I came in for crochet braids that I needed for a casting. My hair stylist's name was pickle. The hair that I bought was freetress deep twist which I don't think she had much experience with. I say this because the installation turned out to be a mess. My part came out looking like an old terrible wig that had hair falling out. I can also still see most of the spaces and braids on the top of my head. She used all 5 packs of the hair I bought so I can't see why it looks like there isn't enough strands to lay over the other braids. I came back the next day to cut and layer the hair so it looked decent, but I won't be back. I paid $85 for a bad wig and wasted 30 dollars in hair. read more

I never leave reviews, but felt I had to leave one after my experience here with my daughter at the Stonecrest location: We walked in a few days ago on a busy, no-school day, so I was prepared for a wait. I'd washed my child's hair (she's 6) and blew it dry the night before. She was so excited to get knotless braids. My cousin who was going to do her braids got sick and didn't get to come to Atlanta, so this shop was my resort to make my girl happy. We get on a waiting list, then are called in. First, when I put my name down, I was told $200 for large knotless kids' braids, plus the charge of braiding hair. (The front desk receptionist was a bit rude, but I figured it was just because it was so busy.) I was desperate and willing to pay it. Then the owner/manager, who was nice, was there when we came in after being called to say a stylist's chair was available after a 40-minute wait. She told me I'd been quoted the "adult" price, and my child's hair would be cheaper. Now, I realize this was a red flag as the receptionist was probably trying to collect extra $ off me but the manager busted her. How could she have cheated me out of money by charging me an "adult" price instead of a "child" price? Here's how: they take no cards (debit nor credit), only cash. The owner told me they have an ATM in the "back" but I said "no ma'am, I'll drive up the street to get the money from my bank," which I did. They talked about my child's hair in front of us; I was so hurt. Her hair is broken off in the back, and I know it, but they still told me they had to blow dry it some. An extra charge; she didn't need her hair blow dried. Then, I couldn't stay WITH my child. The sign on the door said all had to wear masks, but my child and I were the only ones with masks on in the packed establishment. The owner said parents couldn't stay because of "Covid protocols"-- this was November 2022. Yet, no staff nor other customers wore masks. I should have trusted my instinct and left and am mad I didn't. I saw them blow dry my baby's hair so rough. Again, I should have taken her and left. Then, the braider grabbed her and put her into her chair and didn't even talk to me. (I still don't know her name.) Again, I couldn't stay; I had reservations about leaving my young child in an unfamiliar place full of strangers. That will never happen again. I left to get the cash and came back 30 minutes later and the place smelled full of weed! There were only kids being serviced so, I guess one of the stylists who'd come in after my child sat for her braids came in after smoking. I see the braider yanking my child's head. Again, I should have left. Again, I couldn't stay, because of their "protocols." I specifically asked for braids just below her shoulder; I came in once they called to tell me she was done. My child is 6 and has braids down to her butt. The ends are bluntly cut and uneven. Fly away hairs were not trimmed throughout each braid after the braiding (a standard in all braiding services) so I had to do that when I came home. And the parts... sigh. Her braids are a mess. To make matters worse, my child sat for 3+ hours and when we got home, she cried because her head and neck hurt and she told me how the woman was "pulling her head off." Never again. After we made it home, my mom FaceTimed me, eager to see my daughter's hair. The first thing she asked is "why is it so tight and so long?" She could tell it was a mess. It hit me this evening that the reason they don't take cards for payments is they probably had so many people disputing the card charges after crappy service that they did away with card payments. This should always be your first sign to run. Again, it's 2022-- what business doesn't take some card or electronic wallet payment? $150 later with our Braid Bar experience, I'm the one who should question was is amiss with ME for putting my child through this. Finally, I'll add that I've been getting knotless braids since 2020, and have probably gotten them done 8 times over a 2-year span from 2 great stylists (who do NOT work for the Braid Bar). I have never left their chair in any pain. Knotless braids are NOT supposed to hurt. They beauty is you are supposed to be able to style or pull them up immediately after the braider is done. I wish one of the stylists I trust with my hair/braids does kids' hair/braids, but they don't, hence I came to the Braid Bar at Stonecrest. I'm sure I'm missing something but, i will be taking these tight braids out of my child's hair tomorrow after her having them for 3 days. They look so horrible and aren't loosening up. I won't be sending her to school looking a hot mess. Black women: it is time to do away with "hair trauma." Hair appointments and styles should not hurt! If I could give this place ZERO stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and RUN far in the opposite direction of this place. I came across their Instagram profile and figured I'd give them a try. Usually, I never get braids but I'm leaving the country for a month and don't want to worry about doing my hair everyday, so I gave them a call. QUONNA (the braider) answered. Her phone etiquette, or LACK thereof, should have been my first red flag but I still gave it a shot. I didn't have a specific stylist in mind so I went ahead and made my appointment