we did not have the same issues with the staff as some of the other reviews did, they actually gave us a free upgrade on our room. Our issue was with the decor. They were going for an antique look, but they didn't pull it off. It's 2012, we should not have to keep telling people that wallpaper is outdated. The double shower was big, but the fake tile ruined it. Overall, it served its purpose, but for the price we will probably stay at a more classy place next time. read more

My husband and I stayed for one night for a little anniversary getaway. We booked a queen room with hot tub for 204$. Pros: The room was clean and pretty big. There was a beautiful fire place which I made use of right away. The reason we got that room was for the hot tub, we were really excited about it.There were nice fluffy bathrobes and more than enough towels.The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were informed of events that were happening in the area. There was parking right in front of our room. The Christopher's Inn web page is very good as well. With plenty of information, not just about the hotel, but also about surrounding wineries, spas, restaurants, hiking and so forth. Even though this inn is directly on the main road we couldn't hear much noise from the street. Our room was located further away from the road though. So if you are a light sleeper and sensitive to noise you should ask for a room away from the main road. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were soft and clean. The inn is also in a great location, only a few blocks away from great restaurants and bars. Cons: The moment we came into the room my husband said that it smells old in the room. It seemed like the room hadn't been aired out in a while. There was also no microwave or mini fridge, which we had expected for that price. The parking spots were so small that I had to get out before my husband parked because it would have been too difficult for me to get out (I am skinny!). There was about a foot and a half between the car doors. The fireplace turned right on when I turned the knob but after we had turned it off we weren't able to turn it back on (which might have been our mistake, I don't know). It took about 15 to 20 minutes until we finally got our hot tub going. The button would just not respond. When the jets finally started going a few brown mold flakes came out of them, obviously the hot tub had not been used in a while/ been attended to. The water in Calistoga is also very bad, it has a slight stench to it and dries your skin out immediately (which is not the Hotels fault, but it would be a nice upgrade to install shower filters). My husband said the found the bed a bit hard, I felt comfortable though.So I guess it depends on your preference. The "gourmet" breakfast was not gourmet. These were the options: fruit salad, whole fruits, greek yoghurt, 2 types of cereal and milk, orange juice, coffee, toast, butter, cream cheese and one choice of jelly, a few danishes and hard boiled eggs. This was definitely not a great breakfast for people who like savory food in the morning. As we were packing up in the morning we heard a worker making some loud noise from the neighboring room (which I didn't really mind so much, if work needs to be done it needs to be done.) What annoyed me though was that one of the receptionists came to look what he was doing and started pretty much yelling at him about not doing what he was supposed to do. That was extremely rude in my eyes. Especially when there are guests around. Oh and for the decoration lovers: These rooms are decorated in a vintage style but absolutely tasteless. Most of the pictures didn't go together as well as pretty much everything else in the room. All in all I would not come here again. It's just too expensive for what you get. read more

