This place has some of the best coffee in the city which is such a disappointment given the extreme lack of service from their baristas. If you order a frozen drink, be prepared to have the 3-4 people who ordered after you get their drink first (because they don't enjoy making the frozens so they just put them off as long as possible- maybe just don't offer them then?). OR heaven forbid their friends come in and order behind you. I've stood there morning after morning watching while my iced coffee waits on the bar just begging for someone to scoop one lowly cup of ice into it and throw on a lid. The baristas just walk by your drink and continue to help the people behind you, or take another order while leaving you waiting even longer. It's absolute insanity. I've lost count of how many times this has happened. No coffee is good enough to be treated like that first thing in the morning. Especially when you're paying $7+ per drink and then leaving a tip. When my friends and I were trying to find a place to do some work past three pm, we were surprisingly low on options. The Bean Gallery is one of the few spots in New Orleans that offers this necessary service! I got the chai latte. The weather has been getting colder recently, and this was the perfect drink to warm me up and keep me going. It was delicious, and next time I'll size up to the large, since the small ended up being insufficient. If I have a gripe it's this: I really want the tables to be slightly bigger. There was a noticeable competition for the bigger tables: any time someone left, other people who were forced to sit in little chairs or at the "bar" style seating would swoop in and snag the big table. Not to mention the outlet issues! I don't know how possible this is, but one or two well placed surge protected power strips may solve this for large sections of the space. I'm always on the search for a great coffee shop for some evening/weekend studying. Came across this place because of a friend. I don't live anywhere in the area but it was definitely worth the drive. This place boasts a typical coffee shop vibe with its small but varied seating arrangement. I appreciated the availability of outlets all around the place. The noise level isn't out of control so you can focus without headphones. They have a good menu with a lot of different choices for drinks, but also food. I will definitely be taking advantage of their desserts on my next visit! The coffee was great and super affordable. I enjoy visiting the Bean Gallery early in the morning of Sundays! It's my lesson planning day for work and I love that the shop opens up at 6:30am for us early risers. The shop has a ride variety of menu options for all of your needs. If you want a plain bagel or a dressed up honey and pecan bagel (like me), to a pastry or breakfast sandwich they have you covered! There's outdoor seating which is a nice option during the warmer months and the seating inside currently offers plenty of social distancing. I love the orange couch and table in the back as a work space and the tables up from close to the windows. There's always featured artwork gracing the walls of the shop too. I'm a sucker for exposed brick and The Bean Shop has that in specific areas of that shop too. The location gives me neighborhood coffee shop vibes and whenever I pop in I feel like a regular! I'm always greeted pleasantly by the staff and that is so important to how I decide where I will spend my morning time. Can't wait for the weekend to roll back around so I can visit again! read more

A customer walks in for a meeting & decides to get some hot tea. The customer walks up to the counter. The barista just stares at her. The customer stares back, waiting for a greeting. The barista looks and says "you need to order something?" As if she's annoyed. The CUSTOMER says "Well Hello How Are You?" The barista mumbles something that cannot be made out but basically "yea whatever". The customer orders, pays, leaves no tip. The barista sits the Tea on the counter & quickly walks away. Ordered black coffee and pastries to go: They have a great variety of fresh pastries & two fresh brewed coffees to choose from. The service was quick and efficient- it's a great place to run in to grab something early in the morning - they open at 6:30 even on the weekends! There were a lot of seating options inside and out with quiet nooks for working or conversation. The staff was "all business" which we appreciated because we were in a bit of a hurry ourselves. There are plenty of spots in NOLA that you'll be called "honey" (which we LOVE), this isn't one of them but it's ok because what they do they do very well! This is my go-to-hide-away place to get my knowledge on. I love the feel of the area & this coffee shop takes on the same vibe. The flow of people in and out is just as 'easy breezy'. Sit indoors for ac air or journey outside for a killer incognito view & natural air; either way it's all good. The food here, especially the Caprese sandwich is the bomb!!! And it's just what the doctor ordered when you're in study-mode & fear stopping for a bite to eat will break your mojo. The dirty chai is killer here. I mean, no you won't die, but it's truly one of the best I've had. They get it right each & every time. Other offerings of coffee based libations are good too, but the dirty chai hails as my favorite. Flavored teas, hot or cold. Water juices, whatever your pleasure of the non-alcoholic sort, they can accommodate you. Eco-friendly, pet friendly & baby friendly... It's just all around friendly. Food-3.5 Ambience-3 I have been here on two separate occasions to study, but it's not my absolute favorite spot to study at. I don't really like the seating arrangements mostly because there aren't that many accessible outlets. I found it to be a little overpriced when I ordered an everything bagel lox. Multiple times looked at me directly and turned around and sipped his drink ....someone walked up minutes after me and was asked "how can I help you?". I've been several times over the past few years and it is in a great part of town with a great atmosphere. A few year an ago I steered away because I kept getting bad coffee drinks. I gave it a chance again twice recently and both times the coffee drink was ..... almost undrinkable. Nice space inside with a bunch of tables, friendly (enough) staff, and a truly delightful patio to enjoy the beautiful weather. My bagel with lox also came with red onions and capers and tomatoes and it was so tasty! I got the side of fresh fruit which was strawberries and they were a perfect sweet treat to balance out the tart and salty bagel and lox. The fruit side is seasonal. Potato chip side is a bag of Zapp's, solid but nothing to write home about. My cafe au lait was also very good--take this with a pillar of salt though because I usually drink the cheap stuff so any step above that is a fancy treat. The prices were very reasonable as all of the ingredients were fresh and tasty, and the lox portion on my bagel was also very generous! If I'm in the neighborhood, I would definitely come back, especially if the weather is nice outside because the patio...for real, beautiful. But I'm a little too much of a homebody to drive across town for this. So it's good and solid, but not out-of-this-world. read more

