A little unusual ordering scheme, but seamless and the food is on point! When you arrive there's a chalkboard with instructions on how to order via the QR codes at the tables. So if you're staying in you can just find a table and review the menu on your phone. There's also paper menus available and you can order form the counter. This whole process(I used the QR code) was seamless and quick. After the above, they'll deliver your order to your table, along with anything from the bar. There's a self-service drink station form on-alcoholic drinks in the corner of the dining room. I ordered the burnt ends with sweet potatoes and collard greens, my wife ordered the sweet potato 'nachos' (waffle fries with meat, cheese and fixins) Both were wonderful. The brisket was fairly lean, but still tender enough to cut with a fork and moist. The sweet potato waffle fries were tasty, but the greens were a little flat, nothing bad, but not noteworthy either, I'll consider something else next time. The Nachos were huge! Covered in big chunks of goat cheese, scallions, and pulled pork. We ordered without sauce so we could use as little or as much as we wanted. The pork was fantastic, it was very moist and full of smokey bbq flavor. The cheese chunks were a bit on the large side, smaller would've been better, particularly since goat cheese is a pretty strong flavor. We had better service than some have described, but the food was just "okay" - not the worst, and I'd go back, but certainly not the best. My wife had brisket nachos which were really pretty good (just enough cheese sauce, and a good sprinkling of cilantro- yum!!). I had the sweet potato nachos with brisket (chopped brisket over sweet potato fries). When asked which sauce I'd like, the guy taking our order (at the counter) balked at putting the sauce on the side, yet when the order was delivered there was very little sauce - the top was quite dry. In fact, that's my major complaint- the brisket was really dry. I added more sauce, but then finished off my wife's nachos instead. The online menu has a description of the sauces available, but there is nothing in the restaurant to tell you. It's rare that I give a 5, but The Blue Pig deserves it! After hiking Cummings Falls, we decided to find southern BBQ - landing us in the oh so adorable town of Cooksville and The Blue Pig. The ambiance is inviting and wonderful. I couldn't get enough of the atmosphere and we were lucky enough to sit next to the garage door looking out to the adorable patio. The restaurant is order when you enter or order at the bar. They bring the food to your table. Ours was delivered pretty immediate. Several choices of bbq sauce are available at a stand and pop is at a fountain station. The food was delicious - must have sauce of course. The sweet potato fries were thick (or plumb) served with a special sauce. The service was wonderful - from the first person at the order stand - welcome and hospitable, to the bar tender who took our dinner order and gave a suggestion for my cocktail (as I am a light drinker), the bar manager who checked in on us, to the owner who passed by to ask if everything was ok. We don't like to have constant bother, but this was caring hospitality. They brought the check in the paperback cowboy table, turning to an inscription that sealed the wonderful evening. We stopped in for dinner to break up our drive between Sweetwater and Nashville. What a terrific choice we made! Just a few miles off of I40. Nice location with available street parking. The restaurant is welcoming and set up well. The staff are super friendly and helpful. We ordered the brisket, Mac and cheese, potato salad, and sweet potato nachos. This was THE BEST bbq we had during our visit to Tennessee! The brisket was phenomenal! The pickles and onions were tasty too! Definitely recommend making your way here when visiting TN. I had high hopes for this place, but it went downhill fast... First, our server was amazing and I am sorry I do not remember her name. The owners were engaging and very nice as well. When we walked in, one of the owners came and said we are out of brisket (which is the only bbq I eat) and I think one other item, but I still decided to give it a try. They were also out of the beer we wanted. They said Train Day hit them hard and they ran out, but I see I am not the only reviewer that experienced their food shortage. The run down on the food: 1. The sweet potato fries with BBQ were decent. The actual fries were good, but there was this thick, clumpy sauce that tasted like horseradish, but the owner said there was no horseradish and wouldn't tell us what was in it. 2.Mac-n-cheese, which we really liked. Could of used a bit of pepper, but it was creamy and slightly sharp. Only to learn after that they don't make that in house. 3. Rib-eye - huge piece of meat that was screaming for salt, pepper and some flavor! It tasted like they bought the steak at unwrapped it and through it on the grill and served it. I had to ask for some Worcestershire, just to give it some flavor. The cook was inconsistent--I asked for just below medium and it was mostly rare in the center and medium on the edges. 4. The turnip greens - if you are in the south and want to do any type of greens they better be on point and these greens were not good at all. In all seriousness, they tasted like a canned turnip green with too much black pepper added. There were chopped so fine and overcooked that it was almost mush (that is why I think canned). When I told the owner, he said, "you didn't like the greens? I will have to go taste them. The sous-chef made this batch." To my knowledge any successful restaurant's food is tasted by at least the chef and if I was the owner, I would taste. Those greens should never make it to a table. 5. Parmesan potatoes - a bit of crispy skin and good flavor, roughly mashed. Really good, but they were served barely warm unfortunately. Again our server was great, but it took FOREVER to get our food. If wait times are going to be long, serve some rolls, cornbread or hush-puppies, so that the wait times aren't that noticeable. Then they had issues with getting the bill because of a power surge which was another 20 minutes just trying to figure out the bill. I believe this place would be great if they actually made homemade mac-n-cheese or not admitting that its boxed because that was one of the highlights. Also, they cant run out of food; especially, brisket. The greens need to be revamped (I can help)--maybe move to a collard and add some seasoning to the steak! Also, the wait times for getting food is absurd; especially, if you are out of items and some are not made from scratch. Usually, I get a tad upset when we experience a bad restaurant, but the experience was somewhat comical which is worse. I feel if this place was in a larger city, they would be closed by