Just got back from our anniversary trip and had four nights booked at the Bay Resort. Upon arrival the place looked a bit vintage beach motel but we didnt mind as we were just happy to be in Dewey! The front desk staff was great and very nice to us. They were very helpful when we decided to stay an additional night and had no problem accommodating us and allowing us to stay in the same room on our additional night. Housekeeping didnt get this note to say we were staying an extra day and the woman was very confused as to why we were still there. No big deal at all though. The rooms and decor could use some updating, the appliances are very old as well Its absolutely amazing out back along the bay. The prices were good and we had a great stay. read more

My girlfriend and I were in town for a concert at Bottle & Cork. We chose this hotel because it's a very short walk to the venue. When we arrived, we were greeted by Aryan, who was a complete delight. She was very warm and welcoming and even a little funny. She had us laughing and we felt like she really cared that we had a safe and fun stay. We paid extra for a balcony king bed facing the bay. The balcony view was perfect for having a few drinks before the show. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. Parking is an extra $15 in their lot per night that you can pay with your reservation or when you arrive. You really can't beat the location - a short walk to the venue, many bars/restaurants, coffee shop, convenience store and the beach of course!! read more

This hotel is more of a motel, but it offers several benefits: it's within easy walking distance of many restaurants and shops, it's two blocks away from the beach, it backs up to the bay (you can kayak right behind the property), the staff are super friendly, and the rates are affordable. Now for some downsides: the property is 80-years-old, the word "resort" is generous when applied to this fairly basic facility, and the parking is kind of tight. All in all, you could do much worse. To be perfectly candid, I would give this place 3.5 stars. But what the hotel lacks in refinement, it makes up for in customer service and location. read more

I really want to like this place, but they sure do make it hard. We made a reservation for a holiday weekend five months prior to our stay. 10 days before we arrived they called us to let us know that they would be closed on Sunday of our reservation. Therefore we would have to would have to check out the Sunday morning rather than have a three day stay. We were forced to scramble for a new place to stay. Because there are limited hotels in Dewey, we could not find a hotel for one night stay. Nor could we find an Airbnb for one night. Therefore, we had to cancel our reservation and book 3 nights via Airbnb. It was really hard for them to digest that it was a holiday weekend. They hadn't thought that through before they started canceling reservations. I was told it was an upper management decision. If that's the type of decisions upper management makes, I'd hate to hear about difficult decisions that they make. In retrospect, glad that our reservation was canceled. The Airbnb we have, although a little more expensive, is a lot nicer than a dive Hotel we always spent three nights at. After all of this, we got an email from them asking us to make sure we stay there with them the next time we visit Dewey. We are making an upper management decision to ensure that we never stay at Bay Resort. read more

The room was clean, quiet, spacious and comfortable but I have to agree with other reviewers that the decor is dated. (um.. box valance with flowers ?) Free coffee in the lobby. Free parking. Swimming pool and BBQ grill, chairs around fire pit, etc. Best service from RACHEL who helped us with the room reservation ! She was wonderful and I never got to meet her during our stay. So I booked room via multiple friends suggestions. This place is running on past experiences and not current conditions. Let's start with the staff. All nice. But I stayed the week before the 4th and I haven't met an employee that has worked her for longer than 2 weeks. Both times at front office the staff was on their first week. I have pool experience and mentioned that the pool water was below the tile and not going into skimmer. On day three with water not circulating. The interior of the rooms is run down. The carpet has stains and rips. The AC no matter what you set the air temp or fan to runs one temp and one speed. (We slept on top of the covers as it couldn't cool down). There is signs of mold and wetness. Stains on the countertop. Furniture is nicked and worn. The bathroom floor corners all have sand in them. The place just needs painted and new carpet/furniture. I was told the are rehabbing next year but for $2000 for a 6 nights, you aren't getting what you paid for. The kicker for me- if you want towels or housekeeping during your stay they charge you. We stayed in The Bay Resort in King Room # 958 with Bay View in 2021 on August 6-8. Very disappointed with cleanliness of this room. This King Room doesn't look like The King Room at all! Filfy, spotty furniture. Wax on a coffee table. Rust and mold on a ceiling. Rust and dirt under a bed. Furniture and and everything are very outdated. This room needs remodeling very badly. Location is great. You have the beach close by. The bay behind the hotel. There'l.were no kayaks like the hotel picture. There's a small pool but it's clean. I was kinda bummed that most rooms cater to family's. There were not many rooms with king beds. We had to stay on first floor. No balcony. Those were all family style rooms. I will say the room was a decent size. They even had a black makeup towel. Cute. Room was nice and clean but needed some serious updating. The color was brown. They gave us a fly squatter and we used it. We love how close everything was. Walked everywhere. We also took a trolly to Boardwalk. read more

