I visited this venue 2 years ago with a friend visiting from Germany. They were really strict on their dress code. (we liked that) Surprisingly, we had a blast. My boyfriend and I came here to see Misterwives last night and we had a blast! We got in line outside about 15 minutes before the doors opened. I do wish they had some way of letting you stand in line without being besieged by people with petitions. We were asked to sign the same petition by 3 different people. Quite annoying really. Security came by to check ID's before they opened the doors, which made things move a little faster. There was a security guard checking bags and waving people down with a metal detector, but that process was quick and honestly I like knowing they are checking for weapons in places like that. The bag search wasn't intrusive, I had a teeny tiny purse, he just peeked in and didn't touch anything. The setup inside is pretty nice. Lots of bar areas set up so you don't have to walk to far to get a drink. They have a large area to stand and watch concerts, but we ended up hanging out on one of the staircases on the side because we're short and it provided the best view without us getting jostled around too much. The acoustics were pretty good, though it seemed like when the headliner first started the lead singer's mic needed some adjustment. I think someone fixed it after the first 2 songs though because it got better. I can't speak to how this place is as a nightclub but I would definitely come see another show here. read more

Years ago, I was an avid concert goer, checking out whatever was in town and taking the occasional trek to other cities if it was a show worth the effort. Over the years, my time spent at concerts has dwindled down to almost none; with the occasional local band support, a Roger Waters spectacular, or something that is equally as difficult to pass on regardless of how exorbitant the pricing. With that said, finding a venue to see a quality show at a reasonable price is a goal for this aging music fan. I found two such venues this week on my return to residence in Orlando. One was the Social and the other, the Beacham. At the Social, I pretended I knew how to dance to some veteran ska players, the SLACKERS. Both the acoustics and the vibes were outstanding... it was my first show in a while and I felt right back where I belonged... but this show was clearly just a warm up for what would occur a few nights later. SHARON JONES AND THE DAP KINGS have quite a reputation for their showmanship, but you generally can't have a great show unless all the elements fall into place. THEY FELL INTO PLACE. The energy of the band, the overall appearance of the club, and the waning supermoon all collaborated for one of the most exhilarating nights I have had in recent years. The Beacham was largely responsible for this and I thank them. I haven't seen a crowd so mesmerized by a band in years and I haven't felt so comfortable at a venue in almost as long. Lots of dancing, the crowd was energized and involved, and people just seemed absolutely entranced by Sharon and the band, a very tight show indeed. The subtle blue lighting surrounding the inner walls of the club helped create a mellow atmosphere that allowed for the band and the crowd to feel comfortable with one another. The staff both at the door and inside were also helpful in creating this atmosphere. In addition, the communication I had with the venue before the show was pleasant and real and it truly helped build the vibe for me for the entire experience(thanks again!!!) My only critique for the venue deal with sound and I am not certain that the venue was entirely responsible. One reviewer wrote something about bass and treble, and I agree that some higher levels from the kick and a little less from the tweets would have been better, but with that said, it still sounded GREAT, not good but GREAT! Not every show is going to be perfect but this one really came close, and I look forward to more imperfect shows just like this one! thanks Beacham and Social... you have brought me back into my element in style! I used to see some good shows here "back in the day" (Dead Milkmen, Fugazi, The Toadies) but haven't been in years, since they turned it into multiple cheesy clubs with people I don't care to be around. I'm pleased to see that they are reviving the live music aspect and hope it is a good venue once again. Stephen Marley will be a good test to bring back it's nostalgic awesome-ness. read more

After attending hundreds of shows/concerts (beginning in 1965 w/ James Brown) around the U.S and the world (both as a musician and a fan), in dozens of venues, from basements to roof-tops I feel confidant proclaiming THE BEACHAM Theater/Orlando Florida "THE WORSE VENUE EVER." Unless the band brings their own crew I will NOT advise anyone to play this theater or see a performance there. Our experience on Friday, April 13th seeing the Drive By Truckers was a huge disapointment for us and the others we saw covering their ears. The lack of a professional sound crew was overwhelmingly apparant from the very beginning, forcing us to leave '2 songs' into DBT's first set and before our ears began bleeding. I began stuffing napkins in my ears one song into the opener, hoping something would change before DBT took the stage. It did not. My wife was not so inclined to protect her hearing until several songs had been played and suffered some hearing loss for 2-3 days. If you still want to see a show at The Beacham bring earplugs and don't expect to know what is being played. HINT to BEACHAM; Excessive volume does NOT equate a better show. While the place was kinda cool atmospherically, it SUCKED musically. We left feeling pain in our hearts for DBT and ringing in our poor ears. read more

