A nice change to the old Altitude location. Furniture has been upgraded slightly in the Bourbon selection has definitely been improved. Since there is no fee to enter any more, as there was when it was the old business, it can get crowded in the afternoon. As far as hotel bars/restaurants this is one of my favorites. Quick and simple with none of the crowd that your TGI Fridays and others pull in. Really quiet and mellow and great for a departure drink. Grab a burger and order a flight. Not a bourbon drinker. No problem they have a beer on tap and various bottled beer and mixed drinks. But I recommend you try a Bourbon flight but tell the bartender your new and they will find something that you will like. All your food comes from across the hall at Chilis. So good food. And great drinks. Always plan accordingly and get to the airport early to allow for this stop. But be smart and don't over indulge before a flight. It's good bourbon and not your college day Jack Daniels in a solo cup.... Oh they have Jack Daniels too. Other key things to mention: plenty of charging areas for your phone and laptop. Stopped in here for the first time while waiting for my slightly delayed flight. I was pleasantly surprised. It's on the second floor, tucked away above a Starbucks, and it almost feels like a first-class lounge. There are comfy couches, TVs, plenty of electrical outlets, computers you can use and even free wifi. And ... there's bourbon, hence the name. I got a Blanton's on the rocks, which set me back $11 for a small pour. Not cheap, but not totally outrageous given airport surcharges and what some other places in town charge. It's an airport bar, so it's not like I'll be frequenting this place. But the options at SDF are scant past security, and this place offers a comfortable lounge area and a great selection of bourbon. You can do a whole lot worse than that. read more

A luscious bourbon list and great views of the tarmac make the Bourbon Loft a chill place to wait for your flight. You could school yourself on Kentucky bourbon by ordering a flight of three different brands, sipping and savoring the differences between them, for about $20. However, the best deal is to order the one you want and pay the small upcharge to make it a double. Here's the secret: the upcharge is the same whether you pick the least or most expensive bourbon. It's a no-brainer to choose a pricey bourbon like the Jefferson's small-batch, as making it a double brings down the average price. Well, that's how I rationalized having a double early in the afternoon! The only annoyance is that the prices aren't listed on the menu - you have to ask. If you don't want the locals to look at you funny, order your bourbon neat. The bartender will give you a cup of ice on the side if you want to plop a cube or two in your glass. Mmmm, mellow smoothness with a warm afterglow! If you don't feel like having a bourbon, there's a nice bourbon-barrel beer on tap. The bar area could use a little TLC. The furniture is comfy but tattered. The carpet is old and some of the electrical outlets don't work. My bartender told me that a remodeling is planned soon, so we'll see. These drawbacks are offset by large windows that offer sweeping views of the tarmac. Food is available, but it's just take-out from one of the chain casual restaurants in the airport. Your server will deliver your meal in a Styrofoam box with plastic utensils. Nothing special, but very convenient. read more

This is a provisional review, as I haven't tried the food yet (they sell sandwiches and salads). I noticed a sign for The Bourbon Loft for the first time today, heading out of SDF. I thought I should try it, because SDF in general has not enough restaurants or bars inside security near the gates. It is above Starbucks, in what used to be an airline club. The bourbon selection is quite good, including Blanton's, Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, Kentucky Gentleman, W.L. Weller, Woodford Reserve, and Maker's Mark. The flight (to try three) is $18.99. I had the Weller for the first time, and it was just over $11. Not bad for an airport bar that just opened up. read more

