We've been coming to the Boiling Pot for years but our trip there tonight will be our last. We have always brought a cooler with us. So we sit down, open a few beers, and the owner stops the band playing, yells at us in front of everyone, then mocks us. It was very inappropriate. No problem if they didn't want us bringing in our own beer, just ask us quietly. The rest of dinner was very uncomfortable. Then the food has gone down. Barely any seafood in our boil. The corn was mush from being overly cooked. The sausage were definitely hot dogs. We won't be returning. read more

Apparently the theme of Rockport is "take your time". Every restaurant we have been to on our trip has had s-l-o-w.. service... And the Boiling Pot followed suit. The sever was nice and attentive... And the food was good. They cover the tables in paper and dump pots of seafood, potatoes and corn. Everything was flavorful and there was plenty of it. By far the best crawfish I have ever tasted. Dinner for 5 was around $60 before tip. We asked the server about local babysitting options and she quickly pulled out the phone number of one of the hostesses who worked earlier that day. Not only did we have a good meal we locked in a sitter for later that night. FYI- the sitter was such a sweet girl! CPR Certified and her referrences checked! First time to visit, and it was amazing. Tried the Spicy Clams and they were awesome. The bread is perfect to sop up the clam liquor. The shrimp is fresh and sweet, and the sausage real good. The only thing we didn't like was the corn that came with it, but in all fairness we both don't like corn anywhere or anyhow. Will be back. read more

There's something deeply satisfying about eating with your hands, especially when it involves ripping things apart. But after about 30 minutes of smashing lobsters with tiny little hammers and cracking open crawfish just to suck out the juice, food like this can get a bit tiring. Not to sound like a lazy schmuck, and yes I was completely expecting this, but picking at shellfish isn't exactly the most rewarding experience. I decided to try this place despite the negative reviews. I actually found the food to be quite spicy. Maybe they lurk Yelp and took note? I expected the food to be bland like most other people are saying but I have to say it had a surprising kick. I guess the portion sizes are the biggest fault. We ordered a pot for 4 people and it was enough to just about fill us all up. Honestly, I was just tired of busting open crab legs and sucking crawfish brains to keep eating. If you are looking for a proper seafood dinner, or anything involving fish (of the scale variety) then stay away. Today we took a day-trip down to visit Rockport. On a friend's recommendation, we had lunch at the The Boiling Pot. While it is not much on looks,it makes up for it with the food. I reminded me of the hole-in-the-wall places that I have eaten at overall South Louisiana bayou towns. The food will definitely not disappoint. We started with the oysters on a half-shell -- fantastic! Then we ordered the Cajun Combo - 1-Blue Crab, 1/2lb shrimp, 1/2lb sausage, new 'taters and corn ($19.95). Keep in mind that EVERYTHING here is either raw or boiled - like a crawfish boil - nothing fried or baked. Also, all of the food comes whole and you have to do the work of shelling, which is just fun. They dump the food directly on the table - there are NO plates, so don't let that freak you out - it is how things are doing in South Louisiana and it was fantastic. I felt like I was visiting home. I love this place and will definitely be back next time I am in Rockport. read more

In every aspect, this was an uncomfortable experience. I left this place scratching my head and my behind, literally. The menu lists one combo meal for $18 and some smaller items a la cart. The waitress rattled off a zillion combo plates which I didn't catch. When I asked her to repeat everything slower, it was obvious I was inconveniencing her. I'm glad I did as I found out her recommendation was for a combo that cost $78! WOW! That's a HUGE difference from the $18 I saw on the menu. Similar story with the beverages... I asked for a beer menu, nope, they don't have one. She suggested I just pick one being as they have everything. I asked for a wine list, no prices. My entire experience was just bizarre. And as for all the scratching - I was eaten alive by the mosquitoes. I doubt I was the only. I would have moved inside, but honestly was intimidated by the abrasiveness of the waitress on the other items so just kept quiet, ate my meal, and left as quickly as I could. read more

