Had lunch there on a Monday. Everything was great. Had the rice bowl was super delicious.

I discovered this place through a friend of mine, so I went on a little date night, we went during the weekday so it wasn't as packed, but it felt very comfortable the staff was so nice. The turtle cheesecake is absolutely delicious if you have a big sweet tooth like I do it's the perfect amount of chocolate and caramel (my date doesn't like caramel as much as I do) so it worked for both of us. I also had their barn margarita and it was delicious and made well! Will definitely be coming back! read more

I was flying out of BDL that afternoon, so I did a little research and found this lovely place to stop at for lunch before heading to the airport. I ordered the Seeking Spring cocktail which was very good (highly recommend) and the chicken salad wrap. My waitress was attentive and informative. Actually, everyone I encountered was. The food was very, very good! Highly recommend checking this place out :) I felt a little out of place with my cowboy boots, but no one treated me as the weirdo from off the streets, so that's a plus. Came for my aunts birthday. Not great vegan options. That is the only reason I rated so low. Very frustrated by the lack of options. The edamame burger has cheese in it?? My husband and I ended up getting vegetable burritos but it was literally just the burrito. Had to go to Taco Bell after as we were still hungry. Very good food with lots of beef and seafood options. Since I'm rarely this close to the ocean, I decided to have a seafood only dinner. I started with a variety of fresh raw oysters and they were all tasty, fresh and salty. Listed at Market Price, these are expensive, but very worth it, and you have oysters from a variety of regions to choose from. The drink menu was extensive and offered plenty of options no matter what your preference is. For an entree, I ordered the lobster with crab stuffing, asparagus and smashed potatoes. The lobster and potatoes were phenomenal. The crab stuffing was a bit tangy and bitter and I ended up leaving most of it on my plate. The asparagus was steamed but was large and woody toward the bottom, so I left some of that on my plate as well. Service was very decent and the meal had a nice flow to it. Overall, a very decent stop and I would definitely consider eating here again if I am ever in the area again. read more

I gave 3 stars because it was "just ok" -- nothing was really wrong, but it was expensive and I didn't think the food was amazing for the price. Had a great, first experience here. I highly recommend this restaurant when in the area. Waitstaff were all excellent. The happy hour apps were first quality. No complaints. Planning on heading back again soon. Returned on August 9th. Had a friend with us this time. Happy hour at 4pm while sitting outside. No complaints. This location in Granby is just a great addition to the area. The food here is wonderful. The waitstaff very attentive but not hovering. We ordered a dozen oysters on the half shell. A remarkable plate of very fresh oysters. Their calamari was crisp and full of flavor. Steamers were the "pisser" or little necks variety. Was hoping for cherry stone but these were fine. Stopped here for a quick bite after leaving Brignole Vineyards, was a nice surprise the appetizers were on special for happy hour. We ordered a fondue type dip and ordered poutine. The fondue app was great the poutine was pretty skimpy maybe 4 cheese curds and a tablespoon of gravy a little disappointing but it was still tasty. The bacon cheeseburger was amazing. read more

I was in the area for work for the week, from New York. The barn caught my eye and I thought I'd try it out. I sat at the bar and the bartender wasn't the friendliest. It might have ruined her mood that a woman was really terrible to her that was sitting next to me. I ordered prosciutto and mozz which was alright. Not the best I guess I just expected them to be served on crostini or something. I wasn't feeling the rest of the menu. I had a lemonade drink and that wasn't good. Overall just wasn't impressed with much here. I wouldn't recommend to someone visiting. read more

One of the best dinners out in a very long time. The new menu for fall is.. seriously.. what brought us back to @thebarn. It delivered on a scale that was off the charts. I describe myself as a person with a unrefined palette, but I can tell you that the egg, bacon and toast was incredible. To the point that I mentioned that it beat the restaurant I held in that position. The port tenderloin was so moist and the flavors were perfection for the time of year. The steak kabobs with the balsamic reduction was so tender and savory sweet. If you are looking for a great tasting dinner that leaves you feeling "Happy", @thebarn is a must for the fall season. I never post reviews but feel this is a public health announcement. I ate dinner at The Barn on Sunday, October 22nd. We were in the Hartford area for a lacrosse showcase. My son and I split the truffle fries as an appetizer, he ordered the chicken fingers and Mac&Cheese. Since we were from out of town I asked for suggestions. The waitress said their seafood is so fresh that "it comes in and then right out the door." So I ordered the seafood paella. HUGE MISTAKE! At 3 am I awoke to horrible abdominal pains. I began violently vomiting and did not stop for the next 12 hours. Not to mention we were flying out the next morning and so I had to travel in that condition. I literally have broken blood vessels in and under my eyes from throwing up so violently. I was was absolutely miserable to say the least and I'm just starting to feel normal, almost 3 days later. This needs to be addressed by this restaurant as I can see from past reviews this is not the first time this has happened. For what it's worth, my son was not sickened by the chicken fingers and Mac&Cheese so I guess if you're going to eat here just steer clear of the seafood. I informed the restaurant the next day and they refunded my meal, which I appreciated, considering I lost 3 days of work, and gave me a gift certificate which I'm happy to share with someone as I will never, ever return. read more

