In my 60+ years I have NEVER experienced such rude treatment from someone who's only purpose is to please customers. I needed an i9 verification and from the start this woman just did not want to be bothered. I knew that I had an appointment and knew that I had to show her identification. But she acted like she had no clue what I was talking about. She said she needed some number and wouldn't take my name or bother looking up anything or doing ANYTHING. She did everything to make me want to walk out. So I called my company to verify the appointment and sure enough I did. When I walked back in the woman shouted that she was going to cancel my appointment. I told her not to take that tone with me and she disappeared in the back. I talked with my company and she asked what the woman's name was. I asked the man working there and he yelled at me that her name wasn't important. I said over the phone "did you hear that?". This woman obviously has some psychological issues as the other reviews will bear out. So my advice is to stay clear of this place! I wish I could give negative stars. read more

I had one good experience here out of three and I don't think I will ever go back. The woman who works there is does not listen to customers and is not helpful. It also smells like old food in there. I live right across the street but would rather drive 50 miles than give them any more of my business. Word of advice - treat your customers with some respect. I was using this store for shipping for a while because it was convenient...safely shipped a decent number of packages, but not overly impressed by service. But I recently tried to ship a very large box from here worth about 500 bucks. I printed the shipping label at home, packed it all up and brought it to The Boxes. Left it with them to put on the label as they had done this in the past- I'd seen them do it with no issues so didn't watch them tape it on and didn't think anything of it. The next week I go to track the box and it hasn't even been scanned yet!! I called the store inquiring about what happened, very nicely, not accusing them of anything, and the owner gets defensive saying they haven't lost anything in 8 years so there's no way it was their fault and yelling at me for losing my package! I went into the store as well to see if maybe it was around, with no luck only to be yelled at again - guess I shoulda been less trusting with them. Next time I will certainly be taking my business elsewhere. So moral of the story, if you want to lose $500 bucks worth of shipping and get yelled for it, avoid at all costs! Avoid at all costs. They will ship boxes by FedEx or UPS, but in my experience they charge 100% or more above what the FedEx or UPS shipping calculator shows. That is bad, but what is really bad is that they will claim they are charging standard FedEx and UPS rates -- NOT TRUE. In contrast, at the nearby UPS Store on Diehl Rd in Warrenville, the charges are only slightly more than the online UPS shipping calculator. And the service is much faster and friendlier than at The Boxes. read more

I find the service at The Boxes in Naperville to be very personalized. They have adjusted the sizes boxes for me (by scoring them and making them shallower) in order to get my package to a smaller volume - thus cheaper. The cards are thoughtful and varied, and their stuffed animal selection is the best I've found anywhere - even in a toy stores. The staff's personalities may not be DisneyWorld-fake-smiley, but that's not why I go into the store (which is frequently). This hard-working, service-oriented store deserves good reviews. read more

Charged $0.50 for a receipt on a prepaid package...and was snippy about it. Is that even legal?

Unfortunately similar to others I had a bad experience here. Person was not friendly and acted like I was imposing by picking up a package. I just expect pretty baseline customer service but did not even receive that. I felt like I was being interrogated just because I was not able to be home to sign for a UPS package and this was where they dropped it off. Not sure why they don't just use the UPS store but I do not look forward to picking up more packages here if it's necessary in the future. read more

If I could give this no stars, I would. I have been shipping through here for all my shipping needs (holidays, birthdays, buying stamps, etc.) almost 2.5 years because it is convenient. I have never been over-impressed with this place (it usually takes a while, they're not very friendly, etc.) but it was convienent and easy so I kept going. I won't be going anymore nor, will I recommend it to my neighbors or friends. This morning, I had my nanny drop off a postage-paid box there for a return I needed shipped back - so it should have been a simple, painless, straightforward process. When my nanny dropped it off, the owner (the same woman others have said below was rude) yelled at her asking which address it neeed to go to. Apparently we forgot to rip off or cross off the original address label (where it was adressed from the company to me) -- it was not my nanny's fault for not noticing that or knowing the shipping rules. The owner yelled at her and kept asking which address needed to be crossed out - my nanny told her, the owner crossed it out, and my nanny left. My nanny was on the phone with a relative and on her way out of the store, she told her relative about this terrible experience/said how rude The Boxes etc woman was to her (okay, admitting not the best thing to do while in the store - but regardless). After my nanny got into her car to leave, the owner came running out, yelling and screaming at her saying that she wouldn't ship our package and to take it back. Because I was not there to experience this drama myself, I gave the owner a call just to see what happened, give her a chance to redeem herself from a customer service perspective, etc. and also share my feedback that I didn't think her actions were very professional. The woman right away started yelling, screaming and arguing her position with me before even hearing what I had to say or was calling about, etc. I probably said all of 17 words when she hung up on me and said that she didn't want to argue any more with me. :) Okay, no problem. We're done. Sorry you're having a bad day. I wasn't calling to argue. I was calling to see how she'd respond and if she had the professionalism and customer service where-with-all to apologize and say perhaps that the entire situation could have been handled differently. I got my answer. I'm not one to post negative reviews but this experience was so terrible that I felt obligated to for everyone else's sake. There are a lot of business's in Naperville that offer the same service. I should have gone to one of them. But I just googled boxes in Naperville and decided on them. I should have read the yelp reviews first One would think that they would be customer friendly and helpful but they were not. Not only that but I found them to be expensive. I ended up going somewhere else and my pocketbook thanked me! read more