with her. I called on Monday and made my appointment for the following Wednesday at 7:00am. Leading up to my appt, I contacted Quonna a few times via text (pictures attached). Now, I'm not one to judge a person's intellectual ability based on a text BUT I could immediately tell that spelling and grammar weren't her strong suits. Anyway, I still went forward with my appointment. I was leaving the country in less than 4 days so I needed it done. On the day of my 7am appointment, I received a text from Quonna at 6:09am. She TELLS me to come at 9am -- she didn't ASK if that time worked nor did she apologize for the inconvenience, she just made her demand. Although I was already showered, dressed, and ready to leave, I empathized with her because she said her baby was sick and she had to take him to the hospital. HOWEVER, after reading the reviews here, it seems that's a common excuse amongst the Braid Bar workers . I've read that same excuse in at least 10 other reviews which I think is absolutely despicable. I mean, what type of mother lies on her child's health??? I arrived at the shop by 8:50am. The outside of the place is a DUMP and inside was even worse. There was hair all over the floor as if they hadn't swept in days. Hair on the stations, the chairs, everywhere! The furniture was old and decrepit. The combs looked filthy with old hair in them - never cleaned. And a strong marijuana smell lingered in the air. I was greeted - if you can call it that -- by a girl who was sitting on top of her station. She told me QUONNA hadn't arrived and told me to have a seat. As I was waiting, another braider walked in-- also late for her appointment as the client was waiting along with me. The braider was wearing socks and flip-flops as if she had just rolled out of bed. She grabbed the client's hair packs and just started braiding. No hand washing. No apologies for being late. No consultation. No professionalism at all. Her hoodie was tied tight on her head to hold her phone in her ear. Despite having clients in the shop, she just kept talking to whoever was on the other end of the phone. By this time, QUONNA had text me and said she was "right up the block" and was late because of the rain. However, it had rained all night and I still made it there from 30minutes away. I gave her until 9:25am and then I happily got up, grabbed my hair and walked out -- never to be seen in that establishment ever again. By the way, I found another stylist -- a REAL one -- who has been extremely professional throughout the whole process. My hair looks amazing and I tipped her almost 50% of my cost. For me, professionalism and presentation go a long way. As a minority business owner myself, I was utterly disappointed by seeing my sisters carry themselves and their business so slovenly. Not sure what too say, but I had a very positive experience...um maybe because I made an appt on a busy Saturday before going, not sure. My stylist was TT (tahirah...probably spelled wrong). She was pleasant, fast, and did exactly what I asked for. I am very pleased with my hair. Yes there is music playing that may not suit everyone, but I was so busy talking to her and on my phone that it wasn't an issue with me at all. Appt was at 9, she texted at 8 to say she was running late. I said no issue and she arrived at the agreed upon time that she said she would be there and started on my hair promptly. I've gotten so many compliments on my hair and will definitely go back to her again. I guess the main thing to understand is, if you go on a Saturday without an appt, expect a wait. My experience at the Braid Bar was OK. I visited on 8/18/18, I had an appointment for stitch cornrows with Sherrica. This was my first time visiting and they just moved the salon to its new location at 1216 Columbia Dr. My appointment was for 2:00pm, and I booked through the Braid Bar app maybe a week before. Check-in was easy, I spoke with the women (Mimi), who was very polite, at the front desk and she went to the back to check-in with Sherrica to see if she was ready for me to head back. She was finishing up with a a client but suggested that someone blow dry my hair straight which I was ok with because I had just washed it that morning. They only issue I had with this service is that the person that was told to blow dry my hair didn't know what they were doing. I would suggest that they train they're assistants how to properly blow dry hair, Sherrica even said once I got back to her chair that they did not do a good job which was a waste of $5 and added heat and stress to my natural hair. Sherrica did a great job braiding the hair and was pretty quick, she kept her space clean and was professional. If you would like to see her work her insta is @_thehairgod I would definitely visit this establishment again. I only gave 3 stars because of the assistant that blow dryed my hair, she needs better training, otherwise my experience was fine. read more

As a professional hairstylist myself I realize that I am not above poor quality service. I had thoughts of referring my clients here but I would not do that after my experience. I was greeted nicely. I asked what options would I have considering the length of my hair. I went with one of the styles that was suggested to me. My stylist had a nice personality but horrible work ethic. She was more concerned with talking to her neighbor than the work she was performing. I was initially told to get 3 packs of hair and my style would take 3.5 hours. I arrived around 2:00, we started around 2:30. Again I was told to get 3 packs of hair, I got 6 as a "just in case". I didn't want to run out of hair, we ran out of hair. I had to leave out to go get more hair. My style was not completed until around 8:30pm. The very next day my hair started to unravel. Less than a week after having my hair done, $250.00 later my full head locs has started to unravel and even slide out. The braiding hair that was used started to stick out from the style. The ends of my locs