We were becoming regulars at the Bat & Ball, but we won't be ordering again. The food has become inconsistent and awful, I'm sorry to say. We have been wanting to try the bistro filet bites, but what we received was rancid. The meat was cooked, but it had a smell that I noticed only after biting into one, chewing, and immediately spitting it out. It was unbelievably foul-tasting and the worst meat I have ever put in my mouth, which was concerning. We were given a buffalo chicken flatbread that was swimming in so much hot sauce that we had to wipe some off the top to see, let alone, taste, what was underneath. All we did taste was straight up hot sauce. The Shepherd's Pie was a favorite, but the latest entree was largely cauliflower and broccoli with no green beans and no pan sauce. The vegetables are usually amazing and exactly what is pictured on the menu with green beans -- no broccoli or cauliflower in sight. Still 4 stars, but I have been going more often since the Rightous Room closed. The neighborhood regulars from Rightous Room have relocated to The Bat just a few doors down. My first time in since 2017 was a little spotty, but they have seemed to step up their game with some very good bartenders now, Hailey and Allie. Cheese curds are great! Overall the food is good. I really like the Buffalo Chicken sandwich. Myself and several others wish they would change the layout a little to create more space as it can get tight. Solid TVs for watching sports. Hubby and I were out and about celebrating a great review from my doctor. I had a coupon to this place off of Groupon. The location wasn't that hard to find as the Costco down the street is the one we frequent most often. But back to the review. It's in a strip mall so may be a little difficult to find. But thanks to GPS. We both ordered the fish and chips. You got two decent pieces of fish. Not to sure if it was a frozen battered fish, but it was pretty good. Let me say, I hate steak fries. She magically appeared again, this time even more friendly than the first asked what we would like and we ended up ordering a fish & chips since it was famous and it came with fries and ordered another order of fries. They were steak fries, I'm never a fan of steak fries because some times they can get soggy or chewy if left to stand for a period of time. So I'm very particular about my fries. I came here for the first time for dinner. I was extremely hunger. I ordered the lobster grilled cheese sandwich and side salad. The lobster sandwich was good other than the cream cheese inside of it. I think it would of tasted better without it and also be less fattening. The side salad was decent with the balsamic vingerette dressing. I also shared an appetizer(egg rolls) with my friend. I was still hungry after my meal. No idea how this place has 4 stars. I ordered the Shepard's pie to-go, took 3 bites and threw it away. If you look up "Shepard's pie recipe" every single recipe has the meat, veggies and mashed potatoes all in one pie. This place has meat and mash potatoes on top with a side of steamed frozen veggies that felt like rubber. The potatoes taste like instant potatoes and were insanely salty. The Bat & Ball Pub is an English-style pub located in a dinky strip mall in North Brookhaven. The pub is one of several restaurants squeezed into a building next to Walgreens. The pub is named "Bat & Ball" after the sport of cricket, not baseball. This is a neighborhood bar, popular with locals. It's small and cozy. When it gets busy, prepare to mingle. The interior resembles that of a traditional British pub, complete with an old-fashioned wooden bar and funiture and ornate, almost antique-looking light fixtures, of which there are a few different varieties. Signs point to where "the loo" and "the car park" are. Aside from the bar, seating consists of round high-top tables and cushioned booths with convenient coat hooks. Since I don't really drink, this review is based mainly on food. The Bat & Ball serves several authentic UK and Irish dishes. Appetizers and entrees are priced similarly, anywhere from roughly $10-15 each. They have some unique dishes such as a ploughman's lunch (Scotch egg, cheddar, pickled veggies, mustard, bread) and typical fare like fish and chips, meatloaf, bangers and mash (sausages and mashed potatoes), and shepherd's pie. I've tried several of Bat & Ball's dishes and generally think their take on the English and Irish dishes are better than that of several bars and pubs in the Atlanta area that serve the same items (e.g. Meehan's, Ri Ra). It just tastes better. Here are the items I've tried: * Tavern wings (lemon pepper and medium spicy flavors) * Irish spring rolls - stuffed with corned beef, Swiss cheese & cabbage, lightly fried & served with thousand island dipping sauce * Kielbasa - lightly fried Polish sausage served with Sriracha mayo * Highland Scotch eggs & sausage rolls - traditional British fare served with Guinness grain mustard * Cornish pasties - four pasties (pastries) filled with seasoned beef and veggies with spicy mustard and a shot of Guinness * Chip shoppe - a flower pot of fries with a choice of 2 sauces * Shepherd's pie - New Zealand lamb slowly braised with carrots, onion, garlic, and rosemary, topped with golden brown mashed potatoes The wings are quite tasty. Meaty too. The lemon pepper sauce is very buttery. The wings on the bottom of the plate may be sitting in a small puddle of butter. The Irish spring rolls are just that - Asian-style, deep-fried, crispy spring rolls filled with Irish ingredients like corned beef and cabbage. Not a bad snack. I don't recommend the kielbasa. It's too salty. The sausage is cut into several bite-size pieces and is also served with some raw veggies like carrots and celery. If you want some "wow" factor, the Highland Scotch eggs & sausage rolls and the Cornish pasties are two dishes to get. They, along with the kielbasa, are nicely presented directly on slate tiles. Highland Scotch eggs are eggs that have been hard-boiled, wrapped in sausage, then coated in bread crumbs and baked or fried. They're fried here. One Scotch egg is quite big and filling. Four sausage rolls are served with. The sausage is contained in a buttery, flaky, pastry. The grain mustard is icing on the proverbial cake. The Cornish pasties ("PAH-stees") are somewhat similar to the aforementioned sausage rolls in that the breading is nice and flaky. The pasties have been described to me as British empanadas and I think that is a pretty fitting description. They are very good and quite possibly the best dish I've had here. Speaking of best dishes, the fries are some of the best I've had. Strange, but true. I usually never give too much thought to fries, but the ones served here are outstanding. They are British-style fries, or "chips" I should say. Thick and a little crisp. I like them with a bit of salt and malt vinegar. No additional condiment/sauce necessary. They are appetizing and addicting. The flower pot presentation is funny and interesting. The shepherd's pie is excellent and, like the fries, is one of the better shepherd's pies I've tried. It's English comfort food at its best. Simply hearty and filling. There's a mushy consistency, but it's all-around flavorful and I like the delicate mashed potato crust on top. Service is good. Despite the limited space, the pub still handles groups well. There are several TVs often playing sports. You can usually request a channel change to your favorite sport or team on a particular TV if no other table is watching that display. In summary, I normally don't get cravings for British pub food, but the Bat & Ball Pub is a rare exception. read more

We used to love coming to this place. They had cool old newspaper menu, excellent food, and a great pub vibe. The food was really good until management changed. I tried the fish and chips a few months and it wasn't good. The fry on the fish was with oil that was burnt and the fries weren't even good. The Bat and the Ball used to have amazing food and chefs. They had the best wings, nachos, shepherds pie, and fish and chips around but we won't be going back to eat here again until things change and hopefully they will improve. It's still a decent place to grab a beer. I wish there was some quality control. They need Gordon Ramsey's restaurant rescue. I'd love to support this place again! read more

Bat & Ball Pub is a quaint little British pub in Brookhaven, located amid a strip of other diverse restaurants, which include Indian, Japanese, Mediterranean, and American. We decided on the pub because one, it had been a LONG week and two, because it had been a LONG week. Beers sounded deliciously inviting. Inside, you do get that pub feel. Dim, a little white noise, and people sitting around watching sports on the TV's. Our bubbly server didn't seem to fit in, but she took our orders, recommended food, and rattled off what beers were on draft. Not necessarily in that order. The beers on draft were VERY disappointing. I had trouble deciding, even after asking her to list them out for me twice. I ended up with a beer mix: Harp and some cider to make for a tasty Snake Bite. I was just hoping to try a new beer, but this pub is no Taco Mac. We ordered three