I stopped in to Catalina's Bake Shop over the weekend to pick up a cake for my best friend's birthday. It was a cute space with many wonderful baked goods, drinks, and even empanadas. I wanted a funfetti cake and the one they had readily available had lovely sunflowers on it. The woman working was so sweet and put some writing on the cake for me. The 6" cake was about $50 dollars which seemed a bit high, but I think its pretty standard for a bakery. The cake itself was very moist and absolutely delicious and I would give it an A+. The cake I purchased for her birthday from another local bakery last year was really dry, so I was pleasantly surprised by this cake. The buttercream frosting was where I felt the cake fell a bit short. It tasted like pure unsalted butter and had almost no sweetness to it, so we ended up just eating the cake center and leaving the frosting. Unfortunate for an expensive cake but based on the other reviews I'm wondering if it was just a one time error. I don't think I would get another cake from there, but the rest of the baked goods and empanadas looked awesome so I will definitely be bake to try those! read more

I saw that someone had posted on their social media that they had gotten empanadas at a bakery. Whaaat? I got the feeling that this was something that I must absolutely try so I took my son who is an empanada fan and hit the road. We got there at the end of the day and luckily there was 1 veg empanada left so it was meant to be! I got the vegetable one and he got beef. We also got a little container of green sauce. We looked around and I saw the most beautiful cupcakes so I had to buy a few. I was also interested in the almond danish but I decided to save that for another day. We polished off the empanadas very quickly. I have to say that they were the best empanadas I've ever had. They are not even comparable to any other empanadas I've ever tried. I'm not an expert on this subject but I know awesomeness from mediocrity and these were awesome. Yes empanadas from a bakery get an A+++. The outside was light and flaky and the filling was very flavorful and juicy. As far as the cupcakes, also an A+++. Besides being beautiful with the decorations and edible glitter they were very delicious. I tasted a piece of the carrot cake one and the one with the Oreo on top, both were moist inside and had the perfect amount of frosting. I did not taste the vanilla or the funfetti one but my kids said that they were the best they've ever tried. We've had plenty of cupcakes from bakeries in our lifetime and most were looking pretty but fell flat in the flavor department. These exceeded expectations in both area. We live a few miles away which might be dangerous. We will definitely be back. read more

Welcome Catalina's Bake Shop! The owner was in the back baking but the counter girl was super helpful & went out of her way to help you. They are located on Jericho tpk near Deer Park Ave. I stopped in later in the afternoon and was happy to find beautifully decorated cupcakes that taste delicious. I got the Carrot Cake, Oreo,and the Vanilla cupcakes & they were all delicious and definitely worth a trip. It's definitely a nice new Bake Shop that also serves coffee & tea. THE BEST. This bakery is awesome, and female owned. I wanted to do a custom Totoro cake for my sister in law's birthday. I called about 9 days in advance and Maribel said Catalina can definitely make the cake in such notice. I was worried it was too short of a notice. I paid a $25 deposit through Zelle and emailed them the Pinterest inspo of what I wanted. The pricing was soooo reasonable for a customized cake! We spoke on the phone briefly for the consultation (cake flavor, icing, and design) and Catalina delivered!! The cake was delicious and Catalina made it exactly like the Pinterest post I sent them. Maribel, the manager, was also very kind! I also tried their empanadas and they were amazing too! Highly recommend this bakery for their awesome customized cakes, baked goods and professionalism! I never write reviews but I have to today. I was looking for a reasonably priced bakery that was good to make an avengers cake for my son. I saw that Catalina's had awesome reviews so I contacted them. Catalina emailed me back right away. She gave me a good price based on the photo i sent her. I decided to go with them and I definitely made the right decision. Not only was the cake delicious, which doesn't always happen with specialty cakes, but it looked exactly like the picture. I have attached both the picture i sent and the cake she made (the one she made has the name Jayden) so you can see how spot on it was and the talent behind it. I highly recommend them. In fact I already ordered another cake for my other son's birthday next month. So glad I chose them. read more

