Wonderful find! Quaint cafe in an old building on Main Street. High ceilings and 19th century floor. Lots of light and artsy, eclectic decorations. Great lattes and omelettes! Their brioche toast is amazing especially with the local strawberry - rhubarb jam. The service is attentive and mellow. read more

I got to try the new breakfast place The Bear Taphouse & Cafe which had only been open 2 days officially. The place is beautiful and the architectural details are so interesting. The building used to be a bank and you can see one of the heavy vault doors just behind the counter. Look up and you will notice a gorgeous antique tin ceiling painted white. Service was fast and friendly. I had a regular coffee which came in a huge cup and a little side of cream. Then I had the biscuits and gravy. I liked it, and the diced green, yellow, and orange bell peppers were a bit surprising in the sausage gravy. I prefer the more traditional style but it was still tasty and I definitely didn't leave hungry. It was served with rosemary home fries and had a nice presentation! read more

Stopped by on our leaf peeping drive and had zero expectations, but how delighted were we! We tried a beer sampler and loved how they source from local brewers. For lunch, we had an egg Benny on house made biscuit and a soup/sandwich combo on their house made beer bread. They have a new squash soup for fall, which was deelish, but their beer bread wins. It was light, airy, and perfectly toasted. Highly recommend you stop for a bite if in the area. read more

We cannot say enough great things about this place. This is a *must* if you're in Gorham. The food was awesome. Our meal consisted of: -a variety of homemade bread with a jam sampler (tomato bacon jam was our favorite) -egg hash with homemade brioche -meatloaf sandwich seared on the grill -biscuits and gravy -salted caramel coffee -a variety of beer on tap Great service. I went there a couple weeks ago passing through town. It was great. The person running it clearly has a vision and has executed it. We had breakfast. The menu is a little different and good. There is something for everyone. I had the rancheros omelet and a cappuccino. Then got a side of strawberry jam for the toast. We both liked what we had. Good stuff. But It won't be a cheap meal. This is a great spot for having a yummy and relaxing bite to eat with friends. The atmosphere fits the mountains it sits in and the food is creative and flavorful. I had an omelet with spinach and gruyere cheese with fresh grilled up potatoes and my friend had the Crème Brule Pancakes to die for! Hint: Biscuits with gravy has a big cheese biscuit that's covered in a sausage gravy that we all tasted... amazing flavor!! The Bear is an absolute must if you're up in the north country. What separates this perfect gem of a restaurant is the atmosphere, the staff and the taste of the food. The best place I have eaten in years. Any of the omelets with the bread sampler is the way to go. Had the French Onion Soup and chicken pot pie is to absolute heaven. Staff is very kind, though everyone seemed like they were struggling to run a restaurant. Worth it to stop in for coffee and a pastry, but I do not recommend sitting down. Food took 40+ minutes, we received no consistent service and regularly had to find people to remind them we ordered coffee or items that weren't on the table. Breakfast items were wet and cold and, for the price, I expected fresher ingredients or (at minimum) a well cooked meal. read more

This is by far the best place in town. The quality rivals restaurants and bistros I've been to in Boston and NYC. The menu is limited to brunch foods and sandwiches on homemade bread, but you will not be disappointed. High quality beers on tap such as Lawson's, Maine Brewing Company etc. and the they take time behind the bar to make the perfect mimosas of coffee drinks. read more

Great place to stop after a day of hiking in the Mt Washington area. Great food made with care, friendly service, and laid back vibe. The squash soup was delicious. If you haven't tried the Bear Taphouse and Cafe, stop what you're doing and go there immediately! We happened to be driving thru town and decided to stop. SO GLAD WE DID! it's an absolute gem! The space is a perfect eclectic combo of a hip but relaxed vibe. It's brand new so have some patience because it's well worth the wait. We felt like we were being spoiled by all the details they put into everything....including their iced tea of the day! It's obvious by the enthusiasm exhibited by the owner and his daughter that this is a dream come true for them! The menu is limited but very thoughtful so there's something for everyone! The meatloaf sandwich was recommended and it may have been the BEST sandwich we've ever eaten. It is a must! The sandwich was served with a lovely pickled slaw, a perfect pairing. We followed it with lattes and a blueberry dessert! It could not have been any better! All in all, it was a great stop on our journey and after trying, and failing, to convince the owner to move his business to Ticonderoga, we will resign ourselves to making the 4.5 hour trip back to visit them in the future. We seated immediately. Waitress brought over a small glass of warm water. My friend and my husband all went looking forward to a delicious treat. i asked the waitress for ice and she offered us one menu to share. Waitress never bought silver ware. after waiting 20 minutes she came over to take our orders there was one veg sand which and 2 BLT's which came 50 minutes and then sandwich's were so soggy that we could not even pick them up! my friend requested mayo on the side but it came smothered with it. we also ordered corn chowder which looked brown an bland.
