I asked for my hair to be dyed strawberry blonde and I walked out with bright red hair and incredibly unevenly dyed blonde tips. I was assigned Laura/Lori, who tried to talk me out of strawberry blonde and then said she could do the exact reference image. I walked out almost in tears. Now, after 2 hair washes the "permanent" dye that I paid for is pretty much gone. I would not go there again. I walked out with my hair looking fried from how poorly and unhealthily the stylist treated it. I've been to various salons and never left feeling so very deprived of quality service. As a bonus, the price that they made a glaze out to be over the phone was deceiving and unrepresentative of the true cost because they did not include the cost for a blow out over the phone... I just think it'd be logical to assume that a person getting their hair washed would not want to walk out with a wet head during the winter time, so my guess is they were not forthcoming because they wanted the business. Review from the year 2020 and am posting it super late. Sorry. I was in desperate need of a makeover so i took a chance and bought a Groupon for full highlights + glaze. I had the wonderful opportunity of having Lori as my stylist and she was phenomenal. Shis sweet, easy to talk to and great with her hair artwork!!! I am amazed at how she restored my hair into something worth having. First of all, my hair had not been done in over a year. When it WAS DONE over a year ago, I had color done on top of highlights. Plus I ended up doing a curly perm. Bad idea because it truly damaged my hair. I ended up pregnant last year so I decided to hold off on doing anything else. Trust me, my hair was a DISASTER. I am so happy that Lori helped me with my nerves and fear of doing something more to my hair and potentially making the damage worse. She, in turn, created a positive change! As you can see in the photos, my hair looks great! I ended up doing a haircut and blow dry for an additional $95. It was so worth it although they are fairly expensive. Still, so worth it! I want to be able to afford to maintain it and hope to do so in 8-12 weeks. ::crossed fingers:: I have to give 5 stars. The only negative aspect is the prices. I mean, it's Rye! To add, they offer water, coffee and/or tea. They have a clean establishment and a beautiful big bathroom. The staff there are all friendly and do amazing jobs. I was there for over 3 hours and many women left with beautiful hair done! I can't complain at all. I was treated amazingly and would definitely love to return. Update: 3/28/19 - 5 days later Okay, so I washed my hair yesterday with sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. I am disappointed to see that my hair looks horrible straightened. As you can see in the pic, it doesn't look evenly cut and I asked for layers. I didn't get a layered cut although I thought I did since it's what I asked for. I didn't pay $95 to get THIS. I am sad now. I don't think that at this point I will return. Im in Yonkers so it really is out of my way to drive there, especially having a baby. It's a 25 minute drive just to do my hair. I am not complaining about the highlights or the color...I knew it wouldn't be even. Also, I know that the damage I had wouldn't be gone. That's just my hair needing to be cut every few weeks to remove the dead hair. My problem is the haircut!!! I have been to the beauty box several times, but this past time I had a horrible experience. I wanted a trim, and when I sat down with dry hair to tell my hairdresser what I wanted, I got the vibe she wasn't listening. After my wash, she did not ask a single question before starting to cut my hair. Once your hair is cut it's cut-- you cant just ask them to undo it. I was just shocked at the lack of confirmation in regards to what I wanted. I then asked her to do long layers and 5 minutes later she asked "wait what am I supposed to be doing again?". I wanted about 3 inches off and she cut at least 5-6. I am just very upset with the outcome and lack of professionalism. read more

Owner disrespected my 11 yr old and myself for not letting hairdresser know about wanting hot curls when appointment said so I have been to this Salon over the years and I have been taking both my kids. The 2 hairdressers (Lori and Yahaira) were AMAZING. "You should be MORE INVOVLED in your child's appointment and consultation..." -Rude Owner ( Gaynor) I set an appointment for my daughter 2 weeks ago for wash and hot curls. Today was her appointment and we were running late so I called in and said " ... we are running late would be daughter still be able to keep her appointment, wash and curls"? The owner quickly responded YES. I apologized once again for being delayed and thanked her for them to keep the appointment with my daughter. Once I got there, the hair washer told my daughter who had walked in before me that she needed to hurry up and get her sweatshirt off. Which was totally understandable since we were late. That didn't bother me at all! The hairdresser worked on my daughter and thought she was done and only straightened her hair. I responded, " she's suppose to get curls" the owner then chimes in and said " did she ( meaning my 11 yr old) tell the hairdresser that she wanted curls. I responded " I'm not sure, but I made the appointment for a wash and curls it's on your system". The owner says nothing. Before I walked into the salon I told my daughter that she may not be able to get curls since we're running late