The bakery is very cute and the service is friendly. But these pastries and bread left a lot to be desired. Oddly, all the pastries came out of the case cold - I didn't realize until I brought them home but they were ice cold, like they'd been sitting in a fridge. As a result, the flakey apple turnover was cold and dense. No flakiness at all. The Parisian baguette was dense and cold, almost stale tasting. No crispness whatsoever. Bought 2 almond horns over a year ago. In the past they were moist and delicious. These were dry and hard and disappointing. Like biscotti. Gave them another chance last week and bought 2 more. I asked if they were fresh and staff there said made that morning. And again they were hard and dry. Very disappointing considering what they charge. read more

I was very disappointed when I went to Blue Duck in Greenport. It was a Sunday morning when one would expect fresh bakery goods. I bought a few pastries including a flakey apple turnover and an Almond Horn, to name a few. I was expecting the pastries be very fresh on a Sunday morning but to my disappointment they just came out of the refrigerator! My question is when - were these pastries baked. This is an amazing bakery! The cinnamon roll was the best I ever had. The bread is fresh with natural ingredients.

This is the location were they bake on location. If you drive thru the narrow street next to the building there is parking in the back. You could also peek into the industrial looking building to see the actual baking go on. A previous reviewer made an odd comment that it's ugly. Well you know its freshly made and the baking fairy didn't deliver the bread. This ain't Manhattan where nothing is made and everything is delivered to stores from who knows where. Best blueberry turnover I ever ate. Nice selection of cookies. We tried the oatmeal/cranberry and the ginger snaps.

