You might call me a regular. Regular golfer & diner where I come here with my wife. The food is good pub food. The wings are very good. The last time there I got a 1/2 burger - oh my it was good. When I go there with my wife, we tend to split a full salad & Philly steak sandwich. The sandwich is great and the bread is very good. Then there's the staff. A big shout out to Lynn & the manager Jasmine. They're great. Sometimes they get a big rush. Deal with it. Help them. I do. Lastly is the location. This place is a gem. The building is an historic brownstone which I believe was built in the 1920's and refurbished back when they redid the course. The deck is great. On a nice warm evening this is one of my go to dinner spots. Seating is normally not an issue. Just call before you go. Sometimes they have outings and seating/serve may be limited. read more

I came here for a happy hour on Friday evening after reading their winter menu. The weather was great and the bar and patio were filled. We were able to get a seat outside and enjoy the sunshine. The drink specials were great and well priced. There was also a lot of food options. The sliders were amazing and the happy hour steak dinner was fantastic! Perfectly cooked with good sides. About six months ago I started seeing very complimentary Yelp reviews piling up for the Tavern at Keney Park. Accordingly, I put it on my radar to try, and a recent Groupon offering clinched the deal -we were there for lunch on Saturday. It was a terrific lunch on so many levels, and we left quite impressed and are already talking about going back to take advantage of their almost daily specials. Check these babies out- Wednesday is burger (1/2 pounder) and a beer for $8.99. Taco Thursday has two buck tacos, $2 Landsharks, $3 Coronas and $4 margaritas, Fried Fish Fridays will get you a big dinner of fried fish (or clam strips or Crab cakes) plus fries, slaw and tartar sauce. Saturday steak dinners are $14.99, Sunday Brunch features $4 Bloodys or Mimosas or Black and Tans. Plus they have Prime Rib and lobster specials too. Our lunch was a Tavern Burger ($10) with chips, a cup of Chicken Rice soup ($4), and a Kitchen Sink Salad ($9). The food was excellent! The burger was huge and delicious and it came with what looked like a bucketful of homemade chips. The soup was chockfull of shredded chicken, vegetables, and rice in a really good broth (no watered down soup here). The Kitchen Sink salad was a great dish- a good portion of shredded lettuce with chickpeas, plum tomatoes, cucumbers, jack cheese, tortilla strips, and a light balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The building interior has been totally renovated and looks great -the exposed roof rafters look like they were painted yesterday. The brickwork and exposed HVAC ducts give the place a nice homey vibe. There is a private room (60 max) on your left that was full with a baby shower and our server said it was booked for a second event later in the day. In the warm weather there is all sorts of outdoors seating options and tents available for big parties. Overlooking the golf course, these must be stunning venues. Carlos, our server, was the picture of Continental class and excellence. He was efficient, courteous and very informative. I've been 3 times so far and each has been such a pleasure. Twice I've come for their unlimited prime rib on Saturday nights for $19.99 in November, (though the price is going up to $24.99 for the future). I love how ducked off and tucked away this place is. Literally on the golf course and it has such an exclusive feel to it. Only those "in the know", will be here. Lol. The inside is cozy & homey with its vaulted ceiling, wood paneling, and big swivel chairs in front of a brick fireplace. The staff makes you feel like family, so much that I know most of their names. Ha. So on Saturday nights after 4:00pm you can order from their traditional menu or you can opt for their unlimited prime rib option. In their back dining room they have a small buffet setup consisting of mashed potatoes, a vegetable medley, 2 kinds of salad, toppings, macaroni & cheese, rolls, au jus as well as a horseradish sauce for the meat and the prime rib is out on a wooden slab with a staff member there cutting your slices according to how done you want it. So delicious. Better than some Golden Corral type of stuff. Definitely make your way out here on a Saturday night and stuff yourself as much as possible, I've done it twice in 1 month. We can't forget the $15.00 bottle of wine they offer too! They offer a similar deal on Friday nights, $19.99 for unlimited shrimp. Wednesdays are "Happy Hour Day" all day along with trivia night! $2.00 glasses of wine, $3.00 glasses of sangria and various other specials. My favorite though, $12.00 unlimited wings and nachos. That's right. Both are unlimited. You can choose from 1 of 5 flavors of wings and the nachos are actually really thick potato chips covered with lettuce, cheese and tomatoes. I opted out of those. All wings for me please! I really enjoyed them. The flavors are really simple and the fact that they're unlimited makes them even better! What if I had only been here for the all you can eat prime rib on Saturdays (which started in November, and we went twice for it in November; there would've likely been a third time if it weren't for an abundance of Thanksgiving leftovers in the fridge the last Saturday of the month)? It would be 5 stars all the way! But, I've had other experiences here, none bad, but unfortunately not all of the food is worthy of that 5th star, IMO. But hey, 4 stars is still really great and I am a regular here! And, in true confessions fashion, I suppose I should admit all of the other food I'm referring to is from the happy hour/specials menus. To be fair, I do have to say the management is awesome! If anything isn't right and Amanda and/or Ashley are aware of it, they'll absolutely fix it for you and make sure you're satisfied. My first experience was on a beautiful day in October for happy hour, so we were able to sit on the great patio on the edge of the golf course. It was relaxing and gorgeous out. I was afraid service would be slow and that they'd forget about us out there, but that definitely was not the case. I tried two of the happy hour drinks and was glad they weren't watered down. One didn't taste great, but hey, that can happen when you try something new. I also had the Frito Nachos (small plate of nachos but with Fritos instead of tortilla chips) and they were ok. I ate them all, but I'm not likely to order them again. It seemed like $5 worth and was just something to munch on during happy hour with drinks. My friend had the empanadas, and felt the same way about them. During Taco Thursday on another visit, they had a $3 veggie quesadilla. This was a good deal and tasted good, but when I asked for salsa, I was told they don't have any. How do you have a taco day, fajitas and quesadillas regularly on your menu and not carry salsa? They did offer sour cream, but I prefer my calories from drinks and dessert. They have pico de gallo which could be a salsa substitute, but if you don't love raw onions (like me), then there's only so much of the stuff you can take. With salsa for dipping, these quesadillas would have been amazing! We've also done the all you can eat wings and nachos for $12 on Wednesday evenings, and it's a good deal, but I tried one nacho and would never order these. Please, bring on the wings for $12! The nachos are made on potato chips. I prefer tortilla chips and don't want nachos any other way. It's a classic appetizer, tried and true, and potato chips isn't an improvement on an already good thing. But what you must try here is the all you can eat prime rib! In November, we went for the first night and knew as soon as we got our first plate that $19.99 was such a deal! Everything from the salads to the cooked veggies to the mashed potato bar and prime rib was delicious! I was half expecting boxed potatoes and frozen veggies and ice berg lettuce in the salad for this price, but there was absolutely nothing like that! Everything was delicious and I'll gladly go back for this again even though they (rightfully) increased the price to $24.99 for this Saturday night special in December. It's so worth it. And to top it all off, they offer red and white bottles for only $15 during the prime rib special! It's not the same bottle every week so you never know what it'll be, but for $15 you can't be too picky (and none have been awful). read more

