You order at the counter, take a number, and they bring out your food. Very friendly staff. All the food we ordered was delicious. My Seared Ahi Tuna salad was fresh and great portion. The tuna was perfectly seared and love the dressing. The Ahi Tacos were yummy as well. They were well flavored and not dried. We had a cup of clam chowder and dare I say it was as good as SF. If we're ever in the area again, we would definitely come back.

You take a menu and sit anywhere then go up to the counter when you're ready to order. The staff are extremely friendly and checked on us more than once as well as gave us a rundown of how everything worked. I had the ribeye steak tacos and I thought they were delicious. The steak was tender and well cooked, the avocado was fresh and the salsa was very flavorful with just the right amount of heat. My wife had the blackened tofu tacos and wasn't as thrilled as I was. She found them a little bit bland even with the peanut sauce and didn't understand putting cabbage on something that's already lettuce wrapped. Overall it was still a good experience and I'd definitely stop in again if I'm in the area.

How had I Not heard about this place before?…read more I'm a local, I've lived in Paso for almost 10 years and only recently discovered this hidden gem. If you're visiting Paso Robles and enjoy organic teas this is your place. They also serve a light lunch and of course worderful hot and cold teas. If you're in Paso Robles (likely for wine tasting) MAKE sure to stop by this place as well.

6 Star Alert. 6 star Alert. 6 star Alert. 6 star Alert…read more SIX STAR ALERT. SIX STAR ALERT. That right people, I said it.... And 6 times to be exact! Because let me tell you, the Spice of Life in Downtown Paso Robles not only deserves those 6 stars, but they truly EARNED each & every star (plus a bonus star) that I am awarding them for their exceptional hospitality. Now, let me tell you why! While in Paso for my wife's weekend birthday getaway, we had such fun time casually strolling the streets with no where to be. While window shopping, going in and out of the various shops, and just meandering through the downtown area.... We suddenly came across a little business called: The Spice of Life From the outside, it was pretty obvious what we were about to get into... ----Spices----Herbs----Teas---- Hey, they had me at Spices, but the rest is what kept me from leaving there anytime soon. Upon entering this quaint little shop, we were immediately immersed into a world that I Love. Spices, Spices and more Spices!!! Yeah, I'm that guy that at home, not in public of course, that will put a little spice on my hand and lick it off (to test it of course). I know, but I'm just a spice freak, what can I say! Yeah, give me a good lemon pepper, a blended steak seasoning or even a Kansas City Bbq Rub and I'll gladly give it the "Lance Lick of Approval". Yeah, I'm a Spice Man, & I'm not afraid to admit it. And let me tell you, this place has got spices!! Yeah, there are Jars and Jars, & more Jars of the finest, most incredible spices you can dream of. But on Top of the Spices... There are Oils, Vinegars, Teas, Tea Accessories, Herbal Supplements, Books, and More! And with all that shopping... Why not grab a quick bite alongside a freshly brewed coffee or tea at their mini cafe right on the premises. Heck, we did! (We had the Vanilla Chai Tea Latte) And it was Fire! So what makes this place earn a well deserved 6 star review?? It wasn't just their great product. Or even their beautifully prepared drink. It was their hospitality, their graciousness, and the human connection that we felt that went above the typical customer vs. retailer interaction. The lady who assisted us (forgive me but I forget her name) but she might have been maybe the owner or maybe even manager of the place was so kind, helpful and made our experience exceptional, so thank you for that! With so many great gift ideas and things that we needed for our own household, you know we did some damage and got a few things to take back home. So.... If you are a fan of spices like me, love yourself some tea, are looking for some unique, fun gift ideas or just want to enjoy a nice, quaint shop where the service hopefully exceeds your expectations like it did for me... Then take my highly recommended suggestion and get over to the... Spice of Life in Downtown Paso Robles ASAP!!!