I just went to Christophers in on 12/20-12/21. It was so awesome! I have read the reviews and the 3 stars are just not making this place seem nice enough. Sure it is not a new york hotel but its a quaint little in located steps from downtown. The front desk lady was AMAZING!!!! My room was nice, and the quiche lorraine in the morning was splendid! I just came back from a weekend getaway at the Bergson and they did not disappoint. When I originally booked here I was a little nervous because I am used to staying at larger hotel chains so I had no idea what to expect. I'm beyond pleased with my decision to stay here. From the moment my husband and I checked in we were truly taken care of. The friendly, courteous and prompt service made the experience surpass our expectations. Every staff member that we came across was so welcoming and friendly. The rooms were very clean, beds were comfortable and the hand lotion they had was by far the best lotion I've ever used in my life! They served breakfast every morning and even hosted a wine tasting night which was an unexpected surprise. The location is a block away from all the restaurants and stores in downtown Calistoga. My daughter got married Oct. 22, 2011 in Calistoga and we wanted to have the wedding party and as many family members as possible stay at the same place. We chose the Christopher Inn. I believe they have 21 rooms and we utilized 20 of the 21 rooms. Adele and Christopher could not have been more gracious or accommodating to all of us. They made adjustments of rooms for those who had physical disabilities and changed them to rooms without stairs without any fuss at all. I loved my room, #10. If you are alone or with your significant other, this is the room for you. You enter through a private gate to a small private patio with a small table, two chairs and an outdoor fireplace. There is a small deck with a loveseat where the door to the room is located. The room is small, but so intimate! Light yellow with white trim and plantation shutters. (All the rooms I saw (at least 5) were all decorated beautifully and were all different. The entire property was immaculate!) This was my private hamlet for 3 nights. I felt like a queen! Each morning a basket of breakfast was delivered to my porch, with a happy little knock. I loved the privacy of my room and viewed the same in all the other rooms as well. I cannot thank Adele and Christopher enough for making my stay, as well as everyone else's such a wonderful experience. I can't wait to go back. We enjoyed our stay at Christopher's. The room was average--a little small, tv a bit old and fireplace didn't seem to work well, but all of the other attributes made up for it. Nice bed, nice soaps/products and decent breakfast. Great location, quaint B&B and excellent service. Ed helped us make reservations (catering to our vegetarian needs) and recommended wineries and eateries. We also had to sign an apartment lease last minute and he was gracious enough to let us use their computer. Ed will make your stay worthwhile. We stayed at Christopher's Inn last weekend in Room 8 and in the middle of the night we could hear a fight from the room next door at 1:00 p.m. The police came and then it was quiet. This was very upsetting for us as we were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary and the individuals in room 9 were fighting and shouting. The next morning I mentioned the incident to the front desk and they just pretty much thought it was not an issue. We will not stay at this Inn again as this was our second visit and we were very disappointed. read more

The rooms are small, but lovely. Included a really nice breakfast. Lots of restaurant were in walking distance. Can't say enough nice things. My boyfriend and I decided on a last minute getaway to Calistoga. I had wanted to stay here for a while but it was always booked. This time we lucked out, when we called they were so accommodating, allowing us to stay for just one night. We had a beautifully appointed King Suite with a fireplace, heavenly jacuzzi tub & cozy balcony. The staff was so helpful and friendly, the breakfast was just right and the L'Occitane bath products were luxurious. The location is perfect for a walk into Calistoga or a quick drive to St. Helena. We highly recommend it and will definitely stay there again. read more

Looks can be deceiving. Here I am up at 2:52 am at The Bergson. I booked this room to stay at because it looked so updated and posh in the pictures, but that's about all this one bed queen room has going for it. Upon arrival, I opened the door to a cold, but cute and tastefully decorated room with a queen bed, and I was pleased with the aesthetic. After a long day of nursing school, I was exhausted and my plan was to shower and hit the sheets. The bathroom was clean, but dated, which was not too much of a problem for me. As I was undressing, I heard what sounded like a mans voice in my room. Sheer terror washed over me as I thought that someone was in my room. Like in a scene from Naked and Afraid, I cracked the door and cautiously peered out of the bathroom; unsure of what fate was to be bestowed upon me. To my relief, I was alone! I chalked the voice up to sheer exhaustion and went about my business. After quickly showering, I got my PJs on and sat on the plush looking bed. Plush looking being the key! This thing was hard and lumpy. Oh well, I was exhausted and anything was fine at this point. As I was laying down, I heard another voice, except this time it was a woman's voice coming from the bathroom. What the crap?! I shot up out of bed with my heart pounding and cautiously turned on the light and yelled, "Hello?!" No answer. Alone again. Confused, I sat and listened and realized it was just my neighbors! Phew. As I was trying to get comfortable in the rock hard bed, I heard the couple again. Not alarmed, I laid there listening to their conversation and plans for tomorrow. She needed to stop by the cute little shop and pick up that purse she wanted, and he still needed to get wine. As their plans for the day filled my head, I drifted off to sleep wondering if he was a white or red wine kind of guy. About two hours later, I woke up to hear their shower turning on. Thank gosh I was so exhausted because normally I have a hard time falling back asleep. I slowly drifted off again trying to get comfortable in the lumpy bed. Well now it's 2:52 am and here I am writing this review because I can't fall back asleep. They were both up, peeing, drinking water and chatting. I am not sure if they are just now falling asleep or what, but they sure do fall asleep fast. He sounds like he is sleeping well, because the amount of snoring coming from him tells me so. Poor guy, he must be exhausted. Oh wait, that is me! So here is my review: The bed is lumpy and hard, and the walls are PAPER THIN. You can hear your neighbors and the road (128). I now have a pretty good idea of who my neighbors are and I decided that if I see them in the morning at the continental breakfast, I will recommend the red wine, as life is too short to drink bad wine. I truly was hoping for a comfortable bed and sound room; I did not experience either here. If your looking for decor over quality, then this is your place. read more

