Body Shop has always been my go to for gifts, lotion, body cream and more. I'm not sure why there's so many bad reviews. I browse around and help myself. I always like the samples so I can get to smell the delicious aromas. My favorite is always Coconut. If you haven't been to The Body Shop this location is as good as any. When I found my old tin today that I purchased at The Body Shop I realized they were ahead of the times. Hemp products came in the tin that I've had for years and years. As a long time shopper of the brand, it was refreshing to discuss older/discontinued products with someone who knew what i was Talking about. She truly made me feel at home and i could've talked to her for hours. We discussed the nee Hemp Oil, which I had just received an email about. After smelling it, I knew I needed it. I came here on April 7, 2018 to purchase some body butter because I knew which scents I like and my skin needed a re-boost of lotion that doesn't irk me out. The shop was clean and organized. It was a bit overwhelming because it seemed like they have more products than they did in the past. Anika Rahman was working the shop and she wasn't too insistent or pushy. She was very helpful, in fact, with describing the various aspects of the different types of lotions available so I could choose the right ones for me. I always forget the exact name of the type of cream or butter or whatever it is that I seek. She did mention the sale, but I always feel it's best to buy what you need - not more of it that by the time you get up to it, it's gross. Look- it's a lotion shop like any other. And I was enticed by the nice smelling lotions from my bus stop. I had 15 mins to kill. However- the salesperson kept talking to me about their products when I was clearly in "search and buy" mode. If I look busy and I'm not looking for help trust that I am not at all curious about the product history or ingredients. And when I tell you I am fine, do not need your help, double-trust that and just let me do my thing. But then she kept interrupting me when I was shopping to discuss what I was looking at. Then- I get to register with what I want - and there are two cashiers. One is having what seems like a tutorial on the products people have already brought up for purchase. I wait. I'm clearly waiting to purchase my products. But no. There's a product love fest going on at the register and the 2nd person at the other register is just standing there not acknowledging me. And the sales person who kept interrupting me while I was looking around - now is just standing behind me. Everyone just now standing around. Not what I wanted to do, but had to drop off the products and leave to catch my bus. Gonna have to get it online. Sure wish the store personnel following me around the store was also able to work the cash register. read more

Shopping at the Body Shop is like having a friend who takes you out for YOUR birthday but they take you to the place THEY like and then they order for you. There's always a special sale, but when you try to participate there's also always a catch. After I picked out what I wanted, I was told I could choose three more items for free. Could I try the new bubble bath please? Nope, new products aren't part of the deal. I went to take a lip gloss nope that's make-up and not part of the deal. Hand cream, please. Oh, I'm sorry but that's part of another deal - two for one. Would you like to add those to your order? Are you kidding me? Aren't offers like this supposed to entice me to try new products I might like and create customer loyalty? Why make it like the worst gameshow ever. I really like a number of their lines and I appreciate their fair trade practices. But it's impossible for me to recommend such an annoying customer experience to anyone. read more

The Harlem location closed down due to a flood/water sprinkler malfunction so I decided to give this location a try. Same great product but the staff seemed to all be in a sour mood. If you work with such happy scents hows about stopping to smell them and being thankful for life and employment? Chin up, buttercup. You organize lotion for crying out loud, get it together. I cant stand it when a sales associate is standing at the register organizing scented knick knacks and then when I'm ready to pay she "needs" to find someone else. *sigh* Girl, bye. I came for a visit either May 1st or 2nd and met Suzette (sorry for the spelling). She was absolutely amazing. Both she and the associate who was there when I had the issue apologized for what happened. I ended up buying several items, but this experience was much better than the experience back in February. I love all the The Body Shop products I've ever tried. My complaint is with the plastic bottles the shampoo comes in. They're too hard to squeeze and should come with a pump. The workers at the Rockefeller Plaza location should wait until customers actually get into the store. I don't need you to help me before I'm halfway into the store. This location is a little larger than my living room so if I need you I can find you. Tourists be aware: they make it sound like the 3 for 2 sales are special. These are not sales. They have them everyday. And then when you check out there's always something else and they try to coax you into buying more. read more

