The Bergson is part of the Best Western chain of hotels. Maybe the name and the location justifies for the high price for a room per night. It's conveniently located near the downtown area of Calistoga but the establishment itself is pretty outdated. Some of the other flaws the other guests pointed out are correct. The walls are thin. It's so thin that we can hear the phone ringing in the room next to us. There some perks to the hotel. The parking is complimentary but the parking lot is small. There's also a complimentary breakfast that they bring to your room. It's nothing to jump up and down about. It's fruit juice, milk, yogurt, pastries and some hard boiled eggs. Also the staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful during our stay. The rooms could certainly use a facelift at this price point. The bathroom tubs are outdated. The queen bed in our room was very squeaky. Perhaps they can add some USB ports for charging in the next renovation. read more

We recently stayed at The Bergson. The location is convenient, the staff is friendly and the room was clean. The issue was the paper thin walls. On our first night we awoke to 2 folks getting in around 1 am and being quite loud. Then, our smoke alarm started buzzing (bad battery which makes me wonder about maintenance.) On night 2, the same couple, I'm guessing, was loud from 1:03- 4 something in the morning. At 6 we were awaken by snoring. Since there is no office staff after 9 pm there was no option of calling them to handle the situation. We did not want to knock on their door. Finally, it's right on the highway. It is also walking distance to all the glory that is Calistoga! The amenities are good, the rooms are clean and quaint (small). This place actually gets a 4 1/2 stars from me. The building itself isn't like a normal hotel style it's more like a B&B, it's really beautiful. The fireplace is the best amenity in the room. The bed is big and comfortable as well. There's a nice little nook in the corner you can lay on in the window. The service was great. I wasn't able to make it on my first night and I was passed the cancellation time and they accommodated me anyways and didn't charge me for the first night stay. The location is literally near everything downtown walking distance. They have cable I'm not going to give this place any "cons" but I do have a few suggestions for the hotel. #1 they could have more breakfast options #2 they need a hair dryer #new doors for the bathrooms for privacy read more

Perfect room, perfect price. While the rooms are small as someone on here pointed out, who is spending a lot of time in the room. This upgraded older motel was wonderful. We had a lovely breakfast out on our patio of muffins, oj, and yogurt that were delivered and just what the doctor ordered after a day of wine tasting. It is walkable to the little downtown area and still very quiet where it is located. The bed was very comfortable and they had l'occitane products in the room. We will be back! read more

Wonderful boutique hotel in the perfect location. Upon arriving you get fresh baked cookies, for breakfast each day you get a little basket delivered right to your room that includes some options of parfaits with home made granola, a choice of a fruit, yogurt, orange juice, milk or this morning there was even an option for banana bread! Rooms are clean and comfortable and I love that some of them have a patio. Staff is friendly and helpful with suggestions to wineries and restaurants and don't miss walking to Lola's Wines right next door for a lovely garden tasting. The hotel also offers a shuttle service to and from further out wineries . We stayed for my birthday in early August of this year, and yes we are back a month later enjoying all things Calistoga and staying once again at The Bergson! read more

This hotel is my new favorite place to stay while visiting Calistoga. I can't say enough good things about this charming hotel. The Bergson is a rustic, quaint, cozy, amenity filled hotel. From the Le Occitane bathroom and shower supplies to the warm feather bed and delicious continental breakfast which had a wonderful balance of warm and cold food selections to choose from. We loved that the downtown restaurants were super walkable from The Bergson. This hotel is a perfect quintessential gem. We needed a place to put up eight Families attending our daughter's wedding in Calistoga. The Bergson, although on a busy road, provided a tranquil setting for us to gather every morning for breakfast, a central location to head out for various events, and very comfortable rooms, all air-conditioned. Even though it is on a busy road, the rooms were very quiet. It is only four blocks from the Main Street of Calistoga (very easy short walk). The hotel is not super elegant, but very charming, and most of the rooms have a generous seating area that is comfortable to hang out and have a glass of wine. Great staff at the front desk, that keeps the varied breakfast offerings well stocked, and was very eager to help in any way they could. The Bergson was the perfect place for our party. read more