After a quick review of restaurants close to Bradley Intl, on trip back to LA, found the Tavern. We were quite happy with the food and the service, and on a beautiful fall afternoon, it was perfect outside. The wood paneling and pane windows created a cozy feeling, a full bar is available. 4pm on a Friday, was quiet, but quickly filled with golfers coming off the greens . The food is simple - but generously portioned - the crispy Brussel sprouts were excellent, as were the sweet potato fries. Great place, good find! read more

We decided try the Sunday brunch at the Tavern which we had visited previously for an adult beverage after a round of golf at Keney Park. Considering the financial difficulties of the city of Hartford it is amazing how the rehabilitation of the golf course and restaurant facility came together to create a fabulous venue. The restaurant has a very nice dining room/bar area including a large working fireplace and, of course, outdoor seating areas with views of the course. The food was very good and the waitstaff were exceptionally nice. A great place for our brunch and certainly a place to try for lunch or dinner. They plan to be open even when the golf course is closed. read more

A beautiful day in the neighborhood... sat on the terrace under a red umbrella and shared a lunch with two lovely ladies. One chose the Par Three dog with sweet potato fries and the other the Kitchen Sink salad with grilled chicken. I had the Strawberry and Beet salad with a delectable dressing which I thought was a bit scanty. It turned out to be the perfect amount and the perfect taste to meld these two unlikely foods together. Based on my last review, I'm surprised I even came back to this place. I had no idea this is where my colleagues wanted to have lunch as I didn't drive there and spent my time on my phone versus watching where we were driving to. We ended up here and I sighed immensely. I was hoping for the best but wasn't expecting much if anything at all from them. I was pleased to see the waitress was extremely warm and tended to us quickly, granted it was pretty empty in there. I got the tuna melt and added a fried egg and avocado to it which was $5 extra, so freaking ridiculous. I got onion rings as my side and they were quite good. Everything looked great as it was brought to our table. Sadly, both of our grilled breads were excessively greasy. My favorite part of my meal was my Brussel sprout salad "upgrade". ( meatless too! ) They have a list of items you can add to your meal they call "upgrades" such as French fries, sweet potato fries, Brussel sprout salad. Honestly for the price of the sandwich it should at least come with french fries and not just potato chips. My husband said his fries were soggy and he hardly ate them. I am disappointed because I was really looking forward to trying out this place. Perhaps we just hit it on a bad day? I wouldn't discourage you from trying this restaurant. You might have a completely different experience. That being said, I do want to go back in the warmer weather because they have plenty of outdoor seating and the view is probably beautiful that time of year. I can't say enough about this amazing find. When you turn in from the street it's a long and winding road with beautiful trees all around until you get to the parking lot with a very short walk to the restaurant. I sat on the outdoor patio overlooking the golf course. I tried the burger with homemade potato chips and a couple of cold Michelob ultra's. The waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable. This is a great spot to go on Wednesday nights for comedy night and Friday nights there is music. read more

Come here for a golf tournament and the golf "pro" was horrible with his customer service as we needed pre set scorecards and apparently he couldn't do his job in the morning before our 10:30am tee time that was pushed out because he kept pushing other players out. The breakfast sandwiches that cane with our tournament were HORRIBLE. Bread tasted frozen and was NOT toasted along with burnt eggs and barely any bacon. Overall the proshop has POOR customer service and the food is NOT that good. We had a "BBQ" after our tourney and there was NOTHING BBQ about what they claim to be BBQ. They are OVERRATED and need LOTS of customer service work along with food option to the PAYING customer!!! read more