Recently I got married and my wife and I needed to find places for our out of town guests to stay in Calistoga. We initially looked at Christopher's Inn as a place for she and I to stay and even booked a room with them. Thinking better of it a few hours later (we didn't want to be staying where our families were staying, per se) we called back to see if we could cancel the reservation. We were told that we could do this but that we would be subject to a 10% cancelation fee of $95. We protested saying that we had only just booked the place and that we even had family members who could take over our reservation but the management here stuck to their guns. I understand that everyone wants individual treatment and that policies exist to help with difficult decisions but, in this instance, and considering the thousands of dollars the Inn made from our families, they could have waived the $95 charge. Keep in mind that this was right after we were urged to book the room because it was "During the harvest and these rooms go quickly" in other words, "We'll have no trouble filling your canceled reservation, we're just sticking to the policy regardless." Now we felt bad for sending our guests there and trapped into not saying anything. My wife's mother had already booked a room there and told several other family members to book there so we felt hamstrung to not push too hard lest ownership somehow let our difficulties with them affect our guests staying there. So, it is for this inflexibility, the generally curt treatment my wife recieved from the man who runs the place, and the lack of ability to think outside the box and realize when your policies just sound greedy, you get 1 star. The rooms here were decent, clean at least, if not over priced for what they were. Definitely not new, and not in a charming "antique furnishings" kinda way. For that, you should stay at the Pink Mansion up the road a bit; where my wife and I stayed on our wedding night and had a wonderful time, room and experience. read more

I reserved a room for my birthday and was shocked when I got there to find out that they'd overbooked and didn't have my reservation! The manager informed me and the 6 other couples waiting in the lobby that they didn't know about our reservations, since they didn't have it and hotel.com was booking people over and over again for the same room. I was really annoyed by the manager's lack of organization and how she handled the situation. She and the owner blamed Expedia for the mistake and rambled about how it wasn't their fault and how they've never had a bad review. Not only did the woman not help us, at all, when I asked her repeatedly to check her computer to see if our reservation was listed, she also called me by another name. Martinez...Ramirez...I guess it was all the same to her. Super unprofessional and they didn't even offer to help us find other accommodations since we all drove from out of town. My husband and I recently stayed in Room 4 which I would not recommend for anyone. The room was extremely small with an uncomfortable queen bed squeezed in. The bedding was old as was the carpet. The air conditioner barely worked and the shower awful. A small investment in some things like a new mattress, comforter and shower head would be a great improvement. Just needs updating! read more

My friend and I reserved a 3 night stay for a "mom's-only" getaway. What a wonderful experience! Anna checked us in, gave us the details of where to find everything and what to expect for breakfast (important info!). Everything was seamless from the beginning to check-out. We had a King Suite with the patio in the main house (room 208). The noise from the road was minimal, the fountain on the patio was a lovely background sound and we left the patio door open most of the time we were there. The fireplace is NOT just for decoration and warmed the room immediately! Surprise in the room: we weren't expecting the glass wall separating the shower from the main room! Obviously meant to be romantic, it was a little awkward for best friends :) Breakfast was delicious; homemade granola, toasts, pastries, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, milk, juice, quiche on Saturday, yummy organic French roast, etc etc etc. We asked if there was a microwave for popcorn and Anna popped it for us and brought it up to the room. Bed was super comfy, jaccuzzi tub was fab, toiletries (L'Occtaine) were lavish, no complaints. The maids were quick and courteous. Although our weekend was overcast and raining, we enjoyed our stay immensely. Thank you, all! read more

My biggest complaint about this place is that the carpet is absolutely filthy!! The carpet is pink and has black stains all over it. My husband and I were afraid to walk barefoot in the room. We wore our flip flops like slippers. The breakfast was more of a continental breakfast, so don't expect anything spectacular. It consisted of granola, fruit, toast and yogurt mainly. The price was good considering the area but I would not stay here again. The carpet ruined our stay b/c we were so disgusted by it. read more