I definitely expected more from the Boiling Pot. The service was poor and the prices are way too high! It took almost 45 minutes for us to get Dot's Special (1/2 lb shrimp, 1/2 lb crabs, 1 lb crawfish, sausage, corn & potatoes) which cost approx $25. The waitress said it would feed two people...she was wrong. What we received was about 12 shrimp, 15 crawfish, 1 crab, 4 cobs of corn, 4 potatoes, and lots of sausage slices. The boiled seafood was good, but not very spicy. I also had a cup of gumbo. It was more like a cup of stewed okra with two pieces of sausage. The gumbo was very spicy, but it had way too much okra. Extra shrimp were $15.99/lb! WTF? Shrimp are plentiful in South Texas. It should be illegal to charge that much for boiled shrimp. Extra crawfish were $9.95/lb! Ridiculously high prices. I first visited this place back in the 90s --- when I was in college and flew to Texas to meet my then boyfriend's grandparents. I have long since married said boyfriend and we STILL visit this restaurant every so often. We've also taken friends who come to visit us... The food is fun, messy and lots of it. We usually buy one of those huge pots and share. The kiddo loves the corn and potatoes...and we have no problem demolishing the rest of the fare! Although, for those keeping tabs, we do add a pound or two of the king crab when available! All in all -- I'm sure we'll be back the next time we're nearby! Yummy! read more

Really great food here. It was nice to not have to asked for melted butter! So many seafood places don't ask or even offer. Anyway, we got the 1 pound shrimp and the small order of a blue crab, 1/2 lb sausage and 1/2 lb of shrimp. For 2 people and a lot of food some left over came out to about 45. Extremely casual place with an extremely simple menu. crawfish, blue crabs, shrimp, sausage, corn and taters too (all mixed in their cajun combo), King Crab Legs as well can be added to any combo. The menu is a basic starting guide, ask your waiter the current price to add on for larger groups. I've been visiting Rockport for nearly 20 years and this place hasn't changed a bit. It's a very dependable, go to in a pinch kinda spot that isn't trying to be anything else-- except for a very simple place for good crawfish and cold beer. I need another one please. Most recent visit, the market price for a lb of shrimp was $15.95, add in a side of red beans n rice $5 (two could've shared this) and a coupla beers, -- I was a happy happy gal. This place is gulf coast home cooking done right. Read the name, everything is BOILED! We got a half pound of gulf shrimp (whole), half pound of sausage, one blue crab, plus potatoes and corn all boiled together and put down on butcher paper on your table and they bring you sauces and butter to dress it with. We split that (which was plenty!) and paid about $25 with tax and all :) You get two small loaves of bread with your drinks as well as butter and it's good! Inside, the restaurant is nothing fancy so don't go in looking for a gourmet 5 star. There is butcher paper on the wall from people drawing and writing, but it's a lot of fun and the atmosphere is very relaxed. The only downside is the bathrooms - they're not clean or in order. After we were seated our food and service was great but when we first walked into the restaurant it seemed a little chaotic and unorganized. In their defense I think that they were in the middle of a shift change and it was a Sunday on 4th of July weekend. My fiancé and I ordered the Dot Special extra spicy. It comes with shrimp, crawfish, 1 crab, corn and potatoes for $28. It was pretty spicy but not overbearing. Everything was cooked perfectly and I think the portion was just right for 2 people. If feeding 3 people with this I would definitely add some extra shrimp or something. That being said I love this place and will always go back when I'm in the area! read more

