Quaint bakery. Indoor/outdoor seating. Kind and helpful staff Oscar. Amazing sweet treats, tres leches was my favorite! $8 highly recommend it!

Gluten free vegan blueberry muffin, cut open

The Chunky Scone is far and away a must-visit vegan bakery in Highland Park, in the Ravinia neighborhood. The location is fantastic, it's directly across from a public parking lot with a couple spots in front, (usually taken the 2 times I've visited), and very close to the Ravinia train station. And THE SCONES! I cannot properly express my delight with these delicacies without squealing. The bakery is all vegan, with several gluten free options. The tres leches cup is made of 3 kinds of vegan milks, and the blueberries were the best blueberries I think I have ever had. It was delicate but satisfying, while being creamy and smooth. The pear scones have a great combination of cinnamon and cardamom. The gluten free blueberry muffin was dense, i thought it had the mouth feel of a combination of almond flour and corn flour, pleasantly so. I think I personally prefer the scones, but for someone exclusively GF, they'd love the muffins. Oscar is a pleasure to talk to. He mentioned they do a lot of pop up events, and they post about this on their Instagram and Facebook. The shop is cozy and inviting, and I've been basking in the experience since visiting! The service was great as Oscar was able to tell me about the different items that I was interested in. As a self proclaimed foodie with a decent breadth of food experience, I highly recommend a visit to this bakery!

The Vegan Chocolate Chip Scone And Vegan Dulce De Leche Cake

Highland Park has a new bakery. It also happens to be entirely plant based, so no butter and eggs. The Chunky Scone is among the fancy hip places in Ravinia. For this, the prices are actually pretty good. They have a large variety of cakes, cookies, and more. Came by after getting something from somewhere else around here. It was saying there was a vegan bakery, so I had to get something. This is just a small place, so most people will place an order and take it with them. Even so, there's a few tables outside. There's quite a lot to choose from, so we got a few things. It's about $3 for a cookie. One of these is the Vegan Chocolate Scone. It was baked pretty well and crumbly. There wasn't too much sweetness, just like a regular scone. Also intriguing was the Vegan Dulce De Leche Cake. It's $8 for a cup. This is a cake normally made with milk. I had never had this kind before. This cake is almost like a pudding. Pretty sweet, so being vegan isn't always being healthy. This was pineapple flavored, with cherries and pineapple pieces. Also had some vegan whipped cream. They have some other flavors of this. Good place for baked goods that are plant based. It's a small place so it's mainly to go. There's lots of classic desserts that have been turned into something acceptable for vegans.

Superb bakery! I got the blueberry scone and tres leches and both were absolutely delicious! I got to speak with the owner who is a very kind and welcoming person. I can't wait to come back and try more!

I love Oscar! He's a really great guy and a great baker. My mom and I have been coming to him for years and his food never disappoints.

Help is personable, and provide details about the food. My future nephew in law nearly seeped while eating gluten free food! Thank you!

I had a Caesar salad, my wife has the French onion soup and a grilled cheese and all items were solid. Also had the Chocolate chip cookies which were awesome. They have a ton of pastries that I look forward to trying down the line as well. Would definitely recommend.

I ordered the croque madame with the fried egg on top, and it was delicious. You can absolutely tell they use real butter--the true French way! My waistline might not thank them, but my tastebuds certainly did. I even brought home an almond croissant for the Hubby and snacked on a cheese and chive scone the next day, and everything was just fantastic. The only little hiccup is that the service can get a bit hectic. The staff seemed a little confused trying to match up the order numbers to the tables, and we almost got run over on our way out by a waiter sprinting to the patio! But even with the fast-paced environment, the food is wonderful whether you eat in or grab takeout. Definitely worth a visit! A much better experience here than MY 1st time. I think it's because they enlarged the dining area with more table space. It's still hard to have a conversation due to the high ceilings which echo the sound.

Recently, we had ordered a small cake from the Deerfields Bakery in Buffalo Grove, and really loved it.   A few days ago, while I was in the Deerfield area, I decided to stop by the Deerfield location for the first time in at least five or six years. This bakery has gone through a nice renovation. It is clean, bright, modern, and pleasant, just like the one in Buffalo Grove, except that it is a lot smaller.  Since it was after 4:00 pm when I went, within an hour of closing, some of the shelves were already empty, which is understandable and probably a good sign for the business. Out of nostalgia, I purchased a big smiley face cookie for $3.95.   The girl who helped me was very polite and friendly even though I was just purchasing one cookie.  That made the visit even more pleasant.  However, I would likely get some other baked goods instead next time, as this cookie and its icing were quite hard, and just tasted like a lot of sugar. I am deducting one star mostly because of the parking situation.  There are only four parking spaces by the building, once these spaces are occupied, customers have to walk to the parking lot in the back that's diagonal from the bakery, and cross a busy driveway shared with a bank.  This can be especially inconvenient when carrying a cake. Since the Buffalo Grove location is much larger and has its own parking lot that makes parking easy, I will most likely continue going to the Buffalo Grove location unless I happen to be in the Deerfield area.