I was descended upon within a second of entering this store, and Olga stalked me nearly the entire time I attempted to shop. I said "I'm just looking," and "I'm not likely to buy that," and gave her all the obvious "leave me alone" body language. I wanted to buy several items, but she saw fit to tell me what I could clearly see on the signs and labels despite the fact that I'm intelligent and literate. Every time I picked up a new product, she had to get in front of me and tell me why I needed it. Why on earth do stores train people to crawl up the @$ses or customers? Are most people spineless and impressionable? Maybe this store is pushier because it services lots of tourists, being next to Radio City? Whatever the reason, it's annoying as hell. I went to Crabtree and Evelyn and spent the money that The Body Shop would have gotten since the woman in that store respected my space. read more

This is really not a place where you want to find good experience in shopping products. The sales persons do not think from the customer side. There was a promotion when if I buy two and I can get one free, and I purchases two stuffs did not notice the promotion. The person at check out place said nothing about I could get a fee product but let me pay two and that's all. Other places I went of the body shop, the sales will smile kindly but not interrupting my sayings and told me so many 'No'. I don't get all these grumpy reviews. This place is awesome! There are always great sales and the products are really high-quality, made with great ingredients sourced from all over the world that help so many people. This is one of the few companies that consistently sticks by its values and has been doing good in the world for decades. I highly recommend the banana hair conditioner, which smells amazing and works beautifully, the body butters, especially the shea butter and the nut ones and the argon oil, and for the summer, the body yogurts. If you like fruity scents, they have a ton of those too as well as flowery ones. All the body butters last for months. I also love their vitamin E and their aloe products, plus they have have several new higher-end lines that are pricier but fantastic. I can recommend spending the 10 bucks to become a Body Shop member, because you get points for all your purchases and when the points accumulate, which they do quickly, you get money on your card so that means free products. Also, if you fill out your contact information at the counter, you can be selected to be 'queen for a day'! (Boys too!) :That means that you and a friend can come in for a free mini facial. It is so relaxing and fun, and you get to try lots of their products. Lastly, try their new items made from carrots. They smell amazing and work really well. read more

I had a positive experience here and would return. Yes, the professionalism is a mixed bag, but at the core, there is genuine customer service where what is in the best interest of the client is put first. Betsy was the most professional by far - available to answer questions and offer advice without hovering or being pushy. By mixed bag, I mean that the line between enthusiastic friendliness and calculated pushiness can blur. If you are prone to being talked over or upsold, go with a friend. Sales promotions will be pitched. One person was getting two items and the register was told at least three times that by buying a third item, they would get three items of their choice free. That is a great promotion, but sometimes people have a select budget or amount of product they use or want. Asking about one product might lead to an explanation of the entire line or repeated offers to try a sample right there. Great selection, easy to navigate, and welcoming. read more

I would give this place negative stars if I could. I have been using the body shop products for years and I have never been this disappointed in a store. I walked in to purchase the tea tree oil products. I wasn't aware that the travel size was not part of the get 2 get 1 free promotion so I grabbed 2 full sized products and a travel size one. The sales associated Glynn Renee was staring at me very impatiently while I was picking the products, and she RUDELY told me that travel size was not part of the promotion. Then she said I would be wasting my money if I get 2 travel sized items and a full sized, I might as well just get a travel gift set. While I politely declined her suggestion, she GRABBED the products out of my hand and YELLED AT ME: i will show you how much you will have to pay. She was talking to me as if I was STUPID and DIDN'T UNDERSTAND MATH. When I pointed out that she was being condescending, she raised her voice and said I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU MEANT. And she never apologized until the manager Jordan came to mediate the situation. When I asked her for her name she told me that there is NO ONE i can talk to but the costumer service line. Regardless of the promotion, the costumer should have the freedom to choose to purchase whatever they desire. I wanted the travel size for a reason and it's not her place to tell me what to purchase in such a RUDE manner! Will never purchase from them again. read more