The beacham was my first clubbing experience and with that said, I don't think I'm ever going again. Parts of the floor were sticky with alcohol and all I smelled was tabaco and weed. Its impossible to feel sexy with those scents. They have a dress code but even with that said, they let just about anyone in. The guys weren't cute if your into the athletic green eyed preppy guys. All I saw were a lot of guys with dreaded locks or spiky hair that looked like it used up a ton of gel. Beware of the dancefloor because you will have a ton of non hot drunk guys who just don't get it when your trying to move away and they will continue dancing with you reguardless. Didnt meet and see anyone worth talking to. My suggestion is for people to go somewhere where the music isn't all just rap and working MEN show up. Not boys that still have nothing to do on the weekened and haven't heard of a shower. read more

I went because they started doing island Saturdays, a reggae night in the social. they do this thing where we can party at beacham and the social. I never knew they were connected! I probably will never return to The Beacham ever again after my experience the other night. My friends and I went on Saturday night since it was free. Everything was fine, we even found a table upstairs that was NOT closed off so we decided to sit there and drink. The female employee working on Saturday, December 29th by the VIP section was a piss poor sorry ass excuse of a worker. She did not greet us, serve us or ask if we needed anything. All this woman told me was that "if I want to sit here I have to throw my empty cups out". I followed her rules and did just that. Security then tried to kick us out of the table, I explained to him what we were told and we were allowed to stay. I bought my drinks from the bar all night. The young woman with wavy hair working at the VIP bar was on point. Extremely friendly, personable and did everything with a smile. We even bought a bottle from her. However, this made the VIP female physically sick and she kicked us out because we "can't sit there and not buy from here cause she gets no credit for the service". Well, you should have actually tried to provide service then instead of being on your damn phone all night and not doing anything for us. I did not want any problems so I told my groups let's go downstairs. However, I continued to buy my drinks upstairs and tip the VIP bartender cause she deserved it for working so hard, being professional and very friendly. The girl working in VIP was childish/pathetic and all she had to do was try to serve us, this could had been resolved. How am I supposed to know you could serve us and you don't even approach/speak to us? This experience proved that Downtown Orlando is truly one of the worst places for nightlife in The US. read more

The Beacham is Taboo... just with live music. I went last night for Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings.. the show was great, but the staff, the pricing, and the value of the experience still leaves a lot to be desired. As soon as you enter and get tiny and/or watered down drinks, girls with big breasts and guys with big arms, but with short attention spans/memory trying to serve you, things don't always go so smooth, and you can't help think that you are still in Taboo, a nightclub that was obviously very busy and probably a big money maker for the owners, but extraordinarily impersonal and trashy (but not the good way). I wish they would have replaced at least some of the staff with real concert venue style professionals (less concerned with how they look, and more on how they perform) when the switched over to trying to be Orlando's midsized venue (which we definitely need).. but the overall experience (despite the great performance), left me leaving like I was ripped off by the establishment. The sound in the establishment is horrible, loud, unclear, reverberant, and just overall not clear and crisp like you would want it to be. They say they are investing $500,000 in renovating the lights and sound (and I think I know where that money is coming from (overpriced drinks, door entrance, and the usual Taboo BS), but they should NOT be inviting great musical acts to play there until they get their sound worked out; it is an embarrassment to Orlando to have a venue like this sound as bad as it does. I will go back only if there is some extraordinary musical act that I want to see, and they've fixed their sound, but for now, it is just not worth even checking out a band you love, you will leave wondering "what did they sing? I couldn't really tell"... I hope for a better mid sized venue soon (PLEASE CEVICHE, start to have more non Flamenco bands (even though they are good, its starting to get repetitive), the Ceviche "concert" side has some of the best sound and acoustics I have ever heard, and I want to go there to see Sharon Jones, not to Taboo.. I mean The Beacham). I am not impressed at all. Even the audio mixer for the opening band looked like he couldn't care at all because he knew how bad it sounded, and I don't think there was too much he could do. Hey, you guys are a big law firm, you own The Beacham, The Social, and (I believe) also Sky 60... get your act together, let your customers feel like you care about them, and invest the money needed to make this place good before your reputation is irreparable. read more