I have never had a bad experience here! All their staff is wonderful, easy to talk to and very knowledgeable! Food is absolutely amazing! Everything from their brunch to their lunch salads to dinner! I go here once a week just for my Barn fix! I work very close by and my coworkers and I are always ordering take out for lunch and it's just as good as eating in! Their Mixed Green Salad with chicken is my absolute go-to and of course the Truffle Fries..THEY ARE TO DIE FOR! I crave these!! Love this place!! What a great addition to Granby!! read more

We've been to The Barn to eat a number of times and have never had a bad meal or complaint. The same held true today when the manager, Natasha, stopped by our patio table to chat for a few minutes. Well we went back for happy hour after stopping at Bradley Airport, and its worth the 12min drive if you don't live in the Granby direction. Started with the fish and pulled pork tacos, the fish tacos were great I cant say the same for the pulled pork. Their signature cocktails are $6 4-6 so I got a Manhattan which was properly made. We split the chicken risotto entree for $18 and left pleasantly full. I spoke with one of the managers who did say that their Spring happy hour menu was coming out this week. The staff was very friendly with a side of humor. This will be a normal a stop for us when we go to Bradley Airport! read more

This place is hit or miss. Mostly miss. The food is very salty and overpriced for what you get. I ordered a $30 dish of scallops. There was 4.5 scallops on the plate on a bed of cold and extremely salty finally chopped veggie mix. Their frying oil for such an expensive place looked liked it hadn't been changed in 6 months. We had been to the barn last year in the fall and enjoyed the experience sitting outdoors with some really good food. So I was very excited when my husband brought me to dinner for my birthday. We had reservations and were brought up to the upstairs dining room. The ambiance was that of a 1970's ski lodge with wood beams and an outdated decor. The first thing we noticed was the sense of chaos in the dining room. It was almost full with several big parties and only one server. The server was frantic and explained that the server that had worked up there had been transferred and this was his first night. There was a bar up there but no bartender. He had staff that would come to help but mostly just fill water and walk food. The helpers never knew what table the food was going to so it resulted in a lot of "is this yours" questioning around the room. At several points he begged the girl filling water to stay up there but she would eventually disappear. There was management helping and thank god because I can't imagine if they weren't. Service was delayed, timing was way off and all the while they just kept seating people. When we left there were 7 tables and 2 couples at the bartender less bar. This whole thing implies a lack of care for the staff and customers. It resulted in a chaotic, stressful and rushed birthday dinner. The burden on the staff seemed unreal and unrealistic to expect good service can be provided in that environment. Poor management! The food was also just average. The paella was really amazing but I had a filet with potatoes because I was not into the limited selections of sides for additional cost to the already hefty price. Steak was very overcooked and potatoes bland. They tried to dress it up with a beet "smear" on the plate but it wasn't happening. Probably won't return looking for a great special event meal. For that I recommend Millwrights or Metro Bis in Simsbury where the service is top notch. This might be a better burger and a beer or apps a wine place? Or maybe it's based on location in the restaurant? Whatever you do if you have reservations and they try to sit you upstairs say no. The waiter said the "one server with no dedicated support staff" is their standard weekend service model. read more

Incredibly loud. Even with social distancing of tables my wife and I found ourselves shouting to hear each other. My wife's filet was cooked perfectly as was my grilled rib eye. But at $36 for the rib eye you would think the grilled potatoes and zucchini would have some seasoning on them. Very bland accompaniment. Service was a 2 at best. Not very timely and absolutely no personality. I would maybe go back when Covid is over and grab an appetizer at the bar but that's it. read more

My coworkers and I travel all the time and whenever we are looking for a new spot we look for variety, beer selection, and convenience. The Barn Restaurant has all of these! The only disappointment was that they ran out of a session IPA that I'm rather fond of, having to revert to a standard IPA called Counterweight, which was still very tasty after a long hard work day. Our server was very cute and kept up with our sense of humor, which is always a plus. The table ordered a variety of apps; buffalo wings, pesto chicken flatbread, calamari and I personally ordered the handcut fries which might be the best fries I've ever had!!! Cooked to perfection, tossed with parmesan and parsley served with a truffle aioli that I almost ate with a spoon! For entrees the table ordered a couple a ribeyes, two guys got the California burger (comes with a fried egg on it +=), one of those guys also got two chicken tacos off the bar menu (because he's a bottomless pit) and I ordered the hangar steak with came with delicious blue cheese mashed potatoes and a pickled onion and frisée salad. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted mega! (Sorry for the use of "mega", been hanging around a few British guys this past week so I picked up this slang. Trying not to say it like a California surfer at least. But I digress.....) Only one of us ordered dessert, the chocolate mousse cake. Again, mega!! (Again, sorry..) Seriously, come here on a hot day with an ice cold beer, cocktail, whatever your poison is and get these fries and enjoy your afternoon. You will not regret it!! read more

