Had an amazing evening last night. I went to The Berry Tavern with my girl friend and her daughter. I had the blackened sword fish with linguini cooked to perfection. I came here for Easter. Spent a lot of money. I am a stroke survivor with very limited ability on my right side. I discreetly ask the waitress to have my filet mignon cut in the back kitchen before being brought to me. She said "really" and I said yes, and then I held up my limp right hand told her I could not cut it. When the food came out, my file was not cut and she said she didn't want it to dry out ,so she just figured someone at my table would cut it for me. I explain to her that if I wanted people to know my disability or cut up my food for me I would've asked them. Then everybody at my table and in the restaurant started staring at me. When I said you just embarrassed me she's snipped, I was only thinking of you and walked away. No one ever came over including Management to apologize. This has been the worst experience I've had since I had my stroke eight years ago. The waitress does not know better than me about what's best for my disability. I am very disappointed. I've had two great experiences here now, including tonight (fresh on my mind). This is most definitely a local pub for Danvers people...so they don't need this review. For me, the food is an everything. I can work through and around "staff". That being said, the Berry is fully staffed and there are plenty of friendly helpful staff members! The Tavern is in a downtown suburb, but there is plenty of free parking all around. Lot across the street. My understanding is they have expanded in recent years and now have two full bars and two large dining rooms, as well as a large outside dining area. I arrived around 5 on a Thursday and the place was already filling up and becoming lively. There were people of all ages from very small children, to couples, to elderly, to locals at the bar. By 6 o'clock when me and my friend ordered food from the bar, every table was filled and some were large round tables for 8 or more people. Now to the food. First time there I got two things off the appetizer menu. French onion soup and lamp lollipops. The lamb was perfect and came with a mint jelly sauce if you like that. (I don't). The French onion soup was ok. Filling. But not the best I've ever had. They could work on that. One friend got an eggplant parm appetizer and loved it. (It's his favorite dish). Next time will get the dinner version...other friends are not hard to please (if you know what I mean) and they loved the steak tips. Tonight, I ordered off the specials menu. It was one of the more expensive dishes, but well worth it! Shrimp and Scallop Rotini in a red vodka sauce. Perfect. They obviously have chefs back there working their craft, not just cooks. This might have been one of the best Italian dishes I've ever had (my mouth is watering right now while I write this review). And I have Italian heritage. Plenty of large scallops and shrimp perfectly textured, perfectly cooked. Excellent Al dente rotini. Sauce was amazing with just a small amount of spice, enough to feel a slight sweat. With aded texture with onions maybe capers and other spices. I felt like I was eating some clams and mussels in there but there wasn't. That might make the dish more expensive. But would be incredible. All about the food. 5 plus stars for the food.! I like beer and wine. Plenty of options there. Some of my friends like mixed fancy cocktails and they loved them. My sister was in from out of town and wanted to have a get together with family and friends. After narrowing down the potential choices, we decided to give The Berry Tavern a shot. There were 8 of us so I can't go into a ton of detail. We waited a short while outside while they prepared the table. The host and staff were very friendly. I and a couple of the party noticed that this could be a function hall for weddings the way it was set up. Just an odd observation. Four of the party ordered 2 pizzas to share. One was Victoria but I don't know the other. They all seemed happy and satisfied with the selection. Another had the Tavern Scallops and could only finish half. I can't remember what the other had. I went for the BBQ burger. The burger was well cooked and tasty. I was a little let down by the BBQ sauce. It looked like it was store bought and the flavor wasn't anything memorable. The only other oddity was that the person serving us supposedly left yet I could have sworn I saw her as we walked out the door later. Must have been a shift of some sort. The person taking her place seemed to disappear after he handed us the check and it took quite a while to settle up the bill. Not sure what happened. My favorite place in town! Not only great food but what a selection to pick from! Anything from a specialty pizza, Chicken Benevento, to a Fig or Caesar Salad, they are all amazing at Berry!! Service is impeccable! Fantastic waitresses!! Tammy and Kelly are extremely attentive. My favorite room is the main dining room with the tin ceiling. Love the ambiance!! At times, it's so busy, we sit in the other room which is much more quiet and has a baby grand piano. The food is amazing overall. Highly recommend!!!!! read more