They have the best croissants and nut danish! All of them are good but the plain croissant you can just taste the butter it is so delicious! I also enjoyed their lace cookies and blueberry turnover. The turnover was the perfect combination, not to sweet but tasted perfect! The staff their is also very nice! We got pies, bread, pastries and cookies over three visits while staying in the area. Everything was first rate. The fresh baked loaves were magnificent with local cheese, and with a splash of butter and Jam. The pie was sweet, the crust toothsome. The cookies are old fashioned fun, especially the mixed Italian ones. It's difficult to find a good bakery on Long Island's north fork but this multi location spot in Greenport is one of them. Nice, cozy little bakery that stays open pretty late in the summer, until 8:00. They have a good selection of baked goods such as pastries, breads, cakes and cookies. They have coffee as well. Tried their signature blue duck cookie and it was very good and not too sweet. The eclair was very good as well and the mini cheese cakes are creamy and delicious. Prices are a bit excessive, $17 for a tiny banana cream pie and we paid over $25 for a couple cookies and mini pastries but the quality makes up for it. The staff was friendly as well. I've recently heard a lot about the Blue Duck Bakery Cafe from several friends and had the wonderful opportunity to meet some members of the family at the Lenz Winery Farmer's Market last week. I've never been to the bakery nor have I ever seen it, which surprised me as I'm on the NoFo quite often. I now know where it is and plan on being a regular... Here's what went down for the carb debauchery (you all KNOW I love carbs, especially sweet carbs): Sweet Carbs: + Linzer Tart. It's one of my favorite types of cookies and usually is a good measure of how good a bakery is. Blue Duck's linzer tart was the way it should be, the cookie was extremely flaky, the top had a nice even layer of confectioner's sugar and the filling was a nice "not overly sweet" berry-esque filling which to me was tasted like it was comprised mostly of raspberries. Thankfully, there's wasn't overly seed-y as many other linzer tarts I've had end up being extremely seed-y and it becomes annoying to eat as the little raspberry seeds are stuck in your teeth! + Raspberry Rugulach. When I first moved to LI back in '92, there used to be a bakery called "Cheese N Stuff" in Setauket that made the best rugulach I've ever had in my life. It's also what probably contributed to me being a chubby growing boy...anyhow, Blue Duck's Raspberry rugulach was damn good. It was flaky yet "creamy" (YES folks, rugulach if done correctly, should have an extremely flaky almost creamy sensation to it) and the filling was very good. My only critique on this was that I prefer a much heaver sugar+cinnamon topping and it was a bit light on the topping LOL. I LOVE SWEET THINGS! :) + Crispy Apple Turnover. My father loved apple turnovers and so I was grandfathered in to loving them too. They had 2 types, shortbread and flaky. I opted for the flaky version and boy was it fantastic...If I remember correctly, it had icing on top which was oh so sweet, the apple filling inside was chunky, smooth, and sweet but not TOO sweet. It was done quite well and it was flaky, the way they should be. Non-Sweet Carbs: + Ciabatta. Thanks to Ina Garten, I've become a huge fan of ciabattas and Blue Duck's was right on point. The shape was long, wide and had the proper height and irregular shape that I like for ciabattas. I usually don't like when they look like they've come off the Pepperide Farm factory line...artisan breads should have a little bit of a rustic/irregular look and feel to them. The inside wasn't overly doughy and was awesome with my homemade rosemary olive oil, lava salt and black pepper. I ate all of this in 5-10 minutes, ALL IN ONE SITTING, and went on my merry way. I highly recommend Blue Duck as it's the best bakery I've been to recently and certainly is the best bakery on the East end of Long Island. On a side note, I also came here to disspell rumors from 3-4 people that I know, who've told me that Blue Duck uses frozen dough for their bread and that it isn't made fresh. I know my carbs folks and as far as I can tell, their bread is made from fresh dough daily and in fact was confirmed by me based on the taste of the bread. Frozen dough has a distinct characteristic to it with the staleness/flatness that you get upon baking it...I've also confirmed with the bakery owners that this indeed is NOT true! Here's a no-frills bakery that doesn't care to create every single kind of cookie and cake heard of. What you'll find here is a slightly-smaller selection of cookies and pastries but you just can't help but feel like everything was made with love and care. I had a flaky apple pastry and an authentic duck cookie. The apple pastry was incredible, simply incredible. The pastry crust was indeed flaky and wonderful, the apples tasted like they had been picked in the morning, and the duck cookie was a pleasant sugar cookie with a unique hardened blue sugar coating on top. These people are so kind! I live far across the country from my family and because of COVID could not fly out for my dad and brothers joint birthday party. I called the blue duck bakery the day of with a special request to drop off some goodies for my family. Not only did they accommodate my unusual delivery request they didn't ask for any additional charge. The cakes I ordered PLUS a bunch of other leftover goods (baguettes, crumb cake, croissants) were delivered to my family that night. They were so excited and it was a wonderful way to show them I cared even when I couldn't be with them. Truly these people are saints! And of course the pastries were crazy beautiful and delicious. I hate writing bad reviews. I always find the positive in things. The place is cute and the woman in line behind us was very nice. That's the positive to this experience. We were so excited to try the bakery. We love supporting local stores. We went in and my kids picked out some treats. My wife asked if they used lard in the pastry dough. The girl working the counter said, "I wouldn't know." When we saw she wasn't going to offer, my wife asked if she could find out. She made a call and said the bakers were going for the day. She wouldn't be able to tell us. The kids decided on a cupcake instead. We asked for it to be cut in half so they could share it. My son reached for it and dropped it on the floor. My daughter turned to my wife and asked, "Mommy, is the floor clean?" The girl behind the counter said, "I don't think so." Great answer. Terrible customer service. Pretty good baked goods. Everything the Blue Duck makes is really great, but there are some things that they do so well it always keeps me coming back. One: their sunflower bread. Perfect toasted in the morning with berry preserves. Mmm. Just delicious and so fresh & crispy every time. Their cakes are also something special. Came here recently because it my duty to bring dessert to a small family gathering. Had been wanting to try this Bakery after hearing such great things so here was my opportunity. It's very small inside as is the selection of baked goods but that's fine by me. Just tells me that everything is fresh and I'm not getting a 2 day old pie. When the Blue Duck opened I was super excited having heard very good things about them. The first times were great trying different breads and cakes. All good! Until the last 6 months, that is! I believe their breads are the BEST on the East End, North and South fork. I always ask them to make a presentation bread, a very large round bread for different holidays and ocassions and everyone is impressed by it's size and fantastic crust and taste.
