I still stand by my rating for the previous brunch review. This review is specific to take out for dinner. I am still hesitant about eating in a restaurant so we decided to get take out from @ the barn for our anniversary dinner and specifically here because their brunch was so amazing. However, this did not live up to my last experience. We ordered their Pork Belly, Paella, and a Creme Brulee. The Pork Belly had good flavor but was not a balanced cut and had a big piece of just fat. The Paella had a good mixture of quality seafood and was overall good, but not the best we've had in the area. The Creme Brulee turned into a delicious sweet soup, which we should have anticipated that and it would be very difficult to prevent it from melting, but perhaps it could've been packaged in a different container that's spill proof? Certainly there are challenges with shifting to take out, so I probably will come back again for in person dining, and especially will be back for brunch. read more

When you enter, you step into the seeming chaos at the reception desk. A large group of teens running around frantically. Unfortunately they must have poor ventilation in the kitchens as the smell was overwhelming. Mixture of grilled beef fat and fish. Its always a tough go when you walk out of a restaurant and can still smell the place on your clothing. We were seated in very high back vinyl booths. Somewhat isolating, which is ok... but im not a booth lover. Food: average. I went with the grain bowl. Ingredients sounded great. Came with refrigerated rice. Sprouts, maybe 1oz of kimchi a few veggies and a hard boiled egg. In a plate. Not a bowl. I guess i was expecting and actual rice bow with a fried egg on top. Burger was decent. Bun was a little burnt on the inside. Fries were dark on the outside and mushy in the inside. Beer. $10 a can. IIPA that was dated 11 months. Im not here to bash the place. It was average. Not bad. Clean up the menu, figure out the ventilation and rotate the beer stock and it would get much better. read more

Very expensive for the quality of the food offered. So far I have tried at least 7 different dishes. Not very flavorful. Fries are always soggy. Fish was decent, but for the price of the salmon, or halibut, or crab, or shrimp, one should expect a very flavorful, juicy, tender piece of fish. They were not. And the chef is not very creative with sauces, especially if the fish is sautéed, which I have not seen any sautéed fish dish on the menu. Outdoor dining is great, and the service is good. I realize a restaurant has many valid cost issues that have increased with inflation, they just have to get better quality food for those prices they charge. read more

Today was my second time visiting the Barn on my trip to CT. Highly recommend going on Wed for half-price wine bottles! Our server, Ryan, was super knowledgeable about food and wine - we were so lucky to get him both times! Trout Niçoise salad is phenomenal; my mom said Chef's burger was the best burger she's had in her life. Pork belly app with corn cakes and blueberry jam DELICIOUS! We had yummy cocktails and greaaaaat wine. And oysters! They don't feature them on the lunch menu but you can order them! Fabulous Wellfleet oysters- tis the season to get your zinc on!!! The Barn is definitely worth the trip to Granby. I don't usually post my hidden gems but this one's for you Ryan! New CT fave for sure. read more

I love this restaurant. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere is great. our waitress was also very friendly and attentive. I have not yet tried their brunch but plan to do so in the near future. Just wrapped up a hanger steak for lunch and it was cooked to perfection with great flavor. Don't forget to try the pork belly appetizer as well!!! read more

I was looking forward to a nice late lunch this afternoon. I had visited this restaurant over the summer and found it to be wonderful. Good food. Great outdoor seating atmosphere. Friendly, knowledge server. Today was an entirely different experience. We were greeted at the door by a man who had zero affect. Immediately I felt uncomfortable. We were asked if we wanted outdoor or indoor seating. We chose indoor. We were led to a table that was quite dirty actually. There was food left on my chair and food all over the floor. Honestly, at that point I wanted to get up and leave. And I should have. We proceeded to order apps and entrees. Both courses took an excessive amount of time to come out for 3:45 in the afternoon. I ordered a chicken sandwich that was awful. All I could taste was the intense char flavor from the burnt bread. The rest of the sandwich wasn't pleasing either. We brought it to the waitress's attention. We politely explained that it just wasn't pleasant to eat at all. They took that entree off the bill which was a good thing. But honestly, I will not return. I felt uncomfortable and thought it was dirty. I didn't even use the bathroom while there. I just wanted to leave. read more

