After seeing the Boxty House on an episode of "Somebody Feed Phil", we added it to our list of things to do when we visited Ireland.....which we are now doing. After visiting the Guinness Storehouse, we walked back through the Temple Bar area and found Boxty. Even though we didn't have a reservation, we were able to easily get in for lunch on a Saturday. It's not a big place, but does appear to be popular. My wife had the fish n chips, and I had the Gaelic boxty. She liked hers, and I thought the boxty (having never had one before) was very good. We went to a steakhouse the night before, where I had a Tomahawk steak. I actually thought the steak medallions on the Gaelic boxty were better than the tomahawk! It is very pricey, especially for lunch in our case. But it was worth the experience. read more

A must try among temple street. Head there for lunch for a good deal and it's also less busy. I had Boxty platter with a sample of everything including boxty fries (twice fried yum!), boxty dumplings in a sweet chili sauce and boxty bread topped with fresh salsa. My bf had the boxty with pulled pork with bbq sauce which was a huge huge portion. A side order of boxty fries were mandatorily ordered when he nibbled on one on my sample platter and it's so so so good. I initially booked this because of the MANY reviews online but wasn't sure what to expect. It was my first time in Dublin and we wanted some true Irish food which this place definitely had! The place is quaint and small, we ordered a few dishes to share between the 2 of us and everything was good, not amazing but good. Our waiter was one of the most friendly we've ever had and we really got to chatting which was fun since we aren't locals. We came here based on the recommendation of yelpers before me. We started with a chowder and duck wings. The sauce on the wings was delicious and the chowder very good also. My boyfriend got a stew and I the chicken boxty. I had no idea boxty was a thing but was delighted when eating it. The chicken tasted a bit like a chicken and dumplings type filling and it was wrapped in the potato pancake. The stew also was delicious. My only gripe, and it admittedly is a small one, is that when I ordered a vodka lemonade as a drink I was charged for both ingredients separately. I couldn't have asked for a better restaurant experience for my first trip to Dublin! We came here without knowing we would get way more than we expected! Our dining experience here turned out to be wonderful and they were so welcoming! My sisters and I just hopped off our flight and came straight to Temple Bar area for some breakfast. When we arrived, we were expecting to have breakfast but they told us there was no more breakfast and it ended early. We almost left to find some breakfast food at another restaurant but our waitress convinced us to stay and try their new menu item on the lunch menu-- Irish Stew. Boy, did we make the right decision! A special thank you to our waitress for making it worthwhile! The menu was limited for gals like us who don't eat pork/sausage/bacon/ham so she made a quick suggestion and we went with it. She brought us traditional Irish coffee, which has a shot of whiskey that we thoroughly enjoyed. Boy, did we need that after our flight and to prepare for a long layover! The Irish Stew came shortly after... Irish Stew was amazing... slow-cooked lamb with leeks, carrots, potatoes, and barley served with Soda Bread. I can't even begin to explain how much this stew warmed my soul! The perfect portion of each ingredient was in this stew and no one item overpowered another. It didn't take long to realize this restaurant is overrated and over hyped. There are very few boxty offerings on the menu, which our server agreed was a bit confusing and misleading. The fries and dipping sauce on the sharing plate were good, but our main dishes were ok at best. We tried the corned beef, which was extremely dry, and the lamb stew, which wasn't very flavorful and served lukewarm. We stopped in early on a Friday evening because of the great Yelp reviews and this place didn't disappoint. The decor was kind of eclectic, but traditional styled. We were seated downstairs which had some larger tables as well. Our waitress was so sweet, helpful with food choices and was very warm and friendly. We started off with a couple beers and a blueberry mojito Mocktail. The beers were served perfectly cold and the blueberry mojito was tasty as well. We also had the mixed potato appetizer, which had a very creamy and tasty aioli. The boxty fries were very crispy and the chili potato dumplings were delicious! The goat cheese and tomato bruschetta was just alright. For dinner we ordered the chili boxty (vegetarian), the lamb boxty and the fish and chips. The crispy fish(haddock) was so fresh and the breading was very crispy. The tarter sauce was good, but could've used some more lemon. I visited Gallagher's Boxty House around 3pm on a weekday, which fits into their lunch hour specials. The stew was 9 euro, plus 2 euro for the Boxty, which was recommended to me by the waitress. For 11 euro? This was amazing. I was SO FULL after the meal and didn't end up eating all of my stew. First, if you're going to visit Dublin, you have to go to this place. All of their food is traditional Irish food and you HAVE to try the Dublin Coddle which is a thick stew with potatoes and ham. It was awesome, I even dipped my bread in it (so good). I would also recommend a boxty, which is what the restaurant is named after. It's no longer on their menu but they will make you one if you ask! It's essentially a hashbrown-pancake. It was salted and buttered as well which was heavenly. Definitely go here for lunch, their lunch menu is super affordable and you might not even be hungry for dinner afterwards. Also, shout out to my server. She was amazing and very helpful, even gave me pub recommendations that were a little more "off the beaten path" so to say. read more

The Boxty House was our first meal in Dublin when recently visiting, and it was good! The menu is fun and has some unique options, as well as some tasty beer selections. I tried the beef stew, which was served with mashed potatoes and several types of brown bread. My husband tried the chicken boxty, which was very unique! I'd liken it to a potato crepe. We were both happy with our meals, but not necessarily blown away, and felt that the portions were a little small given the price. Perhaps my expectations were made to be too high based on the recommendations of friends. But, still definitely tasty and cozy! It's a small restaurant and it's a nice reprieve from the bustle of Temple Bar. I do wish we'd been able to try the desserts, because they sounded excellent, so if you go make sure you leave room for those. All in all, definitely a good choice when selecting between your options in this busy part of the city, and I do recommend trying the boxty and some brown bread. read more

Crepes and potatoes are my favorite food and a boxty is exactly a combination of both, so what better meal to end my day than the traditional boxty. That's saying a lot since I ate a lot of fish and chips (which are basically fries). The smoked salmon bap was a little dry. I added mayo and it then it was perfection.
