Honestly, it was good...a bit on the salty side, but still not as Earth-shattering of a meal as I expected from all the reviews. Get the boxty instead. Any kind. I did order the boxty ice cream, and that really made my whole meal worth it. 3 scoops of creamy goodness! I'd go back just for that. Okay, and to try the boxty dinners. Boy am I glad we made reservations! When we walked in there was a large crowd of people waiting. We were a bit nervous that we would have to wait as well but we were seated immediately. We started with a couple of glasses of red wine and lucky for us they were heavy pours. It is located right in the heart of Temple Bar so if you sit right at the window, which we did, you will definitely have a front row to the hullabaloo outside (granted it was a Saturday night). We didn't have a reservation and they told us it was about a 45 minute wait, so we decided to wait. Luckily we only waited close to 30 minutes. My husband and I ordered: Cheeseboard: an assortment of irish cheeses. The Guinness cheese was our favorite - I still think about it to this day! Faelic Boxty: We were kind of weirded out about a pancake for dinner but figured we needed to try it out because it was a traditional Irish meal. Very great flavor without being too salty. Pretty large portion so we shared it. Sticky toffee pudding: Again, I'm still thinking about this. I will always make room for this dessert! We were in the Temple Bar area looking for a place to eat that served Irish food. The menu posted outside featured many typical Irish dishes. The restaurant is located in what appears to be an old storefront. We could see the inside of the restaurant. It appeared neat and had rustic furnishing. We choose their two course dinner special that included a starter and main course. I had the seafood chowder for the starter and the beef and Guinness stew for the main course. The chowder was cream based, Manhattan style, with plenty of fish. The stew had the usual beef, carrots, and potatoes in a gravy like stew sauce. There was plenty of stew; I couldn't eat it all. The food was good; the service was good. I would return here and recommend the restaurant to anyone looking for traditional Irish food. read more

I'll start off saying for our main dishes we got the Gaelic boxty and the organic salmon - both were incredibly delicious!! However, for a starter got the baked mushroom cap - definitely skip this. Had absolutely no flavor. Also got an espresso martini, it was yummy, not worth 15€. Unfortunately both my fiancée and I felt like the waitstaff was rude. The hostess was nice (once we told her we had a reservation) and helpful, but our waitress was not very welcoming. Last meal of my vacation with my mom, decided to give this place a try after reading some reviews. We've been on the go everyday, so we weren't as hungry. There was a short lineup, and a party of 4 came back to jump the line to be seated at a table instead of the bar counter which we were offered for the 2 of us. That was fine but slightly uncomfortable with all 3 shopping bags and jackets we had to keep on. Ordered steamed mussels to share and Stonewell craft cider for myself. Server didn't seem pleased that we were sharing and didn't give us any plates. Anyway, the mussels were good but we thought the sausages/leek were even better. A pleasant surprise! First day in Dublin and decided to have lunch here. Very tasty and the staff was very nice and helpful. We ordered the Boxty fries after seeing an order at another table and they are delicious! But what we did not realize is that they are made of the potato pancakes, fried. Yum! Our meals were delicious too. I'd go back but there are tons of places to try yet. Casual setting. Boxty is an Irish pancake. If it's your first time and want an Irish experience, I recommend the Corned Beef Boxty. The sauce was good and the salad compliments the saltiness of the corned beef. The Gaelic Boxty has beef but it was very chewy. It was hard to eat. read more

What a treat! This was our first meal in Ireland and it didn't disappoint. It honestly set such a good tone for our trip. The Boxty House was walking distance from our hotel and several locals recommended it to us. Thankfully, we came on a weekday during their lunch time and were able to score some yummy eats at a good deal. My husband and I shared the Beef & Stout Stew with soda bread and the Bacon Burger with chips, both of which were enjoyable. The meat in both were just so tender and flavorful. We also tried some of their local alcoholic beverages which add to our fun tourist vibes. Overall, it was a good eat in Dublin especially if you're able to grab the lunch specials. Everyone around us in this restaurant was not Irish. And you can tell from the staff that they're used to it. That said, food for tourists is usually garbage, because they don't know any better. And the food here wasn't garbage. Much better, in fact. It's not the best of anything on offer, but it's decently good, solid, gussied-up Irish fare. The kind you came to Ireland to eat. Normally I'd seek out something more local but I'm not sad I came here. They manage some good flavors and interesting versions of local staples. I had a trio of stews and it was tasty. "The Humble Spud Made Beautiful" It was my first time in Ireland and after a day of walking around the city sight seeing and beer tasting.. Upon entering you will notice that this is not a huge restaurant - a small bar area and a handful of tables up front with a side room holding a few more tables. The vibe was great - Lively, everyone was smiling & laughing - Perfect spot for a low key dinner. The hostess greeted us immediately and let us know that it would be about a 30 - 40 minute wait - Good thing for us, there was 2 seats open at the bar. The bartender was fantastic - friendly, upbeat and was hustling {this place was packed}. With plenty of handcrafted cocktails, wines on tap and craft Irish beers to choose from, we opted for a few pints of Jack Smyth {the house made brew} - Highly suggested from our bartender and totally hit the spot - The red ale was fantastic! *Fun Fact - He also filled us in on exactly what a "boxty" is - Essentially it's a traditional Irish potato pancake and was nicknamed "the poor man's food" as the potato is such a versatile food and was affordable to everyone. After having some time to enjoy our beers, our waiter, Giorgio {who is an absolute gem}, came over to introduce himself and see if we needed any suggestions on what to order - We sure did.. we wanted to experience as many authentic meals as possible while on this trip.