so I ordered a burger tonight for takeout medium, and when I got home the burger actually looked well done from the look It was Black but I took a bite and it was totally raw in the inside. Looked like freshly packaged beef. and so I cut it in half and there was a pool of blood coming out. Totally raw. I cooked it more myself but hopefully I dont get sick. Also the bread was soaked. My husband and I have frequented @ the barn often over the past few years. It was the first place we went to since restaurants could reopen for dining and we've been back 3 times since. The cocktails are GREAT and there are a wide variety of options on the menu, during a time when most restaurants are offering limited menus. My only concern is that in the past few visits, several of the dishes have been so salty I could not even eat them. The black and blue burger, which admittedly has a salted aioli, was one. The second was the chicken lettuce cups, and the third was the crab stuffing in the stuffed haddock. The chef must have a heavy hand with the salt shaker. The service is ok. Generally the waitresses have been friendly and attentive. However we did witness an exchange between the hostess and a server that was distressing. While escorting us to our table, the hostess indicated she had sat two of the server's tables, and the server swore from under her mask and rolled her eyes. I understand that working conditions are not pleasant for the servers, but the whole thing made me feel unwelcome and like a burden. If you want business, you have to at least act like you are happy to see us. In summary, my experience since the reopening has been mediocre and last night I was pretty disappointed. The next time my husband suggests going to the barn, I will probably suggest an alternative. read more

First time eating here. Had an awesome meal; both the Mrs and me. Cocktails were good, but meals really impressed me, especially after reading some other reviews. I had the Grilled Chicken Breast (yeah sounds boring, but loved it!) with Truffle Honey, Crispy Brussels Sprouts, Butternut Noodles, Roasted Apples, and Dried Cranberries. It was awesome! It was served in a personal size skillet and the flavors all went together incredibly well. Wife had the Crab Stuffed Haddock. I was worried after reading the other reviews about the fish dishes lacking flavor, but she raved about it. Espresso martinis were very good as well and the place was hopping! Since The Barn merged with the Farmers Kitchen I have appreciated the changes in menu. It seems to be more vegetarian friendly and the breakfast/brunch menu is great! We will definitely be going more often now that there are more vegetarian options. The Greek quinoa bowl was delicious. I'd highly recommend a peach Bellini if you're going for breakfast or brunch they are delicious. Their Bloody Mary is also good. read more

Sunday brunch, had a warm latte and a Mexican omelet with chorizo... that was not chorizo, it was like a kielbasa. Just because you put a like pico de Gallo on top of it, the omelet does not make it a Mexican omelet. The service was not great either... give you a semi cold coffee no sugar and spoon. Met some friends here. The service was subpar, the menu had some decent looking items but the prices were pretty up there for what you were getting. My 9$ mojito was pretty much ice with hardly any rum at all. The meal was an issue. I got the penne with sausage and spinach. The plate size was small which would be find except there was hardly any spinach or sausage. Therefore I paid around 20$ for a small plate of penne with a few pieces of sausage. We went on a Wednesday night and it was very busy there. So either people like it because they think its trendy or they just have nowhere else to go. read more