So after a really, really, long day of work, all I wanted to do was buy some nice smelling shampoo to rinse my stresses away. I work in Rock Center so I thought I would head to the closest store. Big mistake. First off, I work in Rock Center. Rock Center is a zoo everyday of the year, now imagine it during the holidays. Now imagine it when the tourists are lined up for Radio City (right next to the B Shop). It was that kind of crowded, but I really needed that sweet-smelling shampoo. I left empty-handed, and this is why: your customer service is rude. No one helped (which was fine, I was tired) and all your cashier was interested in doing was upselling me. Look, I can see the the giant signs you have plastered all over your store. I simply wasn't interested in buying 4 items to save money on 2. I just wanted to buy what I came in for. And a note for you Body Shop employees: If a customer wants to overpay for their products and not take advantage of the latest deal, let them. It's our choice to be fools with our money and we will help keep the doors of your store open and keep you employed during a difficult economic time. People who come in for specific items tend to be repeat customers, too; which I certainly won't be here again. Three times your cashier told me how I could save and then obnoxiously snapped: "well, I'm just trying to save you money." And she did save me money; I turned around and left. Instead of wasting $20 like I planned, I wasted my time. I certainly won't chose to part with either in this Body Shop again. Now, this whole story isn't really Yelp worthy for bad customer service. And working in customer service is tough work and I imagine especially so in Rock Center. Plus, I know I came in not real interested in engaging--this was an errand for me, that's all. What crossed into bad here, is when Miss Cashier and her coworker made a joke behind my back and started laughing--that's not just bad service, that's foolish. So, here's a word of advice, Miss C.: I had your job 20 years ago, and back then the smart ones, the ones who had hopes to work outside customer service some day, knew to keep our mouths shut until AFTER the customer left the store. But on the bright side, thank you for helping me save money--it's like I had an extra $20 to spend in L'Occitane around the corner after I left your store! read more

I like the Body Shop products and I use them almost exclusively. That said, the service in this particular location was pretty bad. They had big signs with the deals "buy 3 get 2 free", "buy 2 get 1 free", etc. However, when I chose 2 of the big hand creams and I asked for a third one free, I was told that this promotion doesn't apply to this product, even though the huge sign about the promotion was on the shelf right next to the product I was trying to buy. Then they wouldn't let me use my Groupon with any discounts, so it was a bummer. Next time I will order online or go to a different location. read more

I wish I could give their customer service half a star... The worst customer experience ever - the store manager could care less about the products and the customers. She will even ignore you by pretending not to hear you when you ask her a question. I had purchased a body butter online at a discount, but was not loving the scent (strawberry). I brought it back to the store with receipt and asked for an even exchange for a different scent (grapefruit). it was the same product, the same size, except for the scent. After I waited 15 minutes to get up to the front of the line, the store manager said she had to return the item I had purchased online and could not offer me an exchange. If I wanted the same product in grapefruit, I would have to pay the full price. I asked her for the reasoning for this policy was given at any other store (bath and body works, sephora, lush, etc) you would able to exchange for a different color / scent especially when I had not used any of the product. She said "Do you want a refund or not?" and I said i would prefer to get the product in a diff scent, but wanted more clarification why I couldn't get an even exchange. She rolled her eyes and said "You can either take the fund or not." I'm sorry, but this customer service is just not acceptable. 1. If you can't offer an exchange, you should have some sort of explanation - "the online store is different than our retail store." More importantly, when you're asked a question, you should answer it. If you wouldn't ignore your coworker when she asked a question, why would you do that to your customers? Do you know how insulting that is? You can't fulfill the request AND you don't care enough to answer? 2. Given the personal care item business is extremely competitive and the weakness in consumer spending, I suggest the body shop and its employees, start to care or you'll lose more customers. As a beauty and makeup blogger, I spend well over $2000 / year on cosmetics and skin care, but I will be taking my business elsewhere. Between bath and body works, lush and sephora, I will not be shopping here ever again. read more
