This was our first meal in Dublin. We all loved it. It has Vegan options, Vegetarian Options, and Plant Based Options. However, the sauces are very rich, and I didn't feel very good afterwards, because the sauces were more than my Plant Based Diet was use too. They have a excellent wine and beer list. Service was very good for Dublin. i can see where it got it's excellent ratings, but for my Whole Food Plant Based Diet, I would prefer a place like Blazing Salads. I accidentally ordered the corned beef meal (thought it was a boxty special), and when I saw it, I was delighted--and happily gobbled up the giant portion! Moist, flavorful, intensely wonderful! Had the ribs for a starter, also mind-blowingly delicious! I've never had a better version of these two items in my life! Also had the eggs Benedict boxty--which was nice and delicious as expected. Such good food ! Came here because it was close to our hostel after a day trip to the Cliffs of Moher & Galway. Five minute wait. Servers were very nice. My friend ordered the corned beef & I got some sautéed cabbage and fries and carrots. Everything was amazing. My friend also got a cocktail but I forget which one. OMG a must try for all foodies! Had a fabulous lunch here, so good, in fact, that I may go again today. We had the Gaelic Boxty and the Corned Beef Dumplings. The Boxty is a local treat and very good, but the dumpling dish was exceptional! The Corned beef was perfectly done added an excellent salt flavor to the light, but rich cream sauce. The dumplings were some of the best I've ever had. Most dumplings at restaurants turn to mush, but these had wonderful texture. I am not usually a fan of kale, but it was perfectly cooked to compliment this dish. I gobbled it up. After an 8-day trip experiencing Irish cuisine, this was our favorite dish. It looks like their menu changes on a seasonal bases, so this dish may not be there, but if you are craving dumplings or some corned beef, I am guessing they do an exceptional job here. This was one of the greatest surprises of our trip. The atmosphere is family friendly, but still a cool scene. A "come as you are" restaurant, which is important if you are traveling. My table had a gluten free son, a vegan granny and a dairy free daughter, and me, who is a chef. The menu was really made for for GF diners... wonderful. They make their own beer and gin, excellent. Definitely a trained chef in the kitchen serving local Irish food. The best part of the meal was a unicorn of a server. Writing a review now since I'm still hungry after a three course meal here and can't sleep. I came here for a team event and we were served a set Christmas menu. I had the smoked salmon, Irish steak and minced pie. The minced pie was the most tolerable except I don't care for raisins which it was chock full of. The smoked salmon was very flavorless and the steak was just awful in every way - chewy, uneven cook (very rare closer inside and way past medium on the outside) on top of two floury tasteless patties. I could only eat half of this main dish. All plates were also thrown on sloppily with no lick of aesthetic consideration whatsoever, and generally the items were the color of sludge. I'm leaving two stars as the drinks were decent and I also didn't sample the full menu or core boxty items that this place is known for, but I would stay away. read more

We had such a great experience here! We made a reservation for 8:30 pm - I would encourage a reservation because there was a line to get in when we arrived. Our waiter, Mike, was probably the best waiter I've EVER had. Friendly, chatty, happy - he gave recommendations to us as well as many other tables around us. The tables on either side of us were both tourists, so we ended up chatting with them since the tables are close - we had a great time. To start, we ordered the tomato and mozzarella salad (super fresh tasting) and boxty trio appetizer - the boxty fries with the aioli was amazing. We ordered the beer flight and enjoyed the rosemary beer so much that we ordered a pint of it. I had the chili boxty and my boyfriend had the Gaelic boxty - we liked both but the star of the show was probably the baileys cheesecake we had for dessert. The cheesecake crust was perfect and the cheesecake itself had the consistently more similar to that of whipped cream. My boyfriend said it's the best dessert he's had in a while. This place is worth it for the ambiance and great energy alone, but the food was also yummy. We very much enjoyed our meal at Boxty House. Be sure to make a reservation! This is a very small restaurant in a very busy area of Temple Bar. They specialize in potatoes: the boxty is a potato pancake and then wrapped around various meats or veggies. The Gaelic boxty was super yummy! It has a very tender beef and mushrooms in a creamy sauce wrapped by a potato pancake. The corned beef is probably my only complaint. The beef was awfully dry. Super good taste but very dry. My son had the fish and chips, which he said were the best he has ever had. We shared an order of the boxty fries. These were so crispy and yummy! They put all other fries to shame! For the food, this place has delicious and copious amounts of it. For the vibe, oh boy, this place is touristy as heck. We came here for dinner on our first night in Ireland. I was on a mission to get as much traditional Irish food as I could in one meal, and this place based on reviews and real-life experience definitely hit the bill. Problem is, I forgot to filter for a restaurant that is local and not on virtually the most touristy street on Dublin. So, if eating at a local restaurant that is not filled with tourists is extraordinarily important to you, even more than fulfilling your mission to eat all of the Irish culinary culture's greatest hits, then perhaps skip this place. Now that's out of the way, the food and drinks here are darn good! We came here during the tail end of the "early menu" time period (really, that's a thing they do here in Ireland - no, it's not a happy hour, it's way better because FOOD is involved!) so that we could order a three course meal for a very reasonable price. Turns out, though, the three course meal is a ridiculous amount of food, AND it requires an extra bit of cash to get the signature boxty. So, rather than go for the three course menu, we opted to order a la carte for a total that was less than the two menus would have cost. We started with the sampling of Irish breads, ordered the Irish stew, and finished with the signature gaelic boxty. I enjoyed having the different soda breads - my personal favorite was the stout bread! The Irish stew was very filling and full of chunks of potatoes and beef, and the boxty with the medium rare beef was really delicious. Ironically, I am not a fan of the boxty pancake itself even though I go nuts for potatoes, so we mostly ate everything except for the pancake and then virtually rolled home. So there you have it - my thoughts on dinner at Gallagher's Boxty House. The food's delicious and will 100% fill you right up, but it's really touristy. Hopefully, though, that doesn't bother you, because I think the food is definitely worth the time! read more
