I am appalled by this national chain's customer-service policies. We had a very good showroom experience in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, for a prom-tux fitting. The tux arrived--and the sleeve measurements were wrong (something we were careful about during the fitting). They provide no mechanism for fixes. There is no customer-service contact beyond unstaffed email accounts and a backed-up national phone number (local shops do not answer the phone). I finally learned over the phone that the company provides no fixes or tailoring at local show rooms, so if a kid needs a fix, it must be handled at a local tailor shop (not easy for rural or suburban dwellers) and they reimburse a mere $15 off the total, which is generally in excess of $300. This company rips off kids and their families. It is shameful. read more

I accompanied my friend's fiancé to get his tuxedo for his wedding. They used this place because the bride got a ton of targeted ads about it on instagram and they were attracted to the offer of getting a certain number of groomsmen tuxedos, they would get a discount on the purchase of the groom's tuxedo which he was very interested in. The selection was okay but there were not too many customization options available. If you wanted any adjustments or tailoring, you'd have to purchase the tuxedo and get it tailored elsewhere. Additionally, their measurement requirements were difficult to navigate (like for the older men/fathers of the bride and groom) and almost forced them to go in person to the store or to a tailor for this information. You needed exact measurements to get the correct size for something, there wasn't really a solution. Her brother needed to return a few parts of the tux because of all of this, which was inconvenient. The bride did say that throughout this ordeal, the company's phone customer service (not the store location) was very helpful. In store, the employee that helped us didn't seem super knowledgeable or interested in assisting the groom with customization questions. She kind of just kept saying that he looked good and then just brought out whatever he asked for. I had to be the pushy one and say that the shirt was too big, the pants looked weird, etc. for him to get a look that actually fit him and looked good while keeping to his "vision" (but I guess that's why the bride sent me with him LOL). At checkout, they were trying to sell wedding rings from another company they had recently acquired. While I understand that cross-promotion can be a business strategy, it just felt like a lot. People planning a wedding are under a lot of stress, so I can see where they can get taken advantage of here. read more

I was very pleased with the ease of use of the website, and initially very pleased with the suit that I ordered. However, the suit fell apart at a wedding through normal use. This was very disappointing and embarrassing, and I expected much better from a $350 suit. The biggest problem I have is that when I tried to get a replacement for the pants, I was told that it's impossible for me to receive a replacement or refund of any kind since I had ordered the suit more than 60 days in advance of the wedding. I figured a replacement or refund was the least they could do when their pants fell apart on me the first time I wore them, but somehow their abysmal support policies do not even cover that. That being said, we made our second visit today and had Lauren. She is simply amazing, personable and really connects with people well. She surely made up for the first mediocre trial. They duplicated the groom's order, so we got charged double. Then they refunded and cancelled the duplicate order. We got the notification that our order is about to ship and I noticed the apartment number was missing. We called up and told them - all good. A week after everyone else's suits arrived, we started getting nervous. Turns out the entire order got cancelled despite us getting charged. We called up customer service - she was very helpful and overnighted it. The package arrived and the shirt is missing! The wedding is 1 week away and I'm just furious. This is completely unacceptable that they doubled the order, cancelled the order, then omitted a key item... for the GROOM! Update: they didn't send a shirt because they ran out of the color we ordered. So instead of calling to ask what our second choice in color was or just sending a plain white one, they felt the best move was to send no shirt at all. The incompetence is unreal. read more

dealing with the black tux with a headache from start to finish. I am writing this review also on behalf of my husband who was beyond frustrated in their quality and service. The initial fitting at the soho store went well enough, although we were disappointed to find out after we had decided on his attire and his groomsmen attire that the bowtie color we picked out was out of stock. my husband only had three groomsmen, and each one of them had issues with the tuxedos they received. One tux fit so badly that it looked like he was never measured in the first place, the sleeves hung down and completely covered his hands, so he had to take it to a tailor to get it fixed. his tux also arrived unclean and unchecked as he found a dirty mask and wadded up tissues in the pockets. By the time the second groomsmen received his tuxedo he realized too late that the shirt had a large hole in the back, so for our wedding he had to wear his own shirt since it is all but impossible to reach someone who works here over the phone or by email. and lastly the third groomsmen was informed literally a week before our wedding that they did not have his pants in his size whatsoever, he was then told to choose another style of pants. As for my husband's tux it arrived pretty disheveled with the bowtie scrunched up and wrinkled, I tried to call the store to get a new one but fun fact; you literally can't reach the Soho store by phone. the number listed is i guess their company line that will just keep ringing until you lose hope. in short, if you like the idea of the ease of renting a tux, look elsewhere. read more