We stumbled upon this place in the AAA book and thought it to be a bit expensive. We drove up to Calistoga and found that nothing was available except for this little inn. At about 10pm we said we would take the room, having no other options. When we came in the employee took about 30 minutes to explain to us all the things we should do, that souonded as if the hotel gets a cut of the profits made if we show up. Then she sells us a map for $3.00 that would be free in another place. (Considering the time and our exhaustion and that we just wanted to get to bed-we didn't have time or capacity to just say no to the map since she had gone on an on about it for 10 minutes.) Then when she asked where we got the name of the Inn I mentioned the AAA book and if we could apply the discount. She said it was already applied and continued to charge us the full amount. Well, how could it be applied if we didn't tell you we were AAA members? We were too tired to check and didn't realize until the next morning that she didn't apply the discount. Dishonesty alone is enough for a zero star rating. So then we get to the room-no bigger then the size of our tiny little kitchen with a bedspread that my mom had on my bed 20 years ago-ridiculous! The bathroom had ants crawling everywhere. The room smelled like it hadn't been dusted in years. Ants and dirt alone is enough for a zero. Then for the price, breakfast was not included-not even continental. It is another $10.00 per person. We gave the place a one because it is cute outside but that is it. I don't recommend this place at all...the next night we stayed at the Best Western down the street and it was five times as nice as Christophers Inn...there is a review for that one too... read more

My husband and I stayed at the Christopher Inn last week-end, and we spent more than $500 for room and breakfast. The room was very nice, but the breakfast was a joke!! A basket was brought to our room, and it included 2 glasses of orange juice, 2 very small croissants, 2 bowls with granola, yogurt and fruit and a pot of weak lukewarm coffee. That's it!! For the price I expected a great sit-down breakfast in a beautiful setting. We will definitely never return to this place. read more

i dont get why this place only has three stars in yelp-me and my boyfriend thought this place was amazing!! i knew it was going to be when we entered the lobby for checkin.the lobby very was clean, cozy and inviting(fireplace going, coffee and cookies, comfy vintage couch, books about the area)..service was fast and friendly, checking in and out.our room had a fireplace and a window that opened, so we spent most of the night by the fire listening to the rain . :) i should also mention that our room had a two person shower!! what?!? next morning, we had a delicious breakfast in the lobby with fellow travelers before we checked out. we liked this place for a lot of reasons- nice drive through the vineyards to get there, bed& breakfast, quiet , and the deal i got was a steal for this little gem! i highly recommend this place to people looking for a romantic getaway. upon checkout , the new owner explained to us that by spring the rooms will have been revamped- i would definitely stay again when we come back for my birthday in May :) read more

I can't say enough about how well treated and accomodating the staff was during my two day stay . My room with jacuzzi tub was heaven. The bed was very comfortable. The private courtyard with fountain with gorgeous flowers nice and the room was big enough to feel luxurious . The breakfast was better than most continental breakfasts with fresh fruit, great granola and pastries. But what really stood out to me was that the staff was there to please and help and in my case, really went the full nine yards in helping me with some car issues I encountered while I was visiting. We checked into our room and had a little time for a nap before heading out to dinner. Upon pulling back the covers, we discovered an old Kleenex and pubic hair in the sheets. It was obvious that the sheets had not been changed. When we notified the person on duty, they acted like it wasn't a big deal and when we asked to speak with the manager, no one ever contacted us. A great bed and breakfast, an absolute must stay. The location is great, just a 5 minute walk to downtown. The inn itself is charming, clean, comfortable, with a very nice staff. My husband and I stayed here for two nights at the end of 2012 and really enjoyed our stay at Christopher's Inn. We had a lovely room - a queen signature suite. It came with a jacuzzi bath tub, a very comfortable queen size bed, a small outdoor patio and a seating area which had a gas fireplace. It was really cold in the evenings, so we spent our evenings reading and enjoying a glass of wine by the fireplace. They also provided a generous breakfast each morning, which included some very innovative dishes. We would highly recommend this inn for anyone looking for a romantic getaway or a group of friends or a family in beautiful Calistoga. read more