and it's okay since they run on a schedule so if the hairdresser says she can't do it would not be a surprise. When all was done and the hairdresser walked over spoke to me about having the hair set, I thanked her. I could tell she was in a rush and I didn't fault her for that. I was late! After the OWNER ran my card into the machine she then says to me " you need to be more involved in your child's appointment and consultation" SHE HAD CROSSED THE LINE!! I told her I am very involved and I made the appointment to what we wanted. And how dare her talk to me that way and blame my child for not saying she wanted curls. I made the appointment and it's said " wash and hot curls". I'm am furious and I don't believe I can ever return to this place. She disrespected me in front of her employees and other clients. She continued to repeat herself telling me " I need to be more involved..."Maybe she should have checked in with the hairdresser about my appointment letting her know I was delayed and was suppose to get washed and hot curls. Before immediately saying YES to keeping the appointment. I don't understand why she had to be rude with my daughter who's only 11 and myself. What's the point of having an electronic system for scheduling if no one pays attention to it? So the red head owner decides to cross the line with me when she should of been mad at herself. A simple " hey, I'm glad Yahaira was able to do your hair but next time we may not be able to complete the service..." or " hey, since your daughter is young it's always good to check in with hairdresser to review exactly how you want her her styles and what like of curls or waves etc..." that's all! I didn't go for a free hair style. I always pay and I always pay 20-25% tip. * the hairdresser didn't even " consult" with my daughter. They were able to get me in immediately and did an awesome job fixing a pretty terrible haircut. Maria is an absolute master at highlights. She walked me through a thorough consultation and made me feel very comfortable with the plan to fix my color. Her application of the color and foils was meticulous and her efforts were evident in the final results. The cut Yahaira gave me was also fantastic. She was clear and realistic about what would have to be done to fix my hair. Not only was she able to fix the technical problems left by the previous stylist, but she made it look good! I tried out Beauty Box for full highlights and that trendy, medium length cut from my former long locks. Paul was my colorist. He was very professional, giving me a brief overview of his vision and quickly getting to work. His highlights were flawless and very natural looking- his work is ideal! My stylist was Lindsey, and what a gem! I feel that she quickly tuned into my personality and look, all the while creating a cut for me that suits my lifestyle and maintenance level. She took her time and cut the length off slowly, asking how I felt about the length and then continuing to shorten as I gave permission to do so. Lindsey is excellent because she listens to her customer yet uses her artistic skills to create a beautiful look. Overall, I was treated like a queen; cappuccino, lemon water, and asked every 10-15 if I was comfortable and needed anything. This is what one would expect when dropping several hundred dollars on their precious locks. Even though this place breaks the bank, I am totally willing to make the sacrifice for top quality service and beautiful, healthy hair! The salon has a nice open comfortable feeling when you enter. It's an easy-going atmosphere and the staff were welcoming. I ventured out to Rye with a great deal on a Groupon for single process and glaze and based on the superior yelp ratings. They even allowed me to use their check in special to get a discount on a blow dry! Melissa, my hair colorist was super friendly. She asked me what I was looking for and gave me her suggestions which were thoughtful and in line with what I was looking for. We chatted all throughout my treatment it was like meeting up with an old friend! Truly a great experience all around. The only down points were that the salon was a bit chilly would have been a little bit more comfortable if it was warmer. Also I found the shampoo chairs not the most comfortable. I do admit though I am the Princess and the Pea! The service was so outstanding though, hence the five star rating. I recently when in to get a blow out for my bridal shower. The girl doing my hair was 20 minutes late. I asked if someone could put a braid in my hair and it appeared the girl doing my hair didn't know how / couldn't find anyone else to do it. A braid takes less than a minute, the fact that no-one could take 30 seconds to help on my bridal shower day is absolutely insane to me. It came out okay but due to the staff being late, rude and frazzled I will never come back. read more