Apparently I jinxed myself (see previous review) and I recently had to go see Matt Nathanson and Andy Grammer, whose concerts were only a few days apart. Joy. For the first, I purchased balcony (aka VIP) tickets, and I got to witness first hand the circus that went on in the so-called VIP area. Basically, (1) It is not at all VIP in the balcony. (2) In order to sit in a booth at the lower level of the balcony, you will need to purchase a higher-end, very overpriced bottle of liquor, wine, etc. (3) In order to sit in a booth at the upper level of the balcony, you will need to purchase any overpriced bottle of liquor, wine, etc. And honestly, the view isn't all that great because you are off to the side. (4) For either of these, you are automatically charged a 20% tip regardless of how terrible your server actually is. (5) There is no sign whatsoever, and no info on their website, regarding how the "VIP" section works. So even though we had paid additional fee to be in this section, we weren't able to enjoy the actual perks of chilling comfortably in a booth without having to spend a ridiculous amount of additional money. (6) Because there were no signs in any of the booths, we saw numerous groups of people sit themselves down before being shoo-ed away a few minutes later by one of the servers. How embarrassing, and no way to treat a real VIP (and that should be all of us that paid for VIP tickets). (7) About 1/3rd into Matt Nathanson's set, they must have given up on kicking people out of the booths and left a big group sitting in one of them without making them pay for anything additional. Meanwhile, the group of people right next to them, that the server had accosted earlier, had ended up purchasing several bottles in order to maintain their status in the booth. Thankfully, at the upper level of the balcony, you are also able to just stand by the bar and enjoy the concert from there. The view was actually decent, and the sound better than I had experienced prior to that night. But will somebody please wash the floor? And I mean, really wash the floor? I was sticking to the ground like I had put glue on my soles. Update on the drinks: Still overpriced crap. Period. Any mixed drinks that we've gotten have been upwards of $7, closer to $8 after tax. And beer is $6. The mixed drinks come in tiny glasses that they fill up with ice so that you barely get any kind of drink. They also make them extremely weak. Update on the sound: Miraculously, at Andy Grammer's concert, the sound was amazing. But I am not confident that it will stay that way for future concerts. Came here for my boyfriends birthday and payed 900$ for two VIP sections literally the entire time we had to constantly ask people to get out of sections. It caused many altercations. The staff was not doing there job. The whole point of purchasing VIP was to be able to relax and hang out with the group of people we came with. The whole night ended by our group getting thrown out after a group of girls attempted to start a fight with us over our section. My first experience with The Beacham involved seeing the talented Sharon Jones shock and amaze with all of her unbridled energy there. I wasn't prepared for how large it was inside, with its enormous vaulted ceilings and balcony and several bars located throughout. And, while it was general admission for the most part, it never once felt crowded. The air was on and kept things from feeling stuffy. And, while I was comfortable staying in the back of the place for a good portion of the show, my friend and I easily found ourselves at the very front of the stage, almost on accident, by the time the encore rolled around. I could have reached out and touched Ms. Jones on the shoulder ... not saying I would have, but I could have. There really isn't a venue like this in all of Orlando (and, for a very poor version of this place, check out House of Blues) and I, for one, will be happy to return there. Ghostland Observatory in April? Yes, please. One quibble? The sound could use some tweaking. More bass and less treble and perhaps even less volume would do the place a world of good. I visited Tampa on a trip and checked out Ybor, wasn't that impressed. So we took the trip to the city of Orlando, and scoped out a good spot. I heard some good stuff about the place. I wasn't disappointed, there were plenty of girls to dance with, played dance-able music all night. Good looking bar tenders too. The one problem is that the speaker system is terrible. It seemed to be close to "clipping" the whole time and was generally too loud. Venue has alot of potential though and I would def. go back if I were in the area. read more