Its the tux I was told by my sister I'm supposed to wear to her wedding so I'm stuck with it but got its it tacky, cheap, and looks gawdy. In her defense I don't think she even thought this aspect over once, and just wanted the men in the direct family to match. I've worn 10+ tuxes and this one is by far the worst. The process seems smooth but overall im pretty mad that I have to pay $250 to have this tacky thing that cost $20 to make made in Indonesia so I can wear it for a day. I had recently posted a review on the store experience which was good as Zane was knowledgeable of the fashions and took my husband's measurements correctly. HOWEVER, we were told we would have the suit in 3 days. First, not true, takes about a week. Husband tried suit on and definitely too tight in the but, sleeves were tight when trying to hug me and shoulders puffed up and made him look like a hunchback. He called and they shipped another suit and everything was the same. Called and was told not to return to store but to fedex and it would take up to 15 days to get our money back. As it depends on when FedEx returns it to warehouse. I have no confidence in FedEx either do why wouldn't I have a refund as soon as box is scanned at FedEx showing the return. Argued with rep about until he said I could take a picture of the return receipt and email it to them. Of course this was after spending a good length of time going back and forth with them and what an inconvenience not to mention, I still need to go somewhere else for a suit due to their incompetence. Had a so so experience ordering my tux from here. The staff was very friendly taking my sizes and letting me try the outfits. I also didn't bring any socks with me so they gave me socks and let me keep it. It was frustrating trying to pay for my order at the store. They don't have a credit card machine for you to swipe. They make you order it online. The website kept giving me an error when I put in my credit card information. They insisted it was my credit card and I got the same message with another credit card. They then told me to call my bank because it's the credit card company rejecting my purchase. I called my bank and they told me that my card has been approving my purchase. So I called black tux again to explain the situation. Again they told me it's the credit card not approving my purchase. I explained again and they finally manually put in my credit card information over the phone and they admitted that it was an issue with the website. I feel like this entire payment issue was avoidable. read more

I had back-to-back BAD experiences with Black Tux (I got married in June 2024 and my brother in July 2024). Let's start with my wedding: I saw on the website that you can remove any items you already own at checkout, so that if someone already owns a shirt / socks / suspenders, they don't have to spend extra money on them. This turned out to be FALSE and created massive problems (see other wedding below). Several of my groomsmen had to spend $50+ extra on items they already owned. Their customer service is difficult to get ahold of and told me a lot of information that conflicted with their website and what other agents had told me. Otherwise, the tuxedos arrived on time and nobody had to request a replacement, so it worked out in the end. My experience for my brother's wedding was MUCH worse. I got the invitation email, scheduled an appointment, and went in to get fitted. Once I got there, I asked about removing certain items that I already owned and she said "we don't do that". After telling her what the customer support agents had told me, i.e. that I already owned several items (button-down shirt, socks, suspenders, bowtie) and could remove them at checkout, she said something along the lines of "ok we CAN do it, but we're not supposed to". I said okay, whatever, if I have to pay extra it's whatever. The fitting went pretty poorly, which I never even thought would be an issue. None of the shirts they gave me were even remotely close to fitting, and I ended up just going with one that didn't fit at all, knowing I had one at home that fits from my own wedding. The pants didn't fit either and they ended up just ordering a size that they didn't have in-store but they assured me would fit. Again, whatever because I knew I had a pair of tux pants at home as a backup. Same story for the jacket. I finally go to checkout and I see the measurements that she put in: 36R jacket (usually I'm a 38R or 40R) and 34x30 pants (I'm a 30x32). I brought these concerns up and again she assured me they would be fine. Then we go to remove the items I already have - and she ends up DELETING me from the wedding entirely! I had to call the groom from the store and explain that he needed to re-add me to the event before I could checkout - but he was unable to so I had to create an entirely new account with a different email so he could add me back. After all of that, I still had to pay for all of the items, including $75+ of items I already owned and was told I'd be able to remove all this time. Fast forward, the box gets delivered. The shirt made me look like the Michelin man and wasn't even close to fitting and the jacket was too tight. Requested a replacement jacket the same day and they said it would show up in 1-2 days. 4 days later, the box is stuck at the post office - apparently it was sent to the wrong post office - and they tell me they have no idea when it will make it to me. This is 24 hours until I leave for the wedding weekend, so I had to get on the phone with another agent, explain the situation, and get a new one shipped to the location of the wedding. Thankfully that one came on time and fit much better, like I told the fitting lady. Day after the wedding, I returned everything in the original box, including the replacement jacket that they sent me. A couple weeks after the wedding, a get an email (for the second account of course) saying that they have not received my items and I will be charged $200+ next week. Truly the cherry on top of a shitty experience. Will be disputing the transaction if they decide to charge me and hopefully never have to go through them again! read more