My wife and I have been going to this place occasionally since it's open and never really had any issues with the food but we decided to get two large pizzas for takeout which we were told are only available as takeout and not a dine in So as usual, we always order pizza a little more cooked than normal so we said, could you make them a little crispy When we got them home, which is literally a three minute drive, we open the box anxiously expecting what we ordered and we got the most undercooked pizzas I have ever seen in my entire life The dough was very bland, and very floppy I wanted to bring them back, but we were so hungry. Beer list is fine. They had Fiddlehead, which is a very decent IPA. I wish they had a generally better list. My food was very mediocre. I had a "grilled fig and prosciutto salad" but there were only dehydrated figs and sliced prosciutto. Not fresh figs and nothing grilled. The dressing tasted like nothing. It was rather boring and not at all as advertised. My guest had a burger and fries and he said it was pretty good. Service was good. If. My second time in. Earlier in the week- hands down amazing. I simply had a beet salad w arugula and goat cheese. Best one yet. My anticipation was high to come back. I made an error in choosing tonight on one front. The fig salad was awesome. The truffle fries- very good. The Veal parmesan- not so much. I had to salt pepper my veal and pasta. Still not so good. We need at least some Calabria Chili's in here and less cinnamon. Punch up the garlic game big time. I will still try again because I really like this atmosphere and the owners are obviously awesome people. Requested a last minute accommodation for a group of 15 after a funeral on a Friday night. They were able to reserve two tables in the back for us and have it set up wonderfully for us. First visit to the Berry Tavern. Overall I liked the place but a few items left me not overly impressed. The drinks are STRONG - Don't get me wrong, nice to get a bang for your buck but they were overpowering and the Hot & Dirty was so light on the hot and dirty it tasted like a vodka martini with garnish. My husbands food was good but his steak tips were cold and over cooked, while the fries were piping hot. A bit mistimed on the plating I'd guess. My cabonara with penne was delicous but never did get the side of asparagas I ordered, though not a big issue as it didnt get put on the bill (guess she didn't hear me) They had a special of bacon wrapped scallops in a terriyaki glaze. They tasted like all beef hot dogs. (my husband agreed so it wasn't my taste being off) I'll give it another try but won't rush to get there. read more

this is a place my family comes to a lot. I decided to try a new dish, the benevento chicken. my family orders it a lot and tends to enjoy. The waitress recommended it as well. i know it was busy and a Saturday night but it took forever for us to get drinks, bread, silverware, our food, etc. when my food came, i had my family try it and we all agreed it was very bland. I was trading pieces of the chicken for their steak tips. I didnt touch the risotto or the last piece of chicken. I was just very hungry because we waited so long and I don't like to complain so I ate the vegetables and some of the chicken. We told the waitress just so they would be aware. when the owner talked to us about it, she was very rude. Instead of understanding that 5 people who order this regularly were telling her it wasn't seasoned or good, she said "I've served 45 dishes of these tonight and no one complained" as well as "most of it was eaten so it seemed like it was fine". This is just really poor customer service. as someone who doesn't like to complain, we were just trying to give feedback and were met with a very weird response from ownership. I expected a little bit better hospitality and understanding from a place like yours. read more

I'll concede that I see potential for having a better experience here so I'm giving it a generous 3 stats considering my first experience wasn't great. Started with a 15 min wait, despite there visibly being multiple open tables, one of them being the one we were eventually seated at. The folks at the front definitely seemed confused and disorganized. We were seated on the side of the restaurant that had a non-tavern vibe, just a plain looking dining room with no particular color, character, or theme. While plain and boring, there was a grand piano in there, but nobody playing it (odd for a Saturday evening). Some light jazz or classical might have redeemed the otherwise bland atmosphere. Unfortunately, there was a herd of rotund middle-aged ladies sitting at a large table, all apparently celebrating a grown woman's birthday and probably enjoying too many margaritas. Everyone else in the place was visibly annoyed by their obnoxious cackling. There was a folding divider panel thing near that space that could have possibly been pulled across to separate them from the rest of the restaurant, but it was not. To be fair, probably wouldn't have been tall enough to quiet down these hyenas sufficiently anyway, considering the bad acoustics of this simple box of a room. Maybe some piano music would have drowned them out. Was delighted to be offered bread after being finally seated. Unfortunately, it never came. Which is a shame given that we are big bread fans, but moreover, we skipped ordering an appetizer thinking bread could hold us over, and we ended up waiting a loooong time for our meals. Would have been nice if someone checked on our table as we could have used a refill of beverages considering the inordinately long wait for dinner (in spite of the restaurant being not even full). The food itself wasn't bad. My blackened swordfish atop risotto was hearty and tasty, was happy with that, even though it seemed like there should have been a vegetable included also with that sort of plate. My wife ordered a chicken pesto pizza. I tried some of it and we both agreed that it was a little bland - the pesto probably needed more basil, or maybe they just didn't put enough pesto on there. The other toppings were a bit sparse too. The crust was a good texture though. All that said, some of these problems are fixable so maybe I'll give it a second shot sometime, but will probably be a while. read more

This a local spot for us, walking distance to home which is great! On this visit we enjoyed late night apps and cocktails. On this busy Saturday night, our friendly hostess found us a table in a cozy corner! The bar was quit full and the tables were mostly full even at 9:00pm. The Berry has developed a reputation for a lively atmosphere and delicious (mostly Italian) food! Our server was tied up with other tables but she greeted us promptly and brought our waters. When our server returned we ordered our cocktails, Eagle Rare bourbon and my Dirty Martini with Tito's. Our drink arrived promptly! Berry Tavern does martinis right! I've always enjoyed my cocktails here; balanced and tasty! Our server, Deb bought along some fresh Italian bread. My husband bourbon was a generous pour as well. For dinner we had the Tavern Wings; roasted wings with caramelized onions! A hearty portion-we actually brought a couple home and along with the wings we shared The Tavern Salad; romaine, diced tomatoes, pancetta and blue cheese. This has been my favorite salad here forever, I've actually never had another salad here because I love this one so much! The wings were meaty and the pairing of the sweet onions were great! I finished the evening with an espresso martini, the sweet and creamy kind. It was delicious but next time I'll try a dark version which is generally my preference. When our server brought the check also brought the house-made, complimentary Limoncello-such a nice touch! Deb was friendly and attentive!