Let me preface by saying this is not a hotel or a resort, but essentially a beachy motel with some amenities that elevate it past a Super 8, but not quite to the level of a Hampton Inn or the like. Regardless, it's charming, it's simple, it's rustic beach chic. You know what you're getting so don't go into this with high expectations and you'll be set. You need a place to lay your head after a too much wine at dinner, a shower after a day at the beach, and coffee in the morning to do it all over again. The Bay offers all of that, and more. Let me get the cons out of the way: that bed is as hard as a rock. I couldn't wait to return home just to get back to my own mattress. The room is also pretty outdated in its finishings and kitchen appliances, which is evident by the coil burner electric stove, the rusted metal shelving in the mini fridge, the scratched up/worn pots, pans and tableware, the older microwave model, the sconce on the patio that didn't work for us during our stay. It's clean, but in a "I'm cognizant of the wadded up tissue shoved into a random drop ceiling tile in the bathroom and I just won't look at it" way. Plus, there were like 10 resident flies in our room the whole time, most likely cause the sliding door to the patio is not screened so those suckers zoom into the room from the bay real fast whenever you open it. Additionally, we needed wheelchair access. Their website boasted an "ADA King" but didn't offer much detail or photos to help me gauge exactly what "ADA accessible" meant (I promise you, every establishment is loose with this definition). So after booking, I called thrice well in advance of our check-in date and spoke to 3 different staff members at the front desk to inquire about the shower/toilet situation and to ensure the room definitely had zero steps. None of them were able to answer my bathroom questions, except only to say "It is ADA compliant so it should be wheelchair accessible." I wasn't thrilled with that response but decided to risk it and check in a month later sight unseen. Thankfully, I see now they've updated their website to include some details about the shower (the accessible rooms either have a roll-in shower or grab bars in the tub. We had the latter). I included photos of the ADA Bayside King room for reference, as they would have been tremendously helpful to me. All this is to say it didn't make or break the vacation, but it's worth noting, especially since it was close to $800 for a three-night stay during peak Fourth of July season (we checked in after the holiday on the 5th). Regardless, we had zero setbacks with the wheelchair and it ended up being very comfortable and accessible-ish, as promised. We were on the first floor, there was plenty of space to navigate within the room, the bathroom had a roll-under sink, and the bathtub, towel racks, and mirrors were also lower. The grab bars behind the toilet (as opposed to on the sides) and the non roll-in shower came with some difficulty, but that's also on us for not wanting pack our commode/shower chairs. I am sure we could have asked to see if they had any of this, so that's on us. Just an FYI if you're considering what to pack. (Also, a lot of the kitchen equipment and cutlery was in the higher cabinets, so not super accessible either, and the threshold from the room to the patio was definitely a huge bump, so not a great transition in a chair.) Now onto the good stuff. The check-in process was smooth and I was even able to check in an hour and half earlier. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The coffee in the main reception area was a nice touch. The resort is central to anything and everything Dewey, with a liquor store and plenty of restaurants within walking distance. The view is unbeatable, we were right in the beautiful bay with a well-kept dock and grounds, plenty of adirondack and lounge chairs in a nice turquoise/orange color scheme. We spent so much time on that patio soaking in the sunlight and moonlight, drinking our coffee or wine. There's a sandy beach area, a gazebo with swings, and the option of kayaking and paddle boarding with a third party company. Plus, the pool area was very well kept and a nice relief when I didn't want to be on the grass with the many children running around (only problem with the first floor: no privacy from the adjacent guests). Our last day there, a Friday, seemed to be when the staff does major cleaning and rearranging the furniture for the new week of guests to arrive. Up until then, it does get pretty littery (I spotted some cigarette butts, soda cans, and general trash in the sand area but that's more of a problem guest issue than the hotel's). Overall, the sunsets and sea breeze and gentle waves of the bay made our stay worthwhile and its central location is unbeatable. read more