appetizers for $27.95 (online menu doesn't seem up to date on prices), which actually was a bit overboard for two people to share. We got the Highland Platter, Nachos and the Irish Spring Rolls. The Highland Platter comes with two Scotch Eggs (halved), eight sausage rolls and four Cornish pasties. Very delicious, overall. I wasn't a huge fan of the pickled veggies in the middle, so I stuck to an egg, a couple pasties and a few of the bite size sausage rolls. The Scotch Egg was a pleasant surprise: I thought it was just going to be a deep fried egg, which while it was essentially just that, had a layer of what I think was some sort of sausage. Tasty. The Cornish pasties reminded us of Asian curry puffs, with the ingredients used in the pastie, sans curry. This was definitely was probably my favorite appetizer. The Grande Nachos were just ok. The chicken atop the nachos were cardboard dry. The flavor of whatever cheese they used was terrific. Irish Spring Rolls were the bomb. With the faint resemblance to Chinese egg rolls, the cabbage and the deep fried skin were the only similarities, as these fried spring rolls were tasty enough to not have to compare the two. I was slightly disappointed that the menu here was nearly identical (if not a 100% match) to the menu at Royal Oak Pub, another Dunwoody Restaurant Group pub, located at Perimeter Pointe. I've ordered in house here before and it was mediocre - nothing to write about good or bad. It's what you expect when you expect bland fried bar food. But tonight I got take out wings, and i swear they forgot to empty the fryer before they put them in the to go box. Literally wings drenched in a puddle of oil. I've been coming to this establishment since I moved to Brookhaven formerly Chamblee. Ever since the recent turnover of management, it's become increasingly difficult to discern whether the staff have mental problems, or if they're drunk all the time. I've had extreme troubles having orders taken from multiple staff members, as it seems they like to hang out and drink in the section next to the dart boards instead of servicing their patrons. I would understand if there were high profile clients back there, however, I find it hard to believe that's the case. It also seems that when you ask for a drink it's a huge inconvenience that employees have to do their job. I don't want to call specific employees out, however, with certainty I can say it's not just one individual. Often times recently, when I've entered this establishment; it smells like wet dog and fritos. I'm not sure if this is emanating from the kitchen, or if the night shift just doesn't clean up after themselves. I regret to say, that I will no longer be present at this location as the service is less than adequate and I don't like the smell of dead fish and corn chips. read more

I loved this place! The atmosphere is right up our alley with complete neighborhood pub feel. We felt like we were regulars by the time we left, and it was our first time going! Pretty straight forward when it comes to drinks, they have a full bar. However, what makes the bar is the bartender LaShawna (spelling??). She was fun to speak with and knew her drinks. One of the other customers, a regular who lives down the street, said she makes the best Bloody Mary's you will ever have. When she told us she uses Zing Zang as the base, we started to drool....mmmm!! After a couple drinks we got a little bit hungry, so on came the nachos! DELICIOUS! I mean, it's a bar, with bar food, but they were so yummy! (yes, I was tipsy, but they would be yummy either way!) They definitely hit the spot that day. We had been hopping around a few bars in Decatur before seeing this on the way home on the side of the road. Something just told us to stop in, and we are definitely glad we did! An attractive, cozy English style pub smack dab in the middle of a tired strip center on Johnson Ferry Rd. It has a nice vibe to it, a break from the traffic just a few feet away. Good selection of beer on tap and in bottles. They have a surprisingly good black bean burger. I will admit that ordering a black bean burger with Pico de Gallo and Chipotle ranch in a English pub sounds as weird to me as it might to you, but it worked! The only let down were the salt and vinegar potato chips. They were "meh" at best, with varying degrees of sogginess and oiliness. I am sure it is a matter of what batch you get, and i got the short end of the stick this time. Prices here are a little too high to make me a regular, lunch for two is about $30 conservatively, and there are too many other place to spend those shillings. read more
