This was the best meal that I had in Dublin and was the perfect way to end our trip. I had contacted the Boxty House the night before via Twitter asking about the menu and woke up to a response first thing in the morning, leading to further conversation and eventually scheduling a reservation for dinner over Twitter. Once at the restaurant, the atmosphere was pleasant and relaxed and they have a very friendly wait staff. Our waiter was very helpful and honest in his recommendations about the menu directing us to the best menu options. I had the Bangers and Mash and they were really spot on. Very good sausages atop very well made mashed potatoes and a flavorful mustard ale gravy. We finished the meal with Bailey's cheesecake which was awesome. A very light, more mousse-like cheesecake, with a crumb bottom and caramel sauce on top. Jackie was also awesome and brought us over some special drinks after the meal which was a lightly fruity liquor topped with Bailey's Irish Cream. Packed, full, and waiting. First things first. Call ahead. It's popularity and good food is causing a massive build up at the door. We figured Thursday night, just the two of us "no problem". Not the case. Luckily we were seated at the bar. Within 5mins. Food: Outstanding!!! We both had the fish and chips. Massive piece of fish upon a mountain of chips. Came for lunch on a Sunday. Busy as always. Nice brunch menu and thus far the only bar where Diageo hasn't muscled out Murphy's, my favorite Irish stout! The food here is anything. It run of the mill, even where it is traditional. My corned beef and cabbage boxty had cubes of corned beef and wasn't drowning in cabbage either. It had a touch of a mustard cream sauce that really tied everything together. The pancake was more like an Ethiopian injera than a crepe or an American flapjack. Nice brunch menu. Full bar, very cool for the size, that leans into craft rather than crap, which is the bent of the rest of the area's drink first, ask questions later pubs. read more

Visited last night with family. All ten of us sat in the basement. Really cool, lively atmosphere. Great service: well-paced, friendly, funny! Food was great. Stews and boxtys really good. We came for dinner - loved the casual atmosphere! We started with the Cheese Board to get a sampling of Irish Cheeses (Great! The cheddars was sharp and the Guinness Cheese was Fantastic! I found out about this place watching Somebody Feed Phil and ever since I was so excited to visit Ireland and try it myself. Boxty House delivered! I ordered the Boxty Plate as a starter with fries, gnocchi, and a potato toast; each piece was delicious but the gnocchi was my favorite. I had the chicken boxty for my main dish and it was absolutely amazing melt in your mouth good. I also tried a couple glasses of the house made brews - an Irish Pale Ale and Red Ale and both were great. Service was excellent too - I was seated quickly by the hostess and well taken care of by my server Mike. Thanks Mike! My only regret was not ordering more, but I have to squeeze in another trip during my visit to try additional plates. This has been my favorite restaurant and meal in Ireland so far and I highly recommend! read more

We stopped in here just walking down Essex st and needed our first meal of the day at 4:30 on a Sunday. I knew Boxty was a native UK dish, we were warmly welcomed by the whole staff. They restaurant also has their own brewed beer that was delicious. We ordered the Boxty fries to start, which were huge for a half dish. And we got the stew platter and the Gaelic Boxty. Second time we came here! We are totally addicted to the boxty fries with the arugula garlic mayo. Boxty fries are potato pancakes sliced into strips and then deep-fried like a french fry. OMG good! I was in Dublin on a business trip and very much appreciated how they treated me as a solo diner here. I had the option of a table or the bar; I chose the corner of the latter. Restaurant was pretty empty when I arrived at 6, but was mostly full by the time I I left. I had the Irish stew and it was delicious - perfect for the cold, blustery weather. It was accompanied by soda bread, and theirs was one of the best I've had. I was never made to feel bad for not ordering a drink or an appetizer, or for lingering over a book while I ate. Located in the temple bar area, this restaurant has a nice ambiance and decor with a cozy, date night feel. The menu isn't super extensive, but offers some fantastic options. I had a glass of wine and my companion the beer, both of which were very nice. Although I'm not a vegetarian I got the vegetarian chili boxty, which was delicious and so much good I didn't finish the whole thing! My companion got the chicken leek boxty, also very delicious. The soda bread and butter were an awesome starter, and we finished off with a delicious slice of cake and Irish coffee. All in all a good evening out in Dublin with great food! read more

Saw tons of review and 4.5 stars so I decided to take my friends here. Small place. Feels kind of cramp. We ordered duck wings as app. I got the corned beef Boxty. The app came out really fast. It was good. Was not spicy at all tho, even tho it said spicy. Though, my tolerance for spiciness is really high. Doesn't really taste like duck. I didn't care of the Boxty (pancake wrapped). I just ate to corned beef, which was covered in a sauce/gravy like. It took them forever to bring out our main coarse. I was getting impatient, almost asked the waiter where our food was. But my friend stopped me, in case they might do something to our food. It's definitely over rated, per my travel-mate. read more

We read some tourists guides that suggested Boxty for dinner. To our surprise they offered an early bird (starter and main) before 6:30. Since we didn't have a reservation, we had to wait 10 mins but then missed the cut off time. We were seated on bistro styled tall stools/ table, not the most comfortable for a long meal. We wanted to taste Irish foods as it was our last dinner in Dublin. My husband chose the Beef Boxty and I had the corned beef. Altho my husband finished the whole dish, he said the black pepper sauce was too spicy and that most people would not be able to eat it. I enjoyed the corned beef which was thick, lean and tender. Portions were large and we finished off the meal with a mousse like cheese cake with thick graham cracker crust and yummy raspberry sauce. The restaurant continued to be busy with lines out the door and service staff were great. With meals served all day, go early to get the deals or make reservations. read more
