Boxty House was maybe the toughest place to get into when we were in Dublin. Booked up on the nights we wandered by, and also talked up by a tour guide. We finally made a booking and got to try it. Food, service, atmosphere were all great. In fact, Boxty House was literally one ingredient from a five star review [I'll go ahead - it was too much black pepper in the Gaelic Boxty (steak boxty)]. More on that in a minute. We started with the Boxty Tasting Slate - Boxty Dumplings with Honey & Chilli, Toasted Boxty Loaf topped with St. Tolas Goats Cheese and a Tomato and Red Onion Salsa and Boxty Fries with a Rocket & Garlic Dip. All were great. I especially enjoyed the dumplings (cooked perfectly, sort of al dente), and I kept going back for more chili. The fries and dip were also out of this world awesome. The topped loaf not so much my thing, but good. They also served a trio of breads with delicious Irish butter. The best bread of our trip - each distinctive and delicious. For mains three of us chose the Gaelic Boxty (steak medallions in the boxty pancake). Upon ordering the waiter asked how we wanted our steak cooked. Having seen pictures of these I doubted they could do steak to temperature (not sure why this was my thought), but they did it perfectly to my order. The steak and boxty were great, but the sauce had way too much black pepper. So overpowering that we all had to try to scrape off sauce. So much pepper that one of us (not used to spicy food) turned practically red in the face. So black pepper hot!! I don't know if it's supposed to be this way or not. Just too much, and it almost ruined an otherwise fantastic dining experience. The one of us who had the chicken boxty said it was really good. Service was the best of our trip. The waiter was so friendly, professional, and helpful. We did not stay for coffee and dessert, as the bubble waffle place around the corner was calling our name, but the list looked tempting. The Boxty House was our first dinner on our trip to Ireland for Spring Break. We did not have a reservation, but they were able to accommodate us. The food was good but a bit expensive. What really stood out to me was the service. First, a boxty is a sort of pancake with meat on top. Most of the dishes had a curry seasoning. I had the lamb boxty. The best way I can describe it was three lamb street tacos with a bit of shredded cabbage on top. They were really delish. My wife had the corned beef, which was also very good. Our kids had a chicken boxty and the house special boxty. Those were good too, but not a good as the corned beef. Service here was great. Our server was from Croatia. He was so friendly and chatted with us quite a bit before the restaurant got busy. I did not catch his name, but he was a pro at his job. I also ordered a flight of their house beer. The flight was a lager, IPA, ale, and stout. All were good, but the lager and stout were standouts to me. Recommended for a nice, casual dinner. read more

So good. The hostess greeted us and made us feel welcome, we were seated quickly and at a window seat where we could watch the chaos unfolding on the street, and beers came quickly. We ordered the share platter of appetizers and I was so delighted by the aioli. Arugula? Would never have chosen that as an ingredient in aioli but it's so so good. Main was the Gaelic Boxty, which was cooked to perfectly medium rare, with a side of golden chips, crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside. It was good. Very standard fare. I had the beef stew and fries. The beef stew was very standard/basic, neither outstanding nor disappointing. The fries were excellent, a solid "5." Those were so good. They were the perfect girth for the texture, which was almost chewy. It was a really unique texture. I really enjoyed the fries. Get those. Was staying at the Westin and the concierge recommended this restaurant for an authentic Irish dinner. The place is nice and cozy and our waitress Iseult was on point all evening long, providing us with awesome service and great food recommendations along the way! Given my extreme love for bread, I started with the bread slate and those were different but tasty. We also got the Boxty sampler - great option for a starter!! I read so many reviews about the fries, and let me tell you - just as advertised - they're fantastic! For dinner I went with Gaelic Boxty and I devoured this dish! Medium rare beef medallions with a creamy mushroom sauce wrapped in a potato pancake. OMGEEEE. This dish was well rounded and every last bite was better than the other! One other person got the lamb shank and that looked yummy! For dessert, we got the creme brulee. It was alright. They have a good selection for drinks as my colleagues enjoyed some with dinner. This place was wonderful! I have very severe allergies. They were wonderful with accommodating me and