I tried the Lobster Mac and Cheese ($21) which looked nothing like the picture online (LOL) and came out a bit too crispy on top for my liking. It made the sauce dry out a lot. However, it was packed with lobster which was awesome! I also tried the Boil with 1 lb of Snow Crab (MP) and 1/2 lb of Shrimp. We got the flavor with butter and old bay, I forget what they called it. The boil was good but not great - the shrimp was super tough, and I wish there was more flavor all around. Since buying a house north of Crystal River, I pass this place every time. Last weekend it was time to try it out. First, on a not so busy night, live music spilling out from the bar area, and No Hostess was able to seat us. We waited over 5 minutes, before a waitress noticed us and went to get someone. We sat near the music, and he was good, we sang along with the 70's & 80's hits as we waited to be waited on. When we finally got a waitress, she was NEW. It was one of her first nights alone, and though she made some errors, we have faith that she'll be fine with time under her belt. Came in for a quick lunch today. This will be our second time, first was back when they opened which was great!! Our server this time was polite and quick. My husband ordered the upgraded steak. I expected a bit more for his steak and they forgot his Shrimp he ordered. I ordered the Southern Pork Sandwich with coleslaw. I was less than impressed with my meal. The seasoning was not there and there was quite a bit of fat and a bone.. maybe the bone was supposed to be in it, but I'd think there should not be a bone in a sandwich. Not sure if we timed it right or what. But we visited this for the first time after moving to the area two years ago. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was hot and delicious. While we were stuck next to who might have been a manager as the cook brought out food for this guy to try and the staff followed like circling vultures to get their taste tests in too. They were respectful of us as patrons and we enjoyed the outside seating at the bar top. We ordered simple like we always do when trying a new place... the grilled cheese with a side salad and the Sausage Adouille. Both came out perfect. We also ordered the pickle fries which if you like pickles and you like them fried too can be super hit or miss. These were a hit! Service was 5 stars. Very prompt, kind, knowledgeable, and overall just a good guy. We started with the giant pretzel and the only reason I dropped a star is that half of it was cooked amazing and one of the best pretzels I've ever had and the other half was overcooked. We were so hungry. It all got eaten, but would have wished it to be cooked evenly. My hubby got the soft shell crab sandwich which he really enjoyed. Everything was below average, including the hamburgers my kids got. Everything was a reheat and eat type of freezer food and not fresh. We REALLY WANTED to eat at The Crab Plant, but they were closed on a Sunday!!! What the Hell???! So, my uncle recommended The Boil Yard... We walk in and the place looks a little dis-sheveled, like they're ALMOST ready to open and serve customers. It took our waitress several minutes to make first contact- but she was friendly and polite. I ordered the Green Pepper Soup and the Catfish Basket (blackened). Other people at our table ordered The Clam Boil and Blackened Shrimp with Red Potatoes. The soup arrived just barely above room temperature, and after a few minutes I was able to wave down our waitress to ask her to have the kitchen heat it up. The soup was actually quite good. Almost more like Spanish Rice Casserole it was so thick and hearty. It was a LARGE "cup"; a BOWL by most restaurants standards. About this time a bunch of a--hole bikers pulled up outside and revved their bikes engines for 3 or 4 minutes. These are the "look at me because I need attention" LOUD-ASS bikes that seemed to have no mufflers. The restaurant is open-air on one corner near the bar so these idiot bikers sounded like they were right inside with their stupid Viagra-scooters. Our food showed-up and my Blackened Catfish was very salty! I like blackening seasoning but this was just too heavy on the salt. I could feel it roiling in my gut hours later! Their homemade fry-chips were O.K., but not the treat I was lead to believe. My friend said his Clam Boil was O.K., but nothing special. My aunt said her Cajun Shrimp were really good. My uncle liked his Catfish Basket. I went into The Boil Yard with a little bit of a chip on my shoulder anyway (because I was disappointed The Crab Plant was closed), but I tried to remain open minded. While planning our trip to Crystal River, we landed on the Boil Yard for a post-kayak tour lunch. We were seated right away and greeted by a super friendly hostess and server. We decided on the blackened grouper sandwich per our server's recommendation, and the soft shell crab burger. Food was great and came out fast! The soft shell crab burger was great, but a bit odd that the crab legs are just sticking out of the sandwich. Not sure that's what we expected, but good nonetheless. Beyond delicious! It was very busy and crowded, and we had a tad bit of a longer wait, but our waitress was so kind and tried her very best to communicate (short) delays with us. She kept drinks refilled, and checked back several times once we got our food. We had oysters as an app and even got our 10&12 year olds to try them! I thought they were delish, the kids didn't agree with me haha. For our main meal, our 9&10 year old shared a boil with 1 1/2 lbs of snow crab and 1/2 lb of clams, in the backyard sauce. Our 12 year old had a boil with 1 lb snow crab in St Roch. Our 14 year old had the rib-eye. Uncle had 1lb snow crab and 1 lb green mussels in Backyard sauce. And my husband and I shared 1 lb snow crab, 1/2 lb sausage, and 1/2 lb blue crab, in Backyard sauce with garlic added. We all LOVED our food!! I have been in many crab boil types of restaurants, all over the US, and this was easily in the top 2 (the first being at a spot in Bar Harbor, Maine). The seafood was fresh, perfectly cooked, and the seasonings were next level! The one possible complaint was in my 14 year olds ribeye, it was somewhat thin, and not great (but he still rated it a 6/10). But we had warned him about that from the start - I mean, who orders steak at a seafood restaurant?! Go with their specialties lol! Oh, we also added a side of steamed broccoli and the kids devoured it alongside the corn and potatoes that came in the steamer buckets. And our 11 year old loved the clams so much (his first experience with them) that he ordered another pound to be added on. At the end of our almost 2 hour meal, we were beyond stuffed! We