This place used to be great but its been downhill lately. Ordered some soup and salads for delivery....easy enough. Delivery comes minus half the order because they only gave the Doordash driver one of the two bags. Called to let them know only to find out that our options are to come pick up the rest of the order or work it out on our own with Doordash.....WTF? Complete lack of accountability and customer service. Fortunately Panera is also nearby and they came thru as always!!! read more

I recommend making your own at home. They call themselves the Big Salad, well it's more of a side salad with Big Salad prices. I live in Grosse Pointe and 10 years in San Francisco. Great Concept!!! Staff is delightful. Store appears to be very sanitary. Good selection. Price seems high. HOWEVER If I had to have all that stuff in my own kitchen, it would cost a fortune & go bad long before I want to use again. That said, they made me choose what I want in my salad. OK. But staff "chopped" it until it turned to mush. I could not tell what I was eating. I will try it again. Salad for lunch or dinner is a great option. But, other than the full chicken breast, nothing ... lettuce, beats, garbonzo beans, artichokes ... nothing needs to be pulverized. Also, my small salad could have fed THREE people. Just me folks! What's now in my frige is a left over that will feed the disposal by Thursday. Give me less. Charge me less. Maybe I should drive to Wendy's on old 8 mile Road. read more

One of our favorite spots to hit in the GPW area. Quaint, clean, atmosphere with lots of salad, soup, and sandwich options. I usually score the pick a pair combo tuna sandwich and big baby salad with tomato basil soup and end up with a happy belly! Price is a little stiff but it's worth it. read more

This place is awful. The only reason I gave it two stars is the service is friendly. The dressings taste like bottled (which they are, I asked) and the lettuce isn't very fresh. They do not cater to vegans which really misses the mark for a salad place. No indications of which wraps or bread or soups or dressings contains animal products or added sugars. Just vegetarian and gluten free markings. They gave me 5x more greens than I could possibly chew and then a stingy amount of vegetables. No vegetable-based protein options such as tofu or tempeh. Quite a dull meal. A simple flyer or optional menu listing ingredients would be helpful to health-minded people or people with allergies or sensitivities etc. I won't bother to return. The Big Salad is a good fast food alternative, though it's still fast food. It can be a little pricey once you add meat but has good portions. The quality of ingredients can vary -- lovely lettuces, veggies, nuts, and legumes; okay dressings; over salted slightly spongy meats. The soups are hot and tasty. The service is fast and cheery. We are happy to have this place close by! read more

Not bad, but not the best ever. It's pretty expensive, but you do get a lot of food. First, I was disappointed with the chicken and dumpling soup. It was really bland. I had the baja salad which wasn't bad, but there was a lot of dressing and chicken on it but not much of the other toppings. The staff is pretty friendly. My friend and I ordered the EXACT same salad. They were prepared by two different employees. Upon completion our salads looked completely different. Mine was chopped into very tiny bits and looked like cole slaw. The owner was at the register and I commented that our salads looked completely different. He replied "Oh yeah that one is chopped a bit finer." You would think that the same menu item, regardless being made by two different employees, should look the same or somewhat similar. I am giving a one-star rating because my over-chopped salad tasted awful. It was one big mushy pile. Maybe the owner should have offered to make me a better salad? read more

The Big Salad by far has the freshest products I've ever had on a salad. Better than any restaurant or store I've had and even though the prices are a little above average, the product is superior and the roll they give with the salad comes warm out of the oven.....it is DELICIOUS! Very nice place inside and friendly people who work there. I go often and love the place! Give it a try! They have sandwiches, soups, and coffee too! Enjoy!!! The Big Salad is everything it claims to be and more. When I walked in, the ambiance had the feel of a real New York cafe. I have to admit, there are so many choices, I was a little intimidated, but the VERY friendly staff walked me through the whole process. You can either build your own salad or chose from one of their 10 entree salads. The entree salads all come as the BIG salad. If you build your own, you can choose from a Big Baby, Big or Bigger salad. I got the Big Baby salad for $5.99 and it was just the right amount of food. I would guess that 2 people could split the Big Salad. They have a plethora of toppings including vegetables, meats, and dry toppings. By the way, meats are an extra charge. I counted the number of dressings and they have 28! WOW. They have 4 different soups daily, I got the tomato basil, it was excellent. They gave me a nice piece of bread with my meal. Not an overall large piece either. After all, I am trying to eat healthier, a large piece of bread kind-of defeats the purpose. If you are a salad person, you will LOVE this place. read more

I have eaten here a lot and it's generally good. Today the salad was full of bruised and rotting romaine, the chicken was sparse (not anywhere near a cup (server thing) and it was pretty crummy. If you see the salad is bad, pull it out and get new. If youare out of chichek, quit trying to scrape an empty container---go get some! I give them 2 star!!! If not for the rude female employees working EVERYTIME I visit this location, you would definitely be 5 stars!!! So earlier this week my wife and I thought we found our new go to spot for a quick healthy lunch or dinner. It is now Saturday and this is now our third visit!! Despite the lackluster service we can't get enough of the salads, so today I find myself returning. Today I'm on my mission to pickup lunch for my mother-in-law, wife, and myself. I remember seeing something upon leaving on our last visit about The Big card a rewards program that most places offer these days... But I'll get to that later. After a short glance at the menu I'm greeted by a young lady coming out the back of the kitchen area who asked if I was ready to order. After seeing a smiling new face I was confident I was about to receive great service to go along with this epic salad I was about to throw together. But boy was I wrong! As soon as she heard I needed 3 salads, I could instantly see that I ruined her day! I guess since I inconvenienced her by ordering she figured she would do the same by preparing my salads at half speed. In doing so a line starts to form, and I can see and feel the intense glare coming from behind the counter. After a couple mins of her slowly chopping away at the first salad they are now slammed with customers. After about 5 more grueling mins of her chopping the other 2 salads it's now time to pay where she hands me off to the not so nice employee that helped me on my previous visit. Since this is now my 3rd visit and this order will be $30+, I figured here's the time to earn some points and ask about the program. WRONG! I was quickly shot down by her saying oh now it's an app download it. So I asked once i download it a home will this purchase go towards my rewards acct? She replies "i don't know" hopefully"! Really! Is that it? Instead of getting frustrated I head 6.5miles home to sit down and finally enjoy this salad, and to my surprise NO DRESSING!!! Something I feel that can't be substituted by pulling some Kraft ranch out the fridge. After completing this long winded review I guess I'll take a shot at hopefully redeeming these well deserved reward points! I am a person who is VERY hard to please (my poor husband!) The other day we were in the Grosse Pointe area visiting some friends. We were hungry and they recommended the Big Salad. I LOVE salads but usually cannot find a place that serves a good salad, UNTIL..... I came across the Big Salad. The place has a big city feel to it, which I love. It was extremely clean. Being our first visit, we were not quite sure how it all worked but the staff not only greeted us but was great in explaining how everything works. They have a TON of choices for vegetables, meats and a list of dressings go on-and-on. I tried the Balsamic and Basil dressing and my husband had the Mediterranean Dressing. The food was fresh, cold and the portion size was plenty. I will admit, that it can be a bit pricey but, hell, good food, especially vegetables, cost money. Have you been the the grocery store lately? If you are in the Grosse Pointes, I recommend this place highly. I cannot wait to go back and build a different salad and try some of their soups. My friends told me the tomato basil soup is like no other. read more
