I cannot say enough good things about the blue heron. Everything from the ambiance, to the service, to the incredible drinks definitely exceeded expectations. When it comes to speakeasy's I've experienced some amazing drinks paired with incredible decor and atmosphere but the service tends to lack a little. Which is why I wasn't expecting much when entering the blue heron, however, my server tara was fabulous. This is probably my favorite cocktail bar at the moment, definitely my favorite of the Crust-adjacent bird bars. Compared to the others it is quieter, and generally I have had better cocktails. The late night menu from Crust is also good. Service is also usually very good. read more

We sat at the bar and it was 20 minutes before anyone even approached us, and even then, it was only the guy that could get food or water, and we wanted alcohol. (Last call was 30 min away!) Finally, she came and took our I.D's and took my order and walked away without taking my friends order. Finally came back and my coke in my whisky coke was yellow and flat and she forgot my cherries. She had to go back to fix the coke syrup and that took 15 more minutes. My friend goes there a lot and his first cocktail was way off the mark in a bad way. The next one was better. This is a cute little speakeasy in the "new" downtown East Gilbert. Cute little place, hard to find if you don't know you are looking for a speakeasy door. But that's the entire point of a speakeasy lol. They have a lot of different kinds of drinks to choose from. You can enjoy them inside at a table, inside at the bar, or you can take a comfy seat outside on their patio. It has a very secret, dark, fun vibe, I LOVED IT! We each tried a few of their different drinks. I have to say the concoctions they mixed together I was wary of. But each drink was super tasty, you just have to open your mind to trying different drinks, with spices, and all kinds of different mix-ins. We all agreed we were going to go back for my bday. It is a bit expensive, so bring your big wallet. We did not try the food, for we only went there for drinks. The food that came out of the kitchen did look and smell delicious though. read more

Easily my favorite bar at the moment, I have been here more times than I can even remember since it opened, including my bachelor night before my wedding. This bar is busy but the atmosphere is well designed so it isn't loud and still feels cozy even when super full. The service is always prompt, they're really nice and the bartenders make a mean cocktail. Try the Ostrich Pornstar, it's the perfect amount of bitter and sweet. It's like a Moscow mule and Prosecco had a baby. I don't love Crust which is the restaurant that's connected to the bar so I don't order food here much. Some of the small plates are good like the charcuterie board. I'll save a full review of crust for another space though. Overall, this is the Gilbert place to just grab a drink with a friend or spend a romantic evening with your SO. I will be back, for my probably 10th time very soon. read more

Visited the Blue Heron, a cute and beautiful speakeasy located inside The Crust Restaurant, for happy hour. The food was amazing and out of this world, with prices that were just right. While I didn't care for my initial premade drink as it was too sweet, the bartender was amazing and handcrafted a new drink for me that was scrumptious, beautiful, and perfect. Place was decent, not a legitimate speakeasy since on street level and not a basement, but still decent ... service was ridiculously awful. Waitress rarely came over - food came out before drinks .. had to ask multiple times for waitress to come over so we could order another drink. You would think a "bar" would have your drink ready to go as you were finishing the one you are drinking. read more

I brought an out-of-town friend here last night, only to find out that they had significantly reduced their food menu. What we did order was bland and disappointing. If you're planning to visit, I recommend eating beforehand, as the food selection is likely to leave you dissatisfied. This was our first time going with another couple. We are big fans of the ostrich in Chandler, which is the same ownership. This seems to be newer and classier, but not quite as faithful to a real speakeasy. Very nice ambience though and drinks were amazing. Definitely NOT the place to go for a quick drink. I'm pretty sure I will be spending the remainder of 2022 in this very booth waiting for a drink I ordered 27mins ago. Granted, the space is elegant and nice. The plethora of waitresses and bartenders are very nicely dressed, and all seem to be having a great time. My lack of patience must not be visible through the dimly lit room with the great music. With that being said- our drinks have finally arrived and dang it, it is delicious!! Trust me when I say this review started with a generous 2 stars... but you can't really leave a bar with great drinks at a crappy review, especially when it was well worth said wait. Overall, will be back... and see if dressing nicer will have any effect on how long those drinks take. Hahaha read more

