Walked in around 8 pm on a Thursday night with no reservation. Quickly got a table for two. Took a few minutes to decide on dinner. Server came by about five minutes later. Ordered Irish seafood chowder for starters, and pan seared salmon and gaelic boxty for our main course. A pint of orchard thieves and a stout of islands edge. Service was great and the food was quite delicious. The pan seared salmon dish was cooked well and was a healthy choice. My gaelic boxty was cooked medium and was tender. First trip to Dublin and get a recommendation from a guy on my flight to try this place. It did not disappoint! The old fashioned is the best I've ever had and I fancy myself an old fashioned connoisseur! The chocolate bitters...what an idea!! Obviously ordered a Boxty...the pancake under a steak takes a second to get used to but it works surprisingly well. The boxy fries are my new favorite way to eat potatoes...incredibly flavorful and crispy as hell! The service was great! The food came out as if I had pre-ordered. And the server was so friendly! We were only in Dublin for a few days, and this seemed far more interesting than a typical pub. The restaurant was small and very crowded, but the service was excellent. Our waiter was helpful - my husband asked, which was better, the Irish stew or the salmon. The waiter said the salmon, and he was right! It was delicious. I ordered the corned beef boxty dumplings, and it was so tasty! Different from the traditional corned beef and cabbage and twice as good! We dropped by for dinner after arriving in Dublin today. Their location is ideal in the temple Bar location. At 5:30pm we had to wait 10 minutes or so. Although the basement just had one table of two seated, perhaps they were waiting for staffing to beef up. Our waiter was very attentive, and although O would have preferred to sit upstairs, downstairs was nice and cozy. We had the stew trio - I liked the lamb and beef stews, but was not as much of a fan of the third one (Boxty stew?). The third one was pork and quiet salty. My son's seafood chowder was good (he finished it easily) and the Boxty fries were as tasty and crunchy as I remembered them from my first visit a few years ago (and it's a big portion). read more

I enjoy The Boxty House, as does my wife. We have been here on both trips to Ireland when we spent time in Temple Bar, Dublin City Centre. They know how to make you feel at home and welcome. Until visiting The Boxty House for a meal the first time two years ago, I had no idea what boxty cuisine was. Essentially, comprising grated raw potato, cooked mash, and flour, boxty is most known for making pancakes, dumplings, and fries. Needless to say, when we came here, I needed to order the Boxty Tasting Platter to obtain a good feel for some of the Irish cuisine offered. I was not disappointed. The super tasty Boxty Tasting Platter consisted of crisp boxty fries, boxty dumplings (served with a sweet chili & honey sauce), and a tasted boxty loaf (served with a St. Tola's Cream Cheese and tomato and coriander salsa). Lightly fried and crispy for sure, this sampler tantalized my sense. If you have any room after your main meal, I highly recommend the Oreo Cheesecake, which is served with chantilly cream and fresh fruit. I enjoyed neat pours of Teeling Small Batch and a complimentary Irish Coffee, which was also made with Teeling whiskey, brown sugar, and cream. Both drinks satisfied me as my wife, and I enjoyed the sunny weather, people watching and chatting up the server who served us the first time we came to The Boxty House two years ago -- both of us went to the Cure show at Malahide Park in 2019. The menu was changed recently, so we decided to order The seafood chowder. It was delicious, fresh mussels and white fish, fantastic bread but only one small slice. HOLY MOLY. My fiancé remembered this spot being delicious when he studied abroad here, so we had to stop in for nostalgia and some local traditional food. The boxty was SO GOOD. It was magical. We walked in around 8:30 and got lucky for a table, we were in a small corner very secluded which was perfect for conversation. We started with the starter platter which was awesome. Their fries are SO GOOD. The goat cheese was amazing and on their traditional brown bread? I could eat it every day. Their dumplings were also a huge hit. Overall, I don't quite understand the hype. We came here during our first night in Dublin as it was recommended on many websites and the Rick Steve's book. They did squeeze us in as we did not have a reservations which was very much appreciated. It took a little bit of time for us to place our order with the server but after that the service was good. We came with a large group and ordered the chicken and gaelic boxty's, corned beef, and fish and chips. Everything seemed under seasoned with the only seasoned dish being the chicken boxty. The one redeeming aspect was we came back on a food tour and were given 3 samples of their stews which were all pretty good (still could use a little more seasoning but that may just be my American palette). If I came back I would probably get the lamb or pork stew. read more

Had an overnight stay in Dublin on the way to a 14 day country tour, and was Looking for a good place for dinner. Fromers suggested the restaurant so thought we would check it out. As the city was surprisingly busy we made reservations for 7 pl and glad we did. The menu was varied from burgers to steaks and fresh seafood. Starting oot with boxty fries which are Potato pancakes cut into thing strings and fried was not to be missed the lamb boxty and the beaf strew was indeed heart and very tasteful. The service was excellent and also very informative with regard to sights and places to visit even outside the city. By the time we left at 8:30 pm there was a large waiting list. We were visiting Dublin and came here for dinner based on the positive reviews and the opportunity to try an Irish staple, boxty. The staff asked for vaccination status and seated quickly. The soda bread is pretty standard like you'll get anywhere else, the vegetable tempura was surprisingly fantastic with an awesome sauce, and the chicken boxty was solid. Yes yes and yes! This restaurant has been written up on so many travel blogs that I read before coming to Dublin that we had to try it. We pre-booked a reservation prior to our arrival and especially during Covid. We had arrived a little bit early and we're properly seated. They will check for your vaccination card and ask for contact information prior to entering so please comply with this request. Our server who was originally from Croatia was amazing. He was so friendly and helpful and made really good suggestions for the menu items. We opted to have the Caesar salad, the beef boxty, goat cheese bon bons and seafood chowder. Every single item was delicious. This is probably one of our favorite meals. We wish we would've eaten there at least one other time. The goat cheese balls were amazing. The beef was tender and flavorful as was the potato boxty. I highly recommend that you visit this restaurant. It's right near the actual Temple Bar in the Temple Bar area.
