The Bistro has been in downtown Hayward for years! They have live bands on certain nights which is great! They are a cash only bar, but don't fret as they do have an ATM inside. Their beer selection changes as they bring in new bears to try. In my most recent visit I saw they now offer charcuterie boards as a snack as they also have a wine list to choose from. They have plenty of seating inside as well as an outdoor patio to enjoy in a nice day or if you want to bring your dog. The staff is always nice every time I decide to stop in. During SF beer week in February they also have the Double IPA festival where they have over 100 breweries and you can sample their beers for a free. It's a very nice festival to have here in Hayward. If you want some chill vibes, check them out!

Came to the bistro to see a friend's band play. It's a pretty straightforward bar - good beers, good music, a good time. My friend was playing on a Tuesday evening and the bar wasn't crowded. We were served our beers immediately. One thing to note: this bar is CASH ONLY. They do have an ATM but just be prepared. Lots of familiar beers and a lot of variety too. There's something for everyone. They have a small food menu though I didn't order anything so not much for me to say there. The bar is pretty small so I could see how it'd be crowded on the weekends. They also have an outdoor patio which would probably help a lot and be comfortable to hang out on in the summer. Seems like a cool bar to grab a beer at if you're in the area!

My friend and I stopped by to listen to New Shoes Blues Band and thought it was perfect. They had an awesome local tap list as well as a broad range of cans. The seating was comfy, and you could easily appreciate the music without it being too overwhelming both inside and outside. Note it is cash only.

This review is strictly based on the ambiance; I came to see Monday Cafe perform. Didn't orde anything to drink. Street parking available; also located near the garage which is free. Venue is small and intimate. Would return.

Excellent service! Great ambiance I haven't been here in years still a great place to have a beer and hear live music! The bar tender Vito was great!! I had fieldwork pulp ipa and it was great!!!

It was a packed house inside!

Live music and brews! What more could a girl ask for? Diamonds?! Maybe... but I'm going to just settle for this instead. After practically being kicked out of the Stein Lounge by a tweak head (she was seriously tweaking), we decided to continue the party at the Bistro! This place literally can't be missed! The amazing loud music will reel you in even if you're just walking down the street. Not to mention, it's FREE and it's great entertainment! But what will also keep you there is their amazing beer selection! They highly support Beer Camp beer here which is a wonderful brand of beer, but you will also find a few common stragglers such as Faction Brewing and Sierra Nevada. I started off with the crisp Ginger Lager by Beer Camp which was smooth as ice and well balanced. Finished out the night with the most delectable creamy beer also by Beer Camp called Raspberry Sundae! If you like creamy sour beers, you MUST try their Raspberry Sundae! It's so amazingly yummy! Not sure if this is rotating, but get it while it lasts! This is something that I would purchase in a growler to take home if I could. Just that tasty! My friends and I were entranced by the wonderful performance of Day Labor that night! They kept everyone entertained and even started a mini mosh pit which was quite fun to watch! There aren't many seats available inside, so you'll be subjected to standing room only. Think of it as a mini concert where everyone stands around to enjoy the show. It's really not that bad if you think about it. Everyone is really focused on the awesome performances that lie ahead. If you really want to sit down, they have a beautiful outdoor seating area that looks gorgey during the day time. Bartenders were whippin' em out like pure magic! Everyone here was truly enjoying tbemselves! It's truly a change of pace amongst all of the other bars on B street. Definitely worth a visit if you like great live music and tasty beer!

We stopped here on a recent early evening to watch a World Cup game. It was our first time here,…read moreand we're glad we decided to go somewhere different. The Fish & Chips are the best I've had in the city! Not greasy at all and simply delightful. They also have a solid selection of beers on tap; I enjoyed a Deschutes IPA and a Guinness. A lot of people were ordering Old Speckled Hen, which I want to try next time--I've never heard of that beer and it seems quite popular. The menu features all the hits of a British pub. I want to try their Shepherd's Pie next time, and my husband wants to get the bangers and mash. He was hoping they had a scotch egg, but that's the one item not on the menu. Oh, and some sticky toffee pudding would be awesome! The only downside was a large party of eight people with screaming children. We can't seem to escape that in restaurants lately--even in a pub. Ugh, it was terrible and sadly put a damper on an otherwise delightful experience. Chuck E. Cheese energy is not the vibe. Despite that, we will be back.

