    Chilaquiles
    C P.

Came by Sunday morning around 9:30. Packed inside. But there was one table open for us, yay! Fast friendly service. Ordered the chilaquiles and coffee. Chilaquiles had different flavoring than other places, a little spicy, but great! Large portions. Would get them again!

My boyfriend and I used to really enjoy coming here, but this last visit was incredibly disappointing. The service was poor, and our server, Julianna, came across as rude and unprofessional. When I asked a simple question about the menu, she went over to the hostess and appeared to mock me, which was completely inappropriate. I also asked for a side of regular butter with my waffles, but instead received something with a strange, almost melted-then-frozen texture that was not appetizing, especially since not everyone enjoys walnuts in their butter. To make matters worse, there were flies everywhere, making it hard to enjoy our meal. When it came time to pay, Julianna avoided our table and kept walking back and forth without checking in. My boyfriend eventually had to go up to the front to settle the bill, and even then, when he tried to politely wish her a good day, she cut her eyes at him and went back to her phone. Overall, the experience was frustrating, and unfortunately, this kind of service reflects poorly on the establishment. People like this have no business in the service industry.

What can I say, this place is so stinking good. Hidden away in an industrial complex, when you walk in you are transformed to a lovely oasis. We had reservations for 2 of us at 5pm and when we arrived there was a line at the door of people waiting to get in. We ordered abalone (farm raised because it is illegal to catch them in the ocean). Oh boy was it good (and expensive) and worth it. It came with a perfect classic beurre blanc sauce (so good I wanted to lick the he plate but did not do that) and some sliced tomatoes. It was lightly breaded with seemed to be like a tempura batter. The veggie rice was really good, tender, creamy and so tasty. We had asparagus (good but typical and we heard afterward you can request them grilled) and lovely heirloom carrots cooked perfectly, tender but firm with a light butter sauce. The bread is yummy, not homemade but sure seems like it. We started with shrimp cocktails which came with 3 large shrimp. So give this place a try but leave a table for me or I can also eat at the bar.

Had such a great experience here on Mother's Day! The restaurant was super busy with a huge waitlist, but the staff handled everything so well and stayed so kind and organized the entire time. The service was amazing, the food was great, and you could tell everyone was working hard to make sure guests still had a good experience despite how packed it was. Definitely appreciate how well they managed such a hectic day. Will for sure be coming back!

I recently came here for dinner on a Thursday night with a fairly large group and we all had the best of time. I got the halibut and my husband got the Thai pork chop which were both tasty. But the winner of the show were all the desserts and wine/pina colada! Their sushi appetizer was so fresh, I couldn't believe it. It just literally melts in your mouth! The tart that took 20 mins came out in 15 mins and was a star meal. Also loved the French toast which is normally a breakfast item. The blended pina colada tasted so good but still got me tipsy haha Overall wonderful service in a small community

This is my third time to this restaurant and have always wanted to try their fried chicken. All the previous times, the food was amazing. Service was great, I sat at the bar and was greeted quickly by a friendly server. I ordered the white meat fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy. I guess it was an off day for the fried chicken. The skin was bland and the meat was a little over cooked. I did make it work with the gravy on my mashed potatoes. So all in all it was great. Will try the chicken again on my next visit.

Had an 8pm dinner reservation 10 minutes early Said they were fixing the table Decided to hang at the bar till table was ready Got seated at 8:25ish. Had to ask for a waitress after 10 more minutes No greeting just a " Are you ready to order". Don't know who waited on us all evening. There were a few Salad came out. The girl who brought it asked if we wanted an extra plate. It never came. Food came out about fifteen minutes later. They close at 9. Food was great. Surprisingly! A lot of staff running ariund without their heads! Nice little restaurant. The outside seating is bigger than inside Great menu Prices are ok $$$ Very close seating inside Service was terrible even though they were friendly enough. Nice bar If the food wasn't good I wouldn't recommend it but that was their saving grace! Go at your own risk! I may be back someday.

If you know anything about Gunsmoke BBQ and Beer in Santa Paula, you know their barbecue already…read morehas a solid reputation....but finally making it into their restaurant just confirmed everything I'd been hearing. I've had the chance to try their BBQ at local events around Ventura County, and it always left an impression. They make some darn good BBQ. BUT for this visit we ended up highlighting something just as exciting...their vegetarian options! It definitely says a lot when a barbecue place has great non meat options. I came with my friend Raquel (yelp elite) for lunch and we went all in on their vegetarian plates...well with one exception, we ordered the deviled eggs too. Let's start there: Their famous Candied Bacon Deviled Eggs are a must. Creamy, flavorful filling, lightly battered egg, topped with crispy bacon...yeah, they're as good as they sound. 10/10. Now for the vegetarian standouts: The Fried Avocado Bites were simple but done so right. Perfectly fried and paired with house made sauces that really brought everything together. Super shareable and perfect as a starter. 10/10. The Cauliflower Tacos were a reminder that you absolutely do NOT need meat for a great taco. These were hearty and loaded with (again) incredible sauces. My friend was obsessed and I get why. They were good, but I would prefer a meat protein taco at a spot like this. 7/10 for me. Beyond the food, the experience really shines here. The space has this perfect mix of country charm and rock n roll edge which is such a fun vibe. Service was top notch, and we love when owners are present and genuinely care. They stopped by to check in, which always makes a place feel extra special. And shoutout to our server Bentley, an absolute sweetheart. Next time you're in Santa Paula, do yourself a favor and check them out.