First time in last night and I will be back again for sure. The space is great, little loud when busy but Granby is a pretty quiet town so it's a good balance. The food was delicious. The shrimp and grits app was creative, flavorful and a must try. The chopped salad was great, although we opted for the garlic bin over the ranch. Then came the pork entree which was simply prepared and very tasty. Drinks were great, the bar was full as was the patio, I didn't check but the dining room looked pretty full too. Went for dinner tonight. Sat in the Loft upstairs. While the server tried, being upstairs made it hard for her to give prompt service. For instance, the 5 minute wait for ketchup was way too long. She had to cash others out, then run downstairs. I had the Steak Frites. Girlfriend had a rice bowl. The Steak Frites was a flavorless, very tough, very skimpy, portion of meat. Totally devoid of flavor. Unsalted, tasteless, fries. Dinner plate served with a small arugula salad with blue cheese. Not bad, but made little sense since dinner came with a salad also. Maybe a different side than a second salad would be a good idea? All in all, maybe a 1.5 star rating. Would definitely not go back. read more

First thoughts were "why is this place so dead at dinner time" and "incredible ambiance." I was really digging the blue lighting in here. We were seated promptly, as there was nobody really else dining there (although the bar was full). The hostess didn't speak English, which I found to be odd. She was nice, but when I asked for water she had no clue what I was saying. It might be helpful if she at least knew some basics. Anywho, our server was very friendly, and attentive to us, again she didn't have anyone else to wait on so I'd expect nothing less. The menu was rather small, and the choices were okay, but I was reaaaallllly craving a steak this night. So, my boyfriend and I each ordered a new york strip, medium rare. Steaks came out quickly and seemed to be cooked perfectly, but i was missing the delicious juice that typically comes with a medium rare steak. The steak wasn't dry by any means, but it definitely wasn't juicy or flavorful enough to be paying an arm and a leg for it. The highlight of my meal was the smashed potato on the side, and my boyfriend's truffle fries. It certainly was not a bad meal, but I think I'd rather spend almost $30 a plate at a place that does it with excellence. read more

1st Time here and the atmosphere and cleanliness were top notch!!! The food was outstanding (we got 4 meals) and every meal was awesome. The service was very good not overbearing or scarce but just right. The lighting and design was unexpected (in a good way). I complimented some employees on the architecture and lighting of the place. They told me of the history regarding the hanging glass ornament made by the owner. Very cool will definitely be back. We are occasional customers, mostly for family get-togethers like birthdays and other celebrations. "The Barn" is the "fanciest" restaurant in Granby, meaning that it is a likely destination for formal family events like the one we attended last night. I had the "lime spiced shrimp rice bowl". My wife had the "goat cheese and beets" salad with chicken ($7 upcharge for the chicken). My meal tasted like nothing. I simply could not discern any particular flavor other than the taste of the six small shrimp. I ate the whole thing anyway, because I was starving! This was unlike any "rice bowl" I ever had. It looked like a Paella, except that it seemed to be missing many of the ingredients a Paella would normally include. My meal did not make me ill or give me an upset stomach. It simply had very little flavor. My wife's meal was equally disappointing. The salad was OK. Nothing special, but OK. The chicken was hard, dry, difficult to cut, tough, overcooked and tasteless. The salad was $12, and was overpriced considering it was the size of a side salad, not an entre. My wife ate very little of this meal. "Dessert" was supposed to be strawberry rhubarb shortcake. The biscuit was hard and overcooked. Tasted no rhubarb whatsoever. "Strawberries" were a stingy spoonful of strawberry jelly or jam. On the plus side, the server was friendly, efficient, and attentive. The atmosphere can only be described as noisy. Prepare to speak loudly if you want to converse with people at your table. Conclusions? A very pricey restaurant. Below average food quality. Limited menu. Unimaginative recipes. Granby could use more competition in this category. read more