VERY, very Staff heavy - too much and a real distraction... Went to a metal concert (been to a million) and by far this was the most aggressive hawk-eyed staff, rude and ARROGANT. There are three or four big guys in bright yellow shirts INSIDE the pit looking around. FU*%$ing ridiculous! Then there are perimeter guys about 10 feet from him and EVERYWHERE. I've never seen it like this! Every third person who walked past me had a STAFF shirt, some walking around with brooms, and a gazillion yellow STAFF every goddamn place. Retarded - period. Total vibe killer. Whoever owns this (and Social, a few doors down) IS covering HIS ass in case there is a problem. However, the overly aggressive and overly heavy presence to me was a distraction and had the effect of just being a buzz kill. Who wants to lose themself in a pit and go nuts for a little bit when THREE big black guys are literally inside there just staring at you with another guy hanging from the stairwell literally staring at everyone, another on the other side, two in front, in the middle, in the back everywhere. I don't mind the idea of some common sense security but I can tell you it is not very conducive to letting go and having a good time and sort of makes you feel like there's something wrong. There are also guys walking all over with flashlights and everything. A-holes who have no clue. Total buzz kill. Get the f$%# out of there and leave us alone - kind of why we go to these things in the first place, yes? And metal heads are the least problematic group b/c everyone is so cool and chill (unless an accidental injury). Also bartender (female) misinterpreted my just sort of off-handed comment to her, when she denied me two beers at one time, that the first bartender was able to give me two beers at once. I was just a little surprised is all. Basically the dude on the other side gave me my first two beers at once and later on I happened to be on the other side and went to get two beers - from the other bartender. It was just a sort of casual comment and I really didn't care but just mentioned it when all of a sudden she said (screamed?!) she "can ONLY GIVE ONE BEER TO ME OR I WILL LOSE MY JOB!!!!" & was like super aggressive out of nowhere...! I was shocked. There was no band playing and it wasn't even loud. I realized what was happening, that she obviously misinterpreted me and felt bad and went to re-assure her as in, "No, no, no. I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that. I've never been here. I was just letting you know. Don't even worry about the beer, I was just telling you that" (I mean - what the fu....?) So now she grabs my beer away (which I hadn't yet bought) and started SCREAMING at me about "You said he's a BETTER bartender than me? I'm not losing my job because of you!!!". I was looking at her in disbelief and tried to say (now it was a matter of principle), "I NEVER said the other bartender was better than you..." and "YES YOU DID" with the look of Satan and just went fuckin' nuts....(Keep in mind that (a) I just got there (b) I was completely sober (c) my demeanor was normal friendly (was talking with other people) (d) it wasn't lout at all. DRAMA. (sigh....) What the F was THAT?????????? I was in a totally cool chill mood and was basically blindsided by some schizo bartender. Again - buzz kill. I told the other bartender who was cool as shit and who I tipped well (where I obviously went to after this and where (now I understood why!) everyone else was going (15 people waiting at bar or so vs. 1 or 2 on her side). He said she was "going through a lot right now but she's a really nice girl". Hmmm. Ok. So show ends and everyone is looking around at shirts and stuff slowly meandering out (as with every concert) but here come the Yellow Shirts again. Totally chill mood, band stopped playing all of 4 minutes ago (literally) and the Yellow Shirts are pushing to get people out. As said a thousand times, it is one thing to have security or rules and things like that, and another thing to be OVERLY AGGRESSIVE. I would love to discover who owns these clubs, find his favorite artist, take him to that show and treat that guy with the same condescending arrogant overly staffed and pushy employees. Maybe the light bulb would click. The way everyone acts, the comments of the staff and so on, it's easy to get the feeling that the owner had been sued for something in the past and is making damn sure that will NEVER happen again; that would be my best explanation b/c I felt like I was at boot camp compared to a gazillion other similiar-sized venues. I went to the show to let my hair down, relax and get away from the drama. VIBE sucks, it is FREEZING, and the sound quality and layout of the venue just plain sucks. Went to my first concert at The Beacham and I had the best experience. I reserved a table and dealt with Morgan. Each time they had a cancellation for a better table she would contact me and ask if I wanted the better table. The staff was very accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. TERRIBLE SERVICE! NEVER PAY FOR VIP!!!!!! UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE STAFF! Never pay for VIP! I spent $600 for my 21st birthday and the night was a disaster. The whole operation was unorganized. My name was on a list with all the details included and staff members didn't have a clue. I showed the doorman my ID, and he kept looking back and forth at me and the ID. He asked me my information. I advised him of my first, last name, date of birth, address. He sent me to the cashier Patricia, who was totally unprofessional and rude. She said, "$7 dollars!" I advised her too that I paid $600 for VIP. In a very RUDE, let me emphasize on the "RUDE", tone she told me, "You're not 21, you did not pay for VIP $7" I am BEYOND polite at all times, so at this point I was about to cry because I was IMMEDIATELY being treated like dirt. Then she asked me my name, looked on the list and saw it documented. She then proceeded to tell me that I "NEED" to stand over here and tell her everyone that is in my party. I was trying to get everything organized and everyone in and in the mean-time, two males in my party tried to get in and were unaware that they had to pay the cover to get in. I got one of the staff that was handling my VIP, he came down immediately and the men outside started claiming that the males couldn't enter because of their "dress code". They would not let them in. I was supposed to get a bottle of champagne or wine, that was never done. They kicked out two of my best friends because they were sitting with drinks in front of them at a party of 20+ people! I was literally crying. It was a disaster. I am DISGUSTED with their business. I recommend that no one pays to be a "very important person" to be treated like nothing! I could've entered for free, but instead I'm paying $600 for four 750ml bottles of Ciroc in a smoky and foggy top section, in a crowded environment. The security guards are hovering over you, but random people are still coming up there. We took it upon ourselves to let the strangers know of the reservations. People are getting kicked out, people didn't even make it in. Patricia, the CASHIER is totally unprofessional. The manager came to us, and couldn't do anything to change anything. He couldn't go over 'anyone's head'. I am so disappointed, I wasted my money. I am a full time student and employee and I work hard for my money. Terrible birthday. :( read more