I'm always a little hesitant to try a new bakery but I'm so glad I did. I had seen a post of FB from the cake don supporting small businesses. The two cakes I had were outstanding. The red velvet was rich and fluffy. The marble cake with chocolate mousse was a crowd favorite. I don't like buttercream, it tends to be too sweet but this one was the one of the best I've had. Rich and creamy. Besides the cake, baked empanadas had great flavor and came with a green dipping sauces which was delish. Cookies wise, they have a great selection of soft baked cookies. I had oatmeal raisin, it was a little sweet but I should have had half. The Linzer tart was so fresh and the raspberry filling was delicious. Could be one of my favorites. I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon for a sweet treat and was not disappointed. There is a wide variety of cupcakes, cakes, and pastries. The cakes on display looked GORGEOUS. I picked up half a dozen cupcakes to try at home and the staff was so patient with me while I was picking flavors. So, the cupcakes. They looked great and there was a variety- dulce de leche, red velvet, carrot, Oreo, double chocolate, yellow cake. The frosting on the cupcakes, chef's kiss. Great! I needed a custom cake for a birthday so I came in a week before the party and did a custom cake other with someone at the front desk. She was very helpful and listened to what I wanted on the cake. The cake came out beautiful and tasted great. It had vanilla cake, vanilla buttercream, and chocolate mousse filling. I couldn't be happier with the cake. The prices are very affordable too. This cake was $100, whereas other places quoted me around $200. The buttercream is not too sweet and the cake is perfectly sweet which balances the flavors out. The chocolate mousse was incredible. I also tried a vanilla cupcake that was amazing. Thanks so much! We love Catalina's Bake Shop!!! We have been there many times, and have loved everything that we have gotten. The empanadas are delicious. They are baked and not fried. We have had the chicken, beef, vegetable, pulled pork and sausage. My favorite is both the chicken or the beef. The dough is excellent, it's light and flaky. Also, the dough is stamped on the edge with the type of empanada - ie. BF for beef. It makes it so much easier when you bring them home to know which is which without having to cut them open. Now for the sweets - everything that we have had is delicious. I have attached photos of a small sampling of the many treats that we have had. They also make brownies, donuts, cookies and cupcakes. Heard about the empanadas and had to try them. I have wanted to like empanadas and have tried several and did not think they were that great. Most are fried and have more dough than filling. Not at Catalina's! They small and that's ok. Get at least two. They are baked and the dough is excellent. So they're healthier!!?? I tried the vegetable, the beef and the chicken. The beef was my favorite. The vegetable surprisingly delicious. They make a homemade cilantro sauce that goes with the empanadas. It was excellent. It looks like they make a pulled pork empanada. I called last minute to see if they would be able to send decorated chocolate covered strawberries for a friends birthday and Maribel who took my order over the phone was so incredibly nice and accommodating being that it was a last minute order and they were busy! She understood my vision over the phone and even texted me a picture of the order when it was finished letting me know it was on its way to be delivered. So good! We got the empanadas. The best we have had so far! They are baked, so not greasy. They have the flavors embossed on the crimping, so you can tell which is which. I heated them up in my air fryer on 350° for 5 minutes. Perfect! The green cilantro sauce they gave us to go with them was also so good! We had a few leftover empanadas we ate a few days later. Took maybe 7-8 minutes in the air fryer after being in the fridge. Good without the sauce, but I did miss it, which is a compliment. We got cupcakes for dessert, a different one for each. I wish they were a little bigger because I wanted a few more bites, and I generally like cake better than frosting anyway, but actually they were a good size for after dinner. read more

This relatively new dessert bakeshop is a small gem. There is a nice selection of dreamy desserts, pastries, danishes, cupcakes, and yes empanadas. The cookie selection was not large but there is one cookie that stands out: Alfajores. This Latin American treat is a melt-in-your-mouth shortbread with a creamy caramel filling, rolled in coconut (it's $2.50 a cookie !, but treat yourself you're worth it!). Now let's talk about those Empanadas! They are the best I have ever had and each of the fillings (4) was a savory treat. The staff is extremely nice and helpful. I have tried many chocolate chip cookies from many well known bakeries in Queens and Manhattan because I am a Chocolate Chip Cookie FAN! Catalina has the best Chocolate chip cookies ever. I hesitate to add the review for fear that when I travel from many miles away to get one, there won't be any on her shelf for me! I am even sending them to a love one in SF! Yes that good. I called to let Catalina know I was coming and she baked me a fresh warm batch for me to pick up. Now that is service mixed with love for her customers. What more can you ask for?
