Stopped in this restaurant today. I have been searching for a decent salad shop and I think I found one here. I had the club salad which was phenomenal with this tangy ranch dressing they have. I also had the broccoli cheddar soup which was really great and filling. The service was on point. Nobody was really in the restaurant when I came in so my order was prepared really fast. It is a small little sandwich/salad shop in Grosse Pointe area. There is indoor seating. I think it would be even better if they had outdoor seating in the front. Yum! We ordered catering through ezcater and everything was so fresh and delivered right on time by very friendly delivery folks. We had a variety of things - the antipasto salad, salad bar with grilled chicken, and a few of their mini sandwiches. The bread threw me for a loop - they look like little ciabatta, but are actually soft, moist and crumbly with a little sweetness - like an oatmeal bread. Good, just not what I expected. The antipasto was great - lots of fresh meats and cheeses, and the yellow peppers they use are very tasty - not too sour or bitter like some can be. The salad greens and various ingredients were perfectly fresh and delicious, and the dressings are homemade, even the ranch. 2 thumbs up, and we'll definitely order more often - their prices are very fair. read more

I stopped in here as I was just going for a walk And killing sometime before my event began later that night. I just happened to try the soup the Broccoli and cheese which is good, nothing special but good. The salads seem to be a bit pricey if you order a la Cart. Looks like the best option would be to order one of the pre planned or signature salads. The service was just ok but place looked pretty clean and looked to have fresh ingredients. Went here for the first time after hearing my co-worker rave about the place for the last couple of weeks. Walked in and noticed it was packed so I knew we were probably off to a good start. I had already ordered my sandwich before I saw them really making the salads.. The huge variety of toppings and completed salads look awesome.. You tell them what you want to add to your salad and they load it all up in a large metal bowl. After all your toppings are added. They then chop it all up and put it in a smaller (but fully packed) bowl. Ended up ordering an Italian Sandwich.. It was pretty good.. The place is a bit pricy but I still like the concept of the place.. Next time I'm in there, I will definitely try the salad out.. read more

An amazingly fresh place to eat. Everything is out in the open, and viewable. You can see what is being added to your food and you can customize ANY sandwich, salad, or wrap! The pick-a-pair is great for the indecisive person. I personally like to turn their salads into a humongous wrap. I LOVE the Alaskan King as a wrap. My boyfriend and I frequent this location because I live in Grosse Pointe. It's actually the only location that I have been to. We love coming here. It's really the only time we see each other eating veggies haha. I always order the tomato basil soup (and sometimes a romaine big baby salad) and he always gets a romaine big baby salad. The ingredients are always fresh and delicious. There are a lot of positive things about this place. The service is always good and it is always clean. They just switched from a normal pop machine to one that has organic pop in it or pure cane sugar pop! Very cool! The dressings and their caloric information are all posted right on the glass that you look through to see the ingredients. For how delicious the food is, I think it's perfectly worth paying a little bit extra compared to if we would have gone somewhere else for lunch. read more

I want this place to rock, but it simply doesn't. The large salad option is a big salad of boring stuff. I think they have a great array of dressings, but none of their dressings have any flare or kick to them. I had this salad that wants to be so good, but it was boring and I felt like I had to choke it down. I can make a salad with more flare than this chopped up wannabe something special salad any day of the week. I can assemble a more tasty salad at the salad bar at Westborn market or have a chopped salad made at Holiday market that tastes better than the salad I had made at this place. This eatery is just really first class. It is VERY worth paying the extra few $ for fresh ingredients. I have been coming here somewhat regularly for the past several years & it is run very well. The only issue at times might be the younger ones who work there that just don't care (you can tell). My advice to manager...show your employees these reviews - let them decide if they want to take pride in themselves & do a nice job. It ALWAYS pays to be cordial, polite & thorough. After seeing this place under construction for several weeks before they opened I dreamed it would be a place that would offer delicious salads, a nice alternative to sandwich shops and fast food. All of them were fantastic, but maybe a little dressing-heavy for my taste. I'll probably get it on the side from now on. I want to try one of their sandwiches, but a new salad calls my name every time I walk in. I know it seems cliche to describe the food at a salad joint as "fresh," but that's really the first adjective that comes to mind. Every ingredient has been top-notch. That's saying something for an establishment that carries 30-some salad toppings to choose from. Each salad comes with a warm roll as well. I adore The Big Salad... I have never had lunch/dinner IN at this location, but each and every time we carry out, it's been impressive to say the least. The salads are HUGE and I'm a big fan of the Baja- I always get my dressing on the side- and I order extra. It's just THAT good!! The ingredients are always super fresh- and the lettuce doesn't taste bagged at all. It is a tad pricey, but if you see the bowl size (which doesnt seem overly large) and then empty it- it's a HUGE salad, plenty of leftovers. I love this place but the standards have slipped and I'm not sure why. I found a huge long hair in my salad and it makes no sense that you would allow employees to work around food with their hair out this shows is standard of not caring about cleanliness as a result I don't think I'll ever be able to eat here again and it's too bad because I do like this place. I had some big expectations after reading other reviews and was super excited to try. The menu is up on the wall and they have salads. Sandwiches, soup, and other items. The staff was friendly and it's the only reason why I'm giving it two stars instead of one. I ended up getting a Cobb salad and chicken tortilla soup. The moment I saw them grab avocado from a prepackaged vacuum sealed bag I started to get worried. Next she grabbed a whole boiled egg, some tomatoes that looked a little to ripe, lettuce, and a bunch of bacon and turkey. While everything was going in the bowl I was wondering how she was going to cut the egg and avocado. She basically pulled out what looked like a pizza cutter and started to mash my salad ...... I was just in shock I have never seen that before. After she was done she mixed in the dressing and dumped it onto of a plate. I was in the mood for some chili so I tried ordering that and basically the only soup they had left was chicken tortilla soup. So I ended up ordering a cup and wasn't to thrilled about the cost of it. I began eating my salad was immediately dissatisfied with the taste. The avocado tasted bland and old. The tomatoes were on the border of being rotten. The soup wasn't much better. Super salty and such a small amount for the price. I love the Big Salad on Mack Ave. First, the staff there is very friendly and seem to be happy to be there. It's clean, they play nice jazz, and they have a couple tables out front. On to the food: I haven't tried all their salads, but their sandwiches are excellent and their chicken noodle soup is some of the best I've had.