had polished off almost everything except maybe 1/4 lb of sausage, and one of 2 crab small knuckles...we wanted to finish everything but we literally were stuffed to the brim. Stopped by for dinner Saturday night 02/11/2023 for dinner. Let me start by saying I think I fell in love with the bartender and caught myself several times staring at her. Damn she was beautiful! I should've sat at the bar! ‍ My waitress did a great job though. Service was excellent and she was attentive. We had a quick chat about the pronunciation of Poke and I don't know whose version is right, but we got a good laugh about it when she said the cook pronounced it Pokay. I gave her a 50% tip and hope I made her night. She was great. I ordered the Poke appetizer to start, followed by the blackened grouper with a sweet potato and side salad for dinner. My usual sweet tea(thank you for having it) for my drink. I don't know why more restaurants down here don't have sweet tea. We're in the south yall. They need to read the memo! I know I'm a Georgia boy, but damn. Poke appetizer was good. Whatever drizzle is on top was super sweet, maybe a little too much sweet for my liking. I put a copious amount of Wasabi and ginger on it...why, because Poke! Hindsight, I should've put soy sauce on it to counter the sweet. Blackened grouper was good, not great. Wasn't the best I've had and wasn't the worst. Somewhere in the middle. Sweet potato with their cinnamon/butter concoction was really good. I love a good sweet potato! The side salad was a huge bowl for a side. You could easily order this side salad as a meal and be full. I only ate about 1/3 of it so I still had room for everything else. All in all, I was going to give it 3 stars for food but the service brought it to 4 stars. I'll try it again in the near future and order a different dish. My Family is visiting so we decided to try this place for the first time and I have to say I was kind of embarrassed.....not really sure if it's a dockside or a sports bar vibe buts it's pretty bland. Wasn't busy at all (Monday Evening) but service was pretty slow and inattentive. We started w some apps .....Pickle Fries were tasty but super greasy and falling apart, Banging shrimp were very good, Lobster Bites were good but not 100% sure it was actually lobster. For Dinner we had the Meat Skewers with loaded fries and onion rings...fries were very good and onion ring were very good but super greasy the peppers onions mushrooms and sauce under the 1 skewer of steak were also very goody but the meat was inedible so dried out overcooked and tough the waitress replaced it was a chicken skewer that took so long to come out that everyone was done w dinner when we got it and 3 of the 5 pieces were raw inside and had a very weird texture. The wings were very tasty and tender but not very crispy and kind of on the large side ( I weirdly prefer a tiny wing ). The Sea Scallops were actually Bay scallops and not very good at all some raw and some mushy. Can't comment too much on the Crab Cakes because I didn't taste them but was told they were good. Pretty sure most of the Seafood was frozen but don't really know for sure. Also was excited to see a wedge salad on the menu but then found out that it was not actually a wedge salad but described as some romaine lettuce fanned out on a plate with dressing and toppings so we did not order it. Kind of a pet peeve of mine when menus lie. Waitress was not attentive and seemed swamped even though it was pretty empty. So do I recommend this place No....will I be returning No. But I would buy a bottle of the bayou sauce they served with some of the apps. Two completely different places.. let me explain... When you walk in the front door it is a very grey seafood style restaurant that head large tables and a hostess but if you walk into the back where the bar area is.... it feels completely different! High top tables, building is open on two sides with outdoor bar seating, band on a Thursday night! We sat at the bar. Cody our bartender was very attentive and short staffed and yet still on top of it. Ps he also had a torn Achilles' tendon and was running the whole bar which is long! Menu seemed impressive with options and they had a full bar and beers on tap as well. We ordered the calamari app, which I believe was 11 dollars and a very small portion with many fried banana peppers. A bit oily but taste was there. Then we got the sweet potato waffle fries which comes with cinnamon butter... nice touch and Yummy. He got the river special. If you like mustard you like them. It was a brown sauce but tasted a lot of the mustard. We thought they were ok. I got the Mammas butter snow crab which came with potatoes and 2 corn but NOT sausage, that's extra but we got it and it was good. My whole dish was very good but I'd hope so since it's called the boil yard! Lol. Overall I was a good experience and we would go again. I like grouper sandwiches. I've eaten great grouper sandwiches before however, this one was just OK. Most of the times I get it fried, however, this time I decided to go with the blackened grouper. It may have just been the fact that I requested the grouper blackened instead of fried, but it wasn't as good as I expected. The fries were great, and the portion was much bigger than I could eat. So we had to come back for oysters and they were over the top cleaned and shucked to perfection. The bucket of 30 came out on ice and very clean (both inside and out). I was actually able to eat these Gulf Oysters from Louisiana the correct way by picking them up and slurping them down. Sean was the expert in the kitchen to make sure these oysters were the best. He did a great job! I shucked oysters for 2 years back in the day at Tampa's famous Casey's Cove so I finally found someone who takes as much pride in the shucking as I did! Trisha (the owner) was kicking it behind the bar. She wants to make sure your visit was as good as it could be. She was visible the whole time we were there and working hard filling those pints. Really great service. Food was tasty. It was very clean. I did not go to this establishment until the new owners took over but from what others say it's much cleaner and brighter. Good selection on the menu. I had the bowl with shrimp and the hubs had the wings with ole bay sauce. Both good. A big plus is the open air roll up garage type windows to sit inside /outside. That will make a big difference for people trying to stay out of enclosed places. Plenty of TVs to watch sports. We were there on a Saturday and they had karaoke which was fun. They also have live music Thursday, Friday and Monday. There is a family style seating in the dining room and a more casual seating in bar area.