I'm currently living in San Francisco for six weeks while caring for my father, who is recovering from a double lung transplant at UCSF. It's been an emotionally exhausting time, and I was excited to find a neighborhood bar within walking distance where I could occasionally relax and decompress. I first discovered this bar after a trip to Trader Joe's. During that visit, the bartenders, especially Chris, and the rest of the staff were welcoming, friendly, attentive, and wonderful. Based on that experience, I was looking forward to returning. Unfortunately, my interactions with the owner have been the complete opposite. On my second visit, the owner repeatedly ignored me while I was trying to order. When he noticed my service dog, who was leashed, quietly sitting beside me, and causing absolutely no disruption, he loudly yelled across a crowded bar, "Get your dog out of here." I calmly explained that he is a service dog. The owner immediately rolled his eyes and demanded to know what service my dog provides. Because I did not feel comfortable disclosing personal medical information to a room full of strangers, I asked if I could privately show documentation instead. He became increasingly hostile, telling me that he "knew his rights" and that I "didn't know anything," while continuing to demand an explanation. Feeling embarrassed and cornered, I reluctantly answered his question. He rolled his eyes again and asked, "What do you want?" When I ordered a Corona, he responded by pointing his finger in my face and saying, "You mean you want a Corona PLEASE." He refused to serve me unless I repeated the order exactly as he demanded. I was shocked, humiliated, and left the bar in tears. Several patrons nearby apologized to me and expressed how uncomfortable they were witnessing the interaction. A few days later, I decided to give the bar a second chance and brought my partner with me. My partner was seated with my service dog while I walked to the bar to order. The owner immediately recognized me and once again said, "Get your dog out." I calmly reminded him that we had already had this conversation and that I had previously explained my dog's service role. He responded by asking whether I was providing a service to the dog or whether the dog was providing a service to me. After I again explained the situation, he asked what I wanted to order. I ordered two dirty gin martinis, and before I could even finish speaking, he began walking away. When he returned with the check, I asked him to keep the tab open. He again corrected me and said I needed to say, "Keep it open PLEASE." At that point, I asked why he seemed to treat me this way every time I came in. His response was, "Piss off. Finish your martini and you're never allowed back here again. Get out." Once again, I left in tears. Once again, nearby patrons appeared shocked by the way I was being treated. I've worked in professional environments my entire career and strive to treat everyone with kindness, patience, and respect. I was never rude, disruptive, or confrontational. I simply wanted to enjoy a drink at a neighborhood bar while accompanied by my service dog. The bartenders and staff were wonderful. My experience with the owner, however, was one of the most humiliating and hostile customer service experiences I have ever had.

Every dish was beautifully plated but, more importantly, actually delicious. You can tell there's real attention to detail in every course. The highlights for us were the perfectly cooked beef dish with the rich sauce and potato gratin, the risotto, the strawberry tart dessert, and honestly the bread service alone deserves recognition. Even the little sweets at the end felt special. Great wine selection too, which made it perfect for an anniversary dinner. Service was polished, attentive, and professional without feeling overly formal or uncomfortable. The only downside was the reservation/seating situation. We weren't able to get reservations and ended up seated outside on a pretty cold evening. Thankfully the heaters helped a lot, so it was still comfortable, but it did feel a little odd seeing the dining room only about half full while outdoor guests stayed outside. Also worth mentioning: this place is definitely pricey. Not somewhere we'd casually stop into on a random Tuesday. But for a special occasion like an anniversary, the overall experience, atmosphere, presentation, and quality made it feel worth it. We'd absolutely come back again -- just with reservations next time.

I got the beef pastie and it was a nice comfort food on a cool foggy Half Moon Bay evening. The beef and peas were well seasoned, the pastry was nice, and the gravy was tasty. From the very beginning, the customer service was lacking. Before finalizing my event, I visited the venue in person to ask questions and get a better understanding of the space. The Hispanic male employee I interacted with was unfriendly, unapproachable, and unable or unwilling to answer even basic questions, repeatedly telling me to contact sales. While I understand that sales handles bookings, I expected someone who works at the venue to be able to provide some level of assistance or information. Unfortunately, his attitude remained the same during the event. Several things that had been requested were not set up as discussed, and the overall atmosphere felt unwelcoming. What upset me most was that some of my guests arrived carrying water bottles, and this employee openly told me, in front of my guests, that he would kick us out if he sees outside drinks again. I found this incredibly embarrassing, unprofessional, and completely inappropriate. The experience became so uncomfortable that many of my guests left early. For what was supposed to be a special occasion, the service and treatment we received fell far below expectations. Considering the amount spent, I expected professionalism, hospitality, and a welcoming environment. Unfortunately, we received the opposite. I would not host another event here, nor would I recommend this venue to others looking for a place to celebrate an important occasion.

A must-visit place for anyone living in the area (4/5 Green Stars)…read moreBring cash! That's the first rule of Schmidt's Pub. Maybe it's the only rule! I've been coming here a bit more regularly, lately - more visits in the last year compared to the previous decade, in fact. Now I wonder what I was waiting for. According to the East Bay Express, Schmidt's Pub is "basically your living room, but better" - that does sum it up, except that very few of us have living rooms anything like this, with a cozy fireplace surrounded by comfy armchairs and rustic tables beside sunny windows. Not many of us have living rooms with Old Speckled Hen on tap, or populated with an entertaining parade of quirky folk and friendly dogs. If the people and dogs are not entertaining enough then pick up a copy of Calvin and Hobbes or A History of Clay Pipes (okay, I made that one up) and have a little retreat with a pint. 4/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, based on these factors: * Beer on tap (transported in reusable kegs) has a much lower footprint compared to bottles or cans. * Allows you to bring your own food, which is good for folk like vegans who are often more comfortable with BYO. * The snacks available at the counter could be a bit more Berkeley (or Albany)! They were mostly from big corps - Lays chips (PepsiCo) and chocolate bars from Mars. Would be nice to see a more imaginative/ethical selection. * A great community space with an inclusive atmosphere. Schmidt's is home to many groups (e.g., knitting) and provides a second family for many, some who send postcards from their trips! * Finally, we shouldn't underestimate the importance of having a place to slow down, reflect and connect with each other a little. In that respect, Schmidt's Pub is worth its weight in gold.