Fun atmosphere and good food!…read more Stopped here for a quick drink and bite to eat before heading back to the hotel for the night. The town was hosting live music at the plaza across the street so we sat outside facing the plaza. It was a great way to enjoy our meal! The place was pretty packed because of the World Cup going on (Mexico vs Korea) so I understand why our server was a bit slow. She was handling tables inside and outside but keep in mind when it gets busy you may wait a bit longer for things. I ordered "The Steak" which is a hangar steak with a compound butter on top and Brussels sprouts on the side, I subbed potatoes for coleslaw. The steak was cooked nicely and had a great crust on the outside, very flavorful with just the right amount of saltiness. The Brussels were some of the best I've had even though they were so simple. I ate every last one! The slaw was ok but not a ton of flavor, it was pretty light on the sauce. We also got an order of bacon wrapped jalapeños with cilantro ranch. They were so good! We destroyed them in seconds while burning our tongues on the lava-like cheese. Worth it!

November 2025 Since…read moreI gave such a stellar review of the Bacon Crusted Burger at Street Side Ale House, I must update the comments since people do go to restaurants based on other's reviews. And I am so embarrassed to have recommended this restaurant to dozens of people. We raved to our friends about this place and this burger in particular. So, when we traveled with them to Paso Robles this week, we took them there on Thursday night. We passed on having the Wagyu 8 oz. burger and fries at In Bloom (Michelin listed) the night before in anticipation of this burger. Service was abysmal. We sat for quite some time with no service. My wife went in and asked where our server was? Finally, a woman showed up and said our waiter would be with us shortly. Sometime later, a friendly waiter arrived. He was obviously new, under-trained, and spread too thin. He was very personable, but our drinks sat on the bar for a long time and my wife had to go in and ask if she could take then. "No, the waiter will bring them out." Meanwhile, our friends were sipping on their drinks. We got our appetizers and then ordered our meals. The food came quickly, maybe too quickly, and I noticed no egg yolk oozing out (it was halved for us in the kitchen) and the burger overall was much thinner than the last time and the arugula was so wet under the patty. So, we ate a couple bites of it and it just did not taste right. I opened it up to find a baked or boiled grey patty with no crispy bacon wrapping. The bacon was soft, I mean boiled soft and was a small lump on top of the burger patty, not even close to crispy. More like a damp towel. The avocado was sliced but not spread out, so stuck on the left side. The egg was hard cooked with a solid yolk. No pepper to be found. I showed the waiter who was stunned. He thought we were kidding. The manger came out, looked at it, asked what we wanted to do. I was a bit surprised given the wreck that this burger was and said I don't know, what do you want to do? He said the chef wasn't there but took the plate back to the kitchen. He came back and said the chef (wait, he wasn't there) was surprised and said it was not right. The chef (if he was there) should have headed straight out to us and apologized. So, the manager took the burger off the bill but left the same horrible burger ($22) on our friend's bill. I should not have to tell a manager how to fix such a mess and disaster of a meal and service. I hope they fix their kitchen, whoever is checking food at the pass, and the service or they will be another casualty to the restaurant business in Paso. Sorry I had to write this as I rarely post negative reviews in order to not hurt a business and their employees.

It's definitely nothing fancy, which is exactly the way we like it. There's plenty of parking and the young lady taking our order was incredibly friendly. We split the BLTA along with some salt and vinegar chips. The sandwich was delicious! Nothing special but everything was so fresh and flavorful, and the bacon was delicious as was the soft tender bread that it was made on. 10 out of 10 for us we would definitely be back. There is no indoor seating just outdoor patio seating which was ample and on hot days it has fans to cool you down. Looking forward to our next visit. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of the sandwich so you'll just have to take my word for it.

Road tripping and in Paso Robles, CA…read more We wanted breakfast. So we did some internet sleuthing and saw the Red Scooter Deli. So off we went. We ended up at the Red Scoot location on 6th. They have two locations which we found out later. Initially we were headed to the one in downtown. This location on 6th Street is in a retail suburban type of shopping plaza. Plenty of parking. This location has no indoor seating, it's all outdoor patio which is covered. Basic patio, not alot of character or ambiance. But so much potential. As I was sitting enjoying my food; I noticed a lot of folks taking their orders to go and many picking up catering. It's counter service and not particularly roomy inside with folks standing in line and others moving about can get crowded. We ordered a plain toasted bagel with roasted red pepper schmear. They are generous with the spread. Nice! Lactose intolerant me just popped a pill and indulged. And we also ordered a breakfast sandwich on croissant with bacon. Yum. That croissant wasn't flimsy but also not too dense either. The sandwich was picture prefect. Next time I'm in Paso, I'll give their downtown locale a go.