I am a groomsman for an upcoming wedding that rented tuxes from here and dealing with The Black Tux has been a nightmare. Although the suit arrived 14 days before the event as promised, the jacket was at least 2 sizes too big. I contacted them via email immediately and never heard back. I followed up by phone twice, and spent 1.5 hours on hold each time. The first time, I was told to wait a couple more days to see if a smaller size came in stock or else I could choose a different style (not much of a fit guarantee). When no one followed up with me, I called again and was told they had a negative inventory of my size so I had to go a further size down. As of this writing, the wedding is 3 days away and the jacket has not even shipped. I followed up a third time, waiting 2.5 hours, only to find out that my replacement request was cancelled because they ran out of inventory. Would anyone have ever told me if I didn't follow up? Probably not. Further, although the jacket's shell is a wool, the inside is polyester which makes the jacket pretty heavy in the summer. read more

No worries, went online and they made it easy to switch out sizes, although they charged me $40 to expedite shipping. Received an immediate email that it would be shipped out the next day. Then, received an email that it would arrive in 3 days, which is past when I'd be traveling to the wedding. Called and got a call center in India who could not resolve the issue. My fiancé and I really wanted to love the Black Tux, but unfortunately I cannot recommend it. My fiancé is now scrambling to find a tux less than a month before our wedding and we are not sure tuxes will arrive for our bridal party. We visited the store a little over a month ago and my fiancé was fitted for a tux. Angie was great and patient while helping him find the perfect tux. My fiance bought his tux and our bridal party ordered tuxes to rent. Some of my fiance's tux arrived, but he was missing the jacket, shirt, pants, and studs. After a week of missing those pieces, my fiancé reached out to them via phone (don't bother, the general number doesn't work now) and email. It took days for them to get back to him saying it was sold out and wont arrived until after our wedding. The offered a jacket two sizes too big and didn't say anything about the other pieces. After weeks of emailing (only way to get any help!) the best they can do is have him buy (not rent, it's unavailable!) another tux he doesn't even want. This best discount the could offer is $20 off for each member of our bridal party (which I doubt they can even use, since they've already rented their tuxes). Look, I get it's the pandemic and they are probably understaffed and low on stock. But better communication and customer service could have rectified this issue and not left us scrambling for a tux the last minute. Fingers crossed our groomsmen receive their tuxes (and in the right sizes after reading some of the other reviews!) or we'll be having the same issue with them in the next two weeks! read more

Terrible fit, wrinkled clothes, and uncomfortable garments I'm a groomsman at a wedding, and the lucky couple (or their wedding planner) picked here for the rental I filled out their quiz in June, and received the first tux in the mail about a week ago. The fit was ridiculous: the jacket was way too long, the shirt was super baggy, the shoes felt like clown shoes, and the pants were way too long and too wide. This is frustrating, but not unexpected: you have to fill out a quiz about your body shape, but they don't actually ask your suit dimensions Ok, so I ask for a refit. A week later, the refit shows up. The pants and shirt fit (you're allowed to actually choose a size in the refit menu, and i know my size), but the shoes are painfully tight, everything is incredibly wrinkled, and the jacket is an absurd joke. When asking for the refit, I measured how much the sleeves were too long, and put in exactly what needed to change. What I got doesn't match this measurement at all. Do not choose this place. Pick somewhere that knows how to rent a tux and take a measurement. read more

Rented a tux for my brothers wedding. 10 minutes after we got to the event and started taking pictures the button fell off and I was the only groomsman that didn't have his tux on correctly for the entire event. Not only that but the bow tie that came with it instantly came undone when putting it on. And no, I don't know how to tie a bow tie, not many people do so I had to freak out and buy one last minute also making me late. Also got a call like other reviews I have read canceling my firing appointment 10 or so days before the event which was crazy stressful as I had to resend the shirt and just hope the replacement was right. This was my fourth tuxedo rental actually third tuxedo rental and one suit rental from the black tux company. My measurements have not changed since the beginning. I ordered a tuxedo for an event from the website on my account page with my previously inputted sizes little did I know that my sizes had been changed. It was my fault for not checking my size and trying on before the event and that's why I will not ask for a refund however due to the Inconvenience that this caused me and the fact that I was not able to wear a tux for this wedding will prevent me from ever using this company again. Also I ordered patent leather shoes and was sent plain leather shoes. On the website I changed to patent leather shoes and again they sent me another pair of leather shoes. read more