What the heck happened here? Used to be my favorite spot for delicious prime rib....until last night. Was looking forward to the Wednesday night...$24.99 all you can eat dinner. So disappointed. First off...only 5 people were dining here during our entire meal. Weather was perfect..no excuses. Meat just didn't look the same as previous experiences. It was slightly undercooked but chewy! Very little flavor. The guy carving the meat seemed bored. The mac and cheese was quite cold(server heated up for us). I had to ask what the mashed potatoes were...didn't look like mashed potatoes. Neither side had much flavor. No one seemed in charge. Just not good. Servers were friendly enough but didn't make up for the totally lackluster experience. Parking is a little bit away from the restaurant. The restaurant had a bad kerosene smell coming from outdoor heater that was inside the enclosed adjacent room. Margaritas were inconsistent the second one was very yellow. We were told we couldn't sit in a certain section because a party was coming. It's 1.5 hrs later and we are done with our meal and nobody is here. Taco Thursday is very affordable. The tacos were average happy hr. Nothing Exciting here like Trumbull Kitchen. So glad I decided to try this place for Sunday brunch! We sat in the terrace area which had a fireplace, space heater and a great view. I had the Open-Faced Brisket 'n Eggs, Bloody Mary and the Good Morning Rita. The brisket was amazingly tender and so flavorful, eggs cooked to perfection and the potatoes were delicious, seasoned well and had the right amount of crisp while still being soft, yum!! A friend of mine and I went to #tavernatkeneypark today. When I got home I felt the urge to call the manager. Her name is Jasmine. I wanted to tell her about the belligerent man who yelled across my friend and I to his exiting buddy that he was "gonna take a piss and then meet him in the front". Her excuse for this foul behavior was that he had been drinking all day. My response to that was simple. " Do you know what that tells me? That it was the truth. He didn't feel like he had to use his manners with us two brown girls. While we are on the subject of not using your manners let's talk about the group of white 20somethings who came in" I proceeded to tell her about how loudly dragged the tables and chairs over the cobble stones. Making it very hard for my friend and I to talk. All the while speaking in a above normal volume. They were just all together obnoxious. They did this even though I learned during my conversation with Jasmine that they were asked not to do. While my friend went to the bathroom, the group was talking very loudly. They were discussing where they grew up. One of them stated that they were from Winsted or some town that starts with a "W" and is a rural place. To be honest with you I can't remember what she town she said because I was so put off by what the other person said in response. "That's my HOOOOOD!" In a deep howling sort of voice. We sat and finished our beverages, and did our best not to acknowledge their behavior. I let Jasmine know my distaste for the attempt at making me feel unwelcome is a park that is nestled in the heart of the city and has been historically occupied by Black people because hello!...Black people are who occupy the neighborhood it is in. I will not be made uncomfortable, nor will I be chased out by this kind of behavior. Jasmine asked me if there was anything she could do for me. I think she was expecting me to say that I wanted something free. What I told her is this. I will be back, and the next time I come here I would like to see a proudly displayed sign stating that racist behavior will not be tolerated, and if it is seen or heard you will be asked to leave. I've visited this establishment 2x now and both experiences were great. First time it was an all you can eat prime rib buffet and the second was an informal holiday party with work friends. The ambiance is welcoming, the staff friendly and both food and drink were perfectly priced! Half priced appetizers during happy hour (3-6) are an added bonus. Held baby shower there about two weeks ago. Hard to rate because The food, wait staff and manager Amanda were fine our problem was the large amount of flies all over the food. The open sided stone room was lovely but lended itself to allow several dozen flies to be all over the food buffet. Many guests wanted to go up for a second helping but turned away due to the flies. I'm sure since this is a busy venue they have had issues with flies. The wait staff kept trying to shoo them away. Perhaps covering the food with some type of food covering might alleviate this very disgusting problem. read more