We had a last minute change of plans with our original hotel in Santa Rosa. I found The Bergson has availability for 2 nights and despite the reviews I read on Yelp; I didn't have a choice so I booked it. When we reached the location we were amazed how clean the property was. Guest service was kind and helpful. We were given room 202 and it was on the 2nd floor. It's a cozy room with an a/c, fridge, microwave and comfortable bed. The luxury products in the bathroom was a plus! It was equipped with body lotion, body wash, shampoo and conditioner. The shower got hot fast but it's one of those old school style --- don't flush the toilet while someone is in the shower (my husband was in the shower and that's how we discovered it lol!) The queen size room is good for 2 people only. I didn't find anything wrong with our room. For me, the ambience was very comforting and peaceful. We would hear people walking up and down the stairs but it's during the waking hours. Before I forget, they have a grab and go continental breakfast which had very good selections (juices, hard boiled eggs, apple muffins, granola and yogurt, etc.) Also, the location is pretty much in downtown Calistoga. There's so many places to grab a bite from. Our all-time favorite is Calistoga Inn & Brewery and we love getting our coffees at Sam's General Store. Lastly, there are a lot of great wineries nearby like Chateau Montelena. After our wine tasting we went back to our hotel and took a nap then headed out to our next wine tasting at LMR. My boyfriend booked a weekend here for my birthday so we could enjoy all the wine Napa has to offer. We got at the property around 2pm, there was enough parking and the check in was very fast. When we got to our room we were very disappointed, it was very very small, it barely fit a bed and an armchair, and it had a terrible smell. Within 10 min of us checking in, someone from maintenance knocked once and barged in to check on something. I don't know what he wanted to check cause he spoke no english and we got nowhere with our hand signs. Internet was very spotty, or it was for us as we had the furthest room from the reception. Breakfast was ok, some milk and cereal, yoghurt, hard boiled eggs, bagels, muffins and a warm dish: a ham and cheese pastry the first day and a broccoli quiche the second. Housekeeping was pretty bad, no one came over until 2pm and we had to ask at the reception to send someone. They didn't do a good job as they forgot a lot of trash. The toilet I believe was either really old or broken, cause it took 15 min (I am not even kidding) to fill up the bowl and due to the room being insanely small, we could hear the obnoxious noise coming from it. The location is pretty convenient, a few minutes walk from the main street with plenty of tasting rooms and restaurants. I am giving this place only 2 stars because it doesn't justify the high price per night. We wanted a romantic gate-away and we didn't have that, we were disturbed by someone as soon as we got in, the room size was a joke and smell was pretty bad even after airing it for a few hours. read more

Mold around the sink. There was no bottled water in the rooms for guests (whether free or to buy). Moreover there was not a small store to buy incidental or drinks.lobby was nice with a huge fireplace. With ants in the room I didn't want to eat their breakfast because I figured ants would be in other places throughout the hotel. Fireplaces, although nice, doesn't heat the room. This is an amazing hotel, which is manicured in every respect. Extremely clean, well decorated, quiet. The breakfast consisted in home made items besides the Oj and coffee available at a state of the art coffee machine. The yard is gorgeously maintained, trees well manicured and the front desk staff very polite and helpful. We definitely recommend it. The stay includes complimentary coffee, tea, fruit throughout the day, and a wonderful breakfast in the morning. We look forward to going back already. The rate is amazing.​ read more

We reserved the "Signature Queen" room. Our stay did not meet the expectations set by the hotel. Cons: We had a much smaller/narrower room than we anticipated from the pictures. We were staring at a concrete wall 2 feet away from our only windows. Our courtyard off the back of our room was only about 3 feet x 3 feet surrounded by concrete walls, not sure what you would do back there. We had ants crawling on the walls in the bathroom. Shower was a pretty cheap plastic corner setup. No refrigerator. Dirty skylight. Neutral/Expected: Our queen bed seemed decent. Gas fireplace did work. TV did work. Decent looking lobby. Pros: Not much of a pro, but parking was right in front of our room. read more

Excellent convenient location, walking distance to entertainment which is great for those of us who are planning to consume more than one alcoholic beverage! The room itself exceeded my expectations, nice size, super clean and very classy/elegant. Loved the B&B feel and private entrance with parking directly outside our room. We were prepared to not have the greatest breakfast due to Covid precautions which I think is great.. however look forward to a nice hot breakfast during future stays. The grab and go breakfast was actually really good and not just your typical.. high quality. Only negative comment which really wasn't a deal breaker is the front desk team upon arrival was not very friendly nor personable (A lady and young man) . They weren't rude just not friendly as all other business were during our visit. I highly recommend some customer service training be provided to the staff. Morning staff (Adriana) was very sweet and welcoming. I still highly recommend this place! read more