i have never ever felt so bad as i did today. i bought a groupon and had a confirmed appointment. i drove 30 mins to get to the salon and from the moment i arrived i got an attitude and was approached with a less then stellar customer service vibe. i was escorted to my chair, where the colorist, looked at me like i was a frog and proceeded to make weird facial gestures and then tell me "she wasn't comfortable highlighting my hair" note to self i am in my 30s, i have dirty blonde hair that i like highlighted a fair blonde. i have highighted my hair since my teen years and i have never been told by a stylist she couldn't take me . so now im siting there, and she doesn't offer to do anything so i said i have a apt, and im here someone will need to take me. so then the manager( who knows) comes over, tells me she doesn't feel comfy and that the other person can do me but not now. i felt less than, it was a horrible way to treat a client and they provided no apologies, i said call my car ( becasue it's valet). i have worked in customer service my whole life, in very high end stores ( tiffany, saks 5th ave, neiman and i am now a top producer in real estate) trust me i can afford stuff and im white, i wonder what would have happened if i was spanish or black. but i left a salon, feeling like complete shit. this salon should take a class in manners, and service. oh and my hair (damaged) i was able to book an apt , and get my hair done and try to redeem this shit experience. you have been warned, i wouldn't wish this dump on my worst enemy. read more

I have been to this salon three times now. The first was for partial highlights and since then for a glaze. Gina is very nice and she has always given me a good color. I have never wanted a blowdry as I feel it causes damage to my hair so usually skip this part. Stylists usually dry it enough so it isnt dripping wet which I think is acceptable. On my last visit, Gina was busy so she was not present for my entire glaze. Another stylist washed me hair then asked me if I wanted a blowdry. I declined. She then sat me at a chair and gave me a hairdryer and a brush and said (nicely) that i could dry my hair myself. !!! I am from Spanish descent and my hair tends to turn orange when colored but Amanda knew from the first time how to treat it. GREAT FIND! I continued to see my wonderful stylist in NJ for YEARS after moving to CT and then Westchester County, after a few very distressing failed attempts at finding someone local. After reading the Yelp reviews of others, I (admittedly, a little fearfully) booked an appointment last year with Yahaira to cut an angled bob. I had recently cut almost 11" of my hair, had a LOB and wanted to get something a little more sleek. She did an AMAZING job... listened to me.. very thorough and precise. I was less anxious about the cut than the colorist, but Yahaira recommended Danielle for color, and I have been THRILLED with them both. Both have lovely personalities but even more important, they really do an amazing job. I have gotten so many compliments on my color and Danielle has been great at really talking to me and making recommendations so that I walk away with a truly natural-looking blonder self. I get highlights and low-lights and she is great at it... and she's made some great recommendations. I trust her, which is huge. The ONLY thing that makes me give The Beauty Box a 4-star rating vs a 5-star is that they don't blow me out after a color, only a cut. Not a huge deal as they will let me use their products to dry my hair myself (and I like to be very gentle with my hair post-treatment which someone else may not do), but it's just not what I'm used to. I suspect that a lot of places in NY and CT may do this, so it may not bother most people, it's just something unfamiliar to me. read more

Love this place!! I was there for the first time a few weeks ago. I am a musician and perform on stage a lot. I wanted a great, unique and Rocking look and that's what I got. I have gotten so many compliments on my flawless blonde color, as well as my edgy cut. This will be my permanent Salon. Since I am surrounded by lights, photographers, rockers, studios etc.. it was important to me that I left there feeling great and ready for the stage. I couldn't be happier! Needed my hair blow dried for my friends wedding so came here yesterday for the first time. Everyone that I spoke with--between booking the appointment and paying--were all very nice. Not super chatty when I was there, but still made me feel welcome. My hair looked amazing all night, which was the best part! Usually my hair loses volume after a haircut when it's got some wave in it, but between the product used and the way it was blowdried, the style stayed put. When I got home, I ended up using more hairspray just to play it safe because I know my hair tends to lose its oomph over time and I didn't want to risk it. Also loved that there was a $25 off deal for first time checking in here. It's actually what made me decide to give this place a shot over one of the other local salons, because it wouldn't have been a huge money sink if the blowdry didn't pan out. I arrived at 5:15 and was promptly seated and asked if I wanted a cappuccino, which I loved (it was delicious)! I showed the stylist a picture of what I wanted...she said we need to do a single process on your roots and then we'll throw a few highlights on top. I kept thinking they we're going to charge me so much more than what I paid for the Groupon, but they didn't, which pleasantly surprised me. I went in wanting dark brown with caramel highlights, but she ended up giving me some reddish color highlights, which I was totally okay with (I'm all up for colorists getting creative). I think it looks great. They had called me before my appt and told me that the woman who would be blow drying my hair had to go home early, which I was disappointed with, but glad they let me know ahead of time (I'm totally fine with saving ~$35). Nonetheless, they let me blow dry my hair myself, which I was totally fine with, I just didn't want to leave with soaking wet hair.