Went for the Prime Rib buffet on Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised. The staff was very friendly, accommodating, and attentive. The Prime Rib needed to be a little more done for our taste and they were happy to bring it to the kitchen to finish it off. The salad and sides were also very good. Was really excited about checking The Tavern out for their live music night and was, unfortunately, very disappointed. The whole point of us going was for the live music and the restaurant recommended making a reservation, which we did. However, when we showed up we were told that we could only sit inside while they let other people with later reservations sit outside. On top of that, multiple items on the menu were not available and it was easier to ask the waitress what was available. What we were allowed to order was not even good. Don't understand the point of hosting events if you don't even let guests enjoy it or have enough food for them. read more

Came here for a late lunch on a Saturday and couldn't be happier with the service and quality of the food. My boyfriend and I shared the hot potato appetizer, I had the buffalo chicken sandwich and he had the macaroni and cheese. I have made three visits to this location and each time it was good food and great service. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. They make you feel at home and ensure your dining experience is the best. The atmosphere is cozy with a fire place in the main dining room and the indoor patio. Went to the Easter brunch. It was our first time. It's really meant to be the 19th hole in the golf course and I'm sure it probably satisfies golfers at the end of their rounds. As a fine dining establishment it misses the mark. Food was pretty close to awful. The raw bar was good and the made to order omelets were the highlight. All other permafrost food was tepid and tasteless . Salmon was hard as a rock . The prime rib carving station looked promising but you were given a thinly sliced piece of meat like roast beef at a deli. It was dry , tough and bland. There were no desserts. Consider yourself warned. The Bloody Mary's were delicious but unadorned. Won't be back read more

We were there for dinner tonight and were surprised some of the dishes made it out of the kitchen. Onion rings were burnt and we had to ask for a new order, three in our party ordered the chicken with waffles with on served with two pieces of chicken the size of a McDonalds nugget, and one guest asked for a salad without cucumbers, only to be served one with diced cukes in it. They did tell one in our party that the salmon was not up to their expectations today and made suggestions on a new entree so while we were impressed with their honesty, the meal that followed was disappointing. We were served a tray of ice cream treats on the house, a nice jester which we appreciated, and yes, we will give it a second try but not in the near future. read more

I generously am giving this restaurant a 2 because I have had a great experience here in the past. My most recent visit however makes me question if I will return. We ordered two burgers off the menu and added on a wrap about 10 minutes after for another guest. The wrap and my burger came out initially. The waitress was confused and cancelled one of the orders. My burger was requested to be pink and was heavily overcooked and room temperature. The waitress took it to the kitchen and when it came back to me, the cook was no better but this time my onion rings were also noticeably burnt as they must've just reheated them. After finishing we gave our Groupon voucher and requested the check, which had no accommodations for the terrible food and service. The woman who looked like the manager came over while we waited for them to take the card and actually forgot to add the wrap onto the bill. She still charged it, instead of taking the cut for her mistake. read more

Popped over here for lunch with a colleague the other day. As a huge fan of Dish and Sorella downtown, I felt it was my duty to check it out!! We weren't overly hungry, so we did apps: The Notorious P.I.G. (a fun send-up on poutine but with pulled pork and - wait for it - bacon) was addictive; I'd have loved just a little more cheese hidden under that delicious herb-y gravy, but my colleague was smitten with it as it was, so score a big (or should I say, PIG) hit there. We also shared the Avocado Lettuce Wraps (because we felt like we'd need a healthy counterpoint to the P.I.G.) and enjoyed those, too. We sat at the bar because it was just too sticky and gross to sit outside, but man, I can't wait to come back to enjoy the patio(s), more of the food, and especially some of those cocktails, which sound really fun.
