Look, I don't care if you're vegan or a light eater or you live on the North Shore, anybody who reads this review needs to come to Weathervane for their prime rib dinner special on Thursdays. The cut is ridiculous (see pics) and the sides are tremendous and it's just so much food. SO MUCH FOOD. Sure, if it were just quantity, they'd have a following, but it's rare, lean yet tender and exquisitely seasoned. Unexpected! This is the neighborhood go to and it's wonderful. Great service, atmosphere, and food! Anytime I have friends visit we walk over for lunch or dinner and it never disappoints. Had a horrible experience tonight with the blonde haired old waitress We walked in an hour before close. We stood at the entrance for 5 minutes waiting to be seated. The older blonde haired waitress walked past us twice and didn't say a word. In fact, she glared at us because we were holding a baby in a car seat. After a few more minutes, she came back over to us. When she asked us how many and we said two, she said 'ugghhh well I don't have a high chair'. Mind you, we had a 5 month in a car seat and said a booth would be fine. She offered us a booth. The AC was on. I asked not to be somewhere where the AC was blowing. Her response was "well sit wherever you want then. I can't control that". As if she doesn't know her own restaurant and know where the AC vents are or cannot go to the thermostat and turn the temperature up a couple of degrees. Such a disgrace for a restaurant with great food and SOME people who care about customers (Mary). I went for the steak tips in hopes they were just as I remembered. They were. One waitress stands at the bar and stares at you as you eat. Went to Weathervane Tavern last night. It used to be one of our favorites, but we won't be back. Quality and cooking of food has gone downhill tremendously. We waited less that 10 minutes for a table which should have been our sign to leave, (we went at 6). They did tell us the kitchen was backed up and there would be a short delay. The short delay was way over an hour after we ordered our food. Hubby's salad was 3 tomatoes 2 cucumber slices a huge mass of onions and iceberg lettuce. Daughters came with carrots, celery tomatoes cucumbers and nice mix of lettuces and almost no iceburg. For my 3 yr grandson we got a cheeseburger with fries. Came without the fries. Sirloin steak was lower quality than you would find for $4 per pound. Onion soup just passable. This is the 3rd time we have tried and had same mediocre meals. What a nice surprise. Went in an afternoon and sat at the bar. We had stuffed clams which were lovely. I had blackened haddock with mash and veg. The fish was so fresh and the sides were very good. The veggies were cooked!! Not mush but not raw. Very pleased and will definitely return. read more

Not a lot of wiggle room here, if you have wheelchairs or folks who need a little more elbow room. It is a squeeze, from the entrance/waiting area and dining tables themselves. For us, it was cozy. For some, it may be too cozy with tables quite close together. Quick breakdown: The food - Good french onion soup, nice thick layer of cheese over the top. My mother got the soup and sandwich which was a tuna with avocado and bacon. She said the tuna was great, good big chunks of avocado and great for the price. Her only complaint was the bread needed to be toasted more. The drinks - Pretty good hut not as strong as they once were. Service - Friendly but she seemed overwhelmed by a nagging table of older women who kept changing their placed orders and complaining about drinks etc so wesat for quite a while waiting for her to take our check.. My family has been coming here since I was a baby. I'm 34 now. Anytime I'm visiting in the area I always make a trip over. The food is amazing, always well priced and this place holds a special place in my heart. Now as for the bad reviews don't believe a word of it. This is not a chain so the wait is long and it's worth it so be patient. The staff talk and not rush because that's what we do when we live in a small town. Learn to slow down and be kind. Wink wink. My mom and I went to this restaurant. We went around 4 PM on a Saturday so we were promptly seated. I got the lobster & scallop casserole - holy heck, GET THIS DISH. It is very fairly priced (under $20) and you get tons of delicious lobster meat and big juicy scallops, under a very delicious bread crumb mixture (and probably a stick of butter). Deeee-licious. Mom got shrimp, looked great. Note: -Side salads are very big and quite nice -Free refills on soda Waitress was polite, albeit.. how do I say this... the place seemed classy, the waitress was not. She seemed out of place at the restaurant, but she made good suggestions and kept our drinks full without us having to ask. So heck, I consider that good service. I have always liked the Weathervane, its a place you go to THAT DOESNT CHANGE like everything else in that horrible country.( I don't live in that country anymore ) . The food is always good , went there 34 years ago and have gone A LOT since then. It's small and intimate, very warm feeling place. I do however Have a small interruption in my praise. The man who owns it is very nice, very welcoming, however, he does like to talk, and talk and talk. coming to a table and asking if the food is good, and enjoy your meal is fine. however, I sat there one time ( more than once or twice ) And heard the man talk almost thru the customers dinner. I was facing the sitting guy, and i could see him getting frustrated, however him being the gentlemen he was, kept listening. What's funny, is there was a young guy at the reception desk. We sat close to it, and that kid, bless him, also wouldn't stop talking, this happened twice . .I was thinking, is this in the training ? As i said ...food... terriffic, atmosphere ...great, there clientele, also good people. Just let people enjoy their meal, the public goes out to forget their day at the office, spend it with their husband, wife, kids, whatever, or whatever the circumstance. I've given this review a few days, so I could cool off but truthfully, I'm still pretty disgusted and disappointed by the actions of the staff there. I came in for a take out order of a Chefs salad (no croutons due to gluten free) and a chicken finger dinner, to a total of $32. Ok, I get it, stuff is expensive. However, when I arrived home, I found the Chefs salad had croutons and my chicken fingers diner was missing the salad that was supposed to come with it, and my French fries and onion rings consisted of an ample number of fries, but a mere 4 onion rings. The chicken fingers were fine, heck 2 out of 4, that's 50%, and in school, that's an "F", not a good score. I tried calling, but no one was able, I guess, to answer the phone. So, the next evening I stopped in on my way home from work to inform them of the errors. What met me was nothing short of belligerent tones and words such as "I'm busy, what do you want me to do about it". I was dumbfounded, to say the least. I asked the waitress that had served me the night before if there was anyone else I should discuss this with. A white haired gentleman (and I use the word gentlemen very loosely), approached me and began shouting at me that everything was premeasured, and abruptly walked away. I turned and walked out, never to return again. I gave this place a lot of business, not to mention an $8 tip to that waitress the evening of my take out, as I know she was working hard, but that will definitely be the last one from my wallet.