At The Barn is easily my new favorite place to at. A warm barn, with lofty ceilings, beautiful decor, a calm and welcoming atmosphere, along with outstanding food and spectacular service. This is the epitome of what barns and other restaurants should be. Nestled discreetly in the center of Granby, At The Barn is a hidden gem you will want to find. My family and I celebrated New Year's Eve with a delicious dinner and dessert (and a coffee cocktail for me, naturally). Each dish we had for our entrees--including grilled swordfish, a steak burger, clam chowder, and sea scallops--was excellent. The chowder was nicely seasoned, the scallops were just the right size and so silky, the swordfish grilled perfectly. And dessert? Well, let me say, as a dessert and coffee connoisseur, At The Barn is the best of the best. I enjoyed a bite of each dessert dish we had, which included an apple crisp (served in an individual ramekin with a good sized scoop of vanilla ice cream), truffles (a special dessert for New Year's Eve, two truffles of three different flavors of coconut, plain cocoa powder, and pistachio), and a gluten free hazelnut brownie (served with a good-sized scoop of vanilla ice cream). Oh, and did I mention the ice cream served is the most outstanding ice cream around--Grass Roots Creamery, a local shop located within walking distance of this barn? We made our decisions ok dessert partially based on getting Grass Roots with it, but we should have known that you cannot go wrong with anything at this barn. The brownie was simply perfection. I had to contain myself from gobbling it down!! It was perfect in flavor and texture. The apples of the crisp were wonderful as well, paired perfectly with raspberries inside too. I also tried a Mexican Mocha Coffee cocktail, with chocolate and spicy liqueurs as well as bourbon and coffee. I have never had a spicy mocha live up to its name--before this one. It was perfection, as well; perfect in flavor and in mixology. Yum!! Everything was very high in quality and perfect in flavor. Most notable of our visit? The service, without a doubt, hands down. Our server, Danielle, as well as the other staff members that served us were kind and very efficient. They made sure we were taken care of throughout our visit. The manager also came to our table several times to ensure we were enjoying ourselves and taken care of (both of which we easily were). Based on this dinner, with the delicious food and the noteworthy service, I plan on going back for brunch and lunch, too--and soon!! If you visit this barn--leave your farm animals home, it's not that kind of barn--be sure to make a reservation ahead of time. It will get extremely busy. And for good reason!! Walked in, hostess was extremely rude with her dirty looks and walked us to our table looking miserable. Asked a server if we could move to a booth, and they went to go get the hostess and she rudely rolled her eyes at us and put us in a booth. Extremely rude staff that we left, even when we were leaving the hostess gave us a dirty look. Wouldn't even be pleasant enough to enjoy a meal. read more

Happy Hour food was exceptional so we cant wait to eat dinner next time. Service was great, atmosphere lively. The ONLY reason I wont give Excellent is because the bar area is definitely NOT Handicap accessible! I needed help getting seated and getting down. Being newly handicapped, I am in tuned with these difficulties. God-forbid you use a wheelchair because that ain't happening! My husband and I were very excited to try this restaurant's farm-to-table brunch menu. Unfortunately we were highly disappointed. Upon entering the restaurant we allowed a couple to go ahead of us. The couple was promptly seated. The restaurant was nearly empty and it took the staff several minutes to even greet us let alone seat us. Still excited, we let it go. We were seated outside (upon our request) where there were a number of bees and flies. I didn't hold that against the restaurant; bees and flies can be hard to control with outdoor seating. But had we been approached at all, we may have opted to take a table inside as it became increasingly humid and harder to ward off the flies and bees. And maybe being in their line of sight, we may have received better service. Again, it took several minutes before we were greeted and offered drinks. We watched as the couple seated near us ordered and received their food and several more drinks...as our ice melted in our waters. After several minutes of waiting our server took our order. After 35 MORE minutes of waiting our server approached us to say he had forgotten to place our order and that our appetizer-lettuce wraps -didn't take too long to make so it'd be out shortly. We waited another HALF-AN-HOUR for the lettuce wraps. JUST the lousy lettuce wraps!! Not even the rest of the order. Totaling over an hour of waiting before seeing ANY food. When all ingredients are made fresh, my husband and I expect SOME waiting but this was excessive. We were never offered to have our beverages replenished or even so much as an sincere apology. When the food finally DID arrive, the potatoes were undercooked. Almost inedible. The food was also terribly under-seasoned. By this time we were quite hungry and ate the bland food since our server was so scarce that we couldn't ask for salt & pepper. Wow, what a pain this place is. Do they even want customers? Tried to plan a special evening here. Went online to make reservations - I get an error message stating The Barn did not have their reservation system connected. So then I called them (during normal business hours, on a weekday and not dinner time) and they don't even pick up their phone. A voicemail says they only take reservations online. So I go back online and I get another error message. I try again the next day and it is requiring me to open an OpenTable account to make this reservation. I have no interest in doing that. I called Grant's in West Hartford and guess what? 1) They picked up the phone during their normal business hours, and 2) They were happy to make a reservation for me over the phone. Horrible experience just to get in the door! What happens if I actually dine here - do they even have service staff, or do I need to do everything myself through my iPhone? read more
