I'm not usually a fan of BBQ but this place is a 10/10. My boyfriend and I tried the tri-tip sandwich and most places I have tried usually have dry meat but their tri-tip was cooked perfectly and it was moist and juicy! Not to mention their BBQ sauce is delicious! Also tried the baked beans and they were tasty as well! The customer service was amazing, very friendly people who seem to actually want to have a conversation! If you haven't tried this place yet.... Then what are you waiting for ?!?! Overall: We would be back here if we're out in this area. I hesitated to try this place because of the mixed review I saw. I tried it anyway. It's very much a hole in a wall kind of place, but I enjoyed their offerings. I had 3 meat combo with tri-tip, pork ribs, and beef ribs. Side of beans and potato salad. If you have the vision of sauce soaked sweetmeat, I don't think this place is it for you. If you think more like "seasoned slow cook meat", this is it. The meat I got was a very good portion, seasoning is simple but tasty, and the meat was definitely tender. (I recently experienced this famous place for meat serving inedible BBQ, so I was a bit traumatized) As I said, if you go in with the notion of heavy rub based or heavy sauce-based BBQ, this place is not that. They will give you a BBQ sauce, it's just that the meat is not smothered in the sauce from the get-go. I think the overall quality of meat and how it's cooked is good. I came across this place almost accidentally on the way home from a camping trip. We were on our way home to Santa Clarita and knew we were too hungry to wait until we go there, and decided to stop. It has since become one of our favorite places to stop and grab lunch to take out to Ventura and eat on the beach. I realized when we stopped this weekend that I've never posted a review. When driving the 126, I ALWAYS come to The BBQ Place. I never miss it. Each time I've been there, they've amazed me with how fantastic a simple plate of BBQ can be. I typically get the tri-tip as it is always a safe bet for a juicy and well-seasoned meal. I recently ordered a tri-tip burrito and let me tell you... it was the best burrito I've ever had. The first bite having the perfect amount of onions, peppers, melted cheese, juicy tri-tip, and bbq sauce blew me away. I immediately knew that it was the best burrito I've ever had. Hole-in-the-wall location with a father-son duo behind the counter. I got a three-meat combo with pork ribs, chicken and tri-tip. Everything comes dry, which I know my father appreciates, but the sauce is sufficient to cover everything and really good. I got both spicy and sweet sauce, both were great, and subbed baked beans for the potato salads they offer as sides, no problems or attitude. The baked beans were better than the chili, imo, which was just beans and the only disappointment, from my perspective. I might give four-stars in a more competitive market, but no complaints in a small down is more than worthy of five. read more

This restaurant has been a welcome addition to Fillmore. The BBQ Place is serving up: tri-tip, chicken, beef ribs, pork ribs and hot links. All of the meat has great flavor and is cooked well. They serve your typical sides: potato salad, macaroni salad, cole slaw and baked beans. Each of them are pretty standard, with nothing really standing out. The garlic toast though is buttery and delicious. The service can be pretty slow, but the prices are reasonable and the food good, so it's definitely worth the wait. read more

The BBQ place rocks. The Tri-Tip is some of the best anywhere and I've eaten Tri-Tip every where in the United States even Hawaii. Not Alaska though never have been there. The Tri-Tip sandwich is delicious. Toasted roll with a touch of garlic with thick pieces of Tri-Tip that's cooked to perfection. I normally don't like warm BBQ sauce but the BBQ Place's mild sauce is awesome. I haven't tried the spicy BBQ sauce so I not sure how that is but I know it it's probably good. We live in Santa Clarita and go to Ventura on the weekends. We now stop and get sandwiches on our way to Ventura. Once we even got them when we went home. Authentic Santa Maria Tri Tip.!!! I just got a tri tip sandwich to eat in the car. But it doesn't get any better than this. Loss of thinly sliced, perfectly grilled meat on toasted French bread with a light flavorful sauce on the side. Both the beef ribs and tri-tip were dry but decent. The macaroni salad has an odd cucumber taste and was a bit watery. I'd recommend trying a different side. Staff was extremely friendly but make sure you get lots of sauce! read more

This place is awesome. The portions are great, fresh brisket and chicken. They come with small sides (which I didn't really care for) and a slice of garlic bread. The beans were the only good sides I enjoyed, the rest were okay. But the meat is where it's at! They provide awesome barbecue sauce with a great portion. I usually eat enough but had plenty here. We were driving through Fillmore and stopped for lunch. We looked into the BBQ place. It was no frills, but it smelled good and customers looked happy. We are on a low-carb diet, so we ordered beef ribs a la carte with no sauce. They were tender, flavorful and very yummy. The BBQ Place doesn't look like much from the outside, but wow was the food amazingly, surprisingly, delicious! I found this place by chance on a road trip and decided to give it a try. When I walked in and asked how long the goods would take, the man behind the counter opened the grill to reveal beautifully smoked meat that was ready to cut. I ordered the steak with spicy BBQ sauce. It added a spicy punch to my smoky, mouth-watering steak. The kicker is that a nice portion of steak, a large side of chili beans, and a large side of potato salad was only $9.50.