Let me explain why 4 stars instead of 5: Their sizing can be limited where they don't have half sizes and don't have multiple sleeve lengths for each collar size. The sizing can be unclear where a sleeve length 32 looks like a 33 on the website because they apparently don't have a separate label for it but with a 14" collar, a 33 is actually a 32 You place your order from a laptop at the showroom and it looks exactly like what you could have submitted from home. Unclear where to submit the additional information that you decided on since coming in like getting sleeves taken in an inch, or pants, etc. Overall, 5 star service + 3.5 star products = 4 stars read more

I went with group of groomsman and a groom went to get fitted. I don't know what went wrong, but none of us had had a complete suit with all parts fitting. I had to get two replacement parts myself, the groom was never sent his shirt because it wasn't in stock and no notification was sent to inform him of this, just an incomplete tux. I triple checked that all the pieces were in the box when returning and I got an email that the belt was not inside and. I would be charged for the missing piece. Customer service only reiterated the claim and I was charged. Save yourself the trouble and go elsewhere for a tuxedo that doesn't look like it's been stored in a shoebox. I've been in 7 weddings, and this was the first using The Black Tux. Overall, I was happy with the process that I went through. I visited their store to have my sizes taken and try on the shoes. Everything fit easily. I could have had my measurements sent to them, but the concern of them not being correct led me to just go and have them do it. I suspect it might be a bit nerve wracking if you don't live/work near a shop. I received the box of goods a few days before the wedding, and everything fit perfectly. I liked the quality of the suit, and would rank it a bit higher than just a regular rented suit from comparable places. Returning the box was easy as well, but I did have to find a FedEx drop location. I wish the purchase options were more clear. It seems to depend on how many times the suit has been rented, and the email summary wasn't clear if the amount already paid would count towards the prices, but it seems the amount paid did not count. I didn't end up buying my suit, but mainly because I have one in the same color. I'd likely recommend this place to someone whose entire wedding party is nearby, in case of last minute errors or needs to change. read more

Dealing with the black tux has been a nightmare! I'm supposed to be enjoying the planning process of my wedding and instead I'm stressing out because of the black tux. The tuxedo my fiancée wants to rent is sold out but he has had it in his look room online for weeks. He's been waiting on the groomsmen to get fitted and order their suits( as he was advised to do by worker there). Instead of communicating that the suit is low in stock or sending an email that it was sold out we are finding out now. They do not have many other suits or tuxedos to offer so now At this point it's ruined everything. I would never recommend this place to anyone! Feeling a little scammed- walked in today 6/9 to get a tux for an event at the end of the month on 6/28. You need to schedule a fitting appointment, which is ok, but because the appointment is two weeks to the day of the event, they want to add a "rush" fee- just can't see myself paying extra because business is doing so well for them. So be it- they clearly don't need mine. Clearly this business doesn't have much value for your time and effort based upon their response- even if you made the trip to the store well ahead of their two week window, they will still try and gouge a "rush" fee from you and make no attempt to accommodate you to avoid that fee. I used the Black Tux for my wedding for my groomsmen and our fathers. Our wedding was less formal so we decided to rent suits. One thing to note is that they will fit you in a tux as they don't carry suits at their locations. Groomsmen experience: They received their suits early and each of them had issues with sizing. Some had time to get their updates made, others just dealt with it at the wedding. My experience: I received my suit weeks after my wedding party did. The first pair of pants I ordered were way too short so I ordered a slightly longer replacement. The replacement came MUCH longer and way baggier. I decided to go to an actual tailor. The tailor told me both the jacket and pants would require substantial tailoring (which obviously their $15 credit would not cover). At that point, I was fed up with the Black Tux and bought a new suit a few days before my wedding. Something I wish I did from the get go to eliminate the unnecessary added stress days before my wedding. Overall, they could be good if you do not need any additional alterations. If you do, the budget they give you in the time frame is enough to cause last minute stress. The customer service was good and they did refund the items I did not use for my wedding, but I would be weary of using them. read more