Was very busy and it was difficult to conduct a conversation with the person across the table. I recently had stomach surgery and asked for gravy to put on my very dry chicken. Waitress brought salsa and sour cream. I told her I couldn't eat this and asked her again for gravy. She told me she would bring brown gravy. She finally did, after most of our table had finished their meal, and it was sweet gravy. After she returned to collect the plates, I asked her what type it was and she said that they added truffles and honey. Since I can't have sugar after my surgery, I stopped eating it. Needless to say, I was up sick all night after eating this "brown gravy". I don't know why the waitress just didn't bring me what I wanted. I have to say, sometimes, ambiance, friendly service, and a huge menu selection, seems to compensate even for a few disappointing food choices. That said, our ladies lunch birthday celebration was a success, mostly because on this Friday in early October, we were treated like royalty, served with extremely cordial and competent attitude, and the manager made this a seamless celebratory experience. One birthday lady thought her fish and chips were the best she had ever had. The rest of us had other things. The grilled salmon with strawberry salsa really didn't have that strawberry wow we were hoping for. The strawberries were there, but not really much of a topping. And the griddle brie sandwich with figs and arugula also lacked the pizazz we thought we would. Nothing really bad. It was kind of bland. Just not great. Finally went to the hostess...oh I guess the waitress was a no show tonight. Shouldn't the hostess have known that?! Shouldn't the water boy notice there's no waitress?! Okay finally another waitress took over. Felt bad for her because obviously she had a full load. The shrimp cocktail were huge shrimps (oxymoron). Flank steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. We discovered At the Barn while trying to find somewhere "nice" to take my dad out for his birthday. It's hidden away in Granby, so unless you know it's there, you will never find it. But I suggest you search out for it. You'll be glad you did. I had the Shrimp a la Plancha. It was grilled shrimp on corn risotto (delicious - I wanted to lick the bowl, but somehow I remembered my manners). My husband had the Paella and did not save me a single bite! My mom loved her Pan Seared Sea Scallops. They were prepared with a sour pineapple reduction and came with black bean tasso mash and jicama slaw. My son got the Grilled Salmon, and since he likes his food as plain as plain can be, he got the strawberry salsa that came with it on the side. It has been about two weeks since my dad's birthday, but he still calls to thank me for the best birthday dinner he's ever had. We've only gone for brunch so far but the food was great! We had waffle skins which were chicken, bacon, scallions on a waffle with a sriracha sauce. Yum. I had the scrambler for my main entree which was so delicious! The patio was shady enough and it wasn't too mobbed where we didn't feel rushed. Usually the food here has been decent, but very overpriced. Its close to me, so I decided to go for some happy hour food. Now one thing I'd like to say first is the bartenders are great and Im sorry for the small tip, but let me explain why I was pissed! At the kitchen staff. We ordered, steamers $8 which were ok, but pretty flavorless, buttermilk tossed chicken breasts (which came for $6 with only 3 tiny pieces barely bigger than a chicken nugget), wings $6 for 6 which were ok. But I was still starving because the portions were incredibly meager, so I ordered the steak kebabs, and thats where my issue was; yes they were only $6 but they were literally pieces of meat flavored gum on a stick, literally had to spit it all back out, it could not be chewed. Absolutely disgusting. My and my fellow diner had two drinks each, totaling 4. Three were $6, one was $4. Anyway the bill came out to be over $50 In retrospect for $50 I couldve had an amazing dinner for two at somewhere like Abigails. But instead I got 6 wings, 3 tiny nuggets, a few steamers, inedible steak kebabs, and 2 drinks per person. For $50...I could have been 10x as full and satisfied if I had just gone to Mcladdens or Plan B. Just dont waste your time paying for overpriced tiny portions of food here. Not nice read more

I met a friend here for an early dinner. The bar was full, and there was some live music in the dining room. Our waitress was a nice but not very knowledgable about beers or her explanation of meat temperature/cook. Not major offenses but definitely stood out. Food was ok. Of the 3 items we got, the shish kebab was tastiest and had prettiest presentation. The flatbread had a very mediocre crust and could have used more salt. The scallops were also nicely arranged but had too much pepper - or some flavor that masked the awesomeness of a scallop. Had lunch there on a Monday. Everything was great. Had the rice bowl was super delicious.

I discovered this place through a friend of mine, so I went on a little date night, we went during the weekday so it wasn't as packed, but it felt very comfortable the staff was so nice. The turtle cheesecake is absolutely delicious if you have a big sweet tooth like I do it's the perfect amount of chocolate and caramel (my date doesn't like caramel as much as I do) so it worked for both of us. I also had their barn margarita and it was delicious and made well! Will definitely be coming back! read more