There is one thing that sticks out about this hotel and it's the thing that makes it automatically 4 stars and that's the location. Located only 2 short blocks from the beach and right on the bay. Literally 10-20 steps from the hotel and your in the bay. They have a awesome outdoor exclusive setup right on the bay which is perfect. The hotel itself is nothing special. My credit card co said I have to get a new credit card to keep them from continuing to charge against it ... infuriating! I don't even know what to do next to try to get my money back. Ownership changed and so does the service. It's a shame. Approach of 'no can do' is not what you should have in tourism. Prices are high for the dated, dirty rooms, but the once excellent front desk service and way better price per night use to make up for that. OK, a five star review for a 3 star hotel. Let me explain. This place is the place. Their rates are reasonable and competitive. The Staff could not be any better. Most of the rooms I believe are efficiencies. They are on the Bay, one block off the Coastal Highway and two blocks from the beach. Yes its an older hotel but well maintained and we have been choosing this place for years. Our most recent experience will tell you why. We arrived and it was 92* outside we checked in and although felt cooler than being outside, I thought it should be more comfortable being the A/C was set at 68* I just though it should be cooler. I made mentioned of it to the front desk and they said they would let the manager know. About 30 minutes later the manager came up checked the A/C and it said it was working properly. I told him even though the A/C appeared to be working I thought the room should be cooler and asked him what he thought. His answer. "It doesn't matter what I think, you are the customer and it matters what you think" WOW someone gets it. He told us he would get his temperature gauge and really check it. We left the room and went out for the afternoon. When we returned and opened the door, I was hit by a wall of cool air. Dan fixed it I said, then I looked across the room, he did not fix the A/C, he replaced it with a new unit. I can not say enough good things about this hotel. They make every customer feel important and take care of all their customers needs. Stay at this place with no worries. I give this place four stars for what it is-- a motel close to Dewey and Rehoboth beaches and cheaper than the Hyatt. My room was clean and adequate. The bathroom? Clean, adequate and stocked with basic amenities. Sure there's a kitchenette but it clearly dates the 80s or early 90s so I wouldn't bother with it. Who goes to the beach to cook their own meals anyway? There's a mini outdoor laundromat on all the floors, the machines are rusty but they looked clean and adequate for anyone who may want to use them. There's a pool and it looked pretty decent by the looks of the middle aged men lost in their frat boy days of old, causing a ruckus of horseplay. There's no elevator, par for the old school motel course. They said they're closing early to install one, so maybe check back next season. Overall no frills, in walking distance and faces the bay. 3.3.20 My fiance and I booked a stay online a few weeks ago through the Bay Resort's website for a weekend trip less than two weeks away. We are getting married in a month nearby and we had some last minutes things we needed to do, including getting our marriage certificate. I just received a call from Jill stating that they are in fact NOT OPENED and closed during the dates we already booked and put a deposit on. When I asked how we were able to book she couldn't give me an answer. She offered to save our deposit for our wedding date, which we have an entire house already booked and paid for. I mean the truth is I do not want to stay here if something like this can slip through the cracks. Now that is has been weeks since we booked our stay, the other options we were considering are either fully booked or their rates have increased far past what we originally paid for the Bay Resort. Jill is looking into other hotels for me, which is a kind gesture but I have google and I can see what the rates are and none compare to the rate we reserved weeks ago. Its a shame and frustrating that our wedding prepping plans are now out the window - it is already tough enough to plan and pay for a wedding but this is adding so much unneeded stress and there really can be no value that can be placed on peace of mind in the weeks before a major life event and due to The Bay Resorts ineptitude that peace of mind has been severely disrupted. *UPDATE 3.4.20* Even though we were told that they would find a replacement hotel for us they have not called back or emailed us with any options. Not only did they cancel our trip but then they LIED *UPDATE 3.5.20* After posting the update Jill reached out to me with one option that was $90 more than what we originally booked the room at another local hotel chain. My wife and I stayed here 1 night, June 8th, 2019. 1. No elevator. They claim all handicap rooms are on first floor, but that still doesn't alleviate the problem of having to carry baggage up multiple flights of stairs. 2. They lied upon check in. The front desk lady stated they were full for sunday-monday night so they can't extend our check out by one hour from 11am to 12pm noon for our saturday to sunday stay. I went online and could book 10+ rooms for the same night she claimed she was full (using it as an excuse for not allowing our late checkout, hence a lie). We should have stayed with my in-laws at another hotel nearby as they allowed our in-laws a later checkout. We asked later that day for late check out and a different front desk person claimed they were short staffed on house keepers and our room was booked the following night, but when we inquired about staying another night with a different person upon checkout, they stated the room were in is free the following night and if we want we can book it another night. Yet another lie from the front desk staff. It seems to be a pattern of lies from different front desk staff 3. Very aged hotel in need of renovations. I saw this stated in the reviews, but decided to stay here anyways. It has a 3 burner stove (of which 2 of the 3 worked, 1 didn't work upon check in but i played with the electric connection it had to make the third burner work again), the pool smelled like a cigarette/tobacco shop with all the folks smoking there the 2 times we tried to go there, the freezer had so much ice on it that you need to defrost the refrigerator to use it (and clean up all the water that will melt during the process) 4. Noisy A/C. Maybe compressor? This isn't just a "little" background noise that you can easily sleep through, but rather loud noises coming from the machine making it hard to sleep through. 5. As per why we didn't bring issues to your attention (as i see the hotel asks reviewers to do this when folks complain about them), it was because right upon check in we were lied to and instead of being easily accommodated with a slightly later checkout, were lied to and told your sold out and can't accommodate. We also knew we couldn't be moved to another room (even if inferior) because a person at the front desk stated that they were booked. So i knew the staff we were dealing with was unaccommodating and lied from the get go, so it made it difficult to believe they'd fix the hotel problems. 6. Kids making noise until 1:30am in morning (some in hallway). I saw this also occurred with other folks in the reviews but hoped it would affect us, but unfortunately it did. read more