were so kind. The host was hilarious and very welcoming. Our waitress was witty and made great recommendations. They play a great selection of music as well. This place is a goldmine if you're gluten free as well! The food was delicious and had great flavor. We had the calamari salad to start and it was perfectly prepared. We then had the Gaelic boxty and it was really delicious. We also had a side of fries and they were really something. The fries have a great crunch and come with a lovely dip. Overall can't recommend this place enough! First awesome meal in Ireland, after Yelping for a place close by this restaurant came up. Found a web site to make a reservation and there was a 2 hour delay after making it online. Found out the hard way after we arrived. They still sat us down with the only free table in the restaurant. We wanted to try a lot of items and we ordered way too much food. Luckily we had a small refrigerator in the hotel so that didn't stop us. :-) Each and every item was so delectable, and the prices were very reasonable too. Excellent service from start to finish. Absolutely amazing experience! The food was beyond what we expected. I got the salmon Boxty, the dumplings and salmon were cooked to perfection. The place is packed so remember to make reservations first. It was featured on "Feeding Phil" so it's pretty popular. The fries with the arugula aioli was unique and delightful. The fries had a chewy consistency. The best fries I had on the trip. The curry dumplings had a nice rich flavor to it that was not overly powerful. The food is really good and this restaurant offers a sample platter of 6 different Irish specialties which is really nice because you get a full meal and you get to try several different dishes without having to visit a bunch of different restaurants. The staff was very friendly and talkative and mentioned that due to covid, they've switched up their menu so that it is more small plates to share rather. One thing on my bucket list was to eat an authentic full Irish Breakfast while I was in Ireland. This place popped up while doing research and it was honestly pretty good. The area was very touristy so I was hesitant-- didn't want it to be the Boudin of sourdough bread. I was a little disappointed that there was no white pudding, but everything else was delicious. We came here for our last meal in Ireland after seeing it highly rated on Yelp. We hadn't tried a boxty yet so we definitely wanted to before we left. We got here around 6 and were seated within a few minutes. A boxty is said to be a potato pancake and the breast way I can describe it is a cross between a crepe and a pancake. Our waitress recommended we start with the boxty fries and that was a great recommendation. They were amazing and better than any fries I've ever had. We did their dinner special (appetizer and entree for 20 euros) with the mozzarella appetizer and chicken boxty. Then we also got the pulled pork boxty. Everything was delicious. Girlfriend and I came here for dinner on Monday night, later around 8:30pm. Service was nice and attentive from the beginning and throughout. Ambiance is that of a "traditional Irish kitchen" but we found the place to feel somewhat Americanized (American music, for example), but still Irish feeling for the most part. We both got the Boxty Burger and substituted the Boxty fries (highly recommend these over the fries that come with the burger). They were delicious! My girlfriends had a nice pink in the center, mine was more of a medium. They primarily serve Jack Smyth Brewery on draught, not many other options. We got a flight/tray of them and got a couple pints of the lager, which was good. It's a bit pricy compared to other restaurants in the area, but the food, service, and ambiance made it well worth it! Our first meal in Dublin was here at the Gallaghers Boxty House as we were walking around Temple Bar looking for an early dinner. It was around 6 pm on a Saturday night and we decided to dine in here at Gallaghers. The place was pretty busy BUT even if it looks busy inside, there is a downstairs seating area too so they may be able to accommodate! Amongst the three of us, we wanted to try the Stew Platter and the Fish and Chips. The fish and chips were good and not overly greasy. The lemon/lime mayo and the purée made dipping the fries and the fish more flavorful. The stew platter contained three different types of stews: the Irish lamb stew, beef and stout stew, and the Dublin coddle. This was a great option, especially if you're undecided on a stew option from their list of main dishes. Overall, this was a great place for dinner. For the two dishes with tip, our meal was around 60 euros. I wouldn't mind trying this place again during my next trip to Dublin but I also wouldn't mind trying something else as there are MANY places to eat in Dublin. read more