now. I am not against giving this place another shot. The owner did tell us that they have been open for 6 months, but yet to have a grand opening...a bit odd but could explain some of the difficulties. This is THE best spot in Cookeville! It is in the center/ heart of the town. We called ahead and made a reservation which was needed at 7:00 on a Wednesday night. We were waiting to go all week because they are closed Monday and Tuesday. It was a full house at that time. We ate at another cookeville BBq place which didn't stand a chance. This place has a great bar, atmosphere and really creative options on their menu. On to the meals: Appetizers Sweet potato nachos are a must. They were perfectly paired with pulled pork, feta and scallions. I wish they had a nacho sampler because those were so good I would assume the rest of the varieties are delicious! Wings were excellent and Meaty. They came with a platter of house made bbq sauces to dip! They were a hit. Kids meals--excellent value for them. Just need to have more variety on kid options. Ribs were excellent. We preferred the red fox sauce. Pulled pork dish was delicious but a small portion. I had some of the appetizers but if not I would be still hungry Smoked sausage-2 links over grits wow! Lots of side dishes to choose from: Sweet and regular potatoes were great Vinegar slaw was delicious. Well flavored The Parmesan potatoes were a delicious twist on mashed potatoes. So good. When walking into The Blue Pig I had high hopes, I've gotten a lot of good feed back from friends and family so I was hoping for good things! The overall layout of the restaurant was a little confusing at first but you understand it after a little while of being in there. I am personally not a big fan of the whole order yourself thing and it comes to your table, especially because if you keep your tab open it's an automatic 16% tip. For who may I ask? I honestly don't know where that tip would go to. The host was running around like a chicken with her head cut off seeming like she was doing everything, and the other guy which seemed to be a manager or just some food runner of sorts was a little off. I'm not reviewing this for peoples personalities though because everyone is different. Actually the only reason that this restaurant is because the hostess did an excellent job and was very friendly and on top of her stuff. Now onto the food. Not good. There's not many words to describe it because it just wasn't good. The Cowboy Nachos were alright but every other chip was completely stale and tasted like I was biting into a piece of cardboard, also for the Nachos the proportions were pretty horrible, I had more than 60% of chips left after everything else was gone on there and I'm not gonna eat stale chips with nothing else. My mom has the Cobb Salad which looked a little sad, most of the time salads come in bowls but that's just from my experience. Just looked a little thrown together. My fiancé got the kids bbq plate, it's a kids meal so not much I can complain about but just one thing, the pulled pork tasted like boot leather. When we finished our food my mom wanted a togo box, and they didn't even have one! LMAO! What type of restaurant is completely out of togo boxes, so can I only pay half for my meal because I didn't finish the other half? I understand that restaurants and stores are having hard times getting food items and other items in at the moment with the way our economy is at the moment, but tell us these things in the beginning so we know what to get and not to get. Also with the food being pretty sub-par, why would I ever leave a 16% tip when I didn't even half someone to take an order with at the table? We are in the area visiting family so when it came time for lunch I turned to yelp since we were not familiar with local restaurants. This place was in a cute downtown area and easy to get to. The service was exceptional. I had the pork plate which had a very generous portion with 2 sides plus a piece of jalapeño cornbread that was addictive. The sides I chose were bake macaroni and cheese that was extremely good and baked beans. My husband had the brisket tacos and sweet potato fries which came with a special dipping sauce. He was very pleased with his choice. The staff continued to check in with us thru out our meal. The barbecue sauces were different from anything I have had before but were amazing. Stopped in The Blue Pig on a work trip through Cookeville. I understand that they have recently reopened after taking a Covid / Remodel break. Glad they made it back. I prefer to support small local businesses while traveling. I decided on the combo meal and ordered Brisket and Smoked sausage with fried and baked Mac for the sides. The meal also comes with a square of cornbread. I also had a couple of their house old fashioned cocktails. Overall, a pretty good combination. The brisket was a small portioned cut from the flat of the brisket. It had good coloring and smoke flavor with a thin nicely rendered fat cap. Overall, it was good, just slightly dry. Brisket is tricky to get consistent and to keep moist when serving, so understandable. The cornbread square was flavorful, but also a little dry. The fries we're good and appeared to be fresh cut. The baked Mac was a little small and I would have liked more of it. By far the best Mac I've had from a restaurant anywhere, and I don't say that lightly. I'm a bit of a Mac and cheese snob. Next time I'm back in Cookeville, I'll be back to try the brisket again. Also, one of the owners came around and was checking on guests and regulars. So I guess this place needs some reviews, since they just opened (literally, this weekend). It's still a "soft opening" right now, and officially opens on Wednesday of next week. But this place will have no problem whatsoever attracting customers! This say this is the Best BBQ in Cookeville is probably an understatement. The Memphis BBQ ribs are absolutely delicious! They are flavored with a dry rub (which doesn't get your hands too sticky that you need a wet nap), and spiced with, I am told, a recipe using South African and Indian spices. Whatever combination it is, it's a winning one! The chef is the same chef that operated the Bight of the Bend restaurant that used to be open in Gainesboro, Tennessee. Cookeville is happy to have him! I don't think there is a bad item in the menu. There is something for everyone! And even the side dishes are excellent! I had the Memphis BBQ ribs with the potato salad and mixed greens. The potato salad was just as good as the ribs! The draft beer wasn't installed today (soft opening), so all they had was cans. Still, a good beer selection, and they pour it into a glass for you. I am told they plan to have Red Silo (local brewery) on draft with a good variety of local Cookeville brews and even the Red Silo root beers and crime sodas.
