The place to go if you want to try authentic Irish Boxty's. (Small pancake kind of things) come in every type you can imagine and they offer a good variety of seafood and other entrees as well. I had the smoked salmon and boxful dumplings and found the pairing of smoked salmon, cream sauce, and small chopped boxty's to be extremely satisfying. Actually had trouble putting down my fork even though the dish was very filling. Very unique experience experience at the Boxty House, which is right in the middle of the "touristy" area of the Temple Bar district, but it wasn't a "touristy" experience. The boxty is a potato pancake that is pure deliciousness, whether it was paired with perfectly prepared Irish beef and gravy or by itself with some butter and maple syrup. They have quite the selection of local craft beers on tap, about what you would expect in Ireland, and always tasty! The local Jack Smythe beers are quite wonderful. The service was a bit on the slow side, but friendly and personable. Overall, it was a good experience for a quick bite for lunch. read more

In the famous temple bar district, lies Boxty. Everything was absolutely made for a great experience: the waiter was absolutely lovely, and really helpful in advising dishes. The food was just really good (the Irish stew was one of the most tasty I've ever had), cheese board is decent, and the dessert ... OMG try the bread and butter pudding. Absolutely fantastic. It gets busy but if you go a bit before or after typical rush hour times you are golden. Great dinner! The Steak Boxty was perfect, medium rare and came out dead on! I can't recommend the Boxty Fries enough, best chips/fries in Ireland on a two week trip. The boxty fries were really good! They were like fried pita (if you've ever had that). The boxty itself was like a crepe- but very very filling. I got chicken and my friend got steak- they were both good. Very creamy and heavy. The baileys cheesecake was not good, at all. I really liked this restaurant. They serve their own craft brew which is quite good. And considering it is in the heart of Temple Bar, the food is worth the trip. Our server, Jules, was charming, helpful, and delightful. The only thing I would change is the music loop. Really boring faux pop music needs to give way to the Dubliners, the Clancy Brothers, and the Wolfetones and others. Featured on Delicious Destinations this is a pretty good choice in the Temple Bar area. The namesake dish is basically an Irish potato crepe. The hands down best of the one's we tried was the corned beef with scallions and chopped cabbage. The Gaelic was a little bland and the beef stew was pretty ordinary. Servuce and food super fast. Word to the wise: the lunch and specials menu limited and most Boxty items were on regular menu. Lunch for 3 with no apps and three beers 75 euro with tip. Dear gawd!!!! This was by far my favorite restaurant while visiting Ireland. I had the roast beef, cabbage, potatoes and carrots. It was absolutely delicious. I wanted to devour all of it but I was afraid my stomach was going to burst. The environment was homey and comfortable. The service was really friendly, they were joking around with us and made the experience fun. They are located in the temple bar area which is such a fun, lively area at night. If I ever get to visit Dublin again I'll definitely be coming back here a few times. This is no joke, they're not just the best restaurant I visited in Ireland but they're definitely in my top 5 meals ever eaten. You know when you've eaten somewhere and it's so damn good you remember it years later? That's this place, you'll never forget your meal here. My dad and I were very impressed. Delicious! read more

our first meal in dublin did not disappoint. our server epitomized irish charm with his whiskey voice & bantering style. he made sure we got the boxty fries which were absurdly delicious. crispier & potato-ier than your garden variety fries. i had: the salmon (i was trying to make healthy choices) was perfectly moist & delicious & might've been 20% butter (there goes the health!). husband had: the trio of stews (with various breads) which was enormous & satisfying & totally the way to go if it's cold out & you're really hungry. i really really loved this place. read more

I would say the potato cakes are ok. It had a lot of flour in it more than potatoes. I think I'm use to potatoes being the main ingredient in potato cakes. the soda bread was the best I've ever had. It looked so heavy but was so airy and light. My stew was nothing to brag about but it was ok. The waiter was so funny and nice. He was very patient with us since we didn't know what to order. The waiter made my experience better but the food was so so. I didn't ever get a chance to go back because there was another place that we loved in Ireland that the food was great. read more

we had heard so many great things about this spot but unfortunately, we didn't feel that the food delivered we got the three stews - veggie, chorizo and beef stew the beef stew wasn't bad - but nothing amaing the veggie tasted like soup from a can and the chorizo was too oily/fatty for me we also got the fried strips of boxty which were tasty with the dipping sauce but were essentially extra crispy hash brown pieces service is friendly though! read more

Best Irish food. We went for The Indecisive Plates One and Two, that is to say the three stews and a cheese platter. ALL the stews are excellent and we downed them to the last drop. The beef was my favorite, with treacle bread dunked in it. G ate most of the lamb one. Cheeses were very good, a cheddar with stout in it was great, the blue cheese was lovely with walnuts and honey. We enjoyed the different breads, too. There was not a crumb left of anything, so delicious. Long wait next door so we walked in here (we tried them the next day, and this place was so much better we wished we had eaten here both days). Minimal wait to get seated, service was fast, food came right away, and no one rushed us even though the place filled up fast. I was excited to try some local cuisine and made an effort to get over to Boxty House for some boxty pancakes. When I got over the sticker shock (€18-25 for basic, pub food mains), I tried to troubleshoot the issue by contemplating a split order between me and the husband. Eventually I picked up what I thought was a smaller drinks menu to find it was a brunch menu with more reasonable prices. I ended up with eggs benedict boxty style (which ended up getting unknowingly upgraded to the salmon version and briefly panicked I'd get charged for it, but it seemed to be a mistake). They were ok ... just OK. Pretty flavorless really - the boxty and the dish overall and I'm SO glad we paid half the price of the main menu items. read more

My husband and I came here 7 years ago and had the most magical experience. The service was amazing, the food was unforgettable and we couldn't wait to come back. Well, things sadly change. We went there 2 days ago, and the service was terrible, we sat downstairs (dark and no windows) and the food was forgettable. I got the dumplings and my husband got the chicken boxty. We were so upset at the quality that we didn't take more than two bites. We asked for the check. No one came up to us, no one inquired as to why we didn't eat it - so they obviously didn't take it off the check. We paid in full and left. Please people, there are at least 100 more places to eat in Dublin than this one. go there first. read more

Outstanding food and service. We booked a table for four last night - out first night in Dublin - and the food was fantastic. We all had different starters and all were great (but the boxty fries were the best!). Main courses were great. We can highly recommend the Gaelic Boxty (Steak and Portobellos in a whiskey sauce). Desserts were delish and the coffee was strong. The service was phenomenal on a crowded Friday night right before Christmas. Update - it was so good, we went back on our last night in Dublin. This place is wonderful! It is famous for its "boxty" recipe, which I believe are some sort of potato dumplings. Many gluten free options are available as well as appetizers large enough to be a meal. I also recommend trying the alcoholic ginger beer they carry, which was amazing! We went in on Saturday and we had to wait only about 15 mins to be seated, that's no problem. The problem came after we sat down, we ordered the bread plate and 2 fish and chips(at the same time), it took 40 mins to get our bread. Our waitress only came over 5 mins before that to tell us that the kitchen was running behind. We saw multiple plates come out with bread but for some reason ours didn't. She said the chef apologized, the bread was taking a while but the bread was room temp when we got it so it must not have been baking. I dont know what the problem was, but I just feel like if the bread was the problem then she should've come out after 10 mins of us ordering the starter and given us the option to cancel that part. We saw multiple people get their food before us and finish their meal and even leave before we got our meal. The fish and chips were good but the whole meal was just soured by what was either bad mgmt in the kitchen or a waitress that forgot to put in our order. I'm not sure which 1 was the real problem. read more