This is my second visit.. This was my first visit on the weekend and it was super busy. Nice thing is that the staff was very on top of it and got us seated in their patio that had heating so that was nice. Inside is really nice and loungey in the dark, cozy style but waaay louder than when I went on a week day night. Like really loud...eek Staff was awesome. Menu is the Crust menu and drinks are awesome. My only complaint is that if you happen to order a drink and they offer you a cubed ice, it's at 2.50 extra. Like, really?? I'm already paying a big premium for my cocktail and just that little thing is a stab. I hate when fancy places nickel and dime you, aren't I already paying extra for your cocktails? Rant over. I might go back but I'll def keep a better eye on the up-charging. read more

First time, hard to find. Knew it was around Crust but didn't know it was attached. Friend an I typically hit happy hour early to avoid crowds but didn't know they don't open till 5pm. We waited a bit than the Crust manager walked us back. Can enter from crust via door by restrooms. There is no signage on the outside. Door from outside is actually in the back and only has a sticker an wreath on it. Looks like standard kitchen door. Eventually they'll have a blue light. Considered a speakeasy but password is not needed. Ambience was chill an intimate. Not too big a place. Staff was friendly and helpful. Food is from crust which is outstanding. Drink menu is limited but master mixers always offer up to create you something special. We wanted espresso martini with real espresso which was accommodated. Honestly not the best we've had. Will try something different next time. Great spot to check out! read more

Came here for the first time last night (Saturday) because of all the hype I've seen about it on IG and the good reviews I've seen everywhere. The drinks were good, but the service was disappointing. We sat at the bar and you would think the bartenders would be super attentive noticing when your drink was empty, but sadly they did not. They hung out with the hostesses and bar backs chatting and laughing it up. Which we wouldn't have been bothered by this if they were still attentive to their customers, but it wasn't packed and the service was poor. We would've understood the slow service if it had been busy as we have both worked in a bar/ restaurant with a full service bar before. Also, I was given a chipped water glass, the chip was huge at least an inch long and they serve their water in a tall narrow glass. So, it was easily visible. Which told me they don't inspect their glasses before handing them out. It is beautiful inside!! Although, we didn't care for the loud 90's/early 2000s club music they were playing- and don't get me wrong that is my genre and I love that music, but we went there with "speak easy vibes" in mind and I feel that killed that vibe.. lastly, we ordered the tiramisu which never came out which was a bummer. The bartender did remove it from our bill after we told him we never received it.. which he never checked in with us about or followed up on which added to why we felt the service was poor. My friend and I showed up to a half full restaurant and still had to wait an excessive amount of time to be seated. Our server didn't come to our table for an extended amount of time despite passing us multiple times. She started out by bringing us water in cups that smelled like they hadn't been washed and she was annoyed that we asked for new glasses. When she started taking our order for drinks she checked our IDs like expected. My friend and I both had vertical IDs but were of drinking age. She looked at my friends vertical out of state ID and didn't give her any issues but she saw my Arizona ID and immediately started questioning it. I happened to have my passport on me and offered her another form of ID if that would make her more comfortable. She refused but then continued to give me a hard time about it and almost didn't give me back my ID and kept insinuating it was fake. She then went to ask her manager and several other employees which then made the whole staff start to give me glares. She kept bringing up the ID the entire night and I kept telling her I had other forms but she ignored me. The service the whole night was painfully slow and it took 35 minutes to get two off the menu drinks. By the time we got our second round of drinks we had been there for over an hour and were ready to leave. The food and drinks tasted good and the restaurant ambiance was very pretty which is why the staff treating me so poorly was extremely disappointing. My friend and I decided not to tip since our server treated me so rudely and service was slow. Even though a tip was not required on the bill, the mananger followed us out to the parking lot after we left to ask why we didn't tip which to us seemed very unprofessional. On our way out, I thanked staff that I walked by but every single person just glared at me like I had done something wrong. Overall what should have been a fun night at a pretty restaurant was quickly ruined by poor service and rude staff. We then went to outback and had an amazing time for 1/3 of the price. read more