Gunsmoke is located in Downtown Santa Paula. I didn't pay close attention but I don't believe they have private parking. If you don't know SP, there is street parking and some parking lots. I would be mindful when you are planning to come for parking. I came with a friend midday so there was plenty of parking and seats as well so we got seated right away. I was happy to see the non meat options they have available. I was a bit bummed out they didn't have their hummus but it's just another excuse for me to go back. I did end up getting their cauliflower tacos. My friend got their avocado fries and their devil eggs. I had never had devil eggs, and tried those and were so good. I wanted more but I had already had all my tacos. I did appreciate the owner coming to greet us and finding out I was pescatarian. He was nice, mentioned that even though they are a BBQ spot, they still want to value those customers that don't eat, and asked if there's anything I think of to let him know to see if they can add it to the menu. Really appreciated that. Overall, bummed out I wasn't able to try their BBQ. The options I did try were all really good. I would come back.

Prior to coming in I had tried their beans tacos dorados (tres taquitos) and their chilaquiles. Tacos were okay. I felt like there wasn't that many beans inside. Chilaquiles were delicious. I live close but by the time they got to me, the tortilla was not as crunchy anymore. Still enjoyed them. When I went in, got the chilaquiles again since I wanted to eat them fresh. Even better. Loved the sauce and how crunchy they were. I did get the red ones. They are a bit spicy for those who don't like spice. I have really liked that they use black beans instead of pinto beans. Their red rice has always been nice an fluffy. Another time I went I tried their quesobirria shrimp tacos. They are tied for my all time favorite spicy shrimp tacos. They were so good. The chipotle sauce you do to add to it was delicious. Overall, I love Cocina 1912. Love that it's so close to me and how delicious the food is. I have definitely started to bring people already to try it and will continue to do so.

Cocina 1912 is located in downtown Santa Paula and was easy to find. Large signage outside and plenty of 2-hour parking out front and across the street. This restaurant is surprisingly large. Not only do they have the regular dining area but they also have an attached second room for dining and a larger event space. This space can be rented out for markets, parties - you name it. Would make a great music space too. Another standout here is the staff and the hospitality. The young gal working behind the counter was super nice and welcoming. She helped us with the menu and on deciding what to order. What I also love is even though it's an "order at the counter place", the staff were attentive to come over to our take multiple times to check on us. Talk about A+ service and care. This alone would keep me coming back. Thankfully, the food is equally as good and tasty! We started with a Jamaica drink which was refreshing and hit the spot. For our mains I ordered the Al pastor tacos and my friend went with the shrimp tacos that were made queso birria style. Lastly, I ordered a side of rice and means. Everything was tasty and satisfying! The tortillas are freshly made each day and you could really taste it. The Al pastor and sides were about a 4/5. Not the best I've had but totally satisfied my craving and I'd get them again. The real star of the show was the shrimp tacos! My friend let me try some and I was blown away by the freshness of the shrimp and thought it was a delicious dish. Very spicy though so I know I can't hang lol. Regardless though I loved them, so if you can handle spice and love a good shrimp taco, you absolutely must get these. Such a solid experience here and a fun time with my friend. We'll definitely be back!

At the time the dining room was sparsely populated, only a few other tables were seated. We were seated quickly by the hostess and ordered within a few minutes of sitting down; my wife ordered the seafood pasta I ordered the butternut squash ravioli and the tomato burrata salad as an appetizer. After about 20 minutes the waitress returned to let us know that they were out of the pasta, so my wife asked for the risotto instead. The salad arrived quickly, however my wife noted that it was missing grilled peaches that were listed in the menu description, a disappointment. The salad itself was balsamic dressed cherry tomatoes with a single piece of burrata on top. Another 40 minutes later our entrees finally arrived. Much to my dismay my dish lacked any appreciable character; it was as if they had cooked six month old frozen pasta and thrown up a brown sauce with fried sage on top. My wife's risotto was mostly cheese but was also similarly devoid of other flavors. Now to be fair to the folks here, I did mention to the waitstaff that the flavors in the food were off and they did reduce the bill. They were also apologetic about the wait we faced. Nevertheless, restaurants have three things they need to do well in order to be successful: food, service and ambience. Perhaps if they improved the quality of the food and the time to service more people would come. Needless to say, but I won't be returning.

I'd been wanting to go back and take Dear Hubby to enjoy this very special re-imagining of the previous space, which had been an Irish pub incarnation. When our sister-in-law and two nieces were in town, the five of us were able to spend a quick evening together at Selvin's. We had been working on a project at our house, and by the time we got finished and ready to go out there wasn't a lot of time left as we went on a weeknight and they close at 9:00. I'm surprised that having a full bar, and being attached to a hotel property, that they would hang it up so early - even 9:30 or 10:00 would make more sense. It's such a charming place; seems a shame to have to call it a night so early. The ambiance is absolutely divine, especially out here in suburbia. It's very innovative in its layout. The lighting was carefully planned and is very effective in creating a special mood. And, what can be said about the wall of roses? It's tailor-made for snapping fun photos, that's for sure. The chef is sending out creative and Dee-Licious dishes from the kitchen. Yes, I know how to spell delicious, but it is worth adding the accented flair to stating the fact that this is a cut above many other dining establishments in the Conejo Valley. Dear Hubby and I shared Pappardelle Pasta and a Tuna Tartare appetizer. Both were excellent. One of our nieces ordered the taco platter. Wait till you see the photo. The only thing that was disappointing, menu-wise, was that bread wasn't included, so we ordered some as a side. Two little slices. I've forgotten the price, but I recall that it turned into sticker shock when we saw what was served. I'm tickled that they offer a nice array of zero proof cocktail options. They aren't inexpensive - apparently spirits without alcohol aren't any less (or maybe only slightly less?) than the full-spirited options. Still, it's nice to have the option. Our out of town family members LOVED Selvin's; it was a big hit with all of us. As an added bonus, there was a guitarist playing beautiful acoustic music when we arrived and were seated in the lounge area. Major extra credit!