Not a good report for this hotel. I booked this hotel on Expedia with the insurance in case of emergency which I had. One day after taking the Pfizer vaccine and I was totally out of commission and called the hotel 2 days prior to arrival. I asked for a refund because I was driving over 400 miles! I have nothing nice to say about the manager we dealt with so I will just let readers know they don't care about guests as they proclaim. The hotel is located right on the main road, but not affected by any street noise (although our room was near the back of the hotel). The room was large and comfortable with a fireplace and jacuzzi tub. It had spacious high ceilings and was nicely decorated. It would have been nice to include some soaking salts or bubbles for the jacuzzi tub considering the premium on the room for it, but that's a very minor note. . The one issue was the bathroom - it was separated from the main room by only a curtain. The toilet was in a separate enclave with a sliding door, but the door didn't close fully, it stopped about an inch from the wall because of the molding along the floor. It was uncomfortably exposed, particularly on a romantic weekend. However everything else was great - the check in/out process was very smooth and the included breakfast was decent. read more

This is a cute bed and breakfast. The room was neat and comfortable. It was extremely small though. For $150 bucks a night I expected it to be slightly bigger. It looked bigger in the pictures when I booked it. But everything else was good. The bed was comfortable, they had left a bottle of water and a face/eye mask as a welcome gift. There is a fireplace that kept the room warm. The grab and go breakfast was nice. Their homemade granola was really impressive. The staff was polite. It's located in downtown and there were many good restaurants at stones throw distance. We enjoyed our stay there. read more

Cute little cozy hotel with a country feel. It felt like a small little cottage home and the hospitality was great. Their continental breakfast could've been better but at least they had one (7:00am - 10:00am). FYI- continental breakfast was pretty much (hard boiled eggs, fruits, coffee, pastries and one morning they had a quiche) I really appreciated their premium toiletries especially the L'occitane lotion, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. It was a great location in Calistoga right on the 29 hwy, which made it convenient going in and out and accessible to many great wineries such as Chateau Montelena and Castello di Amoroso. Positive note: They had a lot of channels on tv, wine glasses, wine opener, robes and the room was super cute and modern. If say this stay was comfy, clean and enjoyable overall. read more

I stayed here for my birtbday wk-end. The grounds are beautiful but the rooms felt cramped. The "spa" in the bathroom was an outdated jacuzzi. The patio in theroom was ok - no view & a tall fence. The people who run it are very sweet & they did a great job enforcing COVID protocol. read more

Lucy Lawless' hotel room, we stayed in her room, the bed she slept in and peed in the toilet she peed in! Okay I'll explain.. don't ever go to Napa Valley without a reservation on a Friday night. There's no room at the Inn! We went, we rang and rang and then we ended up having to drive up to Calistoga. A beautiful drive past acres of vineyards and the most incredible sights. Calistoga is much smaller, more rustic and a lot less refined than Napa, the accommodation available is mostly B&Bs and Spas. Unfortunately it seems to feel the same about ad-hoc visitors as Napa does. But we finally got a 'room' at Christopher's Inn - originally the price was $400 a night. Yeesh! An Adam Sandler movie was being filmed near there and our room was where cast member Lucy Lawless had been staying, but checked out unexpectedly. We got it for the bargain price of $300. The room was a suite like a little private cottage, with a living room decorated in beautiful flowery prints and stocked with a decanter of port... we're port drinkers now baby! We had our own private garden with a table and chairs, a bathroom with a deep set, 2-person jacuzzi tub and thick, fluffy towels and robes. Christopher's Inn is the kind of place you want your honeymoon to be, private, welcoming and charming. In the morning, I opened the door to find a basket stocked with breakfast - croissants, fruit with yoghurt, O.J and coffee. If you can afford it, Christopher's Inn is the place to stay - serene and luxurious. Put a bottle of bubbly in the champagne stand, take a romantic dip for two in the tub and then it's a teeny walk to the town for some wine tasting. read more

