Quaint bakery. Indoor/outdoor seating. Kind and helpful staff Oscar. Amazing sweet treats, tres leches was my favorite! $8 highly recommend it!

Gluten free vegan blueberry muffin, cut open

The Chunky Scone is far and away a must-visit vegan bakery in Highland Park, in the Ravinia neighborhood. The location is fantastic, it's directly across from a public parking lot with a couple spots in front, (usually taken the 2 times I've visited), and very close to the Ravinia train station. And THE SCONES! I cannot properly express my delight with these delicacies without squealing. The bakery is all vegan, with several gluten free options. The tres leches cup is made of 3 kinds of vegan milks, and the blueberries were the best blueberries I think I have ever had. It was delicate but satisfying, while being creamy and smooth. The pear scones have a great combination of cinnamon and cardamom. The gluten free blueberry muffin was dense, i thought it had the mouth feel of a combination of almond flour and corn flour, pleasantly so. I think I personally prefer the scones, but for someone exclusively GF, they'd love the muffins. Oscar is a pleasure to talk to. He mentioned they do a lot of pop up events, and they post about this on their Instagram and Facebook. The shop is cozy and inviting, and I've been basking in the experience since visiting! The service was great as Oscar was able to tell me about the different items that I was interested in. As a self proclaimed foodie with a decent breadth of food experience, I highly recommend a visit to this bakery!

The Vegan Chocolate Chip Scone And Vegan Dulce De Leche Cake

Highland Park has a new bakery. It also happens to be entirely plant based, so no butter and eggs. The Chunky Scone is among the fancy hip places in Ravinia. For this, the prices are actually pretty good. They have a large variety of cakes, cookies, and more. Came by after getting something from somewhere else around here. It was saying there was a vegan bakery, so I had to get something. This is just a small place, so most people will place an order and take it with them. Even so, there's a few tables outside. There's quite a lot to choose from, so we got a few things. It's about $3 for a cookie. One of these is the Vegan Chocolate Scone. It was baked pretty well and crumbly. There wasn't too much sweetness, just like a regular scone. Also intriguing was the Vegan Dulce De Leche Cake. It's $8 for a cup. This is a cake normally made with milk. I had never had this kind before. This cake is almost like a pudding. Pretty sweet, so being vegan isn't always being healthy. This was pineapple flavored, with cherries and pineapple pieces. Also had some vegan whipped cream. They have some other flavors of this. Good place for baked goods that are plant based. It's a small place so it's mainly to go. There's lots of classic desserts that have been turned into something acceptable for vegans.

Superb bakery! I got the blueberry scone and tres leches and both were absolutely delicious! I got to speak with the owner who is a very kind and welcoming person. I can't wait to come back and try more!

Help is personable, and provide details about the food. My future nephew in law nearly seeped while eating gluten free food! Thank you!

I'm not sure that I've ever had a bad experience at Spirit Elephant. The handcrafted cocktails and…read moremocktails are always refreshing and flavorful and the presentation of the drinks, as well as the food is always photo-worthy. I always look forward to the seasonal rotation of menu items, as I know the ingredients will be fresh and in season, and I love looking forward to new dishes. I absolutely adore Spirit Elephant and have loved making this my go-to spot in Winnetka. I have had Meet Up events, girls brunches and date nights here, and always enjoy the experience. I've honestly been here more times than I can count. My omnivore friends are always pleasantly surprised once they've been officially introduced to the magic of Spirit Elephant. I've loved watching all of the small changes over the years, and have appreciated that the quality of the food and handcrafted cocktails has never changed. I have raved of the patio in the past, but they've since done two major upgrades, and I love spending weekend afternoons with a group of friends during the warmer months on their patio even more. The staff is phenomenal, and I appreciate that I always know my server will have an excellent recommendation whenever I stop in (I mean, you truly cannot go wrong with anything that you order).

The tofu in the bao buns was so crispy and delicious that my carnivore friend said tasted just like pork belly. Having never had pork belly, I was happy that to me it tasted like tofu since I love tofu. The poke nachos were a bit spicy for me but flavorful and delicious. Again, my friend thought it really tasted like tuna. My friend wanted to split the steak which I thought wasn't their strongest dish because it tasted more processed and not like lovely tofu nor like meat. But for those who enjoy vegan steaks, it was quite flavorful and moist. The potatoes were so fluffy and crispy. But not my fav of their dishes. As always the manager, Jordan, comes by and makes us feel like VIPs, laughing and treating us like old friends. And the whole team works together smoothly. Being surrounded by plants with perfect warm lighting makes the ambiance just as wonderful as the food itself.

We had a…read morelarge table (not sure is someone reserved it or not) looking right out onto Roger Williams ave. We had plenty of room and it was nice to have delicious beer, good food, and a pleasant view of this part of Highland Park. I've been here before when it had a different name, but it seems like little has changed. This is a well warn bar! Comfy seats at the bar and a smattering of booths and table with a homey feel - lots of wood and available light from the large front window. This is not a huge room by any means but it never felt crowded. Our group had mostly apps like guac and chips and a quesadilla or two. I tried a Kolsch lager and a Marzen lager both if which were a little cheaper than usual due to the Happy Hour Special of $5 a beer. Margaritas are $6 at Happy Hour. The beer was very good! We had a great waiter and being seated just a few feet from the bar meant no one went thirsty or hungry for long. On past visits I was seated on the back patio but we had rain on this most recent visit, and it's also March! (Patio season does not start in the Chicago area for at least another month or month and a half!) The patio is a nice little wood fenced in area with lots of tables and a back tap bar. Not sure if that set-up is still the same.... This is a great local bar with a lot of rustic, homey charm. I'd definitely recommend if you want good local beer in a friendly old-school bar.

I waited for 10 minutes without even an acknowledgement of my presence. Not even eye contact. Another patron walked in and sat at the bar. Bartender hollered out "margarita"? and then prepared him his margarita. Still no engagement or acknowledgement whatsoever. I got up and left. No surprise the place was empty.I'm sorry I do not have a food review. I did not want to wait all day to be served.

I hadn't been since their renovation and made it there last Thursday. It was really cute ambiance - I loved the interior designer's work. The place has options of seating - inside and outside, ranging from metal chairs to comfortable upholstered benches. We got the tom kha to begin with, which my husband, who's not vegetarian, devoured. It was truly delicious! We then got the Kung Pao with mushrooms and it was incredible - the flavors, the choice of vegetables, the sauce - all of it! We also got a chow mein but with rice noodles - this was the one dish that could take some improvement. Granted, the original recipe calls for wheat noodles, and that might be really good, though our rice noodles version of it was came out soggy. Our server had clearly had a long day - she was tired and forgetful (didn't bring us rice and we had a hard time flagging her down to request it). She also just brought us the check after dinner, without asking if we wanted any dessert. All in all, highly recommend this place for delicious plant-based food.