This place was open at 9 am. And as a whiskey lover who has had a hell of a time getting home from CLT to ORD, this was a welcome retreat. Bonus: it's socially acceptable to drink bourbon at 9am on a weekday. Enjoyed a tasting of some of the "unknowns" to me: Forester Signature, Jeffersons 8 yr, Michter's Single Barrel. Pretty nice 1.25 oz pours served neat (my preference). Room is slightly outdated, but at 9am it's kid free, not busy, and without annoying travelers frazzled over getting through security. Great place! Like an upscale Starbucks. With the construction at the airport it's kind of hard to find but take the elevator upstairs. I had a double bourbon neat for $15. I'm not sure it was actually a double but it did the trick while my flight was delayed. I was able to charge my phone and laptop while waiting. Food is ordered to go from Chilis. Give yourself plenty of time as it took awhile to get my food order. Food was ok. Not the best tho it's Chilis. Christine the waitress did a nice job. read more

Waltzed in 90 minutes prior to closing. Was informed the kitchen was closed and no more food orders were being taken. Turned right back around and walked out. The bourbon selection is not anything earth-shattering. Just a little lounge to sit at, cramped with dozens of your fellow travelers who got to the airport too early. All hype, no substance. I recently visited The Bourbon Loft with a group of co-workers before our flight, and I thought it was alright. It's a fine place to grab a drink before a flight, but it's nothing too special. First, the location is fine. It's kind of like a small meeting or conference room with a bar. There's plenty of seating and the bar is fairly well stocked. The service was great. Our bartender was very friendly and answered any questions we had, plus offered suggestions for those who needed them. She told us about the drinks and food they offered and then let us choose whatever we wanted. I opted for a bourbon and Coke and it was mixed well. We also ordered some chips and salsa, as they offer food from Chili's. Everything was fine and I would return if at the airport again. read more

Meh, not worth your time or money. When I stopped in the place was filthy - garbage and other things scattered everywhere. I was almost afraid to sit down. Departing Louisville from the MATS, the airline lounge that was here charged each person $5 to wait for your flight, and no one would bother you as you wait. It is now a bar that someone expects to make as much money from as possible. I understand that you would have to at least spend $5 to sit in here and these waiters/waitresses should leave you alone afterward. But they came to ask how we were every 5 mins. Walked in with a ton of time to eat and drink. Ordered a Bourbon and app. Never got the drink. 30 minutes after sitting down we had eaten our app and had no water or the drinks we asked for. I had to go to the bar to get silverware. We paid for the app in cash, b/c nobody was around to bring a check. We left without a drink. The app was delicious. 4pm on a Thursday. Moreover, I asked a second waiter for water which we never got. The bartender did not have silverware and had to go get it. The only hint at explanation was that they had to go get a bottle. 15 minutes after that announcement, still no drink. We ordered a named beverage off the menu. read more

Probably some of the worst service I've ever had, their food is through Chili's. However it took them 50 minutes to bring me the burger I ordered from there, I know that they have to go down and get it but 50 minute is inexcusable and it was cold and the fries were soggy. Secondly getting the check took 20 minutes from the time I asked and the waitress didn't even apologize. Just finished eating an appetizer and mint julep at the bourbon loft. Was super excited to try it out before taking my flight. Not only was I disappointed with the food but I was also challenged by the waitress who wanted to argue with me over the description of the food that I ordered(which was not what it was supposed to be). Not sure why it's been reviewed poorly..... Restaurant was really nice, food was good, service was attentive. By airport standards this has everything you need. I came here while waiting on a flight. The place is kind of hidden. A single drink of bourbon is only 1 oz! Anybody who knows anything about bartending knows that is way too small. Stay away unless you literally want to pay $15 for two actual sips of bourbon! read more

BRUTAL. Overpriced food and bourbon. You pay a premium for free wi-fi (if you can find a server to pay your bill). SPOILER ALERT! The food was from Chili's in to-go containers. Give yourself AT LEAST an hour to eat. On a positive note, they do have a good selection of overpriced bourbon. read more

Quiet midday on a Thursday, each pour of the flight is about 3/4 of a shot, so you can get it and still walk to your flight.

Meh..... I didn't have the Bourbon. But the food is carry out from Chili's downstairs. Service was painfully slow. It is quiet though. So there is that.... I don't think I'll visit again. read more