were not properly sealed. I was a walk in on a Thursday of Memorial Day weekend so they were closed over the weekend for me to have any adjustments made. By the time I was able to call in to inform the manager I was told of the 24 policy and was offered they I could come in to have my hair re twisted. I declined. If the initial install was poor quality re twisting more hair over the previous hair was not ideal for me to solve the problem. I was thinking a style more conducive for my length of hair of equal or lesser value. I think that there are very talented stylist here but I don't believe the quality of my style was worth what I paid for it. It's unfortunate that I wasted my money and time. My experience at The Braid Bar was fine. I booked thru the app weeks ago with Victorie. She called me around 12:30 to see if I could come in about 30 minutes earlier. I had no plans so I was ok with that. However, I bought the wrong hair, so I had to go and get some the right hair from a nearby store (totally my fault). I had some left over hair from a previous braiding disaster at Curlz in Gwinnett. Victorie has braided my hair before and if you check out her IG, victoriehairpage, you will see that she is very skilled. When I got back with the right hair, she started on me immediately. I got small feed-in braids with individuals in the back. And I LOVE my hair. It looks amazing. My friend, who hates braids, even said she may book with Victorie. I hate leaving reviews for Black owned businesses. I even went back again after the first terrible service just to give them a second chance but I was failed. The first time, the braider parted my hair uneven. She had great energy but idk how it's possible to part crooked as a professional! Second time, I had another braider and I thought it would be better. But, the other braider almost yanked all my natural hair out by not properly blow drying it with the appropriate tools. She used a very cheap brush and didn't even have a diffuser, which it seemed every other stylist had. I even asked if she had one and she said no with a blank stare. She was on the phone the entire time and rarely checked in with me. To make it all worse, the receptionist charged me $80 when I had the exact same style as the week before when I was charged $70. APOLOGIES in advance for the lengthy review but i felt it was needed. MAKE THIS GO VIRAL!!!! I've read all the bad reviews on here but of course, I wanted to support my own. Well...that didn't work out so well! See stories below. 1st Appointment: My first appointment was with Tiffany on Sunday, March 12th (see attached text correspondence). I sent Tiffany a text of a pix of how I wanted my hair braided on Thursday, March 9th. She responded initially but never responded to my texts after. I had to call the shop (which by the way took a day for someone to answer and give me answer) to find out what kind of hair I needed because this particular style did not have what kind of hair and how many bags I needed to buy. The day off my appointment, Tiffany sent me an email (that I responded to) saying that she tried calling me but my # was incorrect (OK whatev!) and she wanted to confirm my appointment. I replied immediately confirming my appointment at 10:30AM. In addition, I sent her a text (because we've corresponded before) to let her know l be there at 10:30AM. Additionally, I called her, to no prevail, to let her know I was on my way because I live an hour away. I got her vm and left a message. Now I've heard rumors about them being late and sending a note last minute but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Although Tiffany text me and said she'll late and will be there around 10:30AM, she was actually there at 11:30AM with 2 kids (son & daughter). And while I love kids, that's just not the environment they need to be in. Although the apology didn't seem sincere, she did apologize! After completing my hair, I actually paid more than she told me it would be via text (and even left a $5 tip because I liked my hair). She never once offered to reduce my cost, which of course, I felt should have been done. The morning of my appointment, Kay-Kay text me at 8:32AM to ask me if I can come at 11AM. Ummmmm no ma'am!!!! I'm already here (since I'm an hour away, took off the day from my first job and had to be back at my 2nd job at 3PM...that just would not have worked!!!!). She used an emergency room excuse. Now, I'm a mother and a responsible one. If I had to go to the emergency room the 2nd thing I would think of is I need to cancel my day. Thinking proactively, what mother can take a child to the emergency room and come to work right after!? #TheLies!!! So I'm sitting outside the vendor and I ask a worker that go there around 8:45am'ish, is there someone else that's here that can do this style, so she calls the manager who said "only two people can do that style...the one you had the appointment with (Kay-Kay) or "X" person but "X" cannot be here until 11AM. Well...Kay-Kay can't be here till 11AM so I might so it's the same difference. The owner apologized over the phone and said she would give me my refund. I said fine just give me the damn refund. Now mind you, Kay-Kay was still texting me trying to rectify saying she was on her way ... but you didn't respond to my text until I told you I've left and just give me my refund!! NO'MAM!!! So if anyone knows about the braid bar, you have to book your appointment via the "Braid Bar" app... and pay $5. A week after, I never received a refund. So I login to paypal and sent he vendor a message. Today is April 14th and no response! So I file a dispute with paypal. It's not even about the $5 ... it's about principle. You said you would give me a refund so why have I not received that yet!? The job was not completed. Kay-Kay never responded after I said my last "refund please" and the manger never responded after you told me you would refund. To me, the "booking via braid bar app" is a plot to rob people of $5."