We were here for a scooter rally a couple of weekends ago and had a very nice time. We stayed Thursday-Sunday (3 nights). It was $$ but not too bad over all. I called ahead because we were going to be late checking in (3:30am) so they left our key in an envelope with the security guard and had us officially check in the next morning which was awesome. Def do that otherwise you might be screwed getting to your room if you arrive late! I made reservations back in January as soon as I could. What was odd is that I didn't hear from the hotel since then so it took me forever to find the original email confirmation in my gmail. They should def send out a reminder or hello as the summer gets closer to remind guests of their reservations and info. The staff (esp the old man and the 2 women) at the front desk were SO NICE. Really really helpful folks and they were funny too. The hotel let us do whatever without pestering anyone or micromanaging. They also were cool about having our scooters parked out front. The only catch is because the parking lot isn't huge every room gets only 1 parking spot. So if you have 2 cars or a trailer you need to buy a parking pass from the town ($29) for the weekend to park on the street. Everyone at the rally had a great time, esp at the pool. The pool was nice and clean. The hotel is right on the bay with a large dock so def go outside and take a look at the view during the sunset/sunrise. Also in May/June horseshoe crabs come into the shallow waters to mate and it's really cool to see! There were a bunch when we were there. It's nice because since the hotel is on the bay side it's quieter and you get less of the crazy spring break college crowd. Some may say that they need to fix the lopsided "M" on their sign but I just think that leads to it's charm. We headed to Dewey this past weekend in a very large party. At least 48 people. Maybe more... I lost count. The Bay Resort ended up being the perfect place for us all to hang out. It sits right on the Bay and has a long pier where people can go crabbing. There is a cabana and most of our rooms led right out onto the lawn where we gathered for general debauchery of which plenty was had. The women who worked at the desk were friendly and patient considering they have to put up with a lot of drunken idiots. Drinking is allowed on the premises just no glass bottle outside of your room. They provide plastic cups as needed that even have spots to put your name. The rooms have tiny kitchenettes and the beds were a comfortable spot to crash after a long day in the sun or in case you get trapped in your room due to an unknown party invite that you didn't know you were hosting. Like a scene out of a 90's teen movie, our room quickly filled with pizza and alcohol but it turned out to be the best place escape the extreme heat. The A/C works very well. A quick walk to the ocean and close to many of Dewey's more popular locales, the Bay Resort Motel ended up being the perfect place for our not so little reunion. read more

This hotel is staffed by the friendliest people on Earth! The rooms are clean and comfortable. Our kitchenette was surprisingly large, which is a bonus when you are traveling on a budget. It was stocked with everything you would need to cook a three course meal including plates, cutlery, pots and pans, and a cutting board. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is that the decor was a little dated. It looks like they redid the place in the early 90s, but who cares anyway? Let start by saying I Loved my stay here. My fiancé booked us a room here for a one night stay and when we arrived the check in process was quick and easy. When we got to our room, we were even more impressed. It was like having a little apartment. They had a simple set up with a mini fridge, little stove and sink area for cooking, and one of the cleanest bathrooms I have ever used in a hotel/resort. I had never been to the beach area in Delaware before. I wouldn't go back to Dewey Beach cause not fond of the town but this motel has awesome views and a pool and a mini kitchen in your room. A bit crowded with my toddler but worth it's price and can't get a better view. read more
