The owner was very knowledgeable and patient. Even though I didn't know what I was talking about, he didn't seem to judge. I picked a racquet and he had it strung up the next day. The store was very COVID conscious, everything had barriers between us, and when I asked to try a racquet grip out, the owner asked me to sanitize my hands before handling the racquet. After searching the web, I found Badminton Alley. They had the Yonex racquet (unstrung) that my daughter wanted. It's a very small store, right next to Wells Fargo. I bought my second racket here. They last long! Don't ever buy rackets from Bintang. Everyone I know who bought a racket there had to restring it. My first one was the nanoray for beginners. The strings are still in placed, still good in shape after 2 years! The staff at this place are nice and they do know their stuff. In addition, you play indoor and weather conditions won't affect you. However, when the time comes to pick a racket, you can easily get lost in hundreds of brands and types. For example, Yonex, the NO.1 in the badminton equipment business, has several lines and each line has ten/twenty different models. So, instead of ordering online, it's better to drop by a local store and try your swing with the help of the technicians. The technicians and owners of Badminton Alley are quite nice. They will recommend several rackets based on your budegt, skill level, play habbits, etc. We started playing with a cheap Wilson set from Big5 and later bought two better ones from Badminton Alley. The new rackets make the play a lot easier and more fun. The only pity is that as a common practice for the racket business, you cannot return the racket after you used it on the court. Came here a week ago to pick up a racket. I was browsing online for the longest time and was surprised that they still made the "Gosen" rackets. It was one of my high school rackets that I ended up selling. I ended up picking up the Gosen Ryoga Shiden for $224 (after tax, I have no idea) and got the string tension on the racket at 24lbs. The racket alone has a medium well balance for my style of play. I tested out the racket the next day at Bintang Badminton Academy in Milpitas and I'd say the racket has not let me down one bit. He told me I should go a full size up for badminton shoes, and indeed it did feel comfortable. Though when I wear them on the court, I feel so heavy and it's difficult to move. He is very money oriented. The shoe I bought was 3 year old. I also brought in a racquet I played with and asked him if he had similar racquet because I was looking to get a new one. He suggested a very hard racquet l. At the time, I didn't know the difference and injured my arm playing with this new racquet. This small badminton shop is awesome. I shop shuttles, rackets, and have rackets restring here quite often. The shop owner is very knowledgeable especially. I have talked to him several times on string and racket topic. It has weekly sales; I often check its website for good deals on feather shuttles. It is the only badminton shop in the bay area that still has Lin-Ning first generation rackets: N50, N55, N90. Yes, the owner stocks them up before Lin-Ning closed down their distribution in United States. In addition, the store still has some Yonex Armortec900P and Armortec900T. I work only 10 minutes of driving away. Therefore sometimes I drop my rackets for restring on the afternoon and pick them up 2 days later. The stringing service is beyond my expectation. I have never had broken string due to mishits. My strings only break when they are way worn out at the cross sections around the sweetspot. Or I cut it them after my racket strings have lost tension heavily (below 26lbs, my favorite string tension 26lbs to 28lbs), and I can no longer control the shots. String tension losing is a natural process of playing this racket sports. I write this review because I just want to share a good badminton shop with badminton enthusiasts. In addition, I would like to take this opportunity to clarify some low rating of this shop. _Regarding to Zee K.'s review: The shop had note on their door saying that they would close early at 5PM that week and also alerted the customer through their website. I knew this because I dropped several rackets for restring on the Sunday before that and checked their websites multiple times that week for shuttles on sales; my shuttle stock ran low. _Regarding to Isaac W.'s review: Yes, I have also purchased 2 tubes of AG-8. They clearly mentioned this on their website. I don't know if they had communicated to you during your purchase. I agree that batch was quite old. I tested 1 shuttle out and the feather was tattered after a 6 hits. However, I followed the website recommendation and steamed my shuttle tubes. I left them in my bag for two weeks. After that they worked very well during my practice sessions and casual games. Even though the leather around the cork was chipping away, my friends loved these shuttles more than their low end shuttles that they were using. _I cannot comment on the Black Knight 6650 shuttlecocks. However, I could offer some insights. Shuttles have speed ranging from 75 to 79 (slow to fast); 77 being moderate, use in countries at sea level with perfectly fine temperature. The speed is indicated on the top cap of the each tube. Different regions use different rating system, for example 70s, 50s, or even 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. The shop carries slow and fast ones. You might have the fast tube of shuttles. Nevertheless, you could always ask for speed you like to see if they have it in stock. _Regarding to G N.'s review: I think that most badminton players going this experience when they purchase their badminton racket during their beginning years. But being knowledgeable about badminton related items does not mean that they would always select the right rackets. For example, I have been playing badminton for many years. Even now, I still have some rackets sitting in my bag (not actively playing with them) because they don't fit my reference - stiff, solid, heavy head balance. I bought them based my extensive research, and many players gave very positive reviews on the rackets. When I played these rackets, I did not really feel them. In stead of selling them off, nevertheless, I keep them for playing light games and using them during warming-up sessions and for future purchase reference. _It's very hard to recommend badminton racket because each player uses different techniques to generate the strokes, has different taste on racket stiffness, or even loves or hates the paint job on the racket itself. I would recommend that players borrow their friends' rackets and play a mini single game to see how they like it. Otherwise they take risk being stuck with buying a racket that they don't like because generally, most badminton shops are small, and they don't have exchange/refund option on sales items. Go to this place only if you are knowledgeable about Badminton related items. I am new to the game and went there to see if they would suggest a good beginner racquet. They suggested a $50 racquet and I purchased it. I came home, did some research and found out that the one they sold me was the least preferred and the most under rated racket. The store had much better racquets at similar price range. I called them the next day to see if they can exchange it and they told me that all sales are final. I know I should have done some research before purchasing an item but I was also not expecting to be mislead. They noticed that I do not know much about racquets and sold me the least popular racquet, the one which otherwise would not have been sold. The owner (i think he's the owner) is really helpful and knowledge about almost his entire inventory. We came in asking for head light rackets or light rackets and he produced 2 or 3 within a minute. It also happens to be the only place that stocks ashaway strings, the strings are one of the best and for pretty cheap too. That plus their sales online which you can browse is great. Although the website could use a make over (I don't think its changed for 10 years), it works fine and isn't too confusing.