The service was great! Everyone did a fantastic job from the hostess to our waiter (sorry I don't remember his name). He checked on us often and that's with having three other tables to tend to. We went on a Saturday night. Food was delicious. I wasn't sure what I could eat since I don't like crab, but I found the red beans and rice to be yummy and I ate my husbands corn and red potatoes. It was our first night in Rockport and we were looking for something good and local. Looking at the reviews we decided to try this place. Upon walking in we weren't so sure we had made a good choice becasue it was tiny, crowded and dark. But we were there and wanted to give it a try. We were so glad we did. The food is good, definitely plenty and the price was resonable. It's all cajun-style so it's spicy. If you have kids, take this into consideration as it makes it diffucult for kids to eat amd enjoy if they are not used to spicy seasonings and flavors. We adults however, really enjoyed it. This place is an every-time-we're-in-town stopping spot. The kind of place you go in stretchy pants and a shirt you don't mind getting a little dirty, and eat like you haven't seen food in a week! Not a first date kinda place, but rather the kinda place you go when you know the person across the table from you won't judge you for the spices in your teeth or the meat juice on your chin. The shrimp and crab is always perfect, the corn is delicious, and the sausage and potatoes are perfect! And don't expect things like plates or napkins...nooooo! This place dumps allllll the food in front of you and you eat it with your hands and use half the roll of paper towels on the table just to sop up the juices. And it's AMAZING! Even our 6 year old eats til she's stuffed. And every time we've gone has been the same delicious results! How the mighty are fallen! Once my go-to place on the coast, I was surprised The Boiling Pot was not featured on a recent Daytripper show. Now I know why. Our party of three arrived when they opened. There was another large party of eight. Forty-five minutes later our boil came and the other party got their order about an hour after arriving. A boil should be almost ready when the first people arrive. One of my party is a vegan. ( I understand not giving a vegan option.) She had to order an expensive meal to get a few veggies and was told they could not sell the veggies apart because all are cooked together with the seafood. (Not a vegan dish at that point, but sometimes you compromise or go hungry.) The odd thing is, the veggies were overly spiced with crab boil seasoning and the seafood in the boil was not spiced at all! The blue crab in my boil was empty. That happens, but when you ONLY GET ONE BLUE CRAB in your boil, that is really too bad. At least the menu gave fair warning. It says one crab and no substitutions. I mentally added "stay away" to the menu of this now mediocre restaurant, once the favorite I looked forward to visiting. read more

Has changed. Ok but not sure it's COVID but the basic recipe has changed. Also service not as good. That happens but the spices were different and we used to be served a dry boil. This was dumped out very wet. Food was fresh, but used to have basic cornbread before meal. Been coming here for over 20 years but not sure I'll be coming back. read more

The result of being unable to eat lunch on Padre Island, was having to depend on The Boiling Pot to feed me dinner on my way out of Corpus Christi back home to Houston. While it was sadly not particularly filling, one eats at The Boiling Pot for quality, rather than quantity, and indeed the locally caught seafood at this restaurant was an essential eat at some point on my time spent on this part of the Texas coast. I had heard the price was rather high, and while from time to time I don't mind paying for a premium product like local and rare seafoods, such as stone crab, I would very much appreciate having an exact price on the menu when I know something is going to cost me. Most of the seafood is "market price," and hearing the stone crab would be $30.95 a pound, and $17.95 for half a pound, was a huge sticker shock, considering that much of it is shell as it is, but I had no real choice at this point. I can understand that the price is flexible, but this makes deciding what to (or whether to) order within a budget very difficult and frustrating, as if I decided it was too expensive for my blood, it would be much more awkward to walk back out and try somewhere else. I suppose this is a rather typical price for a strictly governmentally controlled seafood, with that said, but I value transparency. What eventually came out was four hand-sized claws of stone crab, with a few small pieces of the optional corn addition ($2 more). However, the thick bath of spicy butter made the dish a visual spectacle to behold, dumped onto the paper tablecloth as if it was accidentally spilled, and helpfully served with bread to sop it up. The seafaring interior with profuse logos and customers' writing made this place feel as if everyone ate there, and indeed the family sitting next to me were regulars and kindly taught me how to crack stone crabs, as I had never eaten them before. The meat was tender and deeper in flavor than a typical Dungeness crab, once I got down into it, and stood up to the spicy butter better than other types of crab might. Having the corn to offset the crab was very welcome as it soaked up the flavorful butter beautifully. Many napkins were needed and thankfully the tables are not short on them. Perhaps next time I might order the shrimp boil, to go the whole nine yards on a roll of napkins, and potentially to save on my wallet. But as a final meal experience on my Texas road trip, The Boiling Pot did its job and allowed me to have the privilege of experiencing all facets of Texas' vibrant and diverse food culture. read more