Terrible customer service such as constant complaining about her family, in-laws and other customers is a total turn off. I agree with most others on here. They are downright rude. Yes, there is an adorable dog there, but the owners are so rude. Horibble customer service and horrible prices. They quoted me on shipping 3 boxes at over $100 dollars. I left and went to FedEx where I shipped all 3 boxes for around $30 and got much better customer service! They do have a lot of shipping supplies but their prices are pretty bad. I do understand they are running a business but it's over double the online rate. Very nice people though with a nice dog but the cost of everything is very high. You do get great service though so if you don't mind the cost it's fine but it is expensive read more

I went there for a Saturday notary service and it was the worst experience ever in my life in a store. I wish I had read the comments other people posted before going. The woman in the store is a liar, racist, rude, and doesn't mind putting kids in danger. Here is why. 1) I went there with my husband and three kids and as soon as I got in a saw a dog in there I asked if the dog was hers. She answered yes and started behaving very unpolite since that moment. I hesitated to say any further since it could have been a helper dog. 2) There was one person before me. So while waiting I was discussing the dog situation with my husband in Spanish when another customer came in. When it was our turn, she told my husband that they do notary documents if all the customers that needed to ship something where helped first. I thought this was rather strange so I asked her and she said it was a store policy and tried to shut me off saying that was explained in the website. Lie 1: the website does not say that. Even if it did, that policy would be so ridiculous. What if people kept coming in with boxes, then I would be there for ever? 3) So she went to help the customer that came after us. For 20 min me , my husband and three small kids were waiting in the store. During this time, the dog started growling and started walking by my kids. She noticed this situation but did nothing about it. I am not sure if this is legal or not, but the lady should have put the dog in a leash at least. This was definetely putting my kids in danger as you just never know how the animal may react. 4) She very rudely said: If they break or bend something (referring to my kids) you will pay. At this point I said that I would have been out of the store if she didn't skip us. And again said that that policy was on the website. I took the chance to ask her if the website also said that she had a dog in the store, and she said yes (Lie #2). The website does not say there is a dog in the store, and that she will under any circumstance put the dog on a leash. 5) Finally, I was able to sign the document (both me and my husband needed to be present at the time of the signature) and I waited for my husband outside until he finish paying for the service. I am now trying to find out if I can make a formal complaint about this store read more

I was so pleased with the service that I came online to leave a good review (which I rarely take the time to do.) I was shocked to see the low reviews, and cannot understand why the reviews are so low. The place is super cute and there is an adorable dog in there. The people were very helpful and friendly, we had a nice conversation while we filled out the shipping label. I had to send documents overseas to S. Korea and they were really helpful in explaining the process. It cost me $30 less than I expected and it only took 4 days to get there (the weekend was included so really only two business days!) If I need to ship anything else overseas, I am totally using this place again! read more

I have gone to the Boxes for years and always been a little put out by the cost and the attitude but never had a terrible experience until today. I was using a fairly one time use box that I had received several days earlier and it was clean and sturdy. The clerk almost deliberately said that it was not their responsibility if the box came apart in shipping and that I should be grateful for the tape she was putting on the box. The box was not damaged in my opinion and after several more discussions about the lack of friendly service she ripped the tape off and said she would not ship the box. I don't know or care that she might have been having a bad day but I will never return to the Boxes. read more

Yes, I love to support a small business that works hard, helps customers and is friendly. Unfortunately, this business FAILS the small business test. The owner and her husband are rude, slow and seem to not care at all about growing their business. They ignore customers, give rude looks and make a customer feel extremely uncomfortable when just asking for assistance. Sell the shop to someone who really cares about growing a business, and can help provide a true business relationship to the surrounding community! I was FORCED to go into this place because UPS uses it as an Access Point for packages requiring signatures. That is the only reason I ever stepped into this place was to pick up a package. My 3-yr old daughter and I were greeted by a dog. Nobody was present when I walked in. I said "hello". The man who worked their finally came to the front and I asked him to get his dog and move it away from us. He told me he wouldn't be able to catch it and didn't even try to move it. He pretty much didn't care what I had to say. It was as if I was interrupting his schedule. My daughter is extremely afraid of dogs and is screaming at the top of her lungs for it to be moved away from her. She's in my arms and I'm trying to calm her and I asked the man to hurry up and give me my box so I can leave this store. I asked him what if she was allergic to dogs and he told me to leave her in the car. This person told me I should have left my 3 yr old daughter in the car in 20 degree weather across the parking lot so that he would not have to keep his dog away from her. I said hurry up and give me my box. A woman came from the back and said my daughters crying is bothering the dog. They should be prepared for situations like this if they want to have a dog present. Out of respect for the "customer" they should have put the dog away when customers are present. If this isn't a service dog why is it even there? I asked her why was her dog in this store just roaming around? Your dog is more important than the customers you expect to come in and shop/send items keeping your store in business. She proceeded to tell me this is her store and she can do whatever she wants. I stopped her and said can you give me my box so I can leave your store and she screams NO NO send it back, send the box back, I'm not giving her anything!! This place has nothing but bad reviews on here and I completely understand why. I was simply trying to pick up my box from this place and this person sent it back to UPS and would not release it to me because I asked to keep your dog away from me. . I didn't go into their personal space and make demands, but go into a public establishment. Due to their ignorance, I am forced to wait a couple of more days for my product because they refused to release it to me. I will not ever step foot in this place again and would not have in the first place if UPS did not associate with them. Shame on UPS for putting their customers through such an ordeal. They nor any other shipping company should do business with them if they don't want to provide customer service. read more
