Really enjoyed going to this place. It's hard to find a nice relaxing hip place to drink around here but the Blue Door had that. I'm usually more of a beer drinker but tried their cocktails since that's what most people recommended. I had a chocolate martini that was delish! It was just like having a desert in your mouth. I had their signature drink called Paloma which was also very good. Lastly I had a tequila sunrise which was good except I could hardly taste the tequila. The crowd there is great, met some very nice friendly guys by the bar who were there on a work trip. I didn't give it 5 stars because it was hard sometimes to get the bartenders attention when I wanted to order another drink. Other than it is a great place to get your drank on. read more

Clean, cool, fun bar despite its boring location in a strip mall. The waitresses are pretty and quick (despite the frequent crowds) and the bartenders are knowledgable about a plethora of drinks. I have been living in the area for 8 months and finally made an eagerly anticipated trip to The Blue Door. Maybe I expected too much but the visit was a huge disappointment and I won't be returning. Decor: It starts out great with the charming blue door but once instead the charm ended. It's like they started out with a nice ceiling, beautiful light fixtures and then ran out of money or inspiration. The walls are decorated with only these beige fabric panels that look like you find in an office cubicle and would pin a phone list onto. The tables are completely unadorned and all situated to cram as many in a large open space with no sense of intimacy or ambiance. There are three large tv screens showing sports. And loud rock music from the 70's playing. Is this place a sports bar, classy bar, old speakeasy? Not sure what it was trying to be but it succeeds nowhere. Drinks: We ordered a Beatnik and the Aloe drink (forget the exact name). The drinks tasted very good. But the huge problem with the aloe one was that the glass was completely filled with shaved ice and literally 2 drops of drink-one drop of which spilled over the side when it was served. I literally finished this drink in one sip. That's all I can really say as I simply didn't get a drink to taste. For $8. Service: Our server acted distant and uninterested. The lengthiest part of our interaction was when he explained their policy for requiring a credit card upfront. Apparently their clientele is known for skipping out on bills. Luckily I didn't want another drink because he was nowhere to be found. Just absolutely poor service. I so wanted to like this place and it was a huge letdown. Ugh. read more

I've been in Midland for over a year and I finally made my way to The Blue Door. It's a conveniently located area right off the loop near Jason's Deli and Brew Street. It's open pretty late and the atmosphere is pretty chill. There is outdoor and indoor seating. I think outdoor is more spacious and the music isn't overwhelmingly loud so you can hear conversation. Inside is like a lounge, there are two islands in the center where you can stand and mingle. Surrounding the perimeter are some tables and chairs. It isn't much seating but it's enough to get nice and close to who you came with. The bar is open and it doesn't have too much seating either, probably a little over ten seats. The drink menu is super cute. There are plenty of cocktails for those cocktail lovers. They're on the pricey side and not much portion wise but what else do you expect? I got the cucumber gimlet and it was super refreshing with a slice of cucumber on the rim. There is happy hour available which is always a good thing! I would definitely come back for a night with my girlfriends! read more

Really outstanding place. They have all the best whiskey. Good and dark. I like a dark cozy bar. Good funky classic rock playing like Seger etc. Enough tv's with the games on so you can keep up but it's not the focal point - just there lingering if you want. Dylan has done a PHENOMENAL job of making this place not feel like the Basin. The patio is enclosed and helps make the setting feel more intimate, and the interior of the bar is just spacious enough, but the drinks are what sells. There are always new house specials on the menu, with quite a few of them being completely unique as far as I can tell. I hate the hipstery pretentious bs with a lot of these "craft" bars, but they make the drinks that back it up. The Ranch Water is delicious. The Ms. had a drink last time that had aloe liqueur in it, and we were pleasantly shocked at how it tasted. Great bar all around. read more

This place is awesome! They have a rotating beer selection that is carefully selected by someone with a very sophisticated palate, if beer is your thing. I recommend going to The Blue Door for the cocktails. For happy hour they have $5 old fashions that are mixed plenty strong and with Makers Mark as their well whiskey. I called out a rather obscure cocktail to test the bartender, a pisco sour, and they delivered. They even have a special device to whip up the raw egg white that makes this drink so darn delicious. Everything there is on point. No food, but there is a place right next door that you can get take out and bring in with you. Outdoor seating area if you are feeling it. The atmosphere is great and the service was fantastic. Love this place! If you want cocktails, this is the only place to go. read more

Fantastic Drink menu and drinks... Where they get the food from next door is a little overpriced and not that great. Vibe was nice but it did concern me there was a man at the table across from us he was clearly under the influence of something or drank way too much. He kept falling asleep in his chair and when he would wake up he was slurring horribly and kind of yelling and the wait staff and bartenders continued to serve this man. It wasn't my problem but I couldn't help but wonder if he drove that night. read more

My friends and I love Blue Door! It is an upscale place, so prices are a little high, but that keeps the place classy. It has a great atmosphere and the bartenders know what they are doing! They do have happy hour specials and bar snacks too. My fav is the Vieux Carre and the Moscow Mule. They do have a ton of beer son tap and a wine selection as well. I stumbled upon this place while visiting my boyfriend's family in Midland. After hearing about all the stabbings and fights happening in Odessa and nearby, I was very happy to find a bar full of young, hip people. I felt as if I had been transported home, to one of the cool adult bars in Houston. The drinks are pricey, but they are equally strong and the waitstaff is attentive and happy to explain the menu and make suggestions for you. Try the blind pig if you want to shoot almost straight whiskey. I recommend this bar for people looking for a chill bar full of young, good looking people. read more

Probably the only bar of it's kind in Midland. The drinks are good and cold and the rotating menu generally provides me with a new cocktail I'd love to try but the bartenders still know the basics, even if the waitresses sometimes don't. I've only ever had one drink I didn't like, and even it was at least interesting. The crowd often trends pretty young as the night wears on, and it gets very noise. The patio is often the loudest as the music coupled with the closed in walls tend to create an echo. The management is very amenable to turning down the music if you ask nicely though, which is a huge plus in my opinion. To be honest, the drinks seem a little pricey at times. Though since this is the only cocktail bar in town they have no competition at all. But I'll gladly pay for real cocktails and a nice ambiance. read more

I'm not originally from midland, nor am I originally from Texas. The longer I love here the more I realize there truly is not a whole lot to do around here. But this place is a good time. Whether you're looking to meet new people or whether your looking to go out with new people (or even old friends) this is definitely the place to go. This bar is well put together! This place is the best. Friendly staff, great regulars, amazing drinks. Next time you stop by order a Small Frye and say hi to Will. He's the GM (that stands for Greatest Manager). If you are lucky they will still have some of that Pappy laying around (it won't be on the menu so ask). Oh and if you like your nuts hot, come in at happy hour and they will heat your nuts for free... if nuts aren't your thing, girls night is Thursday, and you can have $5 wine by the glass and the Moscow Mules come by the pitcher!