I had to change sizes twice and all suits were extremely threadbare and wrinkled. Surprised such a plasticky material could even get wrinkled. The shirt was too large and even then it was so rough it chaffed my neck in the 5 minutes I wore it before going and buying one. I really loved The Black Tux so much! I had no interest in purchasing a tux for my wedding. The amount of waste involved in a one-time outfit seemed ridiculous to me. I went to The Black Tux, got fitted, got complimented on how great I looked, and was even steered away from making a fashion faux paux that might have made my bride run away. The suite was then tailored to my exact half-size. I looked good and I felt good. I received and returned my suit in a prelabeled, easy-to-ship box. It literally couldn't have been easier or a better experience. They even had accessories and shoes for rent that made them an affordable, one-stop-shop. They even offered me the option to purchase the tux at a discounted rate if I wanted it! The only thing I was confused about (but not complaining about) was they sent me an extra tux jacket and vest, but these were a size Medium, which I have never been in my life. They came in a second box but were addressed to me, and I never learned the purpose of them since I had no hope of fitting in them. Luckily, all the other items that I picked out and paid for came in a bigger box (cause I'm a pretty big guy; I'm tall and fat, in case others are searching Yelp for these terms). Aside from this weirdness, I had a stellar experience and although I don't plan on getting married again, I will definitely go back to The Black Tux for my suit and tuxedo rental needs. The material is horrible and your customer service department is horrible. When I explained this to them the solution was "we can send you another, that will arrive on the day of the wedding". I would highly discourage anyone from using this company for an event. The tux came VERY wrinkled and their tags urging you to "hang them up" and saying the wrinkles will fall naturally is completely bogus. I spent 2 hours steaming all of the items that were stuffed into a box by someone with no regard for keeping them somewhat neat. Wrinkles aside, the tux is extremely poor quality and shed like a german shepherd. This made it very difficult to manage pictures as we were constantly trying to pick the shedding off of everyone. One groomsman's shirt arrived ripped among a plethera of other reasons. You can buy a better quality tux for what this company charged for a rental. No value for alot of $$$$ read more

This review isn't so much for the location as it is the service. I initially attempted to book an appointment online; they were booked over 2 months out. I live nearby and decided to just walk in, and upon doing so was given an appointment for the following afternoon. The employee who helped me was very friendly and obviously pulled some strings to get me an appointment. First impressions were great! The next day I arrived for my fitting and was next to a large party (maybe half a dozen) that were all getting fitted. I was given my own dressing room but was otherwise forgotten/left to my own devices - the first suit I tried on was ill-fitting, and the large party had the majority of the inventory in their dressing room, so my measurements were taken by another employee and my order was placed. I was leaving for an event on the following Friday, and was promised a suit for the following Monday - it arrived Wednesday. The suit that arrived - with the measurements taken in store - looked like a new age version of the puffy shirt outfit from Seinfeld. I tried it on for my girlfriend and she practically cried laughing. This one fit even worse than the one I tried on in the store! We were due to leave for our event on that Friday (2 days after the suit arrived). I quickly went back to TBT store (3rd time now) and explained the situation. The employees - again, VERY helpful and VERY kind - took new measurements once again and did their best to contact the Los Angeles location in order to overnight the new suit, which would cost me $40 (even though it was their mistake). The young lady at the counter kindly gave me a $20 off coupon code to use towards the fee. I received a phone call later that afternoon that the suit would NOT make it on time, and canceled the order. I returned the ill-fitted suit to the store and they very graciously mailed it back for me! Again - the employees should be rated 5 stars; the service from the company itself is 2! Then I went and bought a suit from Topman ($430) and to be honest, it is just as nice (if not nicer!) than anything I tried on at TBT. This morning I received an email saying they HAD shipped the new suit - which I did NOT authorize!!! - and the $40 fee has been charged to my credit card (again, unauthorized). THE WORST SERVICE! Would not recommend to my worst enemy. 1) Sizes are not true and inconsistent. Two groomsmen ordered same exact size and fit, but when same person tried on, the fits were terribly different. Makes ordering to the correct size an impossible task 2) they dont want the right size to come the first time... they want to charge you 40$ to have items express shipped. 3) they dont include a number of items in original order, then charge for new ones to be sent. They also try to charge for not sending back the originally undelivered items. 4) hours of hold time on phone to get through to an agent 5) They only gave us 2 days after the wedding to return the tux. What a pleasure! The tux itself was simple and classic and fit exactly right; the shirt and tie were perfect too, and the shoes, which turned out to be new, fit perfectly as well. The cummerbund seemed cheap, with a broken clasp, but it didn't matter, and I won't get one next time. The fitting was painless and efficient. The box arrived on time.
