Get the share appetizer plate - the dumplings in chili and honey is addicting, the bread with goat cheese is well balanced and the pancake chips were tasty (deep fried twice - how couldn't it be heavenly!). The blue cheese, pear and walnut salad was light (thanks to the baby gem and pears) married with salty and tangy (generous amount of blue cheese) and was delicious. The beef stew hit the spot of comfort food, such deep, rich flavors. The meat and veggies tender. The beef Boxty was beyond good! The beef was tender as well and the mushroom gravy sauce was addicting. If you saved room (and you should!) get the sticky toffee pudding! One of the best. Very great service by Gregorio (sp). My husband had chicken boxty with lots of chunks of chicken breast in creamy white sauce. The cauliflower starts was excellent -light tempera batter with spicy sweet sauce. Go early it gets busy. Also, brown bread was delicious. read more

My wife raved about this place from her last visit over ten years ago, so of course we had to try it. The waiter was friendly and informative. She got the chicken and leek boxty. She loved it like before. I tried it and it was different but in a good way. Very tasty. You can't get good Fish n' Chips in America so I always get it in the British Isles so I had to try theirs. The Fish n' Chips were very good and so much better than Burdocks which brags on theirs being world famous. Plus they had this garlic mayonnaise to dip the fish into and it was the best fish dipping sauce I've ever had. I tried the Jack Smyth lager beer, it was okay but it had a weird smoky after taste. Overall I was quite pleased with the place. My only complaint would be the barstools we had to sit on were uncomfortable and it was a tad on the expensive side. Boxty was on my list of traditional Irish foods to try while on holiday in Ireland. The Boxty House (Gallagher's) in Temple Bar was the only boxty place we located. It was also convenient since we spent the last full day of our holiday in Dublin! We were seated and served quickly despite it being around dinner time. Mom ordered the Gaelic Boxty (€21). She said it was a bit too heavy on the pepper, but otherwise enjoyed it. My Chicken Boxty (€17.5) was delicious: the leek cream sauce was rich and plentiful. The chicken was juicy and tender. I didn't see nor taste any bacon, which was a bit of a let down. It was also only lukewarm, while my mom's was hot. Finally, the salad with beets was a nice fresh accompaniment. We left feeling satisfied without being overly full. The Boxty House is definitely worth a try, especially to try a classic (yet elevated) dish that you don't normally find on menus if you're outside of the north midlands! read more

We came here on a Friday before 3pm and the restaurant was 75% full. Thankfully we were able to grab a 2 person table at the corner of a restaurant. Despite the restaurant being small, we were very comfortable and the ambiance was very cozy. Our server provided great service and because we arrived before 3pm we were still able to participate in ordering off the lunch portion menu. I ordered the lamb stew with soda bread and my boyfriend ordered the corn beef which came with mashed potatoes, carrots and cabbage. Everything was delicious. We came back later in the week for dinner and had another great experience here. For dinner I tried the beet salad and fish and chips and my boyfriend tried the corn beef again. Fresh off the airport, my family headed to Temple Bar street and started looking for some authentic potato inspired fare. We spotted this restaurant among the crowds and decided to give it a go. Because it was earlier than 5pm, we got the early menu, and tried their house ales; red, gold, stout and everything in between. Their claim to fame is the potato pancake which was a hit for 75% of my crew. I had the potato pasta (similar to gnocci) with mushrooms and veggies while my husband tried the beef and my sister the chicken. My mom had a stew which was very good too. The food tasted fresh, no extra salt or sugar added like in the States. The service was excellent and our eait staff took great care of us at a moderate and comfortable pace - they don't push you out of the restaurant in 45 mins or less. The custard I had for dessert was stellar and I am glad they steered me in that direction. For the price of the meals, we were not disappointed. Enjoy! read more

We arrived at 6:30 pm for the early bird menu because their website said that the early bird ends at 7:00 pm. However, the printed menu in the restaurant says that it ended at 6:30 pm. I asked our waitress if she would still honor the early bird menu pricing because their website is incorrect and she was extremely rude. She said no and did not even apologize for their mistake. She said there was nothing she could do and then proceeded to take away our menus before we were done ordering. Went to Dublin on a mission to find a great boxty. Well, mission accomplished! The Boxty House did not disappoint. We started the evening off with a delicious Jack Smyth Stout. Incredibly flavorful and packs a nice punch. Ordered the steak boxty, all I can say is, wow. The steak was plentiful and delicious. Asked for medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. I had boxty once in Belfast and thought it was delicious. After a full day of walking and sightseeing, we came here to load up on hearty Irish food. Yelp and TripAdvisor reviews claim this a good, traditional Irish restaurant. We weren't disappointed. We ordered the Gaelic Boxty, Chicken Boxty, and Gallagher's Beef Stew, and some sides. I wasn't sure what to expect of Gallagher's Beef Stew, it was amazing. It had oats mixed in the stew so extra thick and porridgie (not exactly creamy, b/c creamy suggests diary, this stew had that porridge texture). It was filling with a chunks of tender beef and veggies (carrots, potatoes). My son enjoyed the chicken boxty, flavor was great. Though he couldn't keep his fork off of hubby's Gaelic Boxty, which had a really tender medium-rare steak inside. The service was great. First things first, beer. Boxty has a large beer selection including their own brand (the name is escaping me). There are several different options for flights - a stout flight and a pale ale flight for example. For an appetizer, a fellow customer recommended the Boxty fries. These. Were. Amazing. I'm not entirely sure how to describe these. They were served hot, crispy but not overdone and with two dipping sauces. We enjoyed the fries so much that we considered ordering more. For our dinner, the waiter recommended trying a Boxty. Essentially, a Boxty is a potato pancake with different meat fillings and sauces. Like an Irish enchilada of sorts. Everything in front of me was made out of potatoes! And it was divine. Despite the fact that the Irish love this staple food to the point of distraction, they really do know how to elevate a spud into culinary art in a million different ways. And my plate had three of them. I got the Boxty Tasting Platter, one of the few really affordable things on the menu due to Temple Bar inflation here, and enjoyed every potatoey bite. The highlight for me were the potato dumplings that were every bit as good as most gnocchi that I have had in my life from even the classiest Italian restaurant. The little bowl of them were not enough though as I could have had them for a meal. The substantial part of the platter was the potato bread with goat cheese and rocket (which is, not like it sounds, not a spicy dip, though this was available on the side but a vegetable). And there was also quite a large plate of fries. Washing the whole thing down with a Beamish (no Guinness here surprisingly) made for a stereotypically Irish meal. It's not quiet here being in the heart of Temple Bar and I found the service a bit slow. But, still, these are the kind of potatoes worth travelling halfway across the planet for! read more