If you're germaphobic, don't come here. Christopher's Inn is located on the outskirts of Calistoga, it's pretty easy to find and has a private lot. They seem to have a 24 hour front desk since we checked in quite late. There was a reserved spot for our room right in front of it. I expected it to be a large Inn, but it was more similar to a outdoor hotel/apartment.We stayed in room 7. It was a little bit smaller than I had hoped for. There was no outdoor seating area as advertised, but just a little outdoor area which was like 4 feet by 5 feet? Not very big at all, we just ended up putting our bikes there. The walls had some stains on it as well as the ceiling so that was slightly unpleasant. I found a few bugs which made me not want to touch anything after that. The shower was also a little bit snug, but hey you get what you pay for and we only paid about $100, in comparison to other places in Napa Valley that's quite a deal. In the morning there was a really delicious Breakfast that you can either eat there or take it back to your room. It's basically a breakfast buffet. They served deviled eggs, fruit salad, bagels, apple strudels, and cereal.There is also an espresso machine that you can use as well. The staff are very friendly, and help you in operating it if its too difficult. Overall, it wasn't too shabby.. but they should really take care of those bugs. read more

Wanted to get away for the weekend and had a crazy difficult time finding a place that was available on a weekend in mid-August, granted with only a few days notice (that wasn't $$$$ or sketchy looking). Enter Calistoga's Christopher Inn. Somehow, in all the places that were booked all over the Greater Bay Area, this quaint spot had a vacancy! So it was process of elimination that brought us here, but it was the darling room and great location that might bring us back sometime! Check-in was fast, not overly friendly or informative, but certainly fine. Coffee and tea were available in the afternoon. A warning to tea drinkers though ... the tea tasted like coffee water, it seems to be heated up in the same container. On another afternoon, they had large, delicious chocolate cookies that looked like the same ones we saw in the bakery downtown. We were booked in Room 3, which I was a little concerned because it did face the street, and I read reviews about street noise. We could hear cars outside, but it never kept us from falling asleep or anything. I'm not sure I would've even thought twice about it if it wasn't for the reviews complaining about noise. The room is also on the second floor, which probably helps with street noise, too. The bonus you get with Room 3 is that, according to the map, it's the biggest room on the property except for the two specialty rooms in the main house. The spacious room had four windows with lovely green trees outside, a sitting area, fireplace (which we didn't use, it was summer), A/C that worked well, a partially vaulted ceiling, TV and various lighting options. The bed was comfortable, though both of us did wake up each morning with a sore back, but sleeping itself was not uncomfortable. Perhaps the mattress is just not very supportive. The bathroom had a nice skylight to provide natural light. It was little outdated looking, but still clean and roomy and great water pressure in the shower. Nice toiletries provided. The location is great, easily walkable to Lincoln Avenue, the main street in town. We also brought bikes and rode them to a couple wineries and around the Calistoga neighborhoods to see more on our visit. We only went to the Inn's breakfast one of our two mornings, but it was nice enough ... a selection of pastries, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, yogurt and fruit. One issue though was a ham-filled croissant -- because I am pescatarian and took a bite into it unknowingly. The problem would easily be solved by labeling it. Overall a very pleasant experience! My wife and I chose this property for our first time in Calistoga. We only did an overnight stay during the weekdays, but the following are some of the key observations from this place. Location *Situated at the end of Lincoln avenue, where a good amount of stores are to be found, we were able to walk roundtrip from the property to CalMart (Market & Deli) in 15 minutes. *Advice: if you are to select a room, I would suggest any room besides those that are next to the busy street. *Good amount of parking on site. Service *The staff was amazing & very friendly. *We were initially placed in their most basic room. The room that we selected was the same room info, but fireplace is outdoors. Front desk personnel working at the time of our check-in on 6/9/21 (4pm) got this sorted out right away and we switched rooms with no problem. I was even given the opportunity to check out the room ahead of time if we wanted to make sure we want to change or not. Room *We chose to upgrade from the basic room to the next level higher which came with an in-room fireplace (electric and easy to use). *The Basic room which we got a chance to see up to the time we switched rooms, was a bit cramped. The room with a fireplace is bigger, more spread out, bathroom is further away from the bed location than basic room and bathroom sink is inside the bathroom not outside. *DirectTV is used for TV entertainment. Most channels are available. *Bathroom had products from Loccitane brand which included hand soap, shower body gel, shampoo and conditioner. Overall, The Bergson is a place I'd recommend for first-time and regular customers. read more
