We stopped in for lunch on a beautiful October Saturday afternoon. We sat outside with our two little dogs. There was only one server. She was really hustling. The food and drinks came out quickly. Right off the bat you can tell this is more bar than food spot ! It's a cool place and it seems like they even do live music. The salads were tasty but our pizza was lackluster. Terrible service, my wife asked for no onions on her salad, the salad came with onions. When we notified the waitress, she said sorry about that and walked away, didn't try to fix it or take it off the bill or anything. The pizza was supposed to be crispy as advertised and it was not. We've been in the area for years and have never tried this place. This place is a relaxing, laid back bar. There are pool tables inside and outside seating. They have a nice selection of beers and libations. We were told the pizza is the bomb and it did not disappoint. The crust was my favorite part as it is crispy and thin. They have a nice selection of toppings that range from elk sausage to pepperoni. Atmosphere is just what you'd want from a local bar - staff and locals were super friendly. Note.... They are not in any hurry.... So be prepared to relax, settle in, and wait a bit. read more

We are staying nearby so came over on a Monday evening for dinner. Our experience was very good, everyone was friendly and service was quick. We shared a large house salad which was very fresh (the house jalapeno ranch dressing is fairly spicy) and a pizza (The Slope) which was excellent with crisp crust and great flavor. I will never order from this place again, and it's 100% because of the service. The woman answering the phone was beyond rude and disrespectful, and they completely lost my business because of it. I called to place an order using the menu that's posted in their Facebook album labeled "Menu." Before I could even finish, she cut me off and snapped, "You're ordering from a menu that's 6 years old. Go to our Facebook to get the right one." I explained that I had literally pulled it from their Facebook, but she kept insisting "there's no way" and repeating that it was outdated. I said fine, I'd check again and call back. When I called back--this time with only slight changes and politely asking if an item was available--her response was to actually yell "NO!" into the phone. We had the BEST experience here. Firstly, the atmosphere was welcoming and cozy. We had the most authentic server that was genuine, charismatic and made the experience ten times better by making sure we stayed very hydrated and got plenty of delicious iced water. Hands down these are the best chicken wings I have ever had. The meat is tender, the skin crisp. Have tried Buffalo and lemon pepper - delicious! Service can be a little spotty, but that's due to the restaurant industry being understaffed as a whole. No website, which is fine, so we went on the Facebook page and our group of 9 selected what we wanted to order from what we THOUGHT was the menu. Called, and immediately were cut off by the person on the phone and were rudely told that was not the right menu and to go on the Facebook page and find the right one. Fine. Went back on and found the most recent menu photo we could and re-selected items and called back. Nicer person answered the phone the second time and our friend started by asking if what she was ordering was correct for their menu. Could hear who I am guessing was the rude person from before in the background yelling "NO!" They never tried to direct us better to the current menu or offer to let us know what they had. This folksy bar and grill has a great vibe. It appears to cater to both a local crowd and to folks passing through. It's got a spacious outdoor seating area with good Mountain View's. The inside dining area (which I've not tried yet) looks cozy and a bit dark -- just the kind of place I enjoy afternoon suds and food. It's got a healthy array of interesting beers -- on tap and by the bottle. Good pub food -- I especially enjoy the cheeseburgers and Gator Bites. I recently moved back to the area and found the Blue Moose is on its 5th owner since I originally moved here. This place has no regard for any sort of standards other than catering to the locals. The bartender allows "regulars" to let their cat sit on the bar while drinks are made and served. When I said something to the bartender about the cat on the bar, I was told I was being mean and threatening to her regulars. Dogs also roam the dining area, off leash, while food is served and eaten. The food is served burned half of the time after waiting close to an hour to get it, and I have had wings that could be described as rare to medium rare. This staff only cares about the local favorites and has no problem ignoring or refusing to serve anyone who questions their practices. I would definitely skip this place unless you like cat hair with your drink or to wait an hour for burned or questionable food. There are much better places in either direction on the highway with much better food, service, drinks, etc. I would recommend going to any of them instead of stopping here. Unfortunately 1 star is the lowest rating I can give here. If I could give a lower rating, I would have given it. read more

First, this tavern is definitely off the beaten path, which we love. When you walk in the atmosphere is rich of a local old saloon, with plenty of authentic things to look at. My wife and I each ordered a pizza off the menu. It has good ingredients on top, however, the crust was obviously frozen, or previously frozen, and therefore, without flavor and the consistency of cardboard. It's really too bad, because had they had even a mediocre crust, the pizza would've been good and acceptable. Due to the use of the frozen pizza crust, the pizza was simply not very good. My recommendation is that this is a good place to stop for a beer and talk with friends, eat before you come, or after you leave. Just don't eat here. read more

This is a bar....yes they have food, but it's BAR FOOD...cheaply pre-made burger patties, frozen fries, canned cheese sauce.... The atmosphere is "hole in the wall - mountain town" (which I'm totally fine with) and the drinks were good. No need to dress fancy, just warm. However...the food was subpar and limited menu. As long as you're not expecting a gourmet meal (or burger cooked correctly) - then you'll be fine! This is a 4 star dive bar - that's just not what I was looking for. This looks like a great place to drink. As far as food I don't recommend, we had two pizzas, they were not good. The place is kinda of dirty with old torn couches, sticky tables and an all around time to clean look. The staff wasn't interested in us. We have an obvious "not from around here" accent. But we stuck it out because some of us were getting to the height of hangry. Honestly I would have left if it wasn't for that. Here' s the thing, you could tell the locals loved it. Recently I attended a handbell/handchime music festival in Green Mountain Falls, CO. I met up with a friend of mine who was also attending and we stayed in a cabin next to the Church in the Wildwood where the event was being held. We had need for a supper the first night and lunch the third day, and we ended up at The Blue Moose Tavern both times! It is in what must be the tiniest downtown I've ever been in, basically a block to a block and a half long, one side of the road. There was another restaurant choice, but when we looked at the posted menu outside it looked a bit expensive and fancy for us, so we ambled on down to the tavern. We were NOT disappointed! The atmosphere was great (very convivial and casual if a bit rough; in places the floor was a mishmash of fill-in plywood nailed down, etc.), and the food was definitely a step up from standard pub grub. I had the Jalapeno Beer Mac and Cheese and Parmesan Truffle Fries the first time and my friend had the Chicken Caesar Wrap. She drank a margarita and I had an on-tap beer. The second time we both had beers and pizzas (personal size ones), me a vegetarian one called The Boujee Margarita (for margarita tomato marinara sauce not margarita cocktail!) and she The Catamount (chicken, tomato, onion and cheese). She had a choice of alfredo or basil pesto sauce and went with the latter. She claims it was fantastic, and she took home her leftover slices. I on the other hand ate my entire pizza in one sitting! So tasty! The first visit did involve someone who was either drunk, high or both and had to be carried to a couch and then an ambulance called, and the second visit involved some very drunk people (mostly men) yelling expletives at TV screens and fighting over rival football teams. We chose to sit outside the second time, which sounded good at the time until it started raining in earnest and even the umbrella on our table didn't fully protect us as I got a nice stream of cold rainwater down my butt-crack for half the visit. LOL! ;) But the waitstaff was wonderful, and the second visit I asked a bartender if we could have a waitress wait on us and he said, "How about a waiter?" because apparently "our" waitress was not on duty that day. At least they have a sense of humor! Maybe I should have used the unisex term "waitron" I learned while writing a story about restaurant waitstaff while a journalist in the 1990s, but I don't think that term ever caught on.