I discovered today that not only is this an excellent coffee shop (and therefore a great place to study, read, meet with someone, whatever it is you like to do at coffee shops), but it's ALSO an excellent place for a bite to eat. I was starving and couldn't decide where to go for lunch today; no food in the house, wanted something reasonably healthy, etc. I remembered that Bean Gallery had food, so headed there (since I needed coffee anyway). Turned out that the panninis are excellent. I had the Caprese, and it was one of the best I've had, from a coffee shop or anywhere else. You get grapes on the side (or chips or potato salad), which is cool because you don't often see fresh fruit. They're reasonably priced, the staff is always friendly, and there's a huge deck outside to enjoy when the weather is nice. Seems silly to update a five star review with a five star review, but I hope the new information is useful to someone. Wow. I don't think I've been in this coffee shop since I've been yelping, but it's a really cute old house conversion. With a painfully reminding (or astonishing if you weren't here at the time) Katrina line painted above the sugar & cream station in the back. (The line is also above my head btw.) Stopped in for a quick iced tea while on the clock and was dismayed to discover that 9:30 on a week day morning seems to be the time to order your very complicated coffee beverage. What are these drinks with 4 pumps of this and 2 of that then throw the whole thing in a blender...OK that might have been 2 different orders. But the baristas were hustling and I was their 2nd favorite customer since all I wanted was a straight up drink. Of course, the favorite was the guy who just wanted a cup of coffee. My order required both tea and ice. They also had a pastries, juice and a sandwich board. There were lots of folks camped out at the tables and the comfy chairs. But no one was shushing anyone else so that was good. The space on the porch is nice *if* no one is smoking. read more

We stumbled upon the Bean Gallery on a lazy quiet afternoon. Its sounds like quiet is a bit unusual for this coffee shop, but alas when we stopped in there was only three other patrons - so quiet is apt for this review! We were looking for something off the beaten path and anything other than your typical Starbucks. The Bean Gallery fit the bill perfectly. Cozy and relaxed with a bit of an 'artsy' vibe. I also was less than impressed with the Styrofoam cups, but our coffee was strong and flavorful nonetheless. We enjoyed our java, the quaint cozy neighborhood feel, the local art work and were entertained by the signs in the restrooms. I used to swing by occasionally to study, but going forward I am 100% dismissing The Bean Gallery as an option for to go Coffee Shops. I'd shoot this sucker down to a 1, but it's not fair to the baristas who are very nice. My last few visits it's been the same 1-2 baristas and they're extremely rude. They're incredibly inefficient, they don't say a single word when you approach the counter, and it's a huge inconvenience for them when you order coffee because you bite into their gossip time. If you're reading this review and you're trying to study/read in the area Monkey Monkey is a couple of blocks down. They have so many outlets for those using electronics, they're incredibly nice, and they play great music. They have a lot of windows and the lighting is awesome. Now, if you shoot down the opposite side of Carrollton there's Rue De La Course. The lighting sucks, but they open later. Drinks here are phenomenal. It is usually super busy, but if you're going at night you should be okay. *edit* After reading other's reviews I'm committing to the one. I received terrible service from the guy that works here as well. I have a Breville Espresso machine at home, and as an average joe with no barista training my espresso comes out amazing. The espresso here is always over cooked. Shouldn't be rolling your eyes every time someone makes an order, especially if you're overcooking everything you put your hands on. read more

I really like this place, i've found myself in here a bit more lately than usual. Trying to get these last bike rides in while the weather permits has had me up earlier than usual these past mornings and stopping in here to kick off the day has been the move. I salute this coffee shop solely on their hours. I mean, opening at the crack of dawn and closing at midnight?! Talk about being there for you. The inside is really cozy, homey feel. Some well placed tables here n there, nice little seating area outside for you smokers and birdwatchers, it's some nice digs. Nice, clean bathrooms, bike parking just outside, no private lot but there's ample street parking so there shouldn't be much of an issue with that. Best cafe visit during a rainy day ever! Story 1: I came in for a meeting after a storm and there was no power. Did they turn me away? Nope! Just had to pay with cash. Story 2: The cookies are not labeled but that's okay. Staff was happy to tell me about each. From raspberry white chocolate and peanut butter to "I'm not sure it had like 3 different types of chocolate". You can probably guess what I choose.
