also tried CPR on her. Never in my wildest dreams would I expect this to happen at the groomer. We are heart sickened and very much missing our fur baby and so does her fur sister. :'( read more

I have been taking my three dogs, a mini schnauzer, a yorkie, and a shorkie (shih tzu/yorkie mix) to the Barker Shoppe for years. After many mishaps with other groomers causing ear infections and just plain ugly haircuts, I would never take my dogs anywhere else! The shop is cute, the owner and her staff are friendly and genuinely love their canine clients. One of my dogs has some ear issues and they always take special care of him and we've never had another problem. And all three always look amazingly cute after their grooming. Our baby boy is short haired so we don't take him to get groomed but we have taken him to get his nails trimmed here. The atmosphere is wonderful! Each time I have come in here I never have any nervous feelings or get worried. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. Our dog also enjoys the people and the other dogs! I love how they bring him in and are not scared of him like most people are (1 year old blue nose). He gets so excited to be around the other dogs. He is put up on the table they trim his nails real quick and painless and he is done. It usually is only a couple minutes we are in there but every time we have been in there it is a pleasant experience. I would highly recommend this place! The prices are reasonable and the staff is knowledgeable. They are only open till 4pm which is sometimes hard with my work schedule but I don't mind stopping in on the weekends because they are very conscious about doing a great job and it only takes minutes.
